"Texas-style barbecue smoked over mesquite reigns at Cowboy’s Smokehouse Cafe in Panguitch, Utah. Try tri-tip, ribs, chicken, turkey, or pulled pork paired with sweet potatoe fries, a baked yam, mashed potatoes and gravy. Or make it a green chili pork burrito, country-fried steak, trout, or a range of steaks." - Susan Stapleton

A Feast Worth the Drive! The food was an absolute blast! The meats were incredibly delicious, and the side dishes were just as impressive. We tried the New York and BBQ cuts—both were amazing—so good that we ended up adding the filet mignon too. We were completely full, but it felt like a true festín. The service was excellent—friendly and attentive. If you’re nearby (or even an hour away like we were), it’s 100% worth the visit. You won’t regret it!

Google
One look at Cowboy's Smokehouse during dinner service and you can tell this place is the clear winner in the town of Panguitch. Even with the waiting line out the door, more eager patrons would pile in, drawn by the BBQ smokers strategically placed right outside of the restaurant. Dinner seemed impossible when we went, so we opted for lunch the next day. The food was phenomenal! Southwest Burger was juicy and flavorful, with pepper jack cheese melted perfectly atop a bed of green chili. Pig Tails, though an appetizer, is big enough portions as a meal on its own. Service was excellent. They try their darndest to accommodate everyone for dinner service despite the large influx. Makes you feel like you are home after a long hard day at work. Ten out of ten!

Google
This place is amazing. Great atmosphere, great staff, and food was amazingly great and decent prices!!! We ordered the fried steak (house recommended), and the bbq beef and turkey, with 6 different sides. EVERYTHING was great!!

Google
Wow!!! Highly recommend this restaurant. I tried several dishes and loved each one. My choice was the chicken fried steak. The steak was tender and the mashed potatoes were lumpy (a sign of homemade potatoes). It was served with gravy poured over and a side of broccolini. So delicious!!!

Google
This place is amazing! The food is great, well seasoned and fresh. We’ve had a burger, steak, salmon and pulled pork with sides of fries, vegetables and salad. Especially the French fries were a highlight! When you find yourself in town, put yourself on the waitlist, it’s worth it!

Google
On a whim, used AI (Grok) to search for a fun, quirky place to eat dinner while driving from Zion to SLC. Cowboy Steakhouse Cafe came up. We parked out front of this cute, welcoming storefront with clear signage and plenty of parking. Immediately the staff sat us, and we started smelling the smoked meats and taking in the friendly vibe. Autumn, our server, made great recommendations. We had smoked, pulled pork and steak bites. Ummmmazing. Never saw anything like steak bites before, but each one was tender, juicy, beefy. Now the star of the show (if I have to pick something) was the pinto beans and the BBQ sauce. This shouldn't sell the mains short. This was the BEST I have had all week. But the pinto beans knocked my socks off. And the BBQ sauce (on the perfectly smoked pork) could have been served in Kansas City with pride. I might have to move to Panguitch, so I can eat here on the regular.

Google
We ate here this weekend during our visit and out of all the places we ate in Panguitch this was our favorite by a long shot! We were pleasantly impressed with the food, and service. Autumn was our server and made sure we were taken care of. Picture is the bacon wrapped jalepenos… they were AMAZING but all of the food was delicious! Thanks for a great experience!

Google
Came on a Thursday afternoon and service was quick and professional! The food was even better! Will come back if I’m in the area again. I’d recommend getting the ribs if you come it! By far the best. Loved the cobbler as well 🤠

Yelp
Cowboys Smokehouse really impressed us. The country fried steak was probably the best I've ever had, crispy, tender, and covered in a great-tasting gravy. My wife's burger was cooked perfectly and came with fresh toppings. Our friends had fries that were seasoned just right and not greasy at all. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. If you're passing through Panguitch or spending time at Panguitch Lake, I'd definitely recommend stopping by. Amazing food and a great small-town vibe.

Yelp
This establishment in Downtown Panguitch is a good place for a standard American-style meal. It is rather easy to locate on the Northeast end of the main downtown strip. Street parking is relatively easy to find. We visited on a busy Saturday night around 7:30 PM. We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, which was not very surprising. The dining room is decent-sized, but the capacity is not huge. It can fill up on busy nights. The interior is pleasant enough, though not elegant. It's definitely oriented toward casual dining. The menu offers a few favorites at OK prices by today's standards. If you're up for things like chicken, fish or steak, this is a good bet. Our server attended to us quickly after we were seated and did a good job throughout our stay. My wife tried the Sirloin Steak with a Baked Yam and Asparagus as her sides. I had Smoked Turkey with Sweet Potato Fries and Coleslaw. Everything was tasty. The availability of the baked yam was a particularly nice touch. The final cost was about $27 per person with food, drinks, tax and tip. All things considered, while this is a solid place for a good dinner, the price tag ends up being a little higher than I'd expect for what it is. It borders on a 4.5-star place, but I cannot justify in comparison giving it five stars. I'm settling on a strong 4-star rating and that feels about right. If you're in town and enjoy the type of fare they offer, it's a good choice.

