"One of the ultra trendy storefronts on SW Oak, Courier Coffee is a European pour-over cafe with some interesting menu forays like shave ice and a takoyaki pop-up. A heavy-duty Technics turntable holds down a significant chunk of real estate in the small space, but there’s a deep bench of vinyl behind the counter, and most afternoons there’s something limited-edition spinning under the tonearm. There are only a couple of indoor tables and a bit of uncovered outdoor seating, weather permitting, but that’s all the better for seeing and being seen in true cafe culture style." - Ben Coleman
"Courier Coffee is a lovely local roaster that’s also home to co-owner Sakiko Setaka’s Japanese shaved ice and snack project, Soen."
"Within Courier Coffee, at 923 SW Oak Street. This pop-up within a downtown coffee shop serves a wide range of Japanese snacks, but it attracted a large portion of its following thanks to its selection of kakigori. The ice here hews more snowy as opposed to feathery, and the shop offers a wide variety of options for those stopping in. A standing list of elaborate bowls — incorporating matcha, adzuki beans, and tofu mochi — are available on most visits, but the specials, which often involve house-made syrups and seasonal fruit, are almost always the best move." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
"Stumptown, Schmumptown. Try Courier Coffee. Right around the corner from Powell's Bookstore and Sizzle Pie, the vibe here is fantastic. The walls are kind of spartan, there’s a record player in the corner, and you can roam on free Internet to your heart’s content. These guys definitely know the food scene here and have great tips. My iced chai latte? Served in a mason jar. Yum and Yum. And those caneles, pictured? They were featured in Portland Monthly. I believe Courier is following the ice cube trend with one big block of ice in either a square or rectangle. I also love the everyday musings on their blog.
