Court Street Grocers Hero Shop

It’s yummy- Lots of veggie options which is nice. But there is something about the place that doesn’t scream “it’s my favorite”. Maybe it’s just my own opinion (but this is my review so if you’re reading this you probably came here to learn about what I think ;)) the menu is very sour/acidic. Like every sandwich didn’t taste totally balanced. I also think it’s kinda overpriced- only by a $1 or $2. It doesn’t feel like a rip off. But just doesn’t feel like the right place for a sandwich that size. If you’re in the neighborhood and want a sandwich it’s a good option. I wouldn’t travel for it though.

5 stars for the ollieflower for $16. Anytime i'm in the area I get this. The sauce makes this entire sandwich. Costs a few bucks more than any hero you'll get in the suburbs, but it's worth it. The italian combo for 17.50 was just ok. Had better from delis in long island and jersey for cheaper, and bigger. Would probably not try this again.

This offshoot of Court Street Grocers in Red Hook is a worthy destination for a bike ride or a walk. Grab a few amazing sandwiches and head over to Valentino Pier and have a perfect Red Hook afternoon!

A great little nook of a place that my girlfriend raves about because of their gluten free options for herself. I went, the sandwich was awesome. The staff/owners I assume were hardworking and seemed like they care. Can’t ask for much more. Especially if you’re gluten free according to my partner.

Holy crap. So good!! On location with my TV show and was told to try this place out. Glad I did!! Had the Mother-in-Law sandwich yesterday and the Mr. Vincent breakfast sandwich today. Both excellent. And their homemade chocolate chip cookies with sea salt are insane. I’m annoyed I didn’t take pictures but I was too busy eating. A GEM in Red Hook!! Thank you!!!

So this unassuming spot is a big deal sandwich shop. They have a lot of things with Brussels sprouts on the menu, which they were out of when I went there. It is understandable as the pandemic is making it very hard for restaurants to keep up their inventory. I hate Brussels sprouts so I was OK with it. Look, if you want to try "the real thing" these places aren't going to have every menu item all the time. The sandwich? Sure. Very good. Expensive Manhattan priced sandwich that is better than and expensive Manhattan sandwich. Vibe? Super chill. Just happy to be working I think. Worth a look.

The sandwiches here are amazing, I mean so good, I can't even explain it. Plan to take them to go as it is very small in here and really only seating for 3-4 people max. It looks like on warmer weather there is some outdoor seating as well, but the sandwiches are very portable

PANICKING! I tried going yesterday and it was closed (on a thurs) and just called and after no answer tried another location and learned that this location is CLOSED INDEFINITELY! Oh my lord if it remains so it’s truly a devastating loss for Red Hook, which doesn’t have thaat many lunchtime options. These sandwiches are earth-shatteringly good and were my favorite lunch treat. Yes a tad pricier, but super filling and worth it for the killer ingredient combinations and quality. And the staff at this location were all so so kind and damn good at their jobs. Esp the gal on the register. Sad. So so sad. Please reopen. Begging you.

Expensive. It's their bread that makes the sandwiches so good! I think it's Caputo's. . Better off just getting a loaf to enjoy however! Plus they always seem to hold weird hours or are "sold out"

I've bicycled past this store at least a dozen times and didn't realize that it was a sandwich shop. I stopped in today and ordered a pulled pork sandwich. I grabbed a bottle of water and waited for my sandwich on Sullivan street. It was a sunny day so I rode to the Valentino pier. My sandwich was very tasty, the pork was tender and delicious, and the bread was just right. My bill was $17.50, value $15.00. Thank U next!

I came here on my way to the Ikea in Red Hook, having heard a lot of hype about it from friends. I have to say, it absolutely lived up to it. We waited in line to order (about 5 minutes) and then grabbed a table and waited about 15 minutes for our food. The foodstuffs they sell in the front of the shop is really fun to browse, if you're trying to kill time. It did feel like a long time to wait for a sandwich, but to be fair, it was a huge sandwich. I didn't get cell service in the restaurant, but luckily they have a (slow-ish) WiFi network that you can hop on for free. I got: - Italian Combo - This was a delightful sandwich. So many ingredients and they combined to make something amazing. Next time, I would get this without the mortadella, but that's just a personal preference. My friend got another sandwich, the name of which I've forgotten, but she also loved hers. My one complaint is that boy is it expensive for a sandwich. Other than that, highly recommend!

