"First opened in 1973, Cornwall’s is a family-run Boston institution, still managed by original founder John Beale and his wife Pam, along with their niece and nephews. This will be the pub’s second relocation — Cornwall’s moved to 654 Beacon in 2000 after vacating its original home, also due to BU construction. Cornwall’s has a decidedly British feel to it, with pool, board games, and a lengthy menu of pub fare. It’s a popular destination both for visitors to Fenway Park and college students." - Dana Hatic

Yelp
It was a Friday afternoon. Visiting the city. Headed to Fenway. Our group stopped in for a drink. Excellent service. Bartender even made up a drink for the ladies. And they had a kolsch on tap--Goody Two Shoes--a definite plus.

Isaiah A.

Yelp
Visited Cornwalls, bangers and mash was good! I think adding jammy onions would help with how salty the sausage was. It's got a few British and Scottish ale on tap. (Old Speckled and Wellhaven) Service was timely. Ambiance was quiet enough to hear your conversations and listen to 80s pop (ty so fun) over the speakers.

Michelle K.

Yelp
Cornwall's is a busy English bar. There's mostly college kids at night, but so worth checking out. The pickles are life changing. I had them fried and fresh. Both ways are AMAZING. They're lightly fried to perfection. My husband had the Ruben and said it was really good. Service is friendly and attentive, even though they're busy. Varied draft beer list - something for everyone. Definitely need to stop by when you're in the area.

Jason C.

Yelp
This was a great place to meet friends before the Red Sox game. We came by train which stops right there. I tried their pretzel bites and the mustard which they came with was delicious.

Brian W.

Yelp
While I don't want to ruin it, this is one of the very best places to go to pregame before Fenway. Close enough to walk easily, far enough away to avoid the throngs boneheads and tourists prices. Nide draft list, good pub food and nice vibes.

Nick H.

Yelp
Phenomenal British Pub in the Boston neighborhood right near Fenway! Super attentive bartenders always ready to assist with a new drink, menu selection or neighborhood knowledge. They had Fuller's London Pride on draft!!! Are you kidding me??? Who goes out of their way to stock that?... these guys do. Their beer selection was flawless. Food looked great but didn't try any. Would come again here in a second. Why wait in long stupid lines at the bars on Lansdowne???? Come here instead. Better atmosphere. Better people.

Cathy V.

Yelp
We stopped by here for an early dinner at the bat before a show at the MGM Theatre. I had the fried chicken sandwich which was simply delicious. Crispy and not too heavy or oily, served with yummy home-made (?)pickles and thick cut fries. Very reasonably priced too.

Catherine R.

Yelp
I love this place so much. It's truly the best neighborhood bar. My favorite is their cheeseburgers. Also, The tater tots that are loaded are delicious.

Ryan H.

Yelp
Okay, I have been going to Cornwall's for 15 years and as if I needed another reason to give this place my patronage here it is. This little pride heart sticker on the entrance door warms my heart. The staff and owners of this place are as warm and welcoming as life gets. This place rocks! See you soon Cornwall's.

Kelly O.

Yelp
Wait wait wait how have I not reviewed Cornwall's?? Best bar in Kenmore by a long shot--even if it wasn't a family-run local tradition! Excellent range of selections on the beer list, friendly bartenders, lots of seating options from the bar to high tops to regular seating. Extra space in the current location is beautiful! Burgers are clearly popular but onions are against my religion so I stick with the fish & chips (or the grilled chicken BLT salad if I'm pretending to be good--extra Caesar dressing, please). Always happy to come here, solo or with a group.

Vicki L.

Yelp
I got the tater tots for appetizer, and the tots were so crispy and I love the sriracha aioli sauce that came with it. For entree I got the California burger. It's definitely a hefty bite but I loved all the ingredients. For drinks I highly recommend the expressi martini and the daiquiri.

Jowanna G.

Yelp
Great bar food! I've tried the Buffalo wings, burger, turkey club, and fish sandwich and I have no complaints. The fries are delicious steak fries with the perfect amount of salt. I've never been disappointed with an order from this restaurant and each order was delivered through Grubhub

Cynthia N.

Yelp
British pub atmosphere. Nice background music. Simple menu of pub food. Party of four & all were very happy with their dinner choices of burgers, French Dip and Fish Tacos. Service OK. Very convenient to our Hotel Commonwealth stay.

Darartu M.

Yelp
My overall experience was calm and quick. I went during lunch and my sandwich was okay. I wished that I got my friend's burger instead but the fries and pickles were great!

Claire R.

