Where To Do Fall Stuff Within 90 Minutes Of Chicago

"Hobart, IN - 50 minutes from The Loop County Line is in Hobart Indiana, but it’s only an hour away (even less when traffic isn’t bad, which is never). Along with apple and pumpkin picking, this orchard also has Bee Yurts—and for $2 you can tour the hives that pollinate the apple trees, and thank them for their service. You can also listen to live music while sitting on hay bales, ride a tractor out to the orchard, and get fresh-baked bread and cider donuts." - adrian kane

Very lovely place, lovely store, very friendly staff. They didn't have any apples to pick but offerred really nice apples in bins to pick from. The donuts were delicious, caramel apples were too good, and the apples I picked from the bin were perfect. Lots of cute nick nacks, lots of photo opportunities. I didn't like the corn maze because I am lazy, LMAO, you country folk created these to make us lazy people work out. hahahaha it was too much fun though!!! The farm animal area is very cute. They had a lot of good food options! Really good music. I would definitely come back.

Google
It was truly an amazing experience, it was one for the books, it felt really good to be around nature and away from all the noise in the city. It was great to actually learn and see the different types of apples. If you are looking for an affordable farm experience, this is it. Also it’s fall/Halloween, they has great pumpkins. I had fun, it wrote the moo-chop train as well. I definitely recommend

County Line Orchard are back open for the season! I haven’t been here in years, so it was exciting to check everything out today and to pick up some donuts. We didn’t feel like picking apples ourselves, but still had an absolute blast riding the tractor pulled wagon and looking around the shop. Definitely a fun way to spend a day.

It was a great place to spend during the pumpkin season. They have places for shopping, and I love their donuts. Don't forget to get some before you leave!

Had my first opportunity to go to an apple picking orchard with friends in Hobart, Indiana “County Line Orchard”. We rode the hayride around the resort to choose where we wanted to pick our apples, truly fun They had every type of apple you could imagine not to mention pumpkins, a small children’s zoo, play area and entertainment. I never knew there was so many different types of apples, purchased golden delicious, wish I had gotten more. Let’s not forget the general store where you could purchase fresh apple cider, homemade baked pies, brownies and many other delicious items. So before fall is over make sure your family makes the trip to “County Line Orchard” truly worth it.

I love this place! If you want to apple pick, go August - September! If you want to shop, so much to buy! My favorite the pumpkin donuts! I get the apple for my family. Try the donut and ice cream, you won't be disappointed!

The kids have a good time here. But it's become a little pricey in the barn and the children's area with the animals could use a little work. The straw bale maze this year needs another layer of bales to make it an actual maze. The bales they used looked like they reused them from last year. Then they don't let the kids climb on the bales... ??? They were literally only 7 to 8 inches high on average. I have included a picture of the compost maze that my 2 year old got yelled at for climbing on. I don't blame him for climbing on it as there wasn't much of a height difference between the old bales and the ground. I guess the kids play area disappointed me the most- straw bales are not that expensive to replace and the whole kid area needs improvement if they're going to charge $ for it. The apple picking and tractor ride is nice and the tractor drivers were very friendly and helpful. $10 for a small bag of apples- but they are good and I've never seen the variety we picked in a store. It's okay. Not as great as it used to be but not awful 👍

I’ve been here for 4 years in a row. The first year I came it was great. They had so many apples to pick. This time, no apples on the trees at all. There was a lady at the cashier when we were buying the entrance tickets and heard we needed 12 tickets so she said “oh wow” and chuckled. Didn’t say anything else until after we paid the fee. After the cashier gave us our receipt and wristbands, the woman said “just so you know, there are no more apples on the trees to pick…”. Why didn’t she tell us that beforehand? Pretty much everything was done. No sunflowers, no many pumpkins, no apples. We still like shopping in their store. The apple pie and donuts are great! I did try some fudge this time and it was good too. I bought a few ciders but have t tried them. I’ve gotten some before and it was good. I planned on visiting again this year but might need to go elsewhere to get the full apple picking experience.

Yelp
It was interesting shopping in their large building, lots of treats and savory foods to take home. Huge selection of items. Checking out in lines was fast! They have their service down pat. The value was pretty decent going picking. However the picking took a lot of looking. Lots of apples on the ground with one or two bites taken out of it. Rotten apples on trees. It was my first time out so I learned now it's not just a fast pick

Yelp
Our annual apple picking location! About an hour outside of Chicago, it's great for apple picking, pumpkins, hay rides, a corn maze, and more! On weekends, enjoy pony rides (this was my first time on a Friday and they weren't offered, though the weather was great). Purchase Apple Cards that can be used for rides and animal food to feed the goats, cows, and sheep. They've added a children's obstacle course in 2024 that's very cute. The gift shop has fudge, donuts, apple clear, flavored hot chocolate, seasonal trinkets, and assorted wines. There are usually food trucks onsite (this may be on weekends only). I love the $8 wine flight to try different selections before you buy bottles for home. Make a family trip out of it and rent park areas, great for gathering and grilling with friends! There's ample parking on site

Yelp
They are marketing what they don't have. Came here to pick apples and all they had was Golden Delicious. And if you want what they picked, you are charged more. So you go to pick apples and you end up buying for a higher price what they picked already. They had lotz of honeycrisp apples and a few pallets of only 2-3 other kinds of apples. We picked a jubilee Fuji and ludacrious apples. There supposed to be some apples available late September or early or mid October. But none of the early or mid October apples were available. Bad marketing.