If you read my reviews you'll know I'm a fan of the sandwiches at Court Street Grocers... but only the non-"hero shop" versions in Manhattan and Brooklyn. I had the exact same sandwiches I've had dozens of times from the other instantiations. It just wasn't the same when I ordered it from here. One word "sloppy". You can always tell when someone doesn't care about the sandwich they're making... sloppy.

this tiny hole in the wall unpretentious little sandwich shop makes some of the best heros ive ever had in my 63 yrs. They could use a better drink selection but take my advice and run do not walk. Hit ikea afterwards. And take the ikea water taxi from pier 11 Wall St btw. its free.

Just before the lunch rush, we ordered sandwiches for pickup. It was a good thing because when I got there during lunch time to pick up the sandwiches, the place was already packed. Now there isn't much seating (one 4 seater and 2 at the countertop) so it's better to order to go or for pickup. We ordered the meatloaf and the delight. My favorite hands down was the meatloaf, just enough tomato sauce on the meatloaf and the pickles and peppers give it a tangyness and spicy that makes you want to keep eating more.

Really good hamburgers. Stopped by for a quick snack and it turned out to fill me until the next day!

It was really busy when I went but they were so chill and nice about it! The sandwich was great.

Favorite sub shop in BK. Got the Italian combo and wife got the Olie. We both would get them again. Definitely can tell difference with fresh ingredients. Wish it was closer

After recently having a great sandwich at Court Street Grocers (which is actually on Court Street) and also getting a craving for the amazing brownies at Baked around the corner from here, I was very excited to come try out this new Red Hook location that serves heros. This much smaller shop also has a much smaller menu - 7 sandwiches to choose from (one of which is only available for breakfast from 8 - 11 AM), and three special sandwiches. They mostly sound pretty great, but I went with the two best ones: the Smoke Thief ($11) and the Italian Combo ($9). The Smoke Thief has some really juicy pulled pork and some great vinegar slaw. There is also BBQ sauce slathered on there, which makes for a slightly messy yet very excellent and satisfying sandwich. The Italian Combo was also awesome - all the meats you know and love, arranged very neatly in a delicious, compact hero. As most people are complaining, it's a bit on the pricy side (which brings to mind The Bomb Sandwich from Sal, Kris & Charlie's in Astoria, which is at least 4 times as big for a few bucks less), but that's the premium you should expect to pay these days for a sandwich made by a guy with a beard in Brooklyn. Next time I need to go to Baked or Ikea, I'm definitely coming back here to try the Steak & Eggs Hero.

Very tiny yet very tasty place to grab some food. These are the types of places that keep city living/visiting great. Very friendly service and there is a place outside to sit to bring your dog for a walk and sit outside while you mange.

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but this is definitely the place to go if you're craving a sandwich. Really good vegetarian options and chill vibe.

Was wandering down Van Brunt st in Red Hook where I work looking for something for lunch, saw a sign for Court St Grocers Hero Shop and detoured down Sullivan St. Found the tiny little shop, read the eclectic board of sandwiches and settled on "The Ollie" which was Roast Turkey,Broccoli Rabe, Provolone,Siracha Honey and Mayo.Waited the few minutes in the cute little shop (the have a Calvin and Hobbes book!) listening to great classic rock (Jimi Hendrix,The Stones) and had my samich. Walked it back to the office and let me tell you this was sandwich nirvana. First off the bread is amazing, crunchy and fresh despite the humidity we had been having, the turkey is not the typical cold cut style turkey but chunks of carved turkey, the provolone which too often has no taste was the real sharp deal,the broccoli rabe was garlicky and laced with red pepper flakes, the sriracha honey was sweet and spicy as you would expect. The harmony of these flavors, sweet, spicy,salty,earthy was like a symphony! Im gonna go ahead and say it that this is the best sandwich I have had this year. As fo the price that people seem to gripe over it was 9.00, a premium Subway sandwich is about a dollar cheaper, can you compare the two? I put this place up there with Defontes based on that one sandwich. Cant wait to try the sweet potato and beet one

