The Best Dive Bars in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Culver City’s Cozy Inn lives up to its name: This is the cozy local spot to shoot pool, hang out with friends on the patio, or sip drinks under the twinkling lights inside. The wood panels, the dim lights, and the random wall decor makes it feel like a Midwest tavern. The jukebox is always filled with songs, and the drinks are cheap and flow fast — what else could one want from a classic Westside dive?" - Matthew Kang

Google
Cool bar, kinda hipster, great vibe, all ages of folks. There are a couple of pool tables and an excellent shuffle board. Which is the main attraction. It's a great spot. I'll be back

Google
Oh man so I want to love this place. Having been here many times there is a lot to like. Great staff, great atmosphere, all the makings of the perfect neighborhood bar. But it is super, surprisingly expensive? Woof. My first response to seeing the bill for a basic bourbon was “airport prices?” There is no menu so no way to know. A little notice would be nice.

Google
The bar where everyone knows your name. Fair warning if you’re a dingleberry they will ask you to leave to the great relief of everyone else. If you’re asked for ID, congratulations you look under 30 and a picture of it on your phone won’t be accepted. 2 pool tables, TouchTunes, darts, some kind of a golf or bowling game. The shining star is the vintage, regulation length shuffleboard table. Treat it with respect and you’ll be allowed to continue playing on it. Someone said they have strong drinks but I haven’t noticed 😋😉

Google
Cozy isn’t what it used to be. I dropped in on a Thursday night and was greeted by two unfriendly bartenders and a vibe that was completely off. To top it off it was $17 for one shot! What happened to Taylor? She actually cared about the customer experience. Whoever’s running things now seems to have lost that focus. Overpriced drinks and cold service, it’s an easy choice that I won’t be returning.

Google
Great little bar 2 pool tables. Some good players.

Google
My new favorite bar in Culver City! Great coffee and atmosphere! Great service and even better conversation!

Google
Decent dive bar with two billiard tables and a very long shuffleboard. The bartender was great with quick service. However, the price of drinks has gotten way too high for a dive bar like the Cozy Inn. A bottle of Miller High Life and Blue Moon cost $9 each. In some bars, you can get a well drink for less than that. I'd drink here all day but it's way too expensive to have more than a drink or two of basic beer.

Google
One of the better dive bars in town depending on your bartender.

Yelp
Local dive bar that's open most hours with great service! The Cozy Inn is open from 6 AM to 2 AM (the next day) !!! I've been here to watch the Olympics, post game, and pregame. They have a jute box where you can be the own DJ. They also have pool tables. One morning, 6 AMish, the bartender even ordered bagels for the whole bar! It was awesome! You can also DoorDash whatever food you desire and eat it there. Overall a great local spot where you can go kid hours of the day (or should I say night?)

Yelp
Never have I encountered a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. This is a great dive bar with many prices made to be as low as possible. Met some very interesting people it's a Culver City must go.
google avatar

Yelp
Super small place with limited parking.. Drinks were okay and the woman who works at the bar was the worst.. I would not recommend this place if you have to drive over here, but if you are the local, def a good place to hang out with your friends, watch a game, shoot pool and walk home.

Yelp
If you're looking for a place to get a few beers, avoid this place. Went there to play some pool and get a couple of beers. First thing I noticed was no draft beer. So we get a couple of bottles of 805. Play a few games of pool and get the bill. $42.00 for four beers. $10.50 for one bottle. Am l in Beverly Hills or what? I could buy a 12 pack for $12.00. I was shocked, with this being a dive bar and all. So unless you want to spend $10.00 for a bottle of beer, stay away!

Yelp
Come to the Cozy for good vibes, quick wit, pool, Golden Tee and the friendliest bartenders. Divey, neighborhood place where you can shoot pool and slide some shuffle board without worrying about tomorrow. Dont mess with Taylor, she will eat you up!

Yelp
Cozy ain't so cozy.... Life saver during the scamdemic... killer outdoor area- was sad to see it go. Added to that their best bartender Shannon is no longer there, prices are off the chart, and they don't even let you charge your phone, if you have your own charger. No thanks... better times at Cinema, Joxer, & Scarlet Lady in the hood!
google avatar

Mark S.

Yelp
We were asked about our absence, so we paid a visit. Prices hadn't been raised, nothing had changed, something in our experience was amiss . We are giving our beloved corner another go. Stay tuned.

Yelp
Cozy is the ultimate dive bar!!! The atmosphere is so chill. Today my husband and friend went there to change it up since we're working from home. The bartender Sheri Was great. She was very attentive, she played all the jams on the jukebox and she had a great attitude. She definitely made it easy to be working there. The vibes here are chill. There are pool tables, shuffleboard, good music & the drinks are not expensive at all. Definitely will be returning :-)

Kristin L.

Yelp
What a cute bar, super friendly service too. I loved it, a great find, I definitely will be back!

Yelp
Dope little dive bar nestled in amongst a bunch of car repair shops and a gas station. Low-key vibe, super casual, pool tables, darts, video golf, long hallway-style room with a wind flow that keeps it surprisingly cool. They don't have food, but allow you to order delivery and eat it at the bar. Inexpensive drinks, decent whiskey and bourbon brands, lots of beer choices (no drafts, only bottles). And a jukebox. Bartenders are all cool af, decent hard-working folk who have to put up with some serious LA attitudes and they manage the crowd like professionals. And OMG, it doesn't smell like a dive bar! Clean af, and the bathrooms even (for a dude bathroom to be reasonably clean at a dive bar is like winning the lottery.) Relax, have a good time, play some pool, and chill. Can't go wrong here.

