The Best Crab Cakes in Baltimore | Bon Appétit

"A long-running Dundalk institution started in 1971 by Greek restaurateurs, famous for jumbo lump crab cakes offered in five- and eight-ounce portions and seasoned with bread, mayo, Old Bay and a proprietary spice blend. The casual, worker-friendly spot has become a local go-to for crab and remains family-run as it expands to a planned second location." - ByChristina Tkacik

21 June 2025 Party of 5 arrived around 4 p.m. with no wait. It was my first time at this establishment. We were seated in the dining area. Our server was not tentative and stood at one end of a rectangle table to take our orders. We had to repeat our requests several times and had no opportunity to ask questions. Due to the distance, the interaction was not comfortable. That said, I ordered the "Chesapeake Sandwich," which proved to be an epic failure. It is a club sandwich (which is not compatible with my lifestyle as I consume small portions in a sitting). I'll post the description and see for yourself if you would know it is a club sandwich and fries! Very disappointing. That said, I asked for "no mayonnaise, I don't eat it." Well, I received this "shrimp salad" ON this club sandwich saturated in mayonnaise. NO, I did NOT expect it would have mayonnaise. I envision salads as having lettuce and tomatoes, etc! Excepting "Seafood salad " My exposure. The crabcake was not warm, and the fries cold upon arrival. I asked for hot fries and still did not care for them. That said, the Maryland Crab Soup was delectable! I highly recommend it. There is ample parking. The menu prices are as stated. Portions were small, in my opinion. Overall, I'm totally disappointed with my dish. The staff in passing were friendly and helpful. I would return for the Maryland Crab soup. Ask questions for a better indication of what to expect and improved experience. That was a waste of my man's money since I found the club distasteful and it was tossed! We did not complain to management.

This is the REAL DEAL! Costas Inn has the best crab cakes in Maryland and has been the sports reporters’ after-game meet-up place for years. We arrived on a Saturday night and were immediately seated amongst a lively and crowded dining room. The trays of freshly seasoned & steamed crabs constantly flew by in the arms of well healed servers after rolling out table sized sheets of brown paper. Eating steamed crabs is an art - an art of being messy with your hands. A taste well rewarded. This is a fifty-year Baltimore tradition and remains in the second generation as a family owned restaurant. Over 11,000 crabs are sorted PER WEEK for various dishes to be served. If you live in Baltimore, you are likely already familiar with Costas. If you’re visiting, take a night to experience this establishment’s robust menu of appetizers, fresh soups, crab cakes, raw bar selections, salads, pastas and much more. On this night I had fried oysters, broccoli and Mac & cheese. A week earlier we decided to try the newest Costas location in Timonium at the state fairgrounds in the actual grandstand building. I had the jumbo 8 oz crab cake and it was awesome with no filling other than light breading and egg to hold the immense lumps of crab meat together. We started with bowls of Maryland Crab soup. I noticed on the menu that they even have gluten free crab cakes available. All in all, both locations were a great experience from the food to the service and great atmosphere! You won’t be disappointed.

1st time visit. It was nice. The crabs were perfect. Well seasoned and meaty. The drinks were on point! The service was top tier. Maddie our hostess was very accommodating and helpful with making recommendations. She was sweet and definitely on board with making it a great experience for us. She even rinsed off a few crabs per our request. Bartender was friendly and engaging. Nice atmosphere 👌🏽

My brother and his wife treated us to an anniversary dinner here, and it was a great experience from start to finish. We kicked things off with raw oysters and calamari both fresh and flavorful. For the main course, we had shrimp Alfredo and a dozen crabs. The shrimp Alfredo was rich and creamy, and the crabs were the star of the show. They were generously coated in Old Bay a little strong on the seasoning, but it didn’t overpower the sweet, fresh crab meat. Overall, a great spot for seafood lovers and a memorable way to celebrate a special occasion.

