The 13 Best Restaurants, Bars, and Cafes in Sisters | Eater Portland

"Anyone who has visited CHOW in Bend will recognize much of Cottonwood Cafe’s menu. In 2018, chef David Touvell (the chef and owner of CHOW) took ownership of the cafe nestled in a charming old house with worn wooden floors and tables, bringing fresh and organic dishes to the menu. Diners at the Sisters location favor the Vinny, a classic eggs Benedict on a thick piece of house-baked white toast, a country French bread. While all the sides are excellent, the bacon cheddar grits is a must-try cafe specialty. There’s no going wrong with just about every breakfast menu item and the smash burger is an upscale version of the double Chowburger served on a brioche bun." - Barb Gonzalez

The restaurant is very cozy, especially on a day when it was too chilly to sit outside. Use the QR code to place yourself on the waitlist. It said the wait was 10 minutes, but it was actually 35 minutes. Great food made it worth the wait.

Google
Best chicken fried steak! The drinks are yummy too... We love this little hidden gem in Sisters! It's small and is only open until 2 pm but worth the wait! PS - Paige was our fantastic server 😊

Google
Biscuits!- excellent biscuits! Spendy at $5 each but they are delicious and huge! Not at all dry with a great, almost nutty, flavor. I'm very happy with these! I'll get them again.

Had a great meal here. Small place but the food is superb. Wasn't very busy when we went and the food came out quick. Definitely can tell this is made from scratch with care.i got biscuits and gravy and my wife got the Monte Cristo. Both were very filling and the country potatoes were awesome.

We were able to get a seat outside with our dog on a Friday morning. Great service. Great food. 10/10 must visit.

We were visiting the area of Redmond/Bend, and decided to drive up to Sisters for breakfast. We had a group of 6 and liked the menu offerings at the Cottonwood Cafe. When we arrived, we found the Cafe to be small and cozy. We put our name in, and were advised it be about 40 mins. So, we walked about town on a drizzley Sunday morning, in early May. We returned to the restaurant to check on our table. Unfortunately, a group of people decided they were going to stay out well beyond the completion of their meals, so we weren't seated for another 20 mins. A busy Sunday morning and some people decided to monopolize their table.... Anyway, once seated we received excellent service. We all ordered and didn't have to wait long for our selections to be served up. I had the corned beef hash. It was very good. We all enjoyed our food. Good flavors, excellent portion sizes. This restaurant isn't really set up for large groups. It is a cozy little place. Good food and good service. And, to their credit, they did comp a breakfast cocktail for us having to wait for our table.

Google
Cozy and homey atmosphere. My eggs Benedict (menu item called "Vinny") was delicious. My server was sweet and offered their hot sauces. The chili one was my favorite, it definitely elevated my food. Highly recommend trying their hot sauces. Overall good experience.

Google
Ordered the Blackstone based on the recommendation of the waitress. I was happy it included the cornmeal crusted tomatos (one of the sides, so I could try another) which were good! The sauce was tasty, the bacon was great and the eggs poached perfectly. For a side I ordered the sweet potatos, which were in fry form, seasoned well with a balsamic glaze. They were the best sweet potato fries I've ever had! There was also an "all welcome" sticker on the front door which was appreciated. Everyone in my party enjoyed their dishes, and we all ordered something different. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
What a hidden gem in Oregon! The food portions were generous and the prices were very reasonable. Everything we ordered was delicious and well worth it. The service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal, which made the experience even better. The decor had a charming and cozy! We sat next to a bookshelf filled with old recipe books, which added a unique and homey touch to the space. Overall, a great find. Would definitely come back next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
If you are in the mood for a homey vibe, cute dishes, and laid back cafe, this is your place. We got there at 8 when they opened and were seated right away. The waitress let us know she was the only one and the other waitress wasn't there yet. Seemed like just having one person really backed up the process since when we left people were waiting outside. I ordered the blackstone which came with a fried tomato, lemon spinach, thick cut bacon, poached egg and bearnaise sauce, plus the side salad for an extra $2. It was good but a few points about the dish. 1) the bearnaise sauce was good and creamy, kind of like hollandaise without the tang so the spinach helped that. 2) the tomato would have done better with more corn meal or a sturdier tomato like a green tomato to hold up under it. Mine was a bit mushy and not thick enough. 3) poached egg was overdone. Maybe I had to ask for it to be runny? But if the menu says poached egg so I expect runny. 4) the side Caesar salad listed with all entrees as an extra $2 they were out of Caesar dressing at opening. I didn't mind ranch but it came dressed so make sure to ask for it on the side if you don't want all the dressing. The service was slow but we were a party of 9 and ordered for three that weren't there yet. We were put behind a few smaller tables, and I only mention that because we were sat second and ended up having 3 tables ahead of us. The waitress who came late showed up 30+ minutes after they opened which didn't help. Our waitress was good and patient, plus still sweet after having to do everything without help. She was straight forward with us and those walking in about the wait which was helpful. The kids didn't seem to mind as we had activities for them. I can see how this might compound wait times later into the day. Street parking was plentiful at 8 and by mid day it was packed. If you eat here make sure to a lot some time to eat.