Yelp
Great steak dinner, Sirloin and Rib Eye With baked potato and fresh asparagus. Everything cooked perfect and served quickly. Super nice staff and a wonderful small town atmosphere.

Yelp
Hospitality and great atmosphere in this place. Lesa was great, gentle, friendly and very helpful giving us suggestions on the food available from the menu. The soup was delicious and my meal wonderful. If I'll be in the area in the future I will definitely stop by. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Went there for a group dinner, service was buffet style and good. The brisket and baked beans were pretty darn good, the peach cobbler and ice cream was excellent!

Yelp
After a day of hiking in Bryce canyon, of course we were hungry and were staying by Panguitch. Limited options since it was February and it's considered their off season. The inside is nice of course with a Western theme. The menu had decent options and of course since we were hungry everything sounded somewhat good. Our waitress was nice and attentive so good service. There was just one other table when we arrived but more people showed up afterwards but nothing crazy. The food was good and hit the spot, not saying it was anything amazing but can't complain and it filled us up and a good portion for what we spent. Left there content and considering there wasn't many options available in town because it was also getting late. We were happy with this choice. Basically a safe bet if you are staying in or closer to panguitch.

Yelp
Stayed in Panguitch for a few days as our home base to visit Bryce Canyon. It's a small Main Street so not many options for dining. We dined here for breakfast and dinner and had a wonderful experience both times. The restaurant was clean and service was great for breakfast. It was a little slow for dinner but they were absolutely slammed. Breakfast was great they have all the staples and good sized portions. For dinner we each had BBQ pork and the flavor was outstanding. If they have jalepeno poppers available you just order them - the best I've ever had!

Yelp
Tiff was very warm and hospitable, friendly service. We loved the chicken the most of the smoked meats. The beef and turkey were not as melt in your mouth or soft and tender. The yam, and sweet potato fries plus the green beans were great. Hard pass on the mashed potatoes and gravy, did not taste very good at all. The Blackberry cobbler was a nice end to the meal.

Yelp
Hands down the best food we've eaten on this trip. Highly recommend! We went around 4:30 pm but it was packed by the time we left around 6, so go early. We got the potato skins, wagyu burger, and the sausage platter and they were all delicious and the portions were large. We had to take half our meal to go. We also got the peach cobbler and it was perfection. Definitely the best place to eat in town with super kind staff!
google avatar

Yelp
Cowboys is great if you're looking for a solid meal with big portions. I was thankful to find a good meal after a long day of driving. Our server was kind and the restaurant of the staff were friendly. The reason why I'm not giving a higher rating is because the restaurant it self didn't feel very cleanly to me which didn't make the experience as enjoyable as it could be.

Yelp
We were staying in Panguitch for the night so we could head to Bryce Canyon in the morning. We decided to check Yelp to see if there was anything nearby for dinner and found this place! Street parking was easy, staff were super friendly, the restaurant is family owned. I ordered the sirloin steak which came with two sides. I ended up getting the mashed potato with country gravy and cottage cheese. I also got myself a cup of loaded baked potato soup. Personally for me, I thought the food tasted okay. The steak was flavorful. The mashed potatoes wasn't... mashed enough for me and this was my first time trying country gravy and cottage cheese so I'm not too sure how I feel about it. The soup was also different from what I'm used too, it wasn't.. loaded enough for me personally but I still enjoyed it. If you pay with cash, you get a discount! Again, our server was super friendly and attentive.

Yelp
What a lovely restaurant with fantastic service and food. Our server, Paula, made excellent food and drink suggestions and gave premium service. We started out with complimentary rolls which were warm and came with butter. We then ordered sarsaparilla sodas and shared the combo dinner plate (sausage, pulled pork, ribs) which came with two sides. We finished with blackberry cobbler with vanilla bean ice cream. We hope to be in the area again so we can eat here again!

