My initial reaction of this place was that this was going to be a positive experience because of the nice atmosphere, but at the end I have been left with a rather sour opinion. First, the appetizer was delivered BEFORE the bread and salad, which somehow arrived 30 MINUTES after we had been seated. Second, I understand the place was busy when we arrived, but I do not understand how two other tables were seated and served before us. It was VERY UNPLEASANT to watch while hungry. Third, in total the whole sit-down took 1 HOUR AND 20 MINUTES. Even after the number of patrons had calmed down, our waitress somehow took 10 minutes to get us take out boxes. It felt like she was very inattentive to our table, taking long amounts of time to even take our order, so that most of the wait wasn't even on the food but on the waitress coming to our table. Fourth, I ordered a simple spaghetti and meatballs that somehow still got butchered. The sauce was mostly water and the meatballs were mostly breadcrumbs. Took lots of salt and pepper to taste like anything. My final gripe with this place is the outdoor seating wonderfully looks out on a bleak and grey parking lot, definitely not somewhere you would want to take a nice date.

We have visited Covino's for over 25 years. The food is the best quality and it's consistent. Joe (the owner) is there nearly every day to greet you. Depending on the weather - you may be able to sit on the patio. The desserts are the great. All of the servers are wonderful. BYOB! I can't recommend them enough!! I can add a ton of extra notes. I continue to try new/different menu items. We absolutely love the sandwiches in addition to the entrees!!! The cheesy garlic bread (we prefer without tomatoes) - it will blow your mind!!

Our first time here, wont be the last. Everything about the meal and the evening there was great. Best red sauce (on my veal Parm) I've had (OK, tied with Gino's in Baton Rouge). Pizza outstanding. Only downside was we forgot our wine at the house. Mr. Covino took the time to visit with every table and then shake hands as we left.

This place is really cute! BYOB- but there is a corkage fee of $2 per glass. It’s only open for 5 hours a day so it feels really intimate and nice. The covered patio is fenced in so there’s a bit of nice outdoor seating too. The food for the most part is pretty good! We got a bunch of different pastas so that we could try everything. There were a couple that felt a bit more watery as sauces, and a few that felt under salted but those are minor fixes. Maybe the pizza is better here. They give you house bread & a salad with your entree. There is a few things that you can order which are not on the menu- and everything sounds really good! The tiramisu was very delicious & the cheesecake tasted very fresh too.

Google
Fantastic Food & Great BYOW Experience! Covino’s is an amazing spot for delicious Italian food! We had a large meat calzone, which was flavorful and perfect for sharing. Our friends customized a large veggie calzone with their choice of fresh ingredients—super flexible and tasty! Another standout was the spinach and cheese-filled Abruzzi bread. everything was served with extra tomato sauce. The house salad was fresh, with a fantastic dressing. The best part? Homemade cheesecake—absolutely spectacular! Plus, it’s BYOW, so we brought our own wine and enjoyed a great meal at a great value. Highly recommend!

We used to come get the wings years ago when our friends moved to Plano, we introduced them. But revisiting it after all that time made it just that much more special. Joe is still making the rounds in the dining room, the staff is wonderful, following his hospitable lead. Its cozy vibe matches the comfort in the food. Not exaggerating, plus the BYOB adds to the whole experience you make with it!

Sure, the food is some of the best in town but....the true secret to this place is that Joe has the best staff in town. The place was packed tonight (please support your local businesses') but the staff performed with aplomb. Honestly, half the reason we come here is for the staff and the home felt, family feeling you get when dining here. I'd put Joe's people up against anybody at Flemings, Del Friscos, Eddie V;s, etc...