Yelp
I had the Corned Beef Hash at Cottonwood in Sisters and let me just say--it was absolutely fing delicious*. The 14-hour braised corned beef was insanely tender and flavorful, the house potatoes had the perfect crisp, and the poached eggs were cooked just right. The balsamic drizzle tied it all together beautifully without overpowering anything. It's a small, cozy spot with a bit of a wait--but totally worth it. The vibe is relaxed, the staff is friendly, and the food speaks for itself. If you're anywhere near Sisters, do not miss this place. One of the best brunch plates I've had in a long time.

Yelp
The "smash burger" was a regular burger so very disappointing. No crispy outside on the meat. No "special sauce" that I could detect, both of which are the hallmark of a good Smashburger. The "taters" came with onions and garlic which normally I love. The garlic was mostly uncooked so as a dish it was completely inedible unless you love raw garlic. It's so frustrating to spend $40 on lunch and walk away hungry.

Yelp
Never actually made it to sit down and eat. We've been multiple times and the food is wonderful. The staff were unwelcoming and indifferent. We waited for well over 30 minutes to be seated at a table (quoted 10). We were willing to wait it out but then we sat outside with no service. They never brought menus or acknowledged us afterwards even though tables around us were being waited on, one which was seated after us. We felt unwelcome and it was clear we were not going to be served. What a shame.

Yelp
Five stars for the food but one star for the service and dining experience. I am not going to leave a one star review because none of the issues were the fault of the staff that were present the day we ate there. The fault lays entirely on the owners and management for not scheduling appropriately. Upon arrival, it took 10 minutes before anyone even came to the front stand to take our names. There was already 2 other people waiting who had also been waiting for 5-10 min. Upon putting our name in, we were told that the weight would be 20 minutes. As I looked around the restaurant there were at least six tables open as well as two tables outside in which people were clearly finished eating and waiting for their checks. That should've been a warning that this was not gonna be a good service experience. Fast forward 40 minutes and we finally got called in after watching the people at the tables outside appear to have been abandoned. After we sat the poor waitress was clearly overwhelmed. Turns out they had no bus staff or host/hostess schedule that day. That left three people to bus, seat, wait on, and deliver food for all of the inside and outside tables. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and the food was very very good. It is a shame that the owners and management left them in such a terrible situation.

Yelp
Friendly service in a super cute setting. Good Bloody Mary's and nicely prepared food.

Yelp
5 stars for the Cornmeal Tomatoes!! We ordered Huevos Rancheros- not J's favorite version 2 eggs with the tomatoes, I substitute the meat for an extra egg. Eggs were cooked perfectly I would stop in again on my way to Koosah.

Yelp
Cute little cafe with great breakfast menu. Even though my order was just the basic breakfast, it was something to note of! The homemade toast was grainy and delicious. Service was so great. She promptly took our order and food came in a timely manner. This is a must stop for breakfast in Sisters.

Yelp
We recently had breakfast here at the Cottonwood. My husband loves homemade cornbeef, hash, and he was definitely not disappointed. The meat was ample and well done in the corn beef manner. I apologize that I am not so great at taking photos. But I can assure you it looked good, tasted good, and was reasonably priced. ($14) I had one of my favorites, Huevos rancheros. They had some pretty spicy sauces to put on the food, and I definitely enjoyed it. When I mentioned that my coffee tasted kind of stale, despite it being later in the day and close to closing time, she made a brand new pot for me.l. As always , it was pleasant - nice ambience, great service, and really good food.