Yelp
I am a BU grad student, so I've spent plenty of time at Cornwall's! My professors will take us here after class and my pals and I will meet here often. It's a great place to get a drink and the food is great too!! Best of all, the staff remembers folks and is always gracious. I love coming here!

Emma Q.

Yelp
Delicious pub style food and friendly staff! Great family-owned place that has been around forever and it is obvious why. Highly recommend the chicken pot pie!

Lauren K.

Yelp
A not-so-hidden gem located in the heart of Kenmore Square, this place is SO much more than an English pub. The staff treats everyone like family, the board games, bubble hockey, and pool table inside always promise fun entertainment, and the affordable food and drinks are something to always come back for. And if you like loaded tater-tots, this is your spot. Most recently during the COVID-19 pandemic, Cornwalls started offering breakfast and espresso/coffee/tea (and iced varieties as well). Don't judge a pub by it's cover -- the coffee and tea offerings might be the best craft brews in the area (never mind putting the Dunkin/Starbucks across the street to shame.) Whether you're looking to support a local, family owned business, looking for a beer before a game at Fenway, or even looking for some caffeine to start your day, this place really has it all, plus a little added charm.

Jen S.

Yelp
My former professor (I went to undergrad in VA) was up here for a conference (and also a BU alum) and he took me here. It was his favorite spot as an undergrad though I guess it was located across the street back in the day. Sort of like the TARDIS it's bigger than the outside makes it appear to be. Lots of professionals on lunch break type crowd in the day. I guess it's full of college kids by night. I got the southern fried chicken sandwich (I think that's the name?). The garlic cream was a bit much but was otherwise very good. They have a good menu ...something for everyone unless you're vegan. If you are in the area definitely check it out.

Emily W.

Yelp
Went to Cornwall's on the way back to my dorm a few weeks ago because it looked lively. Pretty good food, but the service that day was average. Give it a try! :)

Phil M.

Yelp
Best Bar in Boston. Food is fantastic. Family atmosphere, these guys are the best. Handsome bartenders too. Billy, JR, Miz, Lizzy & Nicole are the awesome. Pam & John are the greatest pub owners I've ever known

vladimir k.

Yelp
The mushroom burger here pulled me out of a heavy depression! I'm now entering a deep food coma

John T.

Yelp
Not sure How i missed this place given all the years I've gone to Sox games. The wings actually have sauce on them! Nice. Visited Cornwall's before Game 2 of World Series and place bursting at seams. This restaurant is a typical Boston bar with standard pub fare. However, the prices are not Boston prices. $10.95 for all the burgers and sandwiches around the same price point. A very pleasant surprise. Wait staff was very attentive even though it was wall to wall people. Don't get fancy with meat doneness. I asked for rare on the burger and my friend said, Good luck". Everything is "well done". Burgers we moist but well done. Attached Cornwall's mantra as photo. Great pre game atmosphere, good food, good not great beer selection. A nice experience overall!

Samuel B.

Yelp
Great venue, great location, and Billy is the man. Tasty food and bomb drink selection as well. Perfect spot to grab a beer and shoot some pool.

Vanity L.

Yelp
Great customer service, safe and clean during COVID times. Billy was amazing!! So kind and helpful! Great conversation! Fish and chips were good with a good beer selection.

Nooneh K.

Yelp
I can't believe the beasts are wearing single masks. Love love love... definitely recommend the service and the fish sandwich and burgers and pretzels and service and herd immunity or heard immunity... selective hearing... from LA and spoiled w friendly service and Team Cornwall can take the LA service providers hands down! Hiring talented staff is a gift. Tip well my friends. I know it's easy to serve with confidence when you trust your kitchen staff... this team is gifted.

William G.

Yelp
Cornwall's just went through a renovation so they moved a few doors down. I love the location and they are one of the few places open late at night. I personally don't drink so I gave their lunch menu a try. I ordered the chicken club with fries and it was a pretty standard sandwich, nothing too special but the price was amazing I think $6-7 for lunch. I would recommend Cornwall's

Yelp
I think the elderly owner is finally losing his mind (and sadly, I mean that literally). A group of friends and I stumbled upon this place on a Friday evening around 9pm. Upon entering the front door, an elderly man was sitting on the bench in a Ralph Lauren polo, legs crossed, reading a newspaper. As we walked by him, thinking he was just a random person who was not affiliated with the bar, we suddenly heard a screech coming from his direction, "IDs, I need to see everyones IDs!". We stopped and apologized to the now visibly angry man, saying that we didn't realize that he was working there. At this point he was fuming with anger and screamed back at us, "I OWN THIS PLACE, AND I CAN SIT WHEREVER I WANT!". We replied that we have no problem with where he sat; we were simply not aware that he worked there. His hand now shook with rage as he clutched the newspaper in his fist. "You know what", he continued, "you had too much to drink. NONE OF YOU CAN COME IN!". It was obvious that we were all sober, but this old man wanted to prove to us that he was indeed the owner and possessed such dictatorial powers. After reading similar reviews, its really sad to see this place go down the dumps like this, as this was once a decent place to come for a drink and a game of pool. SAD! VERY SAD!