Google
The restaurant's a little hidden in the back of the center. It's not the most elegant place, but it's not without its charm. It reminds me of a New York neighborhood restaurant. There's a familiarity and charm and it's the kind of place where you can become a regular. The food is delicious. I'm not a fan of the bread. The white loaf may be the worst bread I've had a restaurant. With that aside, the rest of the food is really good. The red sauce is fantastic. One in our party can't eat gluten without becoming ill, and they made a gluten-free pasta for her and grilled chicken with capers and artichokes. She really enjoyed it. I had the cappuccino pie. It's worth trying. I can't wait to go back and try more. It is a BYOB establishment. They offer wine glasses and open the wine. Super nice staff.

Yelp
Ordered pick up with door dash and met Bill when I went in to pick up, he greeted me with a great energy and the Romano chicken Alfredo was a 9/10. Only thing that would've made it a 10 is eating it fresh!

Yelp
Can't say enough great things about this places. We'v been coming for 30 years and never had a bad experience. The food is consistently delicious. Joe, the owner, is very personable. Wish he would open one in Prosper but well worth the road trip!!

Yelp
I ordered to go and look at this piece of lasagna they gave us. This was $20. Along with the sad salad. This was our first time ordering and will be our last. Food is cold and I went up there and ordered in person, so it wasn't sitting.

Yelp
Covinos in Plano is a very charming and true New York ambiance, Italian restaurant with a warm cosy Patio. The restaurant offers superb authentic Italian cuisine that reflects the Covino family's origins in New York State at a very reasonable price served by a friendly staff who make it very enjoyable. It's my go to Italian Restaurant when in the Addison/Plano/Frisco/ Richardson area and have been at least 30 times .

Yelp
Very popular Italian restaurant on independence Parkway in Plano. in the corner of a strip mall, which gave it the opportunity to have covered patio seating, which is nice. Very friendly and attentive service. Don't let the waitlist scare you. Ours was supposed to be 30 minutes and ended up being only 15. Just depends. Two of us split a pizza, which is what Covino's is known for. Very good New York style pizza. We also had two of the chicken entrées. The Aristocat dinner is chicken and eggplant Parmesan and I thought pretty good. It comes with a side of pasta and all covered with a vodka type sauce. However, beware of the Agnolotti Chicken dinner unless you like the taste of bacon, which my wife doesn't in many things. It is tender slices of smoked chicken with a bacon flavor, covered in a cream sauce. Wasn't crazy they charged us 4 corkage fees ($2 pp) even though one of us only had beer and drank out of the bottle. Not a big deal as I love the BYOB. Their house salad is exceptional and I highly recommend getting it.

Yelp
It's been a couple of years since our last visit. I ordered the Stromboli and it was the size of a nerf football and oh so delicious. My wife went with spaghetti and meatballs and the meatballs were huge so she only ordered one and I brought home the other for a nice meatball sandwich the next day. Great people and food. Cool old pictures hung throughout the restaurant that makes for great ambiance.

Yelp
My most favorite Italian place to go to in the DFW metroplex. Small hole in the wall in the middle of Plano. Owner is always so nice. He will often say hi to everyone like old-school. The food is fantastic and very affordable. Also BYOB which is really great.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our first time at Covino's this evening. We loved the ambience, especially the Frank Sinatra music. The food was fantastic: Buffalo shrimp appetizer Chicken Aristocrat Braciole Dessert- cappuccino ice cream pie Bread and salads were delicious Everything was delicious. Our server Allison was attentive and friendly. Covino's is open for dinner only: Monday - Saturday 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM Sunday 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Allen E.

Yelp
Wait staff pleasant and informative. Management discourages discussion about the menu and restaurant. I cannot recommend based on hospitality sadly.

Yelp
A friend took us to this place to get pizzas to go. They were excellent. New York style pizzas were our pick

Yelp
I really wanted to love this restaurant..and i am willing to give it another shot. The staff was so nice! The only dish that we enjoyed was the chicken piccata and veal Parmesan. The eggplant Parmesan wasn't warmed all the way through...and the side order of pasta with marinara is a sauce that didn't simmer long enough..so the water from the sauce was not melded well into the tomato sauce/oil. Next time I will try another entree and choose pasta w/ butter/mushrooms on the side.

Bart D.