Yelp
We loved this place! The food was very yummy and the service was incredible. The person who waited on us was so kind and lovely it really made this a sweet experience. I got the smash burger with sweet potato fries - the burger was great, the fries were incredible! My favorite sweet potato fries I've tried. My sis got a salad, can't remember what kind, but it had strawberries and was also great. This is a super cute spot to grab brunch or lunch, and I would love to come back to try the French toast and other brunch options!!

Yelp
I think this place could be a real treat if staffed appropriately. I arrived around 9:30am on Weds and it looked like the hostess was responsible for all jobs in the front of the house. I had my dog so wanted to wait for a patio table. There were two tables that needed to be cleaned and they sat empty for about 30 minutes while customers waited. When one finally opened up I had to speak up to claim it because the hostess neglected to take my name. Food was pretty good but the service definitely impacted the experience.
google avatar

Tim L.

Yelp
Great service. Nice little restaurant and the food was tasty. Only complaint was my iced tea tasted like coffee. And the waitress went and grabbed a different pot that tasted fine.

Kate B.

Yelp
I wouldn't come here if you're in a hurry. We waited patiently for over an hour to see our table given away.
google avatar

Linda B.

Yelp
Delicious! Worth the wait. Cozy little place with friendly staff. I liked that the portions weren't huge but definitely satisfying. Will return.

Cory P.

Yelp
Have been here several times and enjoyed it. Today was totally opposite of that. We were told 10 - 15 minutes for our group which would've been great. We also told them we were happy to split up as we had a party of 5. Over the course of about an hour we proceeded to watch 4 or 5 other groups that came in after us get seated. It was very strange. The hostess was entirely indifferent about our existence. Eventually we got sat and after 15 minutes without any water or anyone coming over we just left. Bummer, used to like this place. The service has always been so good, but will not return.

Scott K.

Yelp
The food was good. The cafe had a wonderful vibe and I enjoyed the other cozy feeling.

Yelp
Breakfast and lunch/brunch place with a cute vibe inside and outside. Choices for traditional fare like omelets and biscuit and gravy or more less than usual fare like French Toast with Banana Foster, which I had. The bread was excellent and apparently home made by our server's husband. Same with the biscuit! Probably one of the better biscuits we had. The gravy was tasty and plentiful. My Banana Foster topping was sweet but not overly so and with plenty of bananas. Beautifully done. I subtracted one star, there was a lipstick mark on my husbands coffee cup (which to me means, dishes were not properly washed)

Yelp
Food was absolutely fresh and amazing! Breads baked fresh daily. Our waitress was hilarious, honest, and went above and beyond! The location is a quaint spot off the main drag. There was a bit of a wait and no room to wait indoors so it was a cold wait, but worth it. Loved the GF options/substitutions and craft cocktail options.
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
Cute little cottage ambiance. Food is insanely good. I had the chicken and waffles Benedict. Was just so much yum!
google avatar

Mountain Mama I.

Yelp
The food is excellent. As is the service. The only negative is they seem to be out of items on their menu. Has happened a few times now. And not during "busy" season. So have a few options ready.
google avatar

Sylvia T.

Yelp
Delicious, fresh local food!! We came for an amazing lunch and had to come back for breakfast the next day. You won't be disappointed here! Nice patio, amazing live music. Charming ambiance
google avatar

Carol T.

Yelp
Nice small cafe, art works on the walls. This is a converted bungalow into a cafe. Lots of choices for breakfast. I'm GF, no problem menu is very clear if GF or vegetarian is available. I had grits - creamy with cheese and bacon on top. My husband had chicken fried steak beautiful and flavorful! Our server knew the menu and was very pleasant. We'll be back.
google avatar

Roxanne L.

Yelp
Love the back and front pet friendly patios...well shaded. Food is great (especially their great fresh fruit)! Wait staff are friendly and efficient. We love their breakfasts, but have had their lunches as well...same consistent good quality!
google avatar

Linda S.

Yelp
We just had a wonderful breakfast here. I had the basic breakfast, and everything was so good. Don't miss the homemade salsa. My husband had the eggs Benedict and loved it. Would highly recommend!
google avatar

Pat L.