My friends and I, visiting from out of state, stopped in for lunch at Costas, and what a fantastic choice it was! I was a bit unsure about proper crab-eating etiquette, but our waitress, Michelle, was an absolute gem. She treated us like royalty, offering superb suggestions and even letting us sample the cream of crab soup before we ordered—a delightful touch! The crab cakes and steamed crabs were truly out of this world. To top it all off, Nick, the owner, stopped by our table. He chatted with us like we were old friends and even took a picture with us, making us feel like part of the family. Our visit to Costas couldn't have been better, we highly recommend it!

We ordered at the carry out, waited about 25 minutes. I ordered the stuffed shrimp W/crab imperial, it came with 2 sides. The meal was $30. What a rip off for 3 small stuffed shrimp, the sides were larger than the shrimp. Although it was tasty, I would not order it again! Very disgusted with size and amount of shrimp I got.

Had a great experience — it’s easy to see why this place has been around so long. The seafood was fresh and delicious, and the service was genuinely friendly and welcoming. You can tell they really care about their guests. Everything was clean and well-kept. The built-in 18% tip was absolutely worth it — honestly, they deserved more. Highly recommend!

Great lunch experience! Staff were extremely friendly (including bar staff) and service was awesome! I dined but entered through the bar area. Bread came out immediately (little overcooked). Server (Jennifer) showed great hospitality and Chuck has a humorous, good spirited personality. Very clean and odor free establishment Food came out hot, fresh and flavorful. (Didn’t take long at all. 18% Gratuity is automatically included No complaints

Yelp
Some of the best seafood in Baltimore is at Costas Inn! Their new location at the Timonium Fairgrounds grandstand is worth the trek (especially once you figure out how to park and find it). Huge portions with quality seafood! Particularly loved Crab eggrolls stuffed with crab dip 1 1/4 LB lobster special topped with lump crab imperial Double soft shell crab platter Excellent service for a memorable meal! Lots of tables, tons of TV screens. Only drawback is the bathrooms are outside the restaurant and it can be a bit muggy if the weather is hot outside.

Yelp
My son and his fiancé will be married in August. She and her folks are from PA around Scranton. They will also be setting up home in Dundalk to live after their PA wedding. Their Timonium church had a reception for them after the service and I wanted to show her family Baltimore hospitality, especially as they'll be living close by, in fact, in the same neighborhood as the young lady who served us today. My son, daughter and I and the fiances' family had lunch at Costas. And I live close to their NEW Timonium location but, had to go to the flagship today! We don't really have a budget for steamed crabs, but Costas has enough to the menu to satisfy anyone. To open things up most of us had soup: either cream of crab, MD crab or the delightful Half n Half - MD and Cream of Crab combined. I had the half and half. Incredible! Entrees consisted of stuffed rockfish, St Michael's salmon in a rose cream sauce, blackened shrimp, fried shrimp, a pork chop in Demi glaze and the broiled half pound crab cake. Keep in mind the son's future in laws are foodies and were comparing Costas fare with stuff enjoyed at a favorite in Havre de Grace. Costas wins! The food, service and ambiance were top shelf! Our server responded to a party member's question about the Demi glaze with their pork chop and allergen "contamination" as they're allergic to egg, gluten, dairy and are sensitive to shellfish. Our server was the best and I'm embarrassed I haven't memorized her name. My guests had a blast and loved the Costas experience! The check was about I expected with the 18% tip automatically added to the bill. No worries: I paid cash and rounded things up for her and going over and above for us! Yeah, I love the flagship and will be visiting both houses.

Yelp
After seeing so many reviews online, we had to stop by and give it a try. Made the trip from Florida for the hubby's birthday, and we had a time. We ordered a little bit of everything and enjoyed almost everything we tried. From the deviled egg with crab on top to the crab cake along with a cup of half and half. The seafood platter needed a little seasoning but tasted fresh. The jumbo crabs were amazing. Definitely worth the money and wait. Service was good. Jenny was nice and attentive. She's very nice and made sure we had what we needed. The ambiance was cozy and not over the top. A cool place to get into a pile of crabs. We would visit again if ever in the area again.