Stopped in very briefly yesterday with boyfriend to try one of their overstuffed sandwiches after an IKEA run. I'd totally have missed it if not for their chalkboard sidewalk sign. They aren't so easy to find, as they are located mid block on a side street just off of Van Brunt. We tried a sandwich named after a Winnie the Pooh character - Piglet, with generous ham slices, Vermont white cheddar, lettuce and a relish like mayo on a nice crusty bread. It was tasty, filling, and had lots of character. Definitely worth a trip for sandwich afficianadoes on their way back from or on their way to IKEA. But be forewarned, there's not a whole lot of seats, and what's there may be full, in which case, you'll need to take it outside.

Been there twice so far. First time got 'the ollie' and found it to be too sweet (nothing about the description explains why). Came back to try the Yam and Cheese. Again, same problem. Felt like I was eating bread and candied yam sandwich, not enough goat cheese or arugula or pickled onions to balance it out. I might give it one last go since they have a lot of options and perhaps I've been unlucky.

My husband and I searched for a cute breakfast cafe to try before doing some shopping in the neighborhood. We found this lovely little spot and it did not disappoint. Super fresh ingredients and fast service.

Can't go wrong at this place! I ordered the Italian Combo - mortadella, soppresata, Swiss cheese, mozzarella, pecorino Romano, arugula and red onion with mayo and lots of vinegar on very crusty bread. It was a FEAST! I ate half for lunch and saved the rest of this delicious sammie for dinner. Grab a lot of napkins as the oil and vinegar will stream down your hands as you chomp down. Enjoy and abondanza!

Classic deliciousness. I have ordered a good portion of the menu and you can't really go wrong. I recommend going with a friend so you can slips and try a few.

I made a mistake. .. I didn't go to Defontes , a few blocks away.. Sandwich was good .. $12 bucks Where's the beef ... It was more like a slider...compared to, the place with over 200 reviews. Flavor and bread were excellent. . If you want bang for your buck and belly go to Defontes. .. This is about trendy...

And that's exactly what I did at Court Street Grocers. As a mostly vegetarian and sometimes pescetarian, I was delighted at the multiple delicious sandwich options that awaited me here. Most shops will concede a wilted caprese sandwich or a poorly conceived portabello mushroom cap sandwich or sometimes if you're lucky, a deep-fried falafel sandwich. Not at Corner Street. Their vegetarian sandwiches are creative, loaded down with vegetables, mind-blowingly delicious, and not reliant on faux meats. I got the vegitalian combo and ate the first half for lunch and wolfed down the other half for dinner. Not sure why other reviewers think their sandwiches are small...I think they're a solid deal for the price. Anyway, back to my new food obsession, the vegitalian sandwich. It's sweet and salty and cheesy and sour flavors in every single freaking bite. The bread was soft but a little crunchy on the outside. The yams were cooked perfectly. The sandwich was well assembled and did not fall apart upon eating. The sandwich tasted equally delicious just after being made and later after being refrigerated. It is easily the best sandwich I've ever tasted in my 13 years of being a vegetarian.

came here for breakfast . nice homely atmosphere. Ordered eggs augurla and cedar cheese sandwich . the order was fast and came back as a freshly made sandwich with in house baked bread and a smile. Nice breakfast place with a menu that offers quite a bit of freshly made options. nice hidden gem for tasty fresh food

Has really gone down hill. Prices going up, sandwiches getting small and lack consistent quality. I think I'm done with this place. I think I'll have to live off of the memories of their greatness.

Hipster vibe tiny sandwich shop, tasty creations, ok prices, fast, delivered to you on the sidewalk. It's not about to challenge Defonte's, but on a Sunday it's the only game in town.