Yelp
Holy Mosses Great Find! Kind of our halfway point between AZ and MT and needed a solid Linner! I chose the Ribeye rare and the salad bar and everything was pretty darn awesome. Our waitress was great and made some really good recommendations. On the return trip I'll make sure to hit them up again!
google avatar

Yelp
Some of the best meat and BBQ style food we've ever had. My husband and I both got the Wagyu burger and it was a hit. Flavorful and the bun was the perfect touch. When you walk in, you immediately know you're in a small town family restaurant. It's cozy and clean, but definitely fits the western theme of Southern Utah. Servers were hustling and our server was attentive and quick. All the meat is smoked and all our food was piping hot when brought to our table! Quality home cooked food!!
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
We live in Kansas City so we are used to barbecue. The barbecued meats here blow away anything from KC. The pulled pork was perfectly cooked and the smoked brisket was the best I've ever had. Most surprising were the sides. I got pinto beans that were heavily spiced and spiked with bits of meat, and mashed potatoes that were homemade and blessed with some brown gravy. My wife raved about the cole slaw. Our server, Paula, was excellent. A big place with plenty of seats, and it looks like they are set up for music on their front porch. Oh, and the sauce was balanced with vinegar and sweet. I took it easy on the bbq sauce--just wetted the meat--because I didn't want to cover up the flavor. That would be a mistake!
google avatar

Yelp
I consider myself an amateur pit master and have eaten BBQ in just about every state. Most times I leave thinking it's good, but I do better. When it comes to ribs, I've met my match! The ribs here were the best I've ever eaten and I've eaten more than my share of ribs at many famous BBQ restaurants and at home. Hands down, these were the best I've ever eaten! Cooked and seasoned to perfection. No sauce required as the flavor was amazing. I might have to drive back there again from Georgia just to eat these again. They were that good! I now know what ribs I need to make to make "the best ribs in the world!" It's a high bar to achieve!
google avatar

Cami A.

Yelp
The food is fantastic. I had Country Fried Steak - one of the best I've had. Then the bread pudding! Yum. Quick device and kind people!

Monica And Gabe M.

Yelp
We ate here on a busy Saturday night, holiday weekend, packed packed! BUT, the food, the barbecue ribs and the cobbler was well worth the wait! AND, we had the BEST WAITER named Eli!! This young man literally saved us from leaving shortly after being seated! He was very efficient, courteous, hospitable and friendly! The restaraunt itself has a beautiful inviting atmosphere, cutest decor, but what really tied it all together for us, was ELI 110%!! This young man went above and beyond!! Thanks sincerely Eli!!!

Yelp
The food was okay, I think I expected more. The meat was pretty dry, and didn't have a lot of flavor. I felt like we had to drown it in barbecue sauce. The cowboy bites were pretty good but the center of them were all cold so it wasn't my favorite. I think my favorite food item was their bread and butter. The people who worked there were pretty nice.

Shelly D.

Yelp
The food was great. It was packed because of an event in town this weekend. The server was wonderful and friendly and came back and checked on us several times. Worth every penny and her name is Genny.

Yelp
You guys! I have lived in the same city as this restaurant for over 20 years and have never eaten there. Today my mom brought me some to go lunch. Holy freaking goodness, this is literally THE BEST PHILLY I've EVER eaten. It was real steak chunks, not shredded beef. Loaded with veggies and on a ciabatta roll instead of a hoagie. I literally cannot explain how amazing it was. Also got sweet potato fries as a side and they were excellent. Highly recommend!

Wendy C.

Yelp
This place was highly recommended by locals, and it was busy on a Monday night. The ribs are delicious with a hint of rich smoky smell, but everything else is mediocre. The wagyu burger was quite disappointing. The whole thing was hard, and wagyu shouldn't taste like that. The chef salad with chicken was very mediocre and nothing special. I didn't find the portion to be as big as expected. The sides were very small. Fresh vegetables have three pieces of broccolini. Mash potato was very blend and has zero taste. Staff is friendly but not attentive and very forgetful. She had to be reminded multiple times for things we requested. Overall, I think this place is a good option in Panguitch as there aren't that many options out there. Food and service was just mediocre.
google avatar

Pam B.

Yelp
Service was fine. Ordered bbq chicken that turned out dry. Beans good, coleslaw didn't have great flavor. Daughter had salmon & sweet potato fries that were cooked good. Tried their pork that didn't have full flavor or tenderness. Small town but not many choices.
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
We were walk-ins for dinner off the street and were immediately seated in a comfortable booth. We had the best cooked ribeye steak we've had in a long while and the service was great. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Smells amazing in here! Food took a while. Cowboy Philly (ordered with no onions). It was great! Sweet potato fries were amazing! Best SPF I've ever had. Patty melt Was good, Regular fries were good too.