Yelp
This place is a real zoo on the weekends. It is wild, a football field filled with cars and cops everywhere. I tried both kinds of donuts, cider, and 3 kinds of pie. The donuts with the red glaze on them were really good, very moist. The cinnamon sugar donuts were a bit on the dry side but the flavor was ok. The cider was too sweet for me. I like tart cider. The pies were like the mass-produced pies you would find at Wal-Mart or something, with apple being the best of them.

Yelp
NO APPLES, NO REFUNDS... My whole family comes here every year and was really looking forward to it, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. First, there were barely any apples to pick, and the ones left on the trees were either rotten or infested with bugs. People were literally picking apples off the ground, which were also in terrible condition. To make matters worse, when I asked for a refund on the $30 bag I had purchased, I was flat-out refused. I can't believe they were charging so much for a bag of apples when there weren't any decent ones to pick! Save your money and find a better orchard to visit. This one is rotten. Seriously don't go, you don't know if there are apples till you go out there and you have to buy a bag to go. No refunds, it's a racket.

Yelp
We recently went to County Line Orchard to kick off its grand opening for the season. While I'm glad we went early for a stronger pick at apples, it's definitely become more expensive to come here - they don't have children's prices for the activities, the cost of apples has increased, and the animal farm wasn't a petting zoo (which seemed like a change from prior years). What's more, you have to really pay attention to charges because the staff tried charging me for my 1 year old (despite kids under 2 being free). While the apples were good, the rest of the experience was lackluster.

Yelp
The barn is open at 8 am but the attractions aren't open until 9 AM. Our family of four visited on a Saturday and arrived shortly after 9 AM. The main parking lot was already filling up so I think it's most ideal to arrive early. We purchased the little farmer pass for $7 per person which includes the tractor rides and kids' farm. We did not have to wait in line for the first tractor ride but there was a line around 11 AM. Our girls spent a good amount of time on the tractor ride, at the pumpkin patch, and kids' farm. The kids' farm had roosters, mini donkeys, cows, and goats in addition to a huge John Deere truck for pictures, face painting for $2, family portraits for $5, basketball hoops, and mini maze. For lunch, we checked out the food stands which had barbecue, tacos, and pizza. We ordered the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches with a side of pickles and potato salad. The barbecue sauce is on the side. Our girls ate the sandwiches without issue. We also ordered a chicken noodle soup from the Kitchen which is nothing special. In fact, I think there was only one piece of chicken, a few slivers of carrots, and mostly noodles... From the Barn, we purchased two pumpkins which were only $1 each, half a dozen donuts, and a slice of pumpkin pie. I wanted to have both donut flavors, pumpkin and apple cinnamon, so I was really happy to see that the half dozen and full dozen boxes come in two flavors. For those who don't want to over-indulge, a single donut can be purchased for $2 and a slice of pie for $3. My firstborn was adamant about trying the pumpkin pie so we bought her a slice. She had a few bites and did not want the rest. So I gladly finished it for her. Imagine if we had to buy a whole pie just because she really wanted to try it... Overall, I thought the farm was well managed, orderly, and clean. My main complain is the toilet paper in the Barn is awfully thin. It's really difficult to retrieve it without them breaking into tiny bits so one would end up wasting more than actually putting them to practical use. The two times that I had to take my girls to the bathroom, I noticed a pile of toilet paper bits on the bathroom floor. Kind of wasteful and counterproductive in a sense...

Yelp
We've come here a few times over the past ten years. Typically a nice family outing with good apple picking. Unfortunately went today and were upsold by the sales people that there were lots of varieties so bought 1/2 peck instead of 1/4 peck. Spent $50 extra. We took 2 different tractors to fields and only found gala, fuji and jonagold. When we went to talk with them bc we had 3 1/2 empty bags they said no refunds. Definitely disappointed

Yelp
Went today and had a lovely visit! I went on a weekday to avoid crowds. The grounds are beautiful. I walked around the orchards and wandered the corn maze. They have a great selection of caramel apples, pies, donuts and cider. Some reviews are complaining about lack of apples on the trees. Apple season starts late August/early September. By this time of the year they are pretty much done. There weren't apples on the trees today, nor did I expect them, given that it's almost November. They might want to put a statement about this on their website to avoid issues/complaints though.

Yelp
Not open today though it says it is. Drove from Naperville, il. In-laws from Ft Wayne. Bummer.
google avatar

Rong Z.

