The Best Restaurants In Wilmington, Delaware - Wilmington - The Infatuation

"Cosmo’s is the kind of place where the diner next to you will likely ask the server how her sister’s surgery went while she pours a coffee refill. The classic breakfast—two eggs, potatoes, meat, and pancakes—is under $15 with tax and tip, and will hit the spot even if the potatoes could be crispier. At lunch, go for things like the loaded Greek fries that come topped with tzatziki and gyro meat. The space is a perfect ‘50s-style diner, with mostly booths so you don’t have to request one. There are cocktails, wine, and beer, though the menu specifies only after 9am, which should tell you something about what the vibe is like." - maddy sweitzer lamme

Google
Such a lovely experience with my little one at the diner for breakfast. Thanks to our server Hanna and boss John for being so accommodating and welcoming. Food was delicious also!

Google
Had lunch here with my wife and my son and overall it was an enjoyable experience. My son got a massive crab cake sandwich that was as big as his head. My wife ordered the mozzarella sticks and a chicken ceaser wrap which she really liked. I ordered the crazy greek fries which were very good. The only reason this place received 4 stars from me was the grilled ruben deluxe sandwich I ordered was very bland I didn't enjoy it at all but other than that it was a very nice establishment to sit down for lunch. I'll definitely go back but only to try some other options on the menu.

Google
Wonderful breakfast. Celebrated our anniversary ❤️ with a nice meal. Like my husband said "it's our new spot " :). Thank you for an awesome place and meal, and for making a memory thats special to me and my wonderful hard-working husband!

Google
Always a sure bet that meals will be made with quality ingredients and that they'll fill you up. Never had a bad dish in 20+ years of coming here for dine-in or takeout. The staff works very hard to give customers a first-rate experience. A notch above any standard diner fare.

Google
We have been regular customers for over 20 years. Classic diner atmosphere with great food and personal staff. Good for my wife and I, as well as bringing guests. The chef's Hollandaise sauce is the best! (Sunday's only)

Google
This was a great location conveniently located. I had Blueberry Pancakes, Scrambked Eggs, Canadian Bacon, Home Fries, and Wheat Toast. The food was tasteful and it was a pleasant experience. The person that served us was kind and the portions were decent. The food reheats well.

Google
The service was great! The food was delicious. We had stuffed salmon and smothered liver with onions. Took dessert home, and that was delicious as well (banana cream pie and plain cheesecake).

Google
I can't believe I am just finding this place! The creamed chipped beef was delicious. I'll be back.

Yelp
Cosmos is one of my old school go to spots. They do the basics, and don't mess anything up. Place is clean, and the food is prepared well. Service is always on point and friendly.

Paula C.

Yelp
Food is amazing as always , stop in and see for yourself . Service amazing , coffee so delicious, water I just love their water seriously the water is wonderful.and don't forget to get a cup of that delicious coffee .

John C.

Yelp
I ordered the French dip and it was absolutely horrible! The meat had no flavor whatsoever. I think they boiled the meat. I am never coming back to this rip off joint.

Marianne M.

Yelp
Ordered from DoorDash. Ordered a hot turkey sandwich and mashed potatoes with the gravy on the side. Order arrived with beef gravy on the turkey and on the side. Called the restaurant and they insisted it "was just darker than usual". They were rude . I know beef gravy when I see it and taste it. It is not edible! Have always liked the restaurant but I am done ! Never again !

Yelp
The Greek food is legit and it's delicious! I can't stop eating. This food is so good you'll make a mess in your pants. Takeout is what I got I could only imagine how good it is in person. The baklava is really fresh and flaky. I'm in love.

Yelp
This is the classic all American (greek) diner you know and love. The staff was kind, and while very busy was able to get our food to us incredibly quickly. I ordered coffee, eggs, bacon and potatoes for my side. The eggs weren't as cheesy as I liked, but the bacon was perfectly crispy and the potato were the whole show of my dish. Stayed apart of the clean plate club here and I'll be back again next time I'm in PA!!