Yelp
Staff is super helpful and kind. The pork is absolutely amazing. We had the quesadilla it was delicious!! Make sure and stop!

Yelp
Great food and great service. We would go back. The pulled pork was the real deal, tasty bun. Partner got something with mashed potato's and he really liked them.

Belle H.

Yelp
Amazing food! The food took a while but it was worth the wait. I loved the patty melt!

Liza S.

Yelp
Great service, acceptable ribs. Sausage was overcooked but baked potatoes were PERFECT. What I did not appreciate was a shirt one server was wearing. " Jesus is my savior, Trump is my President" Regardless of why I am offended, this is not inclusive and I won't go again.

Yelp
We stopped at the Cowboys Smokehouse Cafe after a visit to Bryce Canyon and it did not disappoint. Not only was the food delicious but the staff and service was wonderful. For an at home dining experience visit Cowboys Smokehouse cafe. You will not regret it!

Yelp
Amazing!!! First time here & will definitely be back! Pig tails appetizer is a MUST, chile verde actually had smoke & spice to it 10/10

Mike V.

Yelp
Having a 30 year career in the fire service and knowing a thing about smoked meats Mr. Perkins establishment has the best smoked meat. Not over smoked not under smoked and the meat melts in your mouth. Only downfall was I like random T shirts because I don't like common shirts over every one, but they didn't have any large shirts in stock. but the staff and food was great!! Mike V.
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
Pig Tails is a must!! The smoked meats were tasty and the bread pudding out of this world. Shout out to Robbie for teaching us how to say Panguitch.

Teagan S.

Yelp
This cutie little family run business is great. True hospitality, as they connect with their guests and treat them like friends. Even though they were super busy, and close to closing time, they accommodated us and were so kind!
google avatar

Mitch P.

Yelp
We are staying at a bed & breakfast here and before checking in decided to have a late lunch. It was busy and Ralph, the owner, set up a table of 8 for us, which was really nice. We all loved our different meals, portions very large and prices very fair. Later in the day and the next day we saw lines outside waiting to get in and we totally understand why. Ralph, the owner, was very friendly and accommodating to all our various requests for food.
google avatar

Yelp
This cute & friendly restaurant is great! They are BBQing & smoking the meats right outside! Everyone greeted us from the time we were outside to walking in the door. It appears as though they may have gone thru a recent remodel, it's very cowboy cute! There is something for everyone on the menu. My husband had a huge ribeye steak & I had the Wagyu Burger, we were both very pleased with our meals. He added the salad bar & came back with a huge salad, tons of items to choose from. I had never had a Wagyu burger, it was $18 but well worth the extra few bucks, OMG, it was excellent & the bun was so fresh! We had the apple cobbler w/ice cream, again, OMG, so delicious! We only in town for one night but our daughter & SIL live in Utah so we'll be passing by more frequently and will definitely be eating here again!

Chas T.

Yelp
Good pulled pork sandwich. Service was good. Soup of the day -clam chowder was good. Sweet potato fries were also yummy.

Sadie J.

Yelp
Great food and great staff! Super good vibes here, would definitely suggest and go again! We got the burger and pulled pork salad, both were fantastic. Peach cobbler is awesome, get it warmed! (Ps my husband says he's sorry for calling you Logan on accident Larsen haha)

Yelp
I've been driving through Panguitch on my way to Lake Powell for over 40 years. Panguitch was a gas stop. I never thought to eat there. This past fall, the family all happened to arrive in Panguitch at the same time; so we decided to give Cowboy's Smokehouse a try. WOW! I was blown away by the food and the service. The bacon-wrapped jalapeños appetizer was great. The pulled pork, ribs, and sides were cooked to perfection. The Pig Tails appetizer was massive and delicious. Don't just drive through Panguitch like I did for so long. Stop! Eat! Enjoy!

Yelp
Recommended by our hotel desk as the best place on town - we were not disappointed. Our server, Angela, was great - wonderful personality and helpful with the menu. If you like meat - this is your place!! I had the ribs, full portion. A touch on the dry side for me, but very tasty with a real Mesquite flavor. She had the Beef Ends platter - kinda like brisket - very, very good. The star of the meal was the blueberry cobbler. I will come back just for the cobbler, huge bowl with 2 scoops of ice cream - easily enough for 3 after a big meal. Only beer and wine - wish they had a full bar - that would be worth the 6th star. We will be back!!
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered 2 hamburgers they both were good They were super busy but the overall experience was great. I sure wish i could have got some Ribs but they don't serve that till after 4 pm

Yelp
What an excellent experience for dinner. Friendly staff and great food. Perfect spot in such a remote area. We're thankful they were there.