Yelp
Costas Inn is one of my favorite places to to get steamed blue crabs. The crabs come out hot and perfectly spiced. Plenty of other choices on the menu if you don't like to pick crabs. Our table had crab cakes, Maryland crab soup, and oyster stew. The service here is good. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. The owner even stopped by our table to check on us. Don't be put off by the brown paper "tablecloths". Eating crabs is messy business lol. I was a bit disappointed to see an 18% tip automatically added to the check. I actually gave our waiter more than 18% because our experience was worth it. Nonetheless automatic tips is a trend I'd like to see reversed.

Yelp
My office ordered takeout from here today, very large order. Everyone received their food so that is a plus! I got calamari and Maryland Crab soup. Both were good however I wish there was more crab in my soup. Flavor was good though.

Yelp
This easy to find restaurant on North Point Blvd looks like it is always busy between the bar and dining room. Because the parking lot was nearly full, we said what the heck, we can always leave. We were seated in their large dining room right away. There were 3 full tables from a company party and they had crabs! And with them lots of conversations and noise. It was ok, not enough to say we'll be back another day. Service was perfect and portions were large. My husband had the northern bean and ham soup, yum, and not too salty, and plenty of flavor but not much meat. He added on a tuna salad wrap, this came with seasoned French fries. I ordered the 3 Baja Shrimp Tacos, very fresh, they came with French fries, salsa, and sour cream. Talk about mouth feel, it was there. Perfectly seasoned with texture. The shrimp appeared to be mediums. They do give military discount. The only thing I did not care for was the tip being automatically added on at 18%.

Yelp
A nice little spot off the beaten path so to speak, that as a restaurant / bar delivers some pretty good food options and a few decent beer choices with some craft on tap. The staff there has always been pretty friendly and accommodating, and on top of things. And if you like crabs, then this will definitely be a place for you to check out as people do go at it with the crab cracking that takes place.

Yelp
Costas has become our family's go-to for crabs. They offer a comfortable, family friendly crab house atmosphere and all of the essentials to enjoy a delicious feast of hard shells: lots of old bay, pitchers of boh, mallets, buckets, and butcher paper. If you're not up for the work involved in picking, their crab cake is a delicious option. It's packed with lump crab meat (one of my favorite crab cakes in Baltimore). Their crab dip is a great appetizer too.

Yelp
In general their food is amazing! Just ordered a take out my sister and law got cream of crab to go. She asked for it to be cold cuz we were traveling. Soup is good like always but I was thrown off by the soufflé cup of crab meat, which I'm assuming is jumbo lump and there was probably maybe three maybe even four pieces of crab meat in the soufflé container I guess I was supposed to add my own crab meat to the soup so I guess that's all the crab meat they give to you in a cream of crab and they don't put it in there. You have to put it in the soup yourself which is fine but it's just so random that I literally get the small soufflé cup of crab meat, but I asked for a side of obey, and they literally fill the soufflé cup to the very top. A little bit of old bay goes a long way. I would never use this much old bay in my soup. I feel like it is a waste to give that much old day out to your customers you could keep the obey and maybe give some more crab meat for your soup.

Yelp
I saw this place on Instagram and the food looked amazing. I looked this place up on Yelp and saw that they had good reviews. We arrived for our reservation at 2 on Sunday and were greeted by a nice lady who sat us at our table. Dominic ended up being our waiter and he was EXCELLENT! Very attentive. He knew the menu well. He was always readily available. While the service was GREAT, the food was extremely underwhelming. For starters we ordered the Calamari and the Devil Eggs. The Calamri was Seasonless and bland. Same goes for the Devil eggs. For our entrees we ordered the Crab Cake Platter, the Shrimp and Scallops Alredo and he Seafood Mac & Cheese. The portion sizes as HUGE which is a plus however all of the food is bland and tasteless. I don't think the chef uses any type of seasonings. The Crab Cakes were cold. The fries were good. My mother ordered the crabs and those were cooked to perfection. They came out hot and good seasoning. The service saves this place as Dom is a rockstar. The food is extremely underwhelming. I'm glad I gave them a shot but it's a one and done for me.