Yelp
My go to diner for lunch when I'm working in the Wilmington area. I usually choose the special of the day. Soup and sandwich combos are usually the best choice. The service is always good and fast if your looking to grab lunch and get back to work. Today was no different with one problem. We asked the the bread be toasted. I don't send food back. It's the kitchens job to get it right the first time. Next time i stop in I will update my review. I know it will be better.

Yelp
What a time warp this place is. Classic Greek-run diner with decor to whip you right into 1980. Pastels, linoleum, and those ever-so oddly placed statues. Give this place another 5 years and maybe just a table top reno and this place will be the next retro hub coming totally full circle. [please get those table top music machines that you can flip through pages of songs and play for a quarter!! Lean all the way into it!!! Extensive menu- of course. But went with a Turkey and cranberry sandwich (comes with chips) Slippery dumpling order with chicken And a chocolate milkshake (hold the whipped) Service was pleasant and attentive. Food came out quickly. And for a $24 dinner, I really can't say much. Plenty of parking. Big ol neon sign outside so you can't miss it. For an off the beat, local diner in sort of the middle of nowhere, did the job. Over heard a few other customers talking about having ate there earlier for breakfast now coming back the same day for dinner so I'm sure the locals love it. Seems the kind of place where they get a lot of regulars.

Yelp
Stopped by this family diner on the way to Virginia Beach. Very casual, laid back atmosphere. Our waitress, Cindy, was awesome! Very personable and she did a nice job My meal was great. I ordered the Greek Spaghetti. Was cooked with garlic, butter and feta cheese and topped with grilled chicken. Delicious! I could only eat half of it because I was so full. Had the rest later for dinner. It warmed up nicely and there was enough left for my botfly and I to both have a large bowl of it. My entree came with a Greek Salad. That was terrific. Big chunks of feta and olives, finely chopped red peppered and a little onion. Yum! Also the meal came with fresh baked bread and butter! They bake their bread and desserts on site. My only regret was not having enough room to order one of their delicious desserts! I would definitely recommend stopping at this locally owned restaurant. The menu was extensive and I am sure anyone could kind something they would enjoy to eat!

Yelp
Cosmos has been around forever. I've lived in DE for over 35 years, and I tried it out for the first time this past month. It's not in the best area of Wilmington, but I've passed by in dozens of times. With a name like Cosmos, you'd expect it to have plenty of Greek offerings. They do, and they have just about everything else you'd expect for a diner-style restaurant. It takes you some time to navigate through the menu, so take a full look before ordering. There is a kids' menu and reasonably priced platters. My gyro was very good. My son' got a kids' pasta meal. The sauce, which we asked for on the side, had a hint of cinnamon, which was off-putting for my son. Wife's chicken salad was very large and is ideal for sharing. Limited parking next to the restaurant, but a nice sized lot across a small cross street. During Covid, we checked in and returned to our car until a table was ready for us; at which time, they called us to let us know that we were ready to be seated.

Yelp
We went here two days in a row while visiting Wilmington from out of town. The breakfast food was good, although service was slow (they noted they were understaffed, which is normal these days). On the second day we ordered two giant eclairs to go. We tried both on the way home but found that the filling in both had gone so sour they were inedible. It appeared that both had been sitting around a while, so keep that in mind when trying the desserts from their case.

Yelp
The vibe of this place brought back so many great memories. Love the sassy waitress and oldies on the radio. We got breakfast and it was great.

Yelp
Atmosphere: When I arrived for lunch, it was busy, but I still managed to get a table. Sitting in the middle wasn't my first choice, but when it's busy, it's busy. The outside is all cobblestone, while the inside has plenty of booths, tables, and a bar. There wasn't anything too unique, but it's a big space with plenty of seating. Coffee: The coffee was hot and fresh, and the whipped cream was homemade! I haven't had homemade whipped cream in a while, so it was a pleasant and exciting treat. Food: I wasn't sure what I wanted to order but settled on the Greek Plate Appetizer and a breakfast sandwich. The Greek Plate was good and came with Grilled Pita, Kalamata Olives, Cucumbers, Tomatoes, & Feta Cheese. It was served with fresh Tzatziki Sauce. I was relatively disappointed with the breakfast BLT sandwich. While it was good, I hoped for more. Maybe a side? It just seemed boring with just the sandwich. It was a good sandwich but nothing too exciting. Service: Our waitress was friendly, and our food came out fast. The issue was when we went to get the check; it took a long time. I needed to hit the road, but it took a while. In all, it was good service minus when I needed to leave. Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back? I liked Cosmos, and it's a good stop for anyone passing through Wilmington or local. I would go back. I would probably order a lunch item next time.