Yelp
Zero. They had no apples anywhere in the orchard but still sent people out only to walk around and be disappointed. Ridiculous.
google avatar

Stacy G.

Yelp
Do not come!!!!! Drove 2hrs for apple picking experience and of the 10 apple varieties they advertise on their website only one was available to pick this year (golden delicious) and there were NONE left on those few trees. They still charge you up front. When I realized there was nothing for my daughter and I to do they made us go all the way back to the entrance wait in line again to upgrade to let's and still charged us full price. Complete waste of a valuable fall day :/

Yelp
I've been coming here ever since I was a child and think this is one of the best orchards for the price around Chicago. It's a pretty standard orchard with a barn, apple trees, a pumpkin patch, corn maze, petting zoo, and kids games. There is a tractor to take you around the property but the whole place is totally walkable. It's large enough that it can be busy but doesn't feel stuffy. We were able to get enough apples to make a pie, a large pumpkin, two bottles of apple cider, and a half dozen donuts for less than $30. I would highly recommend the pumpkin donuts. I look forward to coming here every fall!

Yelp
When it comes to their apple picking season, I cannot say I am impressed this year. The price for an all inclusive wristband sits at $14.50, which includes u-pick, kids farm, moo train, and maze. The kids farm is nothing exciting. You can't feed or touch the animals and its just boring to look at. The mazes were mediocre. I honestly wouldn't spend the money to do it all. (I mean I already did, but to anyone else planning to attend). Their staff is nice but they also look bored. Not much interaction or fun that would make you want to go again. The store is full of goodies, which I typically love! However, I miss the days when you were watching them crank things out right in front of you. Fresh hot donuts! Now everything is pre-packaged and the staff is staring at the customers through the windows. For me. county line isn't the same. Maybe next time I will just go to the store and skip everything else. It wasn't worth the money spent.

Yelp
A fantastic apple picking outing! I've been to County Line Orchard before, their staff is great, welcoming and helpful. A well run operation. The u-pick is by the lb, but admission is required for everyone - we received wrist bands. Be prepared to spend money to have a good time. Nothing was overly too pricey. We arrived the last weekend of Sept, and just after opening (was still able to get a spot on the first row of parking lot). Laster arrivals like after 10am will park across the road on the open field. All-access pass which was $14 per person, and includes admission, the children farm area and the maze and the "moo-choo" ride. We did all of these things and we did enjoy the experiences. If we only did the u-pick, I think we still would have enjoyed ourselves. They provide heavy duty plastic bags at checkin. First stop off the orchard trailer was the honey crisp and pumpkin patch. The apples were plump and sweet! Much different than what I'm able to get at the grocery store. Spent an hr in the orchard picking. You don't need an apple pole, since the "trees" were child friendly. Pumpkin patch, took some photos. A few good poke your head thru a cute wooden scene kind of things setup, and some nice looking back-drops. Then back onto the next trailer for the mazes. There were two mazes, soy (3ft) and the maise (corny pun included by me) maze 10-11ft. This weekend Albanese gummy candy for the maze participants. It's nice that they're so high, since the sun was not beating down on us while we were aimless and lost. Don't bother trying to pick the corn, it's animal feed corn. Do yourself a favor, even if you enjoy a challenge, pull up the map on your QR reader as you enter in like the staff recommends. We spent about 30-45 mins in the maze. There are landmarks inside the maze to orient yourself, but you need the map. Back onto the trailer and back to the main barn/store for a restroom break. There were port-o-potties in the field, but I can't do that. The restrooms were renovated and clean. The feature was the free off the line donuts. They were churning them this morning and I opted for a dozen vs a half, bc they were still warm and the staff was still filling out shelves (I really had to justify that somehow bc when I was on the trailer, I told myself we'll only get the half dozen...but that was before I found out they have pumpkin glazed AND cinn-sugar). I'm sure they produced most of the inventory that morning, buts it's nice to see the box still steamed up. My kids watched the staff in the kitchen window setup for kids (platform). Apparently frozen apple cider slush is a popular item served in the coffee window said many whole we were watching thr donut operation. All the registers were in the far tent, and there was seating up in the upper loft area. Not many seated but there was a live guitar performance starting at 10am sharp. Great entertainment while we enjoyed cinnamon sugar and pumpkin glazed donuts. If that was all we did we would have been happy. But we also paid for the kids farm(located just before the trailer pickup point), where you could generally let loose a little and let the littles explore the animals they have there (roosters, chickens, goats, calves). The animals were definitely active. I don't believe you're suppose to feed the animals or touch them...but kids still tried. If you were thinking about skipping the big corn and soy mazes for the the Lil maze (it's just hay bakes, so like 2ft high - also known as not really a maze). There was a Peter pumpkin eating robotic robot show as well in the maze and tucked away in a corner a little baby chick hatching shed. Onto the MooChoo...so it's not like a train on a track. It was a bunch of barrels cut out on wheels being pulled by...a tractor. My kids loved it we went twice, each barrel was designated a cow type name like Betsy etc. And they had some wooden cutouts of animals along the track. Each kid under 3 (no wrist bands) need to be in a barrel with an adult (umm...if you are an adult that is taller than avg you are going to be crammed in and your kid sitting on your chest). This is where I wish the staff would have been more strict on safety...there was a smart-alec kid behind me that thought it was a good idea to just stand in his barrel the entire back-half of the ride. There were seatbelts though, but if adult with kid in cart, it won't fit around y'all both. Food options galore, they had a few food stall stands outside- the BBQ was popular along with a brick oven pizza truck and a live band. Burgers and fries in the food building it seems (we didn't eat there, had to get going). Great day to spend autumn day. It's definitely busy on the weekends but that's where the action is. Arrive early and take your photos before the major crowds, leave around lunch time to avoid the high sun.

