"Longtime West Village burger restaurant is looking to expand into the East Village, with owner Elizabeth McGrath proposing a second location at 94 Avenue A at East Sixth Street per proposals submitted to Community Board 3. The potential expansion would operate on the street level with daytime into late-night hours, space for 50 people, and a bar, and—if approved—would take over the space that most recently housed a sports bar (which closed in January) and the 34-year-old cafe that closed in 2019. The restaurant has a family history: McGrath’s parents, Bill O’Donnell and Lorraine O’Donnell, opened the original in 1961, and McGrath took over in 2015. The business previously had branches in Long Island City and within the food halls Gotham West Market and the North 3rd Street Market, all of which have since closed." - Nadia Chaudhury

"Bring someone to Corner Bistro and remind them that they can still get cheap beer in this city and not every great burger costs $25 or more. Despite the many waves of new burgers that have entered the dining scene since Corner Bistro opened, the thick and juicy bistro version here is still one of our favorites. If your companion makes their way through a burger, some fries, and a few mugs of McSorley's and is still pouting about having to pay city taxes, they're probably a lost cause." - kenny yang
"Is it 2am? Are you in the West Village or the Meatpacking District? If you’re hungry and you answered yes to both of those questions, go to Corner Bistro. The burger here is very normal in most regards, except for the fact that the patty is almost the size (and shape) of a tennis ball. It isn’t elegant, and it comes on a plastic plate, but it’s still one of our favorite burgers around. Just remember to bring cash to this old and somewhat divey institution." - bryan kim