Yelp
Lived in Baltimore all my life but never been to Costas'. Wife and I were in area decided to stop for lunch on a Saturday. Started w clams casino and they were really good. Split 1/2 dozen of xl crabs and they were meaty, large and delicious. They were expensive but great. Natty Bohs on draft and we were full. Fun time and very old school.

Yelp
It was a bit weird walking through the bar to an area that is part service bar/part hostess and entrance to the dining room. I was Greeted promptly and was seated quickly without a reservation. Tuesday 6ish. It's a large, open room with dining tables and crab eating tables. Several larger tables held large groups. The room is open floor plan, moderate lighting, no music and people talking and enjoying their food. It's loud. Really loud at times. Service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and ready to bring whatever we could have possibly needed. We planned to get crab cakes ($5 off on Tuesday) instead we ordered a dozen large crabs And a bunch of appetizers. The crab dip was in a bread bowl that was flakey/crispy/chewy and perfect. The dip was good but was hoping for something better/more. Crab egg rolls were fun, tasty and lots of lump Meat. The 1/2 crab soup was referred to as decent (?). Now onto the crabs. They came out hot, plenty of seasoning and picture perfect. They were steamed and seasoned every bit I could have hoped for. Taste was amazing and the meat was perfectly cooked. I would have liked the crabs to be heavier but I understand the time of season (local Crabs will get heavier soon). Kinda crazy to think they were $10 a crab tho. 120 dz for large. Overall had a great experience with service and food. Will gladly go back. Not a big deal but thought I'd point out they add an 18% service fee to all checks. I had no problem with this, I even added more, but I know some people prefer to know In Advance. Think $120 dozen crabs + 18% gratuity. Easy $140+ a dozen.

Yelp
Costas always has nice size crabs! . Their onion rings are good. I haven't had any bad food here ever. Try the whole menu. Definitely not a fancy place. Very Baltimore atmosphere! Go see try!

Yelp
08/19/23: First stop on our Baltimore crab cake run. Lively atmosphere. Our waitstaff very pleasant and always had a smile on her face. We were a large party but never felt rushed and she was very attentive. My first time. Wasn't impressed much for all all that work to get to the crab. But once obtained sweet and tasty. I had the fried crab cake it was ok I think I'm team broiled. We also partaked in the tower and shrimp cocktail. All were very yummy. Great time had by all.

William E.

Yelp
Best soft shell crabs I ever had . Can not wait to go back next week. Service was also very prompt.

Yelp
Great food, no waiting, goes the extra mile. Fresh ingredients and takes the time to do it right. Good service. Will be back.

Yelp
What in the world! My work goes here a lot. I'm always so disappointed and I should know better but I keep hoping it will get better. Yesterday I had the fried crab cake sandwich. The crab cake was over fried and flavorless. The fries were cold, the bun was hard and dry. Today I tried the Reuben sandwich. The meat was so chewy I couldn't eat it! Today the fries were cold and left in the oil too long. Every time I tried this place it lets me down. Come on. You charge so much it should be executed better. I really want to like this play due to the convenience but after all these years of this was my last attempt.

Yelp
We found Costa's Inn because we wanted authentic Maryland crab cakes. Google did not lead us astray! We were greeted warmly by a friendly member of the wait staff who took our order quickly and checked by just the right amount of times. Our crab cakes were perfectly prepared - succulent fresh crab meat cooked to perfection with a crispy crust. We had another stop so we couldn't sample more of the menu but we'll definitely be back - all the way from Texas! We highly recommend!