Yelp
Disappointing visit. Raised prices overall. Selling the apple bags & then having very few edible apples was unacceptable. They opened another field but the apples were mixed varieties and many were rotted or past their prime. I usually go & buy many apples of different types for baking & eating. From now on I'll just go to the local farmers market.

Yelp
We returned here for a delightful outing with our youngest grand-darling.  It was delightful in part because though it was on a Columbus Day holiday, it wasn't the weekend.  They are set up, staffed, and organized like a Disney World here and for big Disney World type crowds and it must be really curraazzy here on the weekends. Anyway, on a gorgeous fall day, we had a light lunch in their Kitchen barn house, rode on their tractor to the apple and maze fields, ran through the kids' soy maze, hand-picked some Shizuka and Melrose apples, and bought some donuts and a pumpkin pie.  T'was a very fun day, and the grand-darling (and us) had a blast.   I never heard of a Shizuka apple.  I don't know how long it's been around, but it's Japanese and big, green, sweet, crisp, and very delicious.  I proclaim it my favorite apple though I honestly haven't done a lot of serious comparing. I think I like it over Fuji, Gala, Honey Crisp, and Melrose apples anyway.  The Melrose apple was ok, but being slightly more tangy, was a distant second today.  Besides 8.5 lbs of mostly Shizuka apples (at $1.99/lb), we also picked up a dozen donuts (cinnamon and pumpkin) for $12 and a pumpkin pie for $13.  The donuts are light, airy, flavorful, and very fresh and quite a good deal at that price, as are the pies.  We didn't even take the time to check out the kids' farm or rides, but for a once-in-a-while fall outing, it was plenty of fun for us as it was.

Yelp
Only Apple it's hard I've visited that doesn't let you pick apples. Nothing in the website about not being able to pick apples. Save the trip from Chicago and go West instead

Yelp
A family-friendly apple orchard with a huge store inside and lots of food options. Also has sunflower crops!

Yelp
One of the beat place to do some outdoor activities in indiana. We,ve been to this place several times. They have lots of apple varieties for apple picking. They also have huge barn store that sell local food and delicacies that are made from apple like, apple pie, apple scented candles, apple spreads, lots of deserts made with apple and bakery stuffs too. They also have live bands with restaurants selling grilled ribs. Bery nice place. I also knew this time they are open 7 days a week during season time.

Yelp
Fall means Apple orchards and I was keen to get out to one while I was in the area. Brought my 2yo toddler nephew with us for a fun weekend activity. We chose the all-access pass as we planned to spend a couple of hours. We got a ride on a tractor pull that had stops at a corn maze, pumpkin patch, sunflower field and apple orchard. We went to the orchard which had all sorts of apple varieties, some I've never heard of! You can pick as many as you want--simply take them with you to the barn entrance and pay for them (cost is per pound). Afterwards we went by the kids barn so my nephew could see some animals (chickens, goats, ducks, etc) This is not a petting zoo, just a place for observation but no handling of the animals. Inside the barn they had apple cider, donuts (both apple and pumpkin, latter is the best and super-moist), popcorn, candied applies and all sorts of treats. I got over a dozen of each donut and it didn't feel like enough! They also have a few food trucks lining the entrance for those who want something more substantial while visiting the orchard. Overall, great experience and well-organized. It's a seasonal-favorite for good reason!

Yelp
We come every year to pick apples with family and go through the animal farm. You have to come within the first few weeks of the season to pick fresh gala apples yourself and we finally made it this year! Their apple cider donuts are amazing. They also have some food stands and live music in the picnic area.