Yelp
My favorite bar/pub in the Kenmore Square area. We dropped in around 9:30pm on a Tuesday night and the space wasn't too crowded, although there were a fair number of people around the bar area. They have another large room on the right with several large pool tables and a small arcade, and towards the far back wall of the main room is an area with darts and a whole bookshelf full of board games (Risk, Monopoly, Clue, Life, Sorry, Uno, etc). This would be a great place to take a group of people and spend a couple of hours playing games. We picked up a game of Life and played it on one of the tables with an order of nachos. These nachos are HUGE, and definitely satisfied a nachos craving I'd been having for several days. They are completely covered with melted cheese (I've never seen another restaurant serve so much cheese on their nachos). It is cheese heaven. In addition to the standard toppings on the tortilla chips (jalapenos, tomatoes, and melted cheese, $8.95), the nachos also come with generous helpings of three different types of dipping sauces - salsa, sour cream, and queso sauce. You can add meat (pulled pork, chili, or chicken) for an additional two dollars ($10.95). We accidentally ordered the non-meat version by mistake but were still satisfied, because the jalapenos and cheese give a savory kick even when there isn't any meat involved. The nachos are such a big helping that the two of us barely finished the plate and were uncomfortably full afterwards. They would probably be better off split between a larger group of people than 2. Didn't try their beers this time but I have had several of their beers in the past, and they have a good selection for reasonable prices. Service is fast and the servers are very friendly.

Yelp
We ended up having a spontaneous dinner here when I had a limited amount of time before needing to get to the BU Comm school. And was in need of a drink! It turned out to be the perfect spot! I always forget this place is here and will be meeting people here for drinks instead of the "family friendly" Uno, or Bertucci's. First of all, it's very spacious and has ACCESSIBLE BATHROOMS ON THE FIRST FLOOR. Can I get an amen? Seriously, I'm not sure about the men's room, but the ladies' room has an accessible stall the size of our Allston studio, and it's super easy to get to- which means we could definitely come here for a long evening of cocktails if we needed to. We only had about an hour, but we had a full meal and the service was courteous and fast! I had the grilled cheese and minestrone which was a total comfort meal! The boy had the french dip sandwich which he dubbed as epic. They also have great cocktails and seasonal beers on tap. Pumple drumkin with a cinnamon sugar rim. Mmmmm. and super fun to say. Yes Cornwall's. Yes.

Yelp
they definitely are one of the more decently priced pubs in the area. good atmosphere. always a good hangout. i happened to live next door. oh quality burgers and takeout is lightening fast. the menu is normal regional pub food.

Sarah P.

Yelp
Terrible experience! Stopped by here after doing a Sam Adams tour with a small group. Each of us in the group ordered one drink a piece and were just talking and trying to enjoy our night. A couple of guys went to the bar to order a second drink, and were not so politely told they could not have any more and that our entire group was "cut off". We were told we could stay and eat if we wanted, but no more drinks.. (seriously, we only had ONE each). So i asked to speak to whomever it was who made the decision. Evidently it was the owner himself. So as everyone was gathering their belongings to take our business elsewhere, I started off with an apology then asked what we did to get cut off. His answer was just "This is my establishment and I don't want you here. You went on the Sam Adams tour, you don't get to drink here now." And then told us to get out. Previously we could still stay and eat or hang out if we wanted... but then he changed it from vut off to kicked out! He actually followed us to the door and then just stood there until we left! I'm still perplexed! So rude!

Lisa D.

Yelp
Love the new vibe of this pub that recently moved a few doors down from where they stood. So open, clean, comfortable and great bartenders and cocktails. Nice distance from Fenway in Kenmore Square...!

Peter O.

Yelp
Best burger in the city. The staff is amazing. We live in Maui now but this is the first place I want to visit when we come back. That's how much I love this place.

Lee C.