Yelp
By far my favorite place to eat Italian food! My go to dishes are the chicken agnolatti and the chicken aristocrat! Thank you Joe Covino for all that you do!

Yelp
This is a very comfortable family oriented Italian restaurant. I like the hours of operation. I think the food is very good. I especially enjoy the chicken fettuccine and bottle of wine. As in any restaurant in Texas. If you do not finish the bottle, you can take the rest home. I highly recommend this restaurant. I sat with the owner and he is a very nice man. His name is Joe Covino.

Gene C.

Yelp
Place was jammed but food and service did mot suffer nor disappoint. Joe Covino came around and greeted us and visited making sure all was well.

Margaret M.

Yelp
So delicious! We love this cozy BYOB. The Chicken Aristocrat is divine. I also love the classic Eggplant Parmesan. Service is friendly and prompt.

Yelp
The menu from 60 or more years ago has a phone number of WEstmore 9-9685 In Port Chester N.Y. There were no Area Codes then and if you wanted to call long distance, you had to raise an AT&T operator to put the call through. There is a long standing family heritage at work here and the food reflects the pride this family has in serving guests for generations of the Covino family. We grew up in New Jersey and have sampled many Italian restaurants in the Plano area, searching for a real authentic New York area pizza. Covino's serves the only pizza we would give a 100 percent authentic rating so far. We haven't hit them all yet, of course. This hugely popular very small restaurant set in a vintage strip mall in Plano is only open for dinner with very restricted business hours. Bu sure to check before you go. It is very casual family oriented and is a BYOB restaurant.

Yelp
Our favorite neighborhood restaurant! You can't go wrong with any of their pasta dishes! Dining-in or getting to-go, everything is plentiful and enjoyable. Our simple favorites are the Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo or the Spaghetti with Meatballs. And the Chicken Agnolotti is mouthwatering!

Shannon S.

Yelp
It used to be good, but went recently and the marinara was like barely heated canned tomato paste, the deep dish pizza was not deep dish and the manicotti was doughy. Also do not recommend the patio unless you are into second hand smoke.

Yelp
It's been years since we went to Covino's (like maybe 15!) and it's just as good as I remember. In fact, I'm questioning many of my life decisions for to-go Italian fare over the last 15 years. We wanted some basics, and Covino's didn't disappoint. Our choices are part of the House Specialties - lasagna and eggplant parmigiana. Both came with salad and bread (the latter was both Italian white and focaccia). Call to order and head inside to pickup. They limit the number of people waiting in the lobby, so they try to get you in and out quickly. The dining area is still delightfully small and Covino's is still a BYOB place. *DATE NIGHT* if you feel safe for eating out. The patio is super-nice and, for me, a new addition. They even have heaters.

Tammy N.

Yelp
I've been looking for a good pizza and pasta place, but not this one. It was horrible! I spent $96.19. The pizza was soggy, the lasagna tasted frozen, and the bread had no flavor--no garlic or butter at all. Don't waste your money; I'm very disappointed. I really would give it 0 STARS.

Larry W.

Yelp
I ordered their deep dish pizza and it was not even close to being deep dish. The crust was maybe just slightly thicker than a New York style, what a disappointment. Used to order from them years ago and it was true deep dish, should have known when they said it would be ready in 15-20 minutes.

Jay W.

Yelp
First pizza I've had from Covino's in several years. Yuck! Sauce was like it was burned or old. Not good at all. I'll stick with Joe's on Spring Creek.

Steve M.

Yelp
You would never know this gem of a restaurant is back there.... Great pasta and sauces (gravy). Owner is present and staff was very good. Go and enjoy!

Christi M.

Yelp
Best Fettuccini Alfredo I've ever had, hands down. Treat yourself to their pizza and all the appetizers but do not skip the thin ribbonlike noodles in the chicken fettuccini alfredo. It keeps me coming back, always. It feels like a neighborhood place where you feel welcome. Please skip the chains and treat yourself.

