On our way to Tulsa, stopped in Nashville and had to check out Corsair Distillery, craft distillery renowned for its unique mash bills, including things like quinoa and buckwheat. Made its name with a triple smoke whiskey in which the peat and smoke with cherry and other woods.
This is a small operation so the tour is run casually, but it is no less informative for that. Our tour guide, whose name I regrettably have forgotten, asked ahead of time how much our group knew about whiskey and geared her presentation to that level. She was great about answering me and encouraging questions, and when she didn't know the answer to some questions she didn't BS about it she just said she didn't know. That is refreshing.
The tour costs $8, or $10 if you want a souvenir glass. For a small distillery I don't have a problem with that. At the end of the tour you can sample 5 alcohols that they select, +1 additional that you choose. We tasted a vanilla vodka vodka, a gin, and 3 whiskeys.
The amazing thing about Corsair in my opinion is how smooth all of the drinks were despite the short aging process. The head distiller here clearly knows what he's doing, and I am looking forward to trying the reasonably priced bottles I bought afterwards when I get home.
Also , our tour guide, whose name I again regrettably forgot, gave some great recommendations for local bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues after the tour. Just great.