Yelp
Always a great breakfast, and serving on the dog friendly back patio on weekends! Our favorite weekend spot!
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
The food was phenomenal and lots of great options for adults and children. Great service woth a very attentive server and speedy to recognize when we were done. Got us the check and we headed to the mountains. We will definitely stop through again. Thank you!
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
Cute house converted into restaurant. Nice service, reasonable prices. And lots of vegetarian/ vegan options. We got vegetarian biscuit and gravy - awesome dense crispy buttermilk biscuits topped with veggie sausage gravy. Excellent if you are fan of biscuit and crazy. We also got spinach and tofu which was also excellent. Pan fried tofu with lightly cooked spinach on top. All with some sort of subtle lemon sauce poured over it. I really enjoyed the tofu spinach. Next time in town - 100% chance I will revisit this place.

Yelp
While on our way back home from Bend, my wife and our friends stopped in for some breakfast today. The ambiance was nice, it was a cute little place for sure. The service wasn't bad, the only issues I had were with the food. My wife ordered the parfait, which was supposed to come with granola, the server didn't say anything about it. When my wife asked about it all she was told was "oh we're all out"...don't you think you should let someone know this after they order it and not when it comes to the table. I ordered the corned beef hash which was delicious, I ordered a side of Cheddar BACON grits, only to have it served to me on a small plate with a small dry piece of bacon on top of the grits...like dang...you're supposed to serve grits in a bowl so they stay warm...I can't say I would eat here again if in the area...

Lynn F.

Yelp
The food and service were amazing! We had corn beef hash and pancakes and bacon. The hash was delicious and the presentation was beautiful. The pancakes were great and the bacon was thick and extremely lean. Coffee is very good too. Very friendly and great service. We plan to return and eventually try everything on the menu. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Gary Q.

Yelp
Gaia had the Corned Beef Hash, and I had the Shrimp and Grits. Both were excellent, and well presented. The atmosphere is rustic, casual, and small-town friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The last time we visited Sisters was in 2018, and we stopped here then, so this was a return visit.
google avatar

Yelp
Delightful. Cozy. Delicious. Laura was our server and she was such a doll and so great at her job. I got the vegetarian biscuits and gravy which you NEVER see anywhere and they were so yummy!!! Gf DF husband found it very easy to order here.

Jacob W.

Yelp
I have made corned beef hash from scratch but have never tasted CBH anywhere near this good. Condiments were available but any additional flavor would have spoiled the effect. They were shorthanded; the owner---or the individual who said "I run the house"---did all the waiting and busing. The milieu, the architecture, the decor, could not be improved. The owner or manager was eager to accommodate a customer's hunger and picky taste. Also she was happy to answer questions about the food, its provenance, etc.
google avatar

Barbara N.

Yelp
What a scrumptious breakfast of Shrimp and Grits! Service could have been better but it was the end of their Sunday. Ambience was charming, I'd go back next time I'm in town
google avatar

Cassie P.

Yelp
We went here on Father's Day, which was understandably busy. We were told the wait would be 30 minutes for a table when in actuality it was an hour. The staff were friendly and the environment was cozy and clean. We waited another hour just to get our food which the waitress was apologetic and said she would comp our drinks but still ended up charging us. After all the waiting the food turned out to be just okay. My husband had the biscuits and gravy and he shared the biscuits were dry and hard and the gravy was cold. I had the scramble which was good but the serving size seemed a bit small. Not worth the two hour wait for okay food that cost $100
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Ok...the place is a small restaurant in a tourist town, but damn, what a pleasant surprise! My wife's dish was excellent, with the tomatoes, it was just right! My chicken fried steak was perfectly cooked, seasoned and topped with gravy, mushrooms and blue cheese! Wow! So good! I had a Bloody Mary, spicy as I like a kick. You will not be disappointed! The vodka was infused and the in house pickled veggies were delicious!! They should sell those!! Can't wait to come back!

K B.

Yelp
If you want to wait over an hour for your mediocre food, pay $4 dollars extra for a 16th of an avocado, and have an extra bonus of food poisoning (biscuits and gravy) this is your place. I'm appalled at everything about this place except for the lovely wait staff who tried to move the process along (there are other restaurants that would love to have you). Stay away!

Stacy D.

Yelp
Terrible. Waited nearly 2 HOURS to be seated and served. We were sat outside at a dirty table. I understand places can be busy at times but this was beyond ridiculous. I ordered a 18$ smash burger and fresh fruit. The girl taking my order assumed I wanted to replace my burger side with fruit (which was an additional $4.50) and didn't even ask to make sure. With the long wait I didn't even want to send it back to be corrected. The people I came with also had bad experiences, like finding meat in her food after saying more then once she cant have meat, and the food being pretty dry. Never going back.

