Cowy Burger in Wynwood dishes up award-winning smash burgers with mouthwatering toppings like bacon jam and goat cheese, perfect for any hour of the day.
"The Miami internet algorithm is swarming with videos of angry fists crushing beef patties and slathering them with the same pinkish “secret sauce.” Mesmerizing, yes. But if you took these burgers and put them in a police lineup, we’d easily be able to spot Cowy's truly unique—and incredibly delicious—burgers. The former pop-up has found a permanent home in Wynwood, which means you can get their bacon jam smashburger every day now until 2am. Since they no longer work in tents outside, they’ve had a chance to expand their menu. Their smashburger-fueled brainstorm sessions (we’re assuming that’s how they do things) have led to new burgers topped with goat cheese and sweet potato, oozy mini tequeños, and parmesan croquetas with a side of fig sauce. Unlike other late-night spots in Wynwood, Cowy’s cheesy menu works at 12pm for a wholesome family lunch just as well as at 12am after a debauched night. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Regardless if your visit is after a run or after your mascara starts to run, the burgers will always have ultra crispy edges, a juicy center, and the kind of subtly sweet notes you can usually only find in expensive perfumes with misleading “eau de toilette” labels. Unlike other self-proclaimed smashburgers, you’ll never wonder if Cowy’s patties are indeed smashed. These burgers are thinner than your patience after waiting in line at the DMV. And while you could spend the day gawking over videos of questionable smashburger spots that are now ubiquitous in Miami, you should just go with the always glorious Cowy Burger. Food Rundown photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Cowy Bacon jam sounds like the name of a teenage punk band that should really focus on school instead. In reality, it’s the sweet and chunky formula that makes the Cowy burger our favorite one on the menu. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Carbo Croquettes The croquettes have parmesan and bacon in them, and they come with a side of fig sauce. It tastes like a charcuterie board and a standard ham croqueta fell in love and had a crispy, fried baby. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Tequeños Sure, you can have a plate of waffle fries to go with your burger. But a side of mini tequeños is even better. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Cabrito Layered with chorizo slices, stringy bits of fried sweet potato, goat cheese, and honey, it’s the kind of burger that should arrive in a cloche and be served by a butler who whispers the ingredients to you in a British accent. If your eyes twinkle when sweet and savory flavors come together, then order this. photo credit: CLEVELAND JENNINGS / @EATTHECANVASLLC Craver This is another original burger from Cowy’s pop-up days, and we’re pleased it’s here to stay. The chunks of tangy confit peppers arm wrestle with Cowy’s bacon jam. Neither side really wins. It’s a delicious forfeit." - Mariana Trabanino
"Where To Find Them: Usually every Sunday at J. Wakefield Brewing. Two words: bacon jam. That gloriously chunky ingredient, which is used liberally in the titular Cowy burger, makes this one of the absolute best smashburgers in Miami right now. And even the burgers without the bacon jam—like the craver covered with confit red peppers—are great. They’re a tad messy, but they give each burger a diaper-esque wrapping job that saves your lap from sauce drippings. Cowy also makes life easy on their fans by diligently posting upcoming pop-up schedules on Instagram." - ryan pfeffer, mariana trabanino