Yelp
If you're looking for an inexpensive day at the orchard, County Line might just hit the spot. To ride the tractor and pick apples is just $2/person plus the cost of whatever apples you select. I'm only leaving off one star because there were pretty slim pickings when we went on September 4. The apple trees themselves are pretty small and most of them have been picked over. Just assume that there's no point looking for apples wherever the tractor drops you off. If you backtrack a bit, you're more likely to find spots that haven't been picked over. There is a huge, lovely barn where you can pick up your donuts and jams and popcorn seasonings and cider. When we went, we exited the barn to go into a large tent to check out. It's a little chaotic in there - no clear queue for who goes to what register. But the place was staffed appropriately. LOTS of windows to buy your tickets, LOTS of cashiers. When you leave the cashier tent, there's a parking lot with lots of picnic tables and some awesome food trucks. If it's a hot day, keep walking past all the food trucks and the stationary County Line Grill and you'll find a nice shaded picnic area where musicians play. There's also a kids' petting zoo of some sort and a little train ride if you'd like to pay extra. I went with my 3-year-old twins and they were very happy to ride the tractor, pick some apples, and eat some ice cream from a food truck afterward. No additional fees necessary. Also, major props for their parking organization. Lots of staff telling you where to go and keeping things lined up. I've been to orchards with a more robust apple selection, but this was one of the best in terms of staffing, crowd control, spacing, and variety of attractions. COVID-19 Note: My boys and I were the only ones wearing masks on the entire property. This, despite the fact that Indiana is currently averaging 4,256 cases and 28 deaths each day over the past week. Godspeed, fellow apple pickers!

Yelp
The county line orchard has always been a favorite of mine since I was a kid! This year I was able to take people not from the area and they loved it! Everyone who works there is always so friendly and helpful, there's also always so many options of things to buy! Popcorn, fudge, preserves, apples of course, dressings, the famous donuts and so so much more! It's also always so amazing to see things still standing from my childhood like the petting zoo and the little cow train. I love the county line orchard and it's no surprise it's always so busy! Better get there before the season ends
google avatar

Tabitha W.

Yelp
I understand that there is only a narrow window for peak orchard popularity, but man, I was not prepared for the crowds! Based on how crowded it was when we came in early October, we decided to just pick up some of the donuts we had heard rave reviews about. The inside was PACKED. We shuffled along with the crowd and finally found the shelves of baked goods. We got a 1/2 dozen donuts (Pumpkin and Apple Cider) for $6.00. We also decided to pick up a pie for $12.00. In all fairness, I think the business is doing about all they can to put out quality products and respond to customer demand. The inside warehouse feeds out to an outdoor tented area with multiple registers for payment. Try to avoid going during peak times - like weekends with beautiful weather. Hopefully, next season is better all around when they reopen, but if there are still health and safety concerns, the indoor environment was a little out of control.

Yelp
Located just about an hour outside of the city of Chicago that's easy to get to farm/orchard was a perfect activity for a Friday morning. It was for two adults Who wanted to go apple picking we were able to park in the handicap area which was closer to the barn and kitchen however you'll need to walk across a large parking lot to get to the tent to pay for admission and/or take the tractor ride which could be arduous for some. I did not see a drop off area for mobility impaired guests. I'm not sure if we could've drove our car further down the parking lot and dropped off one of our persons We paid the two dollar entry fee and took too bad. It was probably around 11 AM when we got in line for the tractor. It took some time to actually get a tractor to come and pick the group up that was waiting in line which was a little long Dash probably 20 minutes or so. There were a few schools with field trips and another adult group also on a field trip. You take the tractor and go to the corn maze first then the pumpkin patch and then finally the orchards. We spent probably 20 minutes picking some apples. We did not want to pick a lot because we did not wanna have to carry them plus we did not want to miss the next tractor and we did not want to pay a large fee. I know this sounds crazy because we're trying to support a local farm but we didn't want to take extra apples off the tree that we weren't going to use. When we are done we grab the tractor back to the barn walked inside past the bags of apples, cinnamon donuts, cider, pie etc. we opted to get some fresh cups of cider along with some smaller bottles of cider and an individual donut. I'm glad we tried the donuts because they were very dry and did not have a pleasant taste. We love cider donuts and this was just not it. We ended up purchasing some caramel apples as well. Be prepared for some lines and maybe some traffic. You might want to bring some water out to the orchards. They do have Porta potty's. We did not see any actual bathrooms so I'm not sure if they have those. There's lots of activities for kids. If you're an adult or young adult this is a fun activity for a date night or just to get out of the city etc. Lots of things for kids to do. They definitely have quite a operation. It's no different than going to any other amusement park we're after the activity you're kind of queued through the retail section.

Yelp
We went in a rainy day with a lot of field trips so it was a bit chaotic however their tour Apple/pumpkin tour is very cool and the marketplace is huge! Highly recommend bringing family to see the pollination process.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed the orchard and will be back next fall. Couldn't pass up the fudge even though I was on a 30 day elimination diet. Froze the fudge and it was absolutely delicious when I thawed it a couple of weeks later. I promise to NOT be on a diet so I can try the donuts and different ciders my family raved about when I go back next year.