Great place for breakfast and lunch, I work in the neighborhood and try to eat here once a week. Bit off the beaten path but worth the trip. Their bread is great, the pairings they make on the sandwiches are so flavorful they brighten up a crappy day. My personal fav is the piglet. Truly genuine flavors that come together perfectly. They also use a lot of farm fresh seasonal products so the menu changes with the season.

They have a great selection of sandwiches and easy going friendly staff. There are maybe 6 seats inside and a few outside so plan to eat alfresco just in case. We like to car picnic. We think their prices are fair for upscale sandwiches. It is so good I plan to work through every sandwich on their menu. So far it was all great. I think they use bread from Caputo's bakery. If you don't know them it may be worth the trip down Court st. They are one of my favorite bakeries and their bread does take these sandwiches to a totally higher level. Oh a cheese only sandwich isn't on the menu but they'll make one. Which is good for kids with less adventurous taste buds.

I would eat here every day except that I don't live in Brooklyn and that might be a little unhealthy. Instead Ineat one every three months when I visit Red Hook. I love to get their sandwiches in the morning or in the afternoon and take them down to the water and eat them with the care of a new lover. The bread is chewy and so so fresh made but not too thick or dominating. The ingredients are in perfect order and quantity. YUM

Okay so I have to start by saying that the first few times I tried Court Street Grocers right after they opened years ago, the portions were comically small. The turkey sandwich was literally one tiny strip of chicken on wonder bread. As a result I wrote them off along with the subsequent sub shop in Red Hook. With great options like HBH nearby I never thought about them again. Fast forward a few years and I found myself hunger for a turkey sandwich so decided to give them another try today. As it turned out the Court street location was sold out of turkey and roast beef so we called the red hook location. Turned out they had both and their prices are actually a few dollars cheaper. When I got there I realized this used to be the location of our favorite Mexican joint, Viva (oh how I miss their avocado fries and salsa). We always loved this out of the way location. Court street made the tiny shop look great and the staff was super friendly. We got the $9 Droopy (roast beef with horseradish sauce and fried onions on Caputos hero). The roast beef was cooked to perfection and incredibly tender and easy to eat with no fat or mystery bits. Just a really solid and huge sandwich (literally 3 times what they used to give you). We also got the $8 turkey sandwich with butter pickles arugula and red onions). It was pure perfection. Really great flavor profile and huge. Both sandwiches are substantial but don't feel heavy or overwhelming. They are just really well balanced sandwiches. The experience turned around my whole opinion of the company. In fact think I may be going again tomorrow.

As a kid I was terrified of beets. The smell, color and texture...it really freaked me out. I decided to tackle my fears courtesy of Court Street Grocers. The Yam and Cheese was my ticket to beet redemption and it was incredible. Yams, beets and cheese. Holy shit. You must try this sandwich. One of the best vegetable sandwiches I have ever had. Update: I went back the next week, as soon as I was able to do so. I now dream about this sandwich. Beets flying overhead, hero bread as clouds and one hungry person laying down, hoping for rain.

A sandwich is a subtle and elusive mistress. It seems so simple. So elegant. But can easily be over complicated and temperamental. The folks here are sandwich gurus. They effortlessly go between the classics to the adventurous. And they consistently hit home runs. My suggestion: get a classic (turkey, Italian etc) and pair it with something cool and wacky( like the Uncle Chucky). Finish it off with a soda and chips. Boom. Mic drop.

I used to work in the area, and would come in every few weeks for the incredible breakfast sandwich. (It's also quite the bargain.) Over those months I became friendly with Pepe, who is a wonderful person (and makes a GREAT sandwich). Sadly, most of the sandwiches I have enjoyed have been seasonal specials (lamb meatball was especially memorable). Most significantly is that I came in a few weeks ago for Cheerwine, for a stocking stuffer. The shop was sold out, but a manager offered to drive to Cobble Hill so I could buy a few bottles. It was an incredibly kind gesture, and the resulting joy will cross the state's borders.

Chucky for $9.80 plus some Cheerwine made for a nice afternoon meal, even if it took longer than it should have, even with just the one friendly staffer. Closes at 4, which is a shame, but understandable.