Yelp
my breakfast order got messed a couple times. first time i order home fries and they gave burt potatoes. second time they gave me bunrt french toast.incredible bad service and thuy refuse to give a refund. very unprofessional cook and server. never eating here again. very unprofessional. they lost thier touch.

Jim C.

Yelp
Food is good My #1 issue is another person brought my food to the table, while watching the server get food for other tables. Are the others more important than serving me? Hmmm

MaryJane V.

Yelp
This place is not as good as it once was. I take my elderly Mom there after Mass on Sunday every few weeks when I am visiting. The breakfast food used to he very good but since Spring of 2023 we have gotten somewhat bad food and it has come out cold after waiting 30 minutes for food to arrive after ordering. The waitresses are all very good however. The kitchen needs to get better. I don't plan to go back for a while.

Yelp
Cosmo's is alright. A pretty standard diner. Breakfast all day. Some good Greek dishes. I will say, their cakes and desserts all look amazing and everything I've tried has delivered on that. Kids menu has some unique choices. They have a cocktail menu of sorts but I've never ordered any alcohol here.

Marissa S.

Yelp
I would give this zero if I could, I love cosmos usually there food is good and fresh but me and my boyfriend just had breakfast there and ordered desserts to go....good thing we checked them before we ate them...they are covered in mold ...Im really sickened because we could have most definitely eaten this and got extremely sick
google avatar

Louis T.

Yelp
Great little diner! Looks recently remodeled . Staff was really good . food was good.. we oredered a greek specialty dinner.. very tasteful.

Sarah S.

Yelp
This could of been better. 1. I ordered an plain omelette and bacon. Not a bacon omelette with egg. 2. I don't want the meat cooked in my omelette. 3. Home fries slices of potato barely cooked.

Yelp
What can I say about Cosmos? I have been travelling to Maryland Avenue in Wilmington for 30 Years and I have most always stopped at Cosmos. In particular I love their Leg of Lamb with Greek Style Roasted Potatoes. I always start with the homemade Vegetable Soup. The Lamb is always great with the Lamb brown gravy. Make sure you call them in advance to see if they have the Leg of Lamb. I think they serve it every other Sunday. My philosophy on Greek Diners is that you should order off the Specials of the Day menu. You will not go wrong. Just don't forget; Cosmos is a Diner. The 5 star review is strictly for the food not the atmosphere.

Yelp
Food was wack ! Wife's Breakfast looked good . I had the gyro best choice for me had to return it . It was embarrassing

Yelp
My daughter is now 14 (original review was written 7 years ago) and I still feel the same way about Cosmos! I go most weekends and love the place, the people and the food!

Yelp
After a fun filled Saturday night. We all wanted to sit and eat a good meal to discuss all the shenanigans that happened the night before. Cosmos was perfect!! We were sat at a nice size table and instantly we knew we hit the jackpot when Cindy arrived at our table. Her presence was very friendly, inviting and her energy was A++. Cindy was absolutely amazing!!!!!! The food was very refreshing to say the least. I didn't know what to expect as diners can be hit or miss. We all had breakfast food and everyone was beyond satisfied with their meal. I had the cream chipped beef which was a meal I had a few times growing up and I must say it did not disappoint. This will definitely be a gem we will keep on our radar for the future.

Carol C.

Yelp
Good food especially for breakfast. The poached eggs are done exactly right. Coffee's good, bacon...all the extras. The extra special part of Cosmos is the waitstaff. A nice group of people. There's another restaurant close by Cosmos who could really benefit from emulating the waitstaff here. The other place hires old hags who hate everyone. Start your day with pleasant people. Go to Cosmos and have a terrific breakfast. You won't be sorry.