Yelp
Good food and service was good. Good bartender didn't have much of a cocktail list, I sit at the bar most times best service. Rustic like a lot of the seafood places that sell crabs

Yelp
My first time eating at Costas was tonight. I enjoyed looking at the pictures on the wall and noticed Hoda and Kathi-Lee's picture. I don't know the history behind Costas since I've never heard of the place until tonight. We had a family dinner and birthday. Our server was Jenny and she was very nice and patient with us in the beginning. The rest of our party was late because of the weather. Jenny kept checking in on us. When the rest of our party arrived, Jenny put in our order of crabs. The star of the night were the crabs. They were huge! We also ordered hush puppies and mussels. The hush puppies were delicious and the mussels were made differently than I am used to. They added cheese and it was pretty good. At the end, Jenny was on the ruder side. She may have gotten annoyed that some people in our party asked for the Jay-O to be washed off because of the high salt content. Or maybe because some people ordered more food. Who knows! The ambiance is simple and the bar area is huge. There were a lot of people eating in the bar area, not just drinking. I will definitely keep this place on my radar for good seafood.

Yelp
Such a huge fan of Costas Inn! This place has been around since the early '70s, and they offer a pretty extensive menu (apps, soups, salads, pasta dishes, seafood entrees, sandwiches & subs, lunch combos, raw and steamed seafood, and desserts). Forget about everything else and just come here for their meaty blue crabs and their amazing broiled crab cakes! The crabs are perfectly prepared, and their Old Bay house seasoning mix is sooo good! Don't forget to request hot drawn butter! The crab cakes is literally the best - all lumps, no fillers, and the taste is perfection - you will definitely get full off of these, but it's hard to stop shoving them in your mouth! You need to call ahead and reserve for crabs, because they only get a certain amount shipped in and they WILL run out - guaranteed. Don't chance it! Apparently, celebrities stop by all the time - I can see why! Ask for Chuck - he has such a great sense of humor and really makes your dining experience that much more special! Depending on where you're coming from, it is a bit of a drive, but totally worth it! Plenty of parking in their private lot. +reserve for crabs! +crabs! +crab cakes! +ask for Chuck! +plenty of parking in private lot

Yelp
The best crab restaurant in Baltimore. The old bay spice is perfectly portioned to the steamed crabs and the seasoning taste can't be beat. The Maryland Crab Soup is the best we have ever had and it is consistently the best every time we go. Never had a bowl that was delicious. They have that recipe down to a science. My daughter always gets the 1/2 and 1/2 soup. She loves it. The staff is always friendly, especially Jen, our favorite waitress. Ask for her she won't steer you wrong and she is just right on how attentive she is. I love it that someone, either the owners or part of the family, stop by our table to check on our dining experience. Just writing this review makes my mouth water for the soup. We just love the restaurant.

Yelp
I was visiting a friend in Baltimore and she took me here. Little did she know that eating Maryland crabs with a wooden mallet in a brown papered covered table was something I have always wanted to do. When we arrived we were seated instantly... reservations are a must! I always suggest making a reservations. Our waiter... Matt I think was great. One of my friends I was with was a little demanding... or high maintenance. He handled it well. There is something about a dozen crabs sliding off a tray onto the brown paper covered table. I feel like that deserves an ASMR video.... Ha! The crabs were delish and nice and hot! I did have the cream of crab soup, it was good but THICK. In all this is a great place! I loved the atmosphere.

Yelp
I am giving a 5 star rating more so because of the service my family received from, Shelia. She was amazing! Very knowledgeable, friendly and really just the perfect patient person to handle all of our diverse personalities. We got the viral crab tower which for $350, was not worth the price. You do get a lot of food but not all items taste the best. The jalapeño crab poppers, soft shell crab and steamed shrimp was my favorites off the tower. It's really just a good way to sample pretty much the entire appetizer menu. We also ordered large male crabs. Now the crabs...DELICIOUS! Very heavy and meaty. We will definitely be back for crabs in the future!
google avatar

Yelp
The service was excellent, the food was great. I had the northern bean and ham soup ant the tuna wra, both excellent and half of the wrap went home.