Yelp
I love the County Line Orchard! For ONE DOLLAR - you can take a tractor ride through the orchard, stop and get on/off at various locations to walk through the orchard, pick apples, experience the peaceful surroundings, visit the bee yurts, check out the small animals and learn something about each one, listen to entertainment, browse the shop, and take tons of photos. However, this past weekend - Saturday, September 5th was a little unorganized and super crowded. We were there at OPENING (9:00 am) and the parking was already across the street. The County Line Road is closed to normal traffic and open just for the Orchard. Police were helping to direct traffic and watch out for pedestrians crossing the street. After parking, you walk towards the FRONT ENTRANCE which was relocated due to the current environment and definitely ZERO physical distancing. In fact, no Employee was out watching this or helping to organize people. It wasn't very safe in my opinion. (Why would we come you might ask? Because it is advertised to be safe and organized.) Taking the tractor was also tough since you wait and again no one understands what physical distancing means. In fact, on the tractor, there are red benches that you are NOT to sit on to help with the distancing, but again people disobey the rules and the Employees do NOT enforce either. Upon getting off the tractor into the Orchard, you are on your own, but can definitely spread out without being on top of other people. So much better. We ended up going back to the little farm to see the animals (bee yurts were closed) and there are definitely people with NO MASK on - even though the "requirement" was to have a mask on the entire visit. And - you guessed it - no Employees enforcing this rule either. Inside the barn shoppe it is pretty crowded but you must walk in one direction only - so it is one-way - however, people again do NOT respect the physical distancing rule and NO Employee enforces this. Maybe it was a mistake to go; but how else could I help write up a review for anyone thinking of visiting in the coming weekends. If you must go - do so super early - have a plan - get what you need - then get out. I would wait for next year to experience more - maybe the maze is better since you can distance and get lost out there. But we avoided the maze. Good luck!

Yelp
Went today to pick apples and get out of the house . Masks are required yet social Distancing is not enforced . There are signs on the fences and on the ground to keep 6ft apart but know one adhered to that . Being from Chicago we are used to the stricter rules and maintained a safe distance between us and others . Got our favorite pumpkin and apple donuts , apple cider and picked 16 lbs of apples to bring home !

Yelp
The way that everyone has been gushing about this experience I honestly felt that I was really missing out on something. I think if I went during any other time in American history, the experience would have been "mehhh" to "well at least I did it" instead of "why did I come to Indiana when I could have bought the same apples from any farmstand?" First off, all the people that you thought would be there are there. College girls who just want to take insta pics, families who are there for something to do, angry dads and boyfriends who are pissed because women got the right to vote...you known the drill. Pandemic precautions were noted, but definitely not enforced, all the orchard staff seemed to be following mask rules; our cashier was even nice enough to put his on when we came up to pay, but you could tell the Dortios snack adventure he was enjoying before we walked up was his first priority. Yes, he had Dorito fingers...but I guess I should be grateful he didnt lick them off. No apples were to be found on the trees when we were there 10/4/2020. Lots on the ground...with bites taken out of them. You know, like toddler sized bites. Awesome. It was still a super nice day to walk around in nature and I appreciated the size of the orchard. I was also grateful it was chilly; I cant imagine what that place would have smelled like if it was any kinds of warm. Everyone was raving about the apple cider and the donuts. I mean, they were okay. Grocery store quality on both. But people were buying them by the cartload, so maybe it's a midwestern tradition that I'm just not privy to. Listen, it's 1.00 entry, so even at that, I felt like I got my money's worth. Not sure I would visit again, but if I did, I would come during the week and probably not during a pandemic or election year.

Yelp
Came here around 10am on a Saturday a bit before huge crowds swarmed in. There is ample parking, but we had to park at the far edge of the property on the grass, so keep in mind you may need to walk through muddy grounds to get to the orchard. By mid-October all the apples were gone, so picking was not an option. We just wanted to walk around and take photos, so we enjoyed the pumpkin patch and checked out the barn. The slow, smooth tractor ride takes you to the corn maze and pumpkin patch. The pumpkin patch, to my surprise, did not appear to be a patch where pumpkins are grown, but rather a patch of ground where pumpkins were placed. There's also a tiny wooden house, a haystack, and a pumpkin seat for fun photos. The pumpkin and apple cinnamon donuts were way better than I thought they would be! Both soft, sweet, and yummy - and we didn't even try them warmed up. $2 for a fresh donut or $6 for 6. We also picked up some decorative pumpkins 40c/lb. Don't mix them up with pie pumpkins - $2.50 each.

Yelp
They've really thought of everything 'fall' or 'classic midwest'. They have: apple picking GALORE (fields and fields of apples to pick from), sunflower field, maze, pumpkin patch, kids area (goats chickens bee yurts pigs alpacas), food truck area and of course an insane store. Excessive amount of photo opportunities. WARNING; it wasn't very intuitive that you have to wait in line to the right of the barn to pay for entry to go u-pick. There's that line then slightly to the left is the line to ride the tractor to get to the Apple fields. If it's a sunny warm-ish fall day, get there before noon because the population of chicago and Indiana will have the same idea as you

Yelp
County Line Orchard is full of memories. When I was younger my family used to come here once or twice a season to pick apples, play in the corn maze, and get those delicious donuts. At the end of October, I came here on a date. It just so happened that my girlfriend's favorite apples were coming into season. I'm pretty sure she really enjoyed it and I was happy to get some apples and donuts. I'd definitely recommend stopping by next fall.