Yelp
I just had the BEST salad EVER! The Crispty goat cheese salad, I added shrimp and had them mix in the blush vinagrette dressing. I got it to-go and they actually put the fried cheese and shrimp on the side so it did not make it soggy before I sat down to eat. IF you are trying to eat better I highly recommend trying this salad. I only wish this place was closer to my work.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Always a great experience to dine in and enjoy breakfast when things are slow at work. Food is great as always and the atmosphere never fails

Halley D.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I visited this location yesterday and were very satisfied. Service was fantastic as well as the food! It's definitely close to the wrong side of town but it wasn't in a bad location overall. We will definitely be visiting again!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered food from this restaurant thinking it was similar to restaurant I was used to from back home (I'm from out of state). I was absolutely appalled at how terrible the food was. I honestly think you could buy a gyros kit in the grocery store and make a better gyros. The gyros had exactly 4 pieces of meat on it and the tomatoes were rotten!!!!! The salad was old and wilted. The greek salad had 3 olives I small chunk of feta and just plain wilted cheap.iceburg lettuce. Please do yourself a favor and never go to this restaurant!

Kahina R.

Yelp
For dinner I DO NOT recommend them.. My husband and I took a bite of our meal and said we didn't like it .. My ham looked gray In spots and tasteless and so husband's meal tasteless.. We usually have breakfast there and it's yummy so I was confused.. I just asked for a refund so we could go home and was told I couldn't have one because it had already been placed in the computer.. (WHAT DOES THAT MEAN) The manager told us no refund but to come back at another time and she would remember us and give us a free meal.. We don't want to cause a scene because they are hard workers so we left. I can only recommend breakfast and that's it ..
google avatar

Ambrose G.

Yelp
Bright and clean breakfast spot. Friendly staff, reasonable prices and the food is good.

C. L.

Yelp
We have had some good meals here. Not today. We invited our son and grandson to join us for a combined birthday/ Mother's Day celebration. The place was busy, but not crazy busy. We ordered breakfast and lunch. To a person, each one of us was disappointed. When our waitress came back to check on us, even she gave my spanakopita the fish-eye, but didn't offer to send it back due to the overcooking. And how do you ruin pancakes? None of us wanted to cause a scene and ruin an otherwise pleasant day. We travelled here from near Oxford, Pa., so, coupled with the high gas prices, a very disappointing outing! Also, a long wait time before our order was even taken. And please don't sit a party of 4 in a 2-person booth.

Jason C.

Yelp
They have a fairly decent menu. I've eaten her several times for lunch and can't say I've had a bad experience. My only issues have been sometimes you don't know exactly what you'll end up with I've ordered the veal cutlet twice with marinara sauce and both times got chicken. Service is friendly and fast so if you're looking for a quick bite with a lot of options this is a place to try out.
google avatar

Yelp
You can't go wrong with this all time classic restaurant. The food quality is always top notch and the service is superb. Thumbs up to the owners for keeping up for that long with consistency and a clean restaurant with massive portions. I would visit more frequent if I lived closer but they will have my support anytime I'm in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
This diner is great! We got seated quickly and away from other people, due to the virus. Our waitress was great! She was friendly, took our order in a timely manner, and paid attention to our very specific requests. She also checked on us multiple times throughout our meal. Our food arrived quickly and was very good! We were very satisfied. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely come back!
google avatar

Crystal J.

Yelp
We visit this establishment frequently and must say Mandy is the best server. She is so kind and has a very positive attitude all the time . Goes above and beyond to make sure her customers are satisfied . Thank you Mandy for everything. We hope your boss truly recognizes your amazing work .

Walt H.

Yelp
First time eating here, had breakfast. Ordered the "big breakfast", sort of a sampling of breakfast items. Portions were hardy, food was good. Service was good and responsive. Worth the trip
google avatar

Jack C.