Red Hook has been crying out for a gourmet sandwich shop for a while, and Court Street Grocers delivers. Sure, you can get a $3 bagel around the corner on Van Brunt, but you really should treat yourself to a breakfast hero for a couple of dollars more here, or one of their insanely delicious rolls. It's friendly, has a local owner, is clean and the food is top notch. Salmon your fixie half a block and pay them a visit.

Just passed by here!!!! It's definitely the best ice coffee I have ever tried during the whole summer!!! And the sweet little things are amazing!!!!!! Like a little pies)))))))) love it! Really good and fast service!

Just stopped in for a sandwich ordered the combination italiano i knew when i saw the sandwich it was correct took a bite and i felt like i got off the plane at roma airport authenic fresh and made the way its supposed to be with olives and shaved pecorino and the right amount of meat and arugula perfect bread. If your in the neighborhood this is the place to go salute

Best. Vegetarian sandwich. EVER. Bread was perfect and light, the portions were on point, everything was so delightful and heavenly. Can't stop thinking about it. Came back to write a review to confess my love to the world. If you're looking for the place to go for a sandwich- this is the one.

Holy SHIT. This place is the bomb. Super tiny inside. Some seating. The sandwich was crunchy in the right spots and gooey in the right spots and all around CRAZY good. I'm moving in across the street just for the sandwiches. Wow. I got corned beef and it fell apart.

A little out of the way, but thats because im use to having everything close by. Aside from that, the sandwiches are AMAZING. Worth every single cent you pay. The people behind the counter are pretty nice and the service is pretty fast considering how much is put into the sandwiches.

We were in gowanus/ Carroll area, looking for some sandwiches and I'm so glad we found this place! I had the tuna and my wife had the floppy. The bread is crunchy and fresh! The sauce and toppings were perfect! Can't wait to come back and try another one. Staff is super friendly too!

This small offshoot of the sandwich counter at Court Street Grocers serves sandwich-type foods to go or eat in their cozy space. We were a little surprised that our sandwiches we were served were cold, as were later learned they were intended to be that way, but they were good. It's nice that several people who have lunch here largely know each other from the neighborhood. It adds to the neighborhoodly vibe.

I've had sandwiches from this and the other brooklyn location of CSG probably 100 times. Without a doubt one of the best sandwich shops in the entire city, in my opinion. They have something for everyone, and they're good every time. If you are looking for a quick lunch in red hook this is the first place i'd recommend you go.

Great sandwich, fast service and very friendly service. Counter clerk gave me a run down on all the sandwiches and helped me make my decision. Taste great, sandwich was a little light in terms of how much meat was in there and I'm a bit frugal so the price is tough but I keep going back for more so obviously it's worth it. You want a cheap sandwich filled to the brim with bad cheap ingredients, there's tons of places in Redhook to find that, want a well made gourmet sandwich with only the finest ingredients? Look no further.

Super fresh & interesting combinations. A little pricey but it's Brooklyn so it's not out of line for the area.

Had the Uncle Chucky today. It was delish! I gave only four stars because for the price ($9) and size (7") I would have liked that to include a bag of chips or a drink it something. Anything! I'll come back but don't plan on making this a usual lunch spot since I can get more bang for my buck elsewhere nearby.

I had the breakfast sandwich twice and it was pretty darn good. Quality ingredients. Brooklyn roasting company coffee. It is a great addition to red hook.

Pulled pork. Pulled pork. Pulled pork. This hero shop is amazing and worth stopping there if you are any where near it. They have delicious homemade pickles that give the pulled pork the perfect sweet crunch and a homemade slaw that ads a great texture to each bite while complimenting their perfectly toasted and fresh bread. If I could u would repeat this meal every day.

This place is cute with descent sandwiches but it always takes way too long. Waited for a sandwich for 45min on a Sunday. Don't waste your time going here.

SImple layout. Amazing sandwiches. Everything is really fresh and they balance the flavors really well. Definitely one of my go to lunch places in Red Hook!