Yelp
This place was my favorite growing up, live music some days, good food, always getting a big pack of pumpkin donuts and a candy covered donut! In more recent years (pre-covid) it seems to be overcrowded most days and often difficult to navigate through the buildings and people to get anywhere. Great place just gets crazy busy

Yelp
Having done our due diligence in finding this place, we were shocked to see how robust of an operation it was. Imagine if Disney had a Harvest Land---this would be it! If you're looking for a small mom and pop operation, this isn't the place for you. After getting over our initial surprise and snagging a sweet parking spot near the entrance, we walked around trying to find out how to go apple picking. An employee directed us to the big white tent where we purchased 2 Explorer wristbands and stood on the long line to ride the Tractor Truck around the property. This place was packed. It's a popular Fall attraction 45 minutes outside of Chicago---it's going to be. We witnessed everyone with masks and social distance regulations were enforced on lines and while riding the tractor. The best part of the day was the sunflower corn maze game that felt like an Escape Room and we won!! It's a great way to connect and see how good of a team you are with whoever you go with! Highly recommend! The only reason we can't give 5 stars is because the orchard was BARE! Not an apple in sight and the trees looked so sad and sparse. I imagine we got there too late in the season. Be sure to head out to the sunflower field near the entrance---the one on the property was as sad as the orchards!

Yelp
It isn't Fall without a trip (or two) to County Line orchard! We've been coming for many years. The place has really grown and it is a little pricey, but it is still charming and we've made so many great memories there. The fresh apples are delicious, the Galas and Honeycrisps are our top choices. The donuts are also a family favorite, we love both flavors but especially the glazed pumpkin!

Yelp
Loads of signs said masks are mandatory, but that's not really enforced at all. I saw lots of staff not wearing them, and there's no real enforcement of mask policies or social distancing. The apparently famous donuts were disgusting! We bought half dozen mixed pack with the pumpkin glazed and apple cider flavors, and took a bite from each and had to throw them away! The apple cinnamon one tastes like pure sugar with no other flavors other than an odd burnt-oil flavor (reminded me of old/rancid oil). The pumpkin ones were somewhat better, but overall the donuts were worse then Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, or for that matter the $0.50 donuts you get from a gas station or grocery store. We have no idea why people were so excited about these. The one good thing was the large variety of apples you get to pick from. Lots of rarer apples you might not see elsewhere, but they come at a steep price.

Yelp
Too bad County Line Orchard has so many negative recent reviews. Looks like it's mostly for lack of social distancing and mask wearing. I came here with friends this past Saturday and we all had a lot of fun! Yes the lines everywhere are long. It took us about 30-40 minutes to get tickets to get in. We all got the U-pick general admission for just $1 which gave us access to tractor ride and apple picking. There was a line for the tractor and we waited about 15 minutes for it. Unfortunately people did pack into the tractors and sat very close together even though there are marking for social distancing. There were several apple varieties to choose from and it was fun to pick out different ones. Obviously not all apples are in season at the same time so some trees will be bare depending on when you go. After Apple picking we went to the pumpkin patch which is kind of small but cute for photos. The sunflower field is next to that but wasn't that impressive since we only saw scattered sunflowers (probably due to when we went). They have 2 corn mazes which are also in that area but we didn't do those. We wanted apple cider donuts and apple cider so went to the store. Currently they are only selling packaged ones so I got a pack of 6 donuts (combo of apple cider and pumpkin) for $6. The store is very crowded also. It is very cute and commercial though with all the apple and pumpkin related items they sell. I thought everything at the store was reasonably priced. Apples are $1.79/lb. The checkout lines are long and we probably waited 20-30 minutes. They also have a few food stands outside which would probably be fun to check out. There are benches to eat/relax but they were all full. There was live country music which was a cool added touch. In addition to apple picking they also have a farm for kids and the pass for that is advertised adorably as "lil farmers pass" for $5. If you do corn maze you pay $7. Overall we had a great time and it was nice to get away from the city. It was very windy the day we went and there was SO MUCH dust everywhere outside as a side note. Yes the place is very crowded and social distancing isn't enforced unfortunately. Maybe go early or on weekdays to avoid such large crowds.

Yelp
Disappointing trip! This was our family tradition Labor Day spot for apple picking. We drive an hour especially to pick Honeycrisp. Holiday weekend 9 AM and they only a small area across from the corn maze where the Honeycrisp are all green and pale. Along the tractor ride you see rows of Honeycrisp that are red and large but they are blocked off from allowing customers to pick. The Honeycrisp rows by the barn were all picked over. We had no choice but to get the ones that had obviously already been refrigerated as the bags and apples were cold. The pale, green ones we did pick were not sweet. Waste of money! We bought a jug of cider in the barn and staff were rude when we asked for cups to drink the cider in the barn after being out in the heat. We will need to start looking for a new place. Disappointed!