Yelp
I travel regularly around the country and the world and this is hands-down MY FAVORITE bar/pub anywhere. It's right in the heart of Kenmore Square (almost directly under the famous CITGO sign) so it's a great location for local Sox fans (great place for pre/post game); BU students; etc, but it's a fantastic respite for a weary traveler. Here's one example why: I hadn't been there in a little more than a year yet when I walked in bartender Ben yelled out my name and said "where've you been?" And he's not the exception - all the staff/owners are so friendly and welcoming. They have a GREAT collection of draft beers; bourbons; etc etc. The food is far more than you'd expect from a pub and they have lots of fun activities from darts to pool to other games. I can't recommend Cornwall's highly enough.

Matt S.

Yelp
I'm reviewing my experience from a trip to Fenway a year ago. This place has a feel to it that is hard to describe. Good bars/pubs are like this place. Very welcoming and laid back with low prices for the area. It's a nice respite from the packed Fenway bars. A true gem i hope it never changes. Giving too much info I want to be able to go here again without crowds!

Aileen K.

Yelp
A quick walk from BU-and you get to walk in to a large bar with free popcorn! Whatttttttt!!! I was actually full when I came here so I didn't eat much popcorn but it's comparable to the type you get at movie theatres-very good and flavorful! I didn't try the food but I tried about 3 types of draft beers-all were very good and though I'm not a beer person, you can see how I ended up pretty drunk by keep trying new beers. The bartender was really sweet and let me try some before I committed-super nice! Although there were only about 2 bartenders, they were quick with service and we barely had to wait to get a drink even though there were lots of people here on a Friday night. When we started doing tequila shots, they of course got the salt and limes ready-unlike some bars that'll only give it when you ask. Love it! The bathroom is also clean and no line for the women's bathroom-another plus! I will definitely be back when I'm in the area.

Scott C.

Yelp
Off the radar but perfect pub to eat at before the Sox game. Good food, lots of beers, solid service!

Louis L.

Yelp
Worst bar in Boston. Extremely rude, and unjustifiably so. Bad service, takes forever to get a drink, and they openly mock their own customers. We walked in as a group after they first opened at about 4 pm on a Saturday because we were killing time before a hockey game. We were the only ones in there, and we paid our tab and tipped well. The waitress, however, was obnoxiously rude, constantly telling us we were "too loud". Then they accused us of playing drinking games and gambling! If you describe arguing over who is going to win tonight's hockey game "gambling" then I suppose we were. What a twit! It was not limited to just the waitress. The bartender, all tattoed up, when told by one of us "Oh, put that on the British guy's tab!" as a joke, because he in fact was the British guy. Given how this is a "British" pub, he thought that'd be amusing. Instead, the bartender (with no sense of irony) said "yeah, I'll put it on that As$hole's tab!" He wasn't joking. When our friend pointed out who he was, the bartender just looked at us, initially in horror, but then put on what appeared to be his best frat-boy face and said "oh, didn't recognize the accent". Yeah. Ok. Maybe they're used to kicking college kids out for being amateurs, and maybe they're default mode is "asshole". Either way, they miscalculated. We were a fun group, and apparently our money isn't welcome. Yours shouldn't be either. They can all go shove a warm pint glass up their tighter-than-it-has-to-be chowder arse. Will NEVER go back

Victoria G.

Yelp
Beautiful new space and the bartenders are incredibly friendly and accommodating! It's also immaculate inside. I love the lunch menu. Prices are great and the food was really very good. Glad I spontaneously stopped in, it will happen more often!

Chris M.

Yelp
A pub is easily the best friend to a solo traveler. I am fortunate enough to work for a company that will fly employees out to Boston from all over the place, put us up at a very nice hotel, and rent out a good portion of the House of Blues for a bash. I don't know too many of the employees, so hit Yelp to get a beer and evaluate my night. The Cornwall is right across from the hotel. I believe they have around 30-40 taps, and several bottles. I couldn't stop drinking the Smoked Stout and after I started talking to the regulars, Jameson became the chaser. Its here I had a big realization: 1) Boston people are great. Very friendly from my experience 2) They can drink. I wish I had a problem keeping up but I didn't 3) The cost of drinks are not the same in Boston as they are in Detroit Since almost all of my costs are covered, item 3 really isn't a huge deal. BTW - The bar staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.

Jimmy H.

Yelp
It's summer and ask if they got any fresh catch! My lad(he is British) and I are Friday regulars who always order Fish 'n Chips. And bartenders always let us know when they have fresh catch. The other night, they had very fresh clams. I am not a big fan of fried clam, but boy.... it was so f-in' tasty.... It was the best fried clam I have ever had. It was meaty, juicy..... heaven.....

Rinki P.

Yelp
Wanted a low-key dive bar with board games. But we never found them. They had pool tables, photobooth, and a singular videogame. This place draws an loder crowd unlike other places in Boston. We ended up not staying too long because it wasn't what had expected.