Yelp
This is about my 5th trip here, snd I'm always excited when we time it where there is no wait for a table. Between us, we ordered the chili, chicken poblano soup, a ribeye with baked potato and green beans. Their bread pudding is made with cinnamon rolls and brandy sauce. The chili is made with beans and lots of ground beef. I think they missed a great opportunity to throw some leftover smoked tri tip in their to make it worthy of the name of the restaurant. And this was the first time I was dissatisfied with my ribeye. It was a bit on the tough side. We had forks with the flat tines and a few pieces couldn't be picked up with the fork. The flavor was good and it was cooked perfectly. The soup and dessert were good. Still a favorite when we are in town. Service is great.
google avatar

Lester A.

Yelp
We had a fine meal of wild salmon. We didn't know what to expect but we were warmly greeted with a nice family atmosphere and a patient server who answered many questions from us by running back to ask the cooks! If you are in Panguitch as a visitor like us on our way between national parks, or a local, you will be well served at Cowboy Smokehouse.
google avatar

Sally P.

Yelp
My mom & I stopped here for brunch and shared the French toast and the veggie omelette. The food was delicious, much better than any diner we've been to. Our waitress was super sweet & friendly (congrats on expecting a sweet baby girl)! The cowboy themed decor was fun to look at as we waited for our meal. The only downside is that it's so far from our home in Phoenix! We'll definitely stop by the next time we're in Southern Utah.

Yelp
Cowboys Smokehouse Cafe came to the rescue for our hunger after staying a bit late at Bryce Canyon. We ordered several plates to share hoping to get it to-go but found out that they don't do to-go! No worries, they still let you sit down, enjoy a couple buttery dinner rolls, and then box up your fare as soon as it arrives. Some highlights of our choices included the chicken fried steak which was a surprise for me. Usually I find this dish to be a salt bomb but Cowboys Smokehouse Cafe does it real nice. The steak is thin but breaded and fried perfectly. We also ordered this with Cowboys' famed baked beans and coleslaw - both delivered on taste and texture! While we're talking about sides though, I also highly recommend the french fries and the baked yam. The fries were perfectly seasoned and had the perfect texture - crisp exterior, fluffy interior. The baked yam was like thanksgiving - carmelized, soft, and sweet. The only downer was surprisingly the baked potato which was on the dry side. For our other entrees, we got the brisket and hamburger. I totally recommend the brisket which was tender and delicious. It had a lightly smoked flavor which was also delightful. We forgot to squeeze some bbq sauce before leaving so oops (but it didn't really need it)! As for the hamburger, it's a solid 1/2 lb portion but I felt like the toppings weren't delivered in the best format (one long slice of pickle laid across the burger and was paired with 2 skinny slices of tomato and maybe 2 little rings of onion on either side. It was difficult to get a cohesive bite with everything in my opinion. The bun was also pretty..."bready" which didn't compliment the hamburger well in my opinion. For service, our waitress was very friendly but we were unfortunately hit with a looooooong wait for food (nearly 40 minutes) because of an adjacent large table's order. The menu isn't that extensive so I don't know if the kitchen was short or if there are some prioritization issues but it was pretty painful to wait that long for food that we also intended to make to-go. It admittedly threw off our plans by a bit. I did appreciate the gesture of giving us dinner rolls while we waited though. All in all, I would love to return and actually enjoy my meal fresh, hot, and not on the move. See you when I see you Cowboys Smokehouse Cafe!

Yelp
Terrible! Decided to give this place a try and it was a major disappointment! We ordered two filet minions medium well and they came out rare.... We didn't even eat one of them... The other one we had to ask them put back on the grill and by the time it came out all of the sides were cold. It was very disappointing and honestly a waste of time and money. I would say skip this place or sadly don't eat the meat here since they don't know how to cook their meat...

Rachel L.

Yelp
The food is very delicious! We ordered Pig Tail and New York steak. They're toasted by stove, really awesome! Pig tail is enough for 3, and the steak is fresh and tender! My boyfriend and I love them sooo much. We would definitely recommend this restaurant !

Yelp
This gem is in a old building on the main drag of Panguitch. They can be busy and the service is slow but friendly. The waitress was great, just had too much to do. Let me tell you though, the food makes up for any shortcoming. Our party of 5 had the rib-eye, meat platter, two green chili pork burritos and the kids Mac and Cheese. Everything was excellent. The meat quality, Smokey flavors, and cook temp were perfect. This place can outdo some Vegas steakhouses. I highly recommend if you have some time to burn and are gingery.