Erica V.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place; cute space. Service was poor. We waited 10 minutes before anyone came by to take an order. Waited a long time for food, waited a long time for our check. My French toast came out room temp and then with cold butter and cold syrup...lack luster.
google avatar

Clinton O.

Yelp
Food was excellent - we had the biscuits and gravy. On top of that, our server was outstanding. Very friendly and welcoming. It felt like we were her personal guests in her kitchen.

Kevin N.

Yelp
Upsetting that the mismanagement of the business couldn't properly accommodate our group. My group (8) showed up at 9:30 with a 15min wait time. We received no further updates, checked in with the host about 45min later, and then were told it would be another 15min. Great to have an hour of my weekend wasted in such a rude manner.
google avatar

Chat P.

Yelp
I've eaten a lot of chicken fried steaks in my life. This is top 3! It also comes with different kind of hot sauces which was fun to try with it.
google avatar

ToniAnn M.

Yelp
A really cute place to relax & have brunch. Great food, pleasant staff, & a solid drink menu. The menu isn't expansive, but what they do, they do it right. Everything is made in house - even the breads.
google avatar

Shelly G.

Yelp
We were excited to have a nice brunch, but it was a disaster. The hostess said it would be a 10-15 minute wait, but it was 45 - I think they forgot about us. It took another 10-15 minutes for the waiter to come around & take our order once we were seated. He was salty & obviously not feeling like working today -said he hoped no one else got sat in that section. Our drinks came out fast, but our food never came. 40-45 minutes after taking our order, he came to tell us the chicken sandwich was out, but we didn't even order chicken sandwiches, we ordered omelettes. Our food order never got put in. We decided to leave.

Alysa H.

Yelp
Very small and loud inside, food was not great and very expensive. Service was decent for how busy it was but I wouldn't go back.

Yelp
This was my first time to enjoy The Cottonwood Cafe and it will not be my last. The cafe is located in a house and run by a husband and wife team. Parking was easy; we parked on the street in front of the cafe. It took a minute or two for our waitress to come from the back of the restaurant and seat us at a nice table for two at a front window. This visit was in the middle of October and only one other table was occupied. We were told that our timing was good because the morning rush had just ended and the lunch rush would be starting soon. I asked about business during the Sisters Folk Festival and was told that it had been a zoo with hour wait times. We promised to stay away during the 2024 Festival. I ordered the Locavore (omelette) with pepper jack cheese instead of the blue cheese and breakfast potatoes. My wife ordered Shrimp and Grits. The omelette came with three sauces. The breakfast potatoes were excellent and would have been spoiled by ketchup. I tried all three sauces on the omelette. The red sauce was flavorful and mild. The pepper sauce was hot, too spicy to really enjoy. The verde sauce was the best. I tried my wife's shrimp and grits. It was better and more flavorful than the shrimp and grits that I had enjoyed in North Carolina. I cannot wait to return to The Cottonwood Cafe.

Yelp
Me and my wife stopped here while at a basketball tournament. We had breakfast and drinks. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and they were delicious. Sausage gravy (but also option for veggie gravy), wasn't too thick, biscuits were not too dense and seemed just right. My wife ordered the pork carnitas breakfast tostada and they were equally as delicious. Huge serving for the tostadas. We both also had a Hot Toddy which was perfect for the cold snowy day.

Robert J.

Yelp
Scot N's review of six days ago was true for us today. The restaurant is totally understaffed and our server was overwhelmed. Food was good but very late, no coffee refills and the server admitted she was overwhelmed by the number of customers she had. I talked with the manager and her response was 'I have more tables than she does'. That's ridiculous as an explanation. I told her the situation bordered on server abuse and that is the fault of management and ownership. Either get more staff or manage the number of customers per server. The fact you have no bussers is not the server's problem.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall: Cottonwood meets its high breakfast/brunch expectations. The good: Unique and delicious menu items. I got a benedict with tomato slice base, topped with tasty bacon, eggs, and hollandaise. The home fries here are incredible, crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside, with a hint of cajun spice to them. The portion sizes will leave most full, and some with leftovers - they don't skimp and you won't leave hungry. The service was friendly, the atmosphere is cozy, and they play good music The not-so-good: The food took a pretty long time to come out, especially for two people. It gets crowded very easily and there's not a ton of seating. And, it's pretty pricey for a casual breakfast/brunch. Food: 9/10 Atmosphere: 8/10 Service: 8/10