Yelp
This place feels like you've walked into an old school Italian restaurant in NYC. The food was excellent. I will say, I think the carbonara had cream in it, which is not traditional, but it was still tasty. The baked ziti noodles had the most amazing al dente texture. I also really loved the caprese appetizer, the pesto and roasted red peppers were a nice addition.

Brian D.

Yelp
I love this place, real NY Italian food. No menu in Italian. Interior non pretentious. Great service. With a visit at least once per month. Never had a bad experience. Been around so long, most folks know!
google avatar

Teresa S.

Yelp
If you want local mom and pop delicious Italian....you've found your place. I highly recommend the chicken agnolotti. It is so good. The service is great too. Make sure to bring your own bottle of wine, beer, etc. as they don't serve alcohol.

Long time Plano residents. Place is always Great! Thanks Joe :) ..............AbruzziChicken Agnolotti

Yelp
Really wasn't impressed with this place. The only half decent things were the meatballs, and calamari. we had: -calamari, not bad -caprese salad, marinated peppers were bitter -spaghetti and meatballs, meatballs weren't bad -veal parmigiana, veal was as tough as shoe leather and the sauce was bland. but at least they comped it Service was passible. Will not return.

Yelp
Did takeout. The Chicken Aristocrat was incredibly tasty. Loved the tomato cream sauce with the chicken & eggplant. The braciole was phenomenal- super tender flank steak with this flavorful filling... the celery and onion inside still had the slightest texture which was really welcome. The bread and salad that came with were good - the ranch dressing was salty. Tiramisu and chocolate layer mousse cake were good cappers

Marcia S.

Yelp
This restaurant makes you think you have gone to Italy. The pasta is al dente. The marinara sauce is beyond delicious. Have never been disappointed by anything I have ordered.

Leigh U.

Yelp
Fabulous authentic Italian food. Comfortable homey atmosphere with great service. Bring your own beverage

Shihab A.

Yelp
The food was good especially the Abruzzi Bread appetizer. Tana served us perfectly, the ambience was cool we felt as we were at home.

Mark S.

Yelp
Food is fantastic authentic Italian. Salads are always fresh . Pasta is really great. Chicken Parmigiana is hard to beat . Inside dining is really cozy and a Texas out side patio dining experience as a second option is there for those who like outdoor dining. One of our favorite Plano Restaurants.

Yelp
Still a childhood favorite still going strong! Anytime I'm in town to visit parents we make a trip over. Never disappoints

Yelp
Covino's is a restaurant I've gotten delicious to-go pizzas from for years, but I just recently tried dining in. My only regret was not dining in sooner! Familiar with Covino's popularity, we didn't mind waiting for our table while sipping on our BYOB wine on their warm fire-lit patio. There is a small and reasonable corkage fee and I love that just about everyone else waiting for their table also had their bottle of wine handy. Clearly a neighborhood favorite, many of the parties waiting struck up conversations with each other as well as the owner who was personally seating parties, cleaning tables, and opening bottles. When we made it to our table we settled on the calamari as our app. It was tender and delicious, served with a bright marinara sauce. For my main I ordered the chicken aristocrat and it was incredible. The chicken was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. It paired amazingly with the eggplant and tomato cream sauce. Obviously we couldn't pass on dessert and their tiramisu always hits. Clearly I've been missing out here by ordering my meals to-go from Covino's and I can't wait to dine in again!

Yelp
Excellent little spot, a local favorite. Very family friendly, but still romantic, and the food was incredible. Everything I had was fantastic with the exception of the lasagna, surprisingly enough. The flavor was great, but as with many Italian restaurants, the pasta was way overdone. I assume in a restaurant environment, keeping the lasagna pasta al dente is pretty difficult. Regardless of that, I still give Covinos five stars for service, flavor, and the ambiance.

Anaadi A.