Yelp
A diner, yet lots of food choices, with greek dishes also. Food leans towards homemade, mom style. Casual atmosphere. Prices a little in high side but if the resturant was fancier, ie white tablecloths, dim lighting, etc they wouldn't be considered high. Have had greek lasagna, chicken and dumplings, soups, rice pudding, and meat loaf.
google avatar

Altair D.

Yelp
A Delaware staple! Breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you will be satisfied with the traditional diner-style comfort food! Fast service and food comes right out, hot and ready!
google avatar

Chrissy C.

Yelp
Food was barely average and our waitress was extremely rude. When I spoke with the woman at the register about our waitress, she acted like she could care less. Won't be back.

Trish K.

Yelp
Best Greek salad I've ever had!! It's a little off the beaten track but well worth it!!

Mike M.

Yelp
It's been years since I had Greek food that was as good as this place! The service was fast even on a very busy Friday night, the staff was incredibly friendly. The food was so fresh and well prepared- I'll definitely be back.

Alees C.

Yelp
First I ordered a turkey sandwich and that didn't even give me a whole sandwich and then waitress was bad and they didn't tell us that refills cost extra
google avatar

Billy C.

Yelp
Greek Diner. Typical Diner decor and atmosphere. Prices are very good. Hearty-sized portions. Mostly locals. I have been there a few times before but for some reason, the bread they served last night was like they just finished baking it and just brought it out of the oven. Spread some whipped butter over it and bam all of a sudden 2 portions of bread gone. I had the Sheppard's Pie (Ground beef, corn, string beans, carrots at the bottom of a deep dish with some sauce, smothered with Mashed potato on top and then baked. Served with side of brown gravy and side salad or veggies.) I don't know if I was hungry or it was that good, but I finished every bit of it. Very good. Reminds me of Hamburger Helper. $9.50 Dishes I have tried: Chicken Pot pie (Good) Beef Stew (Good) They also have traditional Greek food like Pastichio & Mousakka.
google avatar

Chuck C.

Yelp
You cannot beat this place for price and quality. Its a popular hangout for blue hairs, which could lend to the pricing. My only complaint would be the tiny glasses OJ and other breakfast beverages are served in - but that's every diner. My favorite breakfast combo is French Toast, 2 eggs and Scrapple. Sweet mercy its good and the service is fast. This is not a place for late night, but totally worth a stop if you're in the area and hungry.
google avatar

Kristin P.

Yelp
I love Cosmos! I have been going to Cosmos for 10 years. The food is good and the staff makes you feel very welcome. Portions are generous. Don't expect gourmet food here. What you get here is good diner food and a few Greek dishes that are made well. I usually get breakfast and it is always good. The spanikopita (sp?) is always good too. And oh my...the lamb is great when they have it. My friend and I meet at Cosmos about every few months. We eat and chat for hours. No one makes us feel bad for taking up space for a long time and some waitresses even join our conversation. Going to Cosmos is like being at your friend's house. You always feel welcome and comfortable. And there's good food too. Prices are good. You can get a full breakfast and coffee for under $10.
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
A a first time visitor to Delaware and a lover of Mediterranean food, this restaurant was a disappointment. I'm okay with diners, but to classify this restaurant as "Mediterranean" is wrong. Although there are a few Mediterranean dishes, the majority of the menu is diner-inspired, fried and fatty. I had the gyro sandwich and, although piping hot on arrival, it resembled a frozen meal that was simply heated through. The fries were amazing. But, I would expect nothing less from a diner.
google avatar

GoBlue G.

Yelp
Grits were nice and creamy !! If looking for just good diner food to fill you up with a good cup of coffee Cosmo's won't dissappoint.

Martin S.

Yelp
I have always enjoyed a good Greek diner, unfortunately this is not one of them. I always order the gyro sandwich or platter as a judge authenticity. What came to my table I could have bought at Arby's. The gyro was the frozen stuff, you can tell by the edges of the meat, rounded not sharp and very little of it, four slices on the pita. The tzatziki was practically melted so it's not kept cool until it is served. This poor showing has to call into question everything else they serve. I won't be coming back and I would suggest you look elsewhere for your Greek fix. On a side note, The baklava was tasty, albeit a little dry, not topped with honey.