Yelp
They take walk-ins and reservations and reservations are highly recommended. We were walk-ins and didn't have much of a wait at all. The only downside was that we couldn't get the size crabs that we wanted but we understood as it was Fathers Day weekend. Our crabs came out steaming hot and seasoned to perfection! It was a nice atmosphere and vibe. Our server Marcie was wonderful! This will be one of out new crab spots. Next time I will be trying food from the menu.

Rhondelle L.

Yelp
they never disappoint 2 x's the charm staff treat you like family abundance of joy and happiness full just thinking about the food. the shrimp are easy to pull not mushy mussels were in a sauce crab cake was so delicious. Definitely my #1 seafood spot .

Yelp
Underwhelmed by a Monday evening dinner. My husband received a gift certificate for Costas so we decided to give it another try after a couple of years. The server was prompt, courteous and attentive. We chose the Monday night special of a 1/2 lb. Crab cake with two sides for 27.95. We also ordered a bowl of cream of crab soup as a starter which, as many ppl know, can easily be a hit or a miss. Tonight it was a miss. It was made with a very thick, lumpy flour base with very little crabmeat in it. We couldn't eat it as it was and ended up letting the server know our feedback about it. He very kindly agreed to take it off the check. The broiled crab cakes we had were OK but they didn't seem to be cooked through in the middle and were not hot. Sides were all good: saffron rice and mushrooms for my husband, a side salad with delicious croutons and a baked potato for me. The dining room tables, chairs and decor are typical of a crab house...nothing fancy but comfortable enough. The Orioles game was playing on a big screen TV. Other patrons were enjoying steamed crabs which looked delicious. We are lucky because there are so many choices of restaurants for us in the nearby area, so we aren't sure whether we will be back since the food was only fair for a relatively pricey cost.
google avatar

Ashley J.

Yelp
A bit disappointed. As a regular, I'm sick in bed this time and had my husband grab oyster stew w/ the side of crab meat. Normally it's separate... there were left over oyster (pieces) in the stew and not the full 3 ounce crab meat. I'd say it's not good to order take out. And yes, everything was sealed closed and stapled... the ball was just dropped in the kitchen this time. 2 stars ONLY because I'm a regular.

Yelp
FABULOUS just FABULOUS!!!! There are plenty of reasons celebrities and even dignitaries from foreign countries go here. It's well worth the drive. Great atmosphere/ vibe with servers that are ON IT. I think the closely knit tightly run family operation of over 50 years has fine- tuned this famous establishment. YOu wont be disappointed. Alex Karas

Yelp
I have been frequenting Mr Bill's for my crab dine in experience. Unfortunately, the customer service Does Not match the quality of the crabs. I called yesterday for them to tell me they had crabs and a few hours later to arrive, the lady said they were out and only had a few dozen from the previous day that had sold already. She stated she wasn't sure why I wasn't told that when I called. I asked the waitress if she knew of any place in the area and she suggested COSTAS , but said they may not have any. I called and went to COSTAS. COSTAS Crabs were equally delicious as Mr Bill's, if not , BETTER! AND..... After the Wonderful customer service experience at COSTAS , I feel as if I was being abused at Mr Bill's (smh) That's how bad the service was and I went there 3 weeks in a row. All I can say is a "Big Thank You" to the staff at Mr Bill's who recommended COSTAS, bc that's my new dine in crab spot! I spoke with the Mgr/Owner, Pete to express how pleased I was with the Crabs, Hush puppies and Customer Service! A special "Thank You" to Ginny, Josh and Breanna for the Great customer service. I look forward to visiting your establishment in the near future! #goodcustomerservicematters

Yelp
The crabs were really good. The seasoning was good. The service was great from start to finish. The deviled eggs with crab were tasty to start off our meal. The pit turkey was good. Fries were kinda dry. Overall, we throughly enjoyed the food and everything. I had to make a reservation. We arrived a few minutes early and was seated promptly. There were slot of Birthday celebrations taking place. Including us. Lol. This seems to be a place to go for a special event. The crabs are a little pricey but worth it. I would definitely return.

Teddy A.