Yelp
The service was great they were super nice over the phone, however when I received the order there were huge discrepancies with what we got, one of the order that was supposed to have chicken didn't have chicken and the portion size was a quarter of the box, one of the pastas had just sauce and barely any pasta at all, the calzone did t even come with marinara sauce, and the wings were sopping wet and had absolutely no crispiness. Overall, I will not be coming back
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
AH-mazing pizza and service. Unfortunately, I haven't ate inside the establishment yet and all my orders have been to go. However, the staff goes above and beyond to provide a great experience. The first time I walked in to pick up my order, I was treated as a life long customer. The owner is there all the time and is always checking on tables as he makes his way to the front. Very friendly and fast service. I absolutely love their cheese pizza. I'm not a fan of pizza with red sauce (don't hate me) but boy oh boy this pizza is so yummy and never has an overwhelming amount of sauce. Thanks for the continuous great service and food!
google avatar

Janet Z.

Yelp
Excellent salad Caprese with pesto with eggplant rollitini, made to perfection! I had side of spinach ( skipped pasta). Other guests had mussels which were fantastic, spaghetti & meatballs & fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. BYOB makes it terrific!!!

Dianna H.

Yelp
Our 7 year old picky eater said this is her favorite restaurant. She ate more than I've ever seen her eat. Spaghetti and a meatball. And she is taking the paper table topper home-with her art work. You still got it, Joe!

Marilyn G.

Yelp
Food quality isn't as good as it used to be. The service is good and the ambiance is adequate.

Kathy W.

Yelp
We were excited to try a new place. The creamy Italian salad dressing was great despite the one tomato slice on the salad. The calamari had very little flavor and the marinara tasted like it was from a jar with no flavor. The bread assortment was tasty. I ordered the Spaghetti & Meatballs. Marinara was watery with no taste. My husband order a Calzone and it was watery inside like it was frozen and no flavor. My daughter had Chicken Agnolotti Smoked chicken & cheese ravioli served in a fresh basil cream sauce and it was amazing. We took a cheese pizza to go and it tasted like Sabaro pizza that you get from the mall. The Tiramisu and cheesecake were very good. The service was not great. Waiter never checked on us for more drinks or to see if our meal was ok. For the price this was not worth it.
google avatar

Adam P.

Yelp
Soggy bread, lumpy noodles, sloppy packaging. Incredibly disappointing. I've heard many say they enjoy this place...it's Fazoli's, just at double the price and with half the flavor.
google avatar

Edward P.

Yelp
Best Italian food in Plano. Covino's is just so amazingly consistent with it's food and service. It's no wonder that we see the same people from week to week at the restaurant. We've tried other places but the just don't hold a candle to Covino's.

Jim D.

Yelp
We recently had dinner at Covino's for the first time and were so impressed by the quality of their food that we asked them to cater our holiday party. The Chicken Piccata , Baked Ziti and Pasta Prima Vera were all outstanding; our guests couldn't stop raving about it. We will definitely be returning to our new favorite Italian restaurant.

Joe E.

Yelp
Ok. I went into this place with super high hopes. Recommendations everywhere. First greeted with canned coke instead of refills (ok I guess I'll live.). Then we get the fried cheese sticks that somehow seem to be soft but burnt and cold on the inside? How anyone accomplishes this I am not sure. Then the absolute worst calamari I have every experienced in my life. 75% of the plate was not even calamari, it was the fried batter. And the calamari itself was pretty unpalatable. The main course was a crime. We ordered veal parmigiana. One cannot hide how small the portion was with almost an entire jar of STORE BOUGHT sauce!!!! Not to mention the thickness of the veal was that of 3 slices of sliced deli meat. My son ordered the Calzone. They had ham slices in it that resembled the slices from a lunchable is appearance and taste. My son recognized it right away. He looked and said are these from lunchables? I have never been so disappointed to drop $80 for an Italian meal in my life. I get it's a nostalgic favorite here in Plano but we won't be back. We did eat all of our food (I was raised to do so). Severely disappointed because we showed up at 5pm (when they open) hoping it would maximize the quality. Not the case.