Yelp
We drove from northern Chicago because we had a great experience here maybe 6 years ago. This time around was awful. Staff was not friendly. There was port a potty's but no place to change a baby. There were no hand washing stations, only empty hand sanitizer containers, by the animals and port a potty's. Parking was coordinated but leaving the orchard was a nightmare. The kitchen building was jam packed and we stood in line for 45 mins just to get drinks. I personally wanted to come back here for the cute gift area because last time I found so many great things. This time most of the items were kitschy or cheap looking and the gift shop had much less and it was not accessible because everything was upstairs. We ended up grabbing some donuts and a gallon of cider and left. It was a waste of a Sunday family day together and 3+ hours of total driving time.

Yelp
So, County Line is HUGE, and compared to some other orchards I've been to there's a ton of trees that you can explore. The larger plot means more trees which means you can find a larger variety of apples and more importantly a bunch of ripe apples for the picking and not feel lucky that you found a handful of apples here and there. They also have a similarly huge store that sells apple related products: cider, jams, pies, donuts and a bunch of things that aren't apple related at all. It's basically a big theme park where apples are tangentially the main attraction, but they have a petting zoo, a hedge maze and even a roller coaster. All of which is a little commercialized but that's fine. We were talking to one of the employees though who saw us happily munching away at the donuts and mentioned how envious of us they were. We figured that they must get a bunch of them for free, I'm sure there's a bunch of 'ugly' donuts they just give out. Nope and no employee discount either other than a cup of coffee. We felt pretty bad so we went back and got some donuts for them. Take better care of your staff, jerks.

Yelp
I went there this morning to get some mums. It was the worst parking situation I've ever seen. We all went down one row and parked and then when you went to leave, it was barricaded so all of us had to back all the way down this long row in the parking lot to get out. Very unsafe with all the children running around and it will be a mess when it gets more crowded on the weekends. I mentioned it to the two parking lot employees and they didn't offer any explanation.

Yelp
Go on a weekday and get all up in these fall vibes. County Line Orchard holds a lot of nostalgia for me, a place where little Megan went for field trips and such while growing up in Indiana. This place has become way more than an orchard since then and I would deem it CLO 2.0--it is now an *experience.* I do think this place would be extra fun with kiddos but it totally good for any age. So, what MUST you do here? + Get donuts. Preferably the apple ones (they also have pumpkin, but they're not as good). They sell them by the each (cash only for that option) or by the dozen/half dozen. There's also a little coffee window to buy a cup and really round out your experience. There's an option to get your donut a la mode, but let's not get carried away. + Do some shopping. This place has A TON of knick knacks and food things (think caramel apples, popcorn, pickles, etc)--we probably spent most of our time looking through the fun stuff here. There's a whole second floor of souvenirs and things that we didn't make it up to, but if that's your thing, take a look! + Peruse the pumpkins. They've got all the types and sizes and even if you're not in the market for one, they sure are pretty to look at. + Pay $1 for the tractor ride. Sure, you're breathing in exhaust the whole time, but it's super old shool fun. They make four stops total--two for apple picking, one at the pumpkin patch, and one at the corn maze. We hopped off at the last apple picking spot as it was a pretty short walk back to the big red barn. We didn't pick apples (although you can and then pay for them by the pound), but we did have fun doing some walking through the orchard. + If you have kids, shuck out a few extra bucks to see the farm animals! I'm actually not sure how much this costs (there was something like a "L'il Farmer" level that granted access to this area), but they've got all your barn classics (pigs, goats, chickens, miniature horses) which is fun for photo ops.

Yelp
I can totally see why apple picking at County Line Orchard would be a yearly tradition, whether you go with a group of friends or families. It's so close to Chicago, which is where we were coming from, closer than a lot of other apple picking options in the Chicago suburbs even, and it's very well-priced. With $1, you can enter the orchards and pick as little or as many apples as you want. This is a perfect deal for someone like me who enjoys the activity of apple picking but isn't obsessed with apples. I was still able to try lots of different types of apples, and bring them home, and think of creative ways to use them in the kitchen, which was all fun. We also tried their cider and hot chocolate, which was about $4. The hot chocolate was good, albeit a little too sweet, but the apple cider was really good. I had apple cider a couple days before this trip at a cafe near my apartment, and County Line Orchard's cider was much better. The pumpkin and apple cider donuts were also good, although a little too sweet, so better for sharing than eating an entire box. The people working the concessions and cashiers were really friendly and kind, even though there felt like there were a million people running around the barn where they sell everything. I saw some brusque customers, and the women selling the cider handled it very gracefully. All in all, I really enjoyed my experience at the County Line Orchard and can see myself coming again next year. Maybe next time I'll check out the corn maze.