Yelp
Food is generally good however the cream of crab soup is thick like paste not soup although there is a lot of crab meat in it. Holidays are awful. We have been waiting on our food for almost 90 minutes. Then they forgot2 meals and we are still waiting though they said be back in a minute (10 minutes ago). No crowd, no problem. Excuse from the waiter was we are super busy so I suggested he put a sign up saying when super busy do not expect service. He did not think it was funny. Just got other 2 meals but some were cold and some raw the rest just warm.

Yelp
Delicious Crab Cake, huge, delicious Cobb Salad and meaty Cream of Crab Soup along with great beers on tap. The bartenders were friendly, prompt and provided great service of keeping the beers filled and getting our food order in. This is a great neighborhood Dundalk restaurant that exemplifies what is great about Baltimore. We enjoyed the local atmosphere. Other folks at the bar were friendly and having a good time too.

Yelp
If you want hot steamed, heavy, meaty XL & Jumbo crabs... Deliciously buttered to perfection sweet corn. Then look no further. It really can't get no better than this. A crab lovers dream. Thank you for your consistent good customer service & quality seafood.

Sharon D.

Yelp
The crabs are huge when you order. The price was fair compared to other crab restaurants. The servers are awesome and ready to help you with your request. I would recommend getting your order from here. The place has a happy vibe and friendly surroundings. I would make reservations as it is very pleasant and popular.

Yelp
Do not get the prime rib the service was phenomenal. Everyone sooooo nice the owner was there and so nice the crabs looked great I will go back to try the crabs. Only 3 stars because the prime rib was so bad. I like it med rare and it was Chewy and lacking of favor even the fat was not ediable.

Yelp
After driving past this place for years I finally decided to go in. I ordered some cream of crab I have to say I'm not impressed. To each his own but I've definitely had much better cream of cream

Yelp
This was my first time at Costa's and really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and background music. We made reservations for a dozen medium to large male crabs but when we got there, they said the mediums were no good so they gave us the option for large ... we ended up getting 6 large male crabs for $60. I think eating crabs this way is more for the experience than the actual food itself. It's a lot of work for the amount of meat you're getting but it was very tasty. We ordered the 5oz crab cake $21. It was delicious with large pieces of crab. A must try if you're coming here! We tried a bowl of the cream of crab soup $8.50 and it was also delicious and had nice chunks of crab meat in it. The best item we tried was the soft shell crab sandwich! $21 It was perfectly seasoned and crunchy. The tomato was so fresh and really paired nicely with the fresh crisp lettuce. The pickle on the side really help blend all the flavors together. The last thing we tried was the Orange Roughy Imperial (can't remember the price) and was excellent. A nice tasty combination and something we would definitely order again.

Yelp
Visited last weekend and the drive was well worth it. This local family owned business is super cute and has great service. Upon entering the restaurant through the bar area we were greeted my one of the owners. I knew she was one of the owners from the posted articles within the restaurant. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant. And the crabs were meaty and delicious.

Yelp
In the late 90's early 2000's they had good food and nice atmosphere. But I can't see my self even going in the parking lot now. It dose not give a safe vibe. Last time I went the food was not that good. The service was a rude bar tender that took 30 mins to ask me anything in a almost empty bar.

Yelp
Heard many good things about Costas so when Baltimore County Restaurant Week came, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try it out. Maybe it's better for steamed crabs because I was underwhelmed. Service was great but the food was average. My boyfriend and I had soup for starters. I had the Cream of Crab soup and he got Maryland Crab soup. His soup was great but mine needed a little extra seasoning and it wasn't as much crab as I thought it would be. For entrees, I had the Salmon St. Michael and he had the Steak and Cake. My salmon was a bit too salty but the rose sauce on top helped to even out the flavor a bit. His crab cake was good but the steak was bland. I usually can do a nicely seasoned or marinated steak with steak sauce but the steak sauce was needed this time. I guess this is a true crab house. Next visit will be for the steamed crabs and nothing else.