Steph W.

Yelp
Cornwall's is a good place to grab a beer or cocktail and play a boardgame. I went here last night and I think they've re-vamped their drink menu. I got a drink w/wild tea vodka and sparkling grapefruit juice and it was good. The moscow mule was alright too and they had drinks made w/aperol, campari, etc. The atmosphere of Cornwall's is def casual w/darts, pool tables, board games and random decor. It def has a pub feel. The service is standard. I do love that they have board games (Scrabble!) and feel like this may should earn them an extra star but since it is more of just a casual place, I think my max has to be 3.

Jeremy K.

Yelp
Went there in my pinstripes after attending a Red Sox vs. Yankees game at Fenway Park. The Yankees got spanked and I needed a drink. I was treated by two of my Red Sox buddies which was surprising but hey, I took it. Entered and despite a few stairs, no one gave me a hard time which is something that was actually pretty surprising. The beers were cold and we even managed to find seating. The place has food as well but we didn't order any. Although it's a fairly generic bar, especially in a city like Boston, I found Cornwall's to be pretty good. It's nearly always packed but there's always room there and you never feel too cramped. They have an area with pool tables and the staff is experienced and serve everyone quickly. A good go-to place in the Kenmore area. I liked it a lot. Good luck trying to park though.

Kimberly T.

Yelp
I've had many an afternoon and night at Cornwalls. Either at the bar with friends, sitting down for a nice dinner (the nachos and burgers are amazing), or playing a round of pool while nursing some drinks, I've never been disappointed. JR, Billy and staff are great people, can carry a great conversation and definitely make you feel welcome. This place is great for groups and the beer selection is on point. You can also take a gamble and ask the bartenders to make you up one of their concoctions. You won't be disappointed either!

Phoebe T.

Yelp
I'm a veteran and on my honeymoon for a weekend in Boston. If I could give zero stars I would! Around 5:30pm My spouse and I came to this establishment with friends because they recomended it as a good place that was fun and with good food. We all ordered a (1) drink (no liquor) after about 30 minutes of discussing a game to play and what food to order, we were notified that we were cut off and had to leave. Again, our party had all had one drink or less, and my partner was completely sober as she does not drink. I asked the waitress what was going on and explained that my spouse and I were sober (I had less than HALF of my 9 oz. beer) and was told we could stay with other friends who were allowed to stay, but others we were with were cut off. Then the 'owner' John then came up and told us we had to leave. Again I asked him why, and explained that I was sober and had less than half of my beverage and that my spouse was completely sober. I was told "that's too much, you have to leave" We left without issue, but we will not be returning this trip or any future visits to Boston and will absolutely will not recommend it for our friends, civilian or military, who plan to come to Boston at any point in time EVER! This was not a veteran friendly establishment. There are many other bars and establishments in Boston that we will gladly enjoy, this will not be one of them.

Jacie N.

Yelp
Fun, large bar with really nice bartenders and servers. Pool tables in the next room, plenty of seating, darts in the back of the bar. Wasn't too crowded on a Saturday night which was a nice surprise. And the TATER TOTS! Cheese, bacon, chives... it was bar food heaven.

Victoria C.

Yelp
I came here with a few friends on a rainy Saturday afternoon and we were looking to get some good food and play some board games for a little bit. We walked in and sat at a booth and the sweetest little girl came over and gave us menus for food and drinks. I ordered the mushroom burger and my friend ordered the portabella mushroom burger. Important distinction the portabella mushroom burger is vegetarian, so good to keep that in mind! Honestly, why haven't I been here sooner?! This family-owned business has great food and nice ambiance to hang around from day till night. The only downside of the board games is that many of the pieces are missing from the games, but luckily there are a few versions of the same game, so you're hopefully bound to find the piece you need. There's also a couple darts boards and pool tables to use. Overall, a great place to grab a drink and hang out with friends!

Kelly O.

Yelp
Cornwall's is one of those places we default to regularly... they've got a great beer list, decent prices (half pints, $18 for a pitcher of good beer) relaxed atmosphere, various games and sports to play (from board games to pool to Big Buck Hunter), and the area's pretty convenient for everyone. Last night I got to try the food, and it was also pretty solid... spinach and artichoke potstickers with sweet chili dipping sauce (so wrong but so right), and rich and filling chicken pie (made me 2 tasty, hearty meals for $11). Creeping up my list and into my regular watering hole rotation for sure...

Robert B.

Yelp
Very veteran-friendly place. I stopped by after the San Adams tour and was treated to a delicious burger.
