"Coterie, a new wine-focused Downtown bistro, just made its debut in Market Square Tower. The new 1,500 square-foot eatery is the project of two wine-obsessed entrepreneurs, Sean Marshall, founder of Southside Espresso, and Charles “Chaz” Lusk, a healthcare executive and “serial entrepreneur” from the world of start-ups. According to a press release, the space was designed by the Costa Group, and was intended to create a vibe that can seamlessly transition from casual brunch service to nighttime dining. 'The visual features were designed to serve as both a morning respite and evening retreat,' Lusk said in a statement. 'We can purposefully change the energy of Coterie with our lighting and music.' The bar serves as a double-duty destination for artisan espresso drinks — presumably from Marshall’s arsenal of carefully-selected beans — and boozy options including cocktails, beer, and wine. It also boasts a view of the rotating wines painstakingly chosen by Marshall and Lusk, a preview of what’s on offer in the restaurant’s walk-in wine room. In fact, the duo’s obsession with the fermented grape extends to the point that they are each pursuing further wine education. Marshall is currently seeking eventual certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers, and Lusk is 'deep into the curriculum' established by the Wine and Spirits Education Trust. As far as the food is concerned, Oxheart alum Chris Wesley will lead the kitchen that will serve an all-day menu that ranges from eggs Benedict in the morning to pastas and pizzas on the dinner menu. Coterie’s hours are Monday through Wednesday 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Thursday and Friday 6:30 a.m. to 1 a.m; Saturday 7:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.; and Sunday 7:30 a.m. to 11 p.m." - Alaena Hostetter

Stopped into Coterie tonight and had a great dinner. The atmosphere was relaxing, and the staff was very attentive. We had the Chicken ceasar salad and honestly I have to say it's the best ceasar salad I've had in years The chicken was moist and tasty and the dressing was perfect. Hubby and I shared the brick oven Margherita pizza and it was excellent! The crust was buttery but perfectly crisp and the mozzarella and basil was fresh. The Wagyu steak and pierogis were so good! We had an excellent bottle of Oregon Pinot Noir recommended by our waitress, and a delightful after dinner drink. Wonderful experience!

Great place to grab coffee or some alcoholic drinks! Intimate atmosphere with elegant decor. Although small it has lots to offer, I was highly impressed with the customer service!

Brand new coffee shop in the theater district from the great people at Southside Espresso. Expect the same coffee and tea service but with the addition of a full kitchen AND cocktails. Service is without interruption all day so stop by anytime. It is located in a residential building that borders Market Square so street parking or the building's valet offer parking options. Wish I lived upstairs and could go anytime but until then the next time downtown we will be sure to go back and enjoy a meal cause food looked great!

The atmosphere is very relaxed. The service is slow but is in perfect sintony with the place. The coffee is great and the egg benny delicious. If you are looking for a place to go for a good breakfast, this is a great place. Plus the parking garage is free, just ask the barman.

If you haven't been to Coterie yet, you need to take yourself, your family, your friends, and your friends' family, to this spot right away! This new coffee/wine/cocktail/food and brunch spot is the new hot spot you have to see it to believe it. Coterie is in the corner of the Market Square Tower Apartments, the famous high rise apartment tower with the rooftop pool that extends over the edge of the building. Obviously, given it is in downtown, find parking at your discretion as I don't believe the Market Square Tower Apartments will valet vehicles coming to dine at Coterie. Once you are in, it is find your own spot and you order at the counter. There are various seating in the establishment but most of the time I have been sitting at the bar since I have only come here in the evenings. I won't be commenting on the food here as I have not tried any yet but I will say for a fact that their alcohol menu is certainly extensive and also very cool as they took old books like astronomy book and added their menu into the books. Speaking of alcohol, I tried a few of the cocktails here and all of them were very good. The one that pops out in my head is definitely Semplicita. That drink is very aromatic, delicious, and have an "orange cyclone" as garnish (an inside joke with the bartender that made this for me). In fact, if you do come here for brunch, instead of getting a mimosa, get yourself Semplicita for something different and tasty. I really like the fact that Coterie is very detail oriented with the decor in the establishment is chic and at the same time, homely. When my friend and I were that one night, it felt like we were in our very own private coffee bar as there was no one else there at one point. I will certainly make an effort of coming back here to try the food as it smelled very delicious when they were making a pizza for another customer. The service is outstanding and I know for sure you will like this place as much as me!

A wonderful little gem found on our New years day walk through deserted Houston city. The cafe is exquisitely decorated and the style is matched by a wonderful, fresh, locally sourced high quality food in generous portions. I wholeheartedly recommend to drop by during your visit to Houston, Texas. Coming from Vancouver, Canada - the capital of coffee drinkers and cafés I can vouch for the owner Mr. Sean that he is truly raising the bar quite high for all café owners in Texas and abroad.