Yelp
Everyone is saying prices are reasonable but it's came in for a beer and didn't expect to pay $10.50 for a cheap Estrella beer . This bar is a total dive bar and a cool bar but I don't know if I want to pay 10.50 a beer at 2pm on a Friday

Evan S.

Yelp
This place is awesome! It's my go to bar in LA. Taylor is the coolest bartender in the world.

Yelp
We were staying at a hotel across the street for the weekend and didn't realize this was a bar/pub, due to the name. When we finally figured it out, we decided to stop by. And I'm so glad we did, because I got to beat my bf in shuffleboard and darts multiple times (while learning how to correctly play darts too!). Win or lose, I'm just glad they have these great games here, as well as two pool tables, everything in fairly good condition, and a nice homey atmosphere overall. There was plenty of space, a couple small tables, and bar seating available on a Sunday night, and the bartender was attentive and helpful during our visit. Nice spot, good drinks, I'd return next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Great local "dive" bar. Friendly bartenders. Healthy pours at great prices. Late hours. Play your own music. What more do you need?
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
Great little dive bar in Culver City. Gems like this are few and far between these days. Cheap drinks, pool table, darts, cornhole boards out back. Definitely a great spot to come and hang with friends. They also have a jukebox you can control with an app on your phone. Great spot full of locals and I love it! They don't sell food but you can bring food in which is a plus. Right next to Tito's, Johnnie's, and Cinco de Mayo.
google avatar

Yelp
Best effin dive bar EVER!!!! I love it. I've been to a few dive bars but there's nothing coming here and feeling like Norm from Cheers Everyone is friendly so you should never feel out of place, even if you go by yourself.

Yelp
This place has horrible customer service. We were a group of about six of us who walked in at 11:30 PM. Right away, we got a super smear look from the bartender. We ordered a shot of tequila. Came out to $165.00 for six shots. It was gouging at its finest. The bartender barely spoke to us, was not friendly at all. I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue there. I'm tempted to go back just to give them a second chance, but then I better not. I refuse to let others take away my joy, especially a rude bartender. By the way, I am life long West Sider who will spread the "Word".

Yelp
I had wanted to find a small spot to hang out have a drink and play some pool. I have to say this is a chill little spot. Loved that they also have a shuffle board. Place was actually very clean. The bartender I didn't catch her name but she was definitely full of personality and brought good vibes. Knew the names of her regulars. Music selection wasn't my favorite there. But I would definitely come back. Parking lot is small so you may have to park on the street. As far as pricing goes it's pretty general for what you spend at most bars. Not overly priced either. If you happen to want to pay cash they do have an ATM machine inside. Overall a good experience.

Yelp
This is the ultimate dive bar. If you are looking to dress up and go to a fancy club, go elsewhere. This is the place that opens early in the day for those that want to play pool and drink and drink and drink some more. The people that go there are all local, but they welcome visitors. They have cheap drinks and getting some whiskey there is what you want to do, just don't assume they have the most expensive whiskey in town, they don't. This is a place to relax and have fun. Enjoy.

Yelp
I've had this spot on my list of bars to dry for a while. I'm so glad that I finally made it here! It's an awesome dive bar! I came here because I was looking for a bar playing a particular sports game -- the U.S. Open. Luckily, there are multiple TVs that were each playing different things (apparently, there was also a baseball game on at the same time), so we didn't need to worry that we wouldn't be able to watch the tennis match. The few people around us who were also watching tennis were very friendly and low-key. They don't have any beers on tap, and a limited selection of bottled beers, but they did have an IPA, so I was satisfied with their beer selection. The drinks are stiff! We got a few shots along with the beers -- WOW, those are way more than a single shot. They have heavy pours. They have a large, spacious outdoor area with a combination of smaller high-top tables and some larger tables. It was drizzling that evening, and it was great that they had tents covering the tables. I also really liked the vibe and the crowd. We chatted and played card games with some of the other people there -- everyone was really nice and not pretentious at all (which is a relief since I live in Santa Monica, so I'm used to a different, snootier crowd). It felt like this bar is frequented by "real" and chill people! Definitely plan on coming back here!

Yelp
OMG! Drool Katie works every Thursday 12-6pm and makes the best COCO-Cozy Margaritas. She loved squeezing that coconut syrup and shaking those shakers so much. It's like "Are we in Hawaii?! I think, FORREALS!" If you're into legs, also 12/10 stars but the coconut imo is so much better.

Douglas A.

Yelp
This used to be my go to place all the time pre-Covid. I went and met a friend there two nights ago and paid $7.50 for a bottle of Miller highlife. I could go to an expensive restaurant bar and it wouldn't be that much. So much for the cozy, goodbye.
google avatar

Rajnecia T.

Yelp
Great hidden gem to just go to with a group of friends and get drunk.lol The bartenders are nice
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
Great dive bar. Good people. Hit or miss on the bartenders. Same to be said with the clientele. Definitely worth checking out but not always worth staying for more than one or two.
google avatar

Cliff H.

Yelp
Taylor might be the best bartender I've ever met. The morning shift might be the best time to hit the cozy.
google avatar

Mario M.

Yelp
If you like dive bars...this is the place. Great old school, dark atmosphere. Bartenders are friendly and pour good, heavy drinks. This place is walking distance from the legendary Johnnie's Pastrami. It's also very close to Venice Beach.
google avatar

Julia D.

Yelp
Such a fun little dive bar. The bartender is so sweet and nice. The drinks are strong! But not only that they have tons of games to play. It's a bit pricy with white claws running you $9 for one but honestly the vibes there are just fun and relaxed. Definitely a fun place
google avatar

Thomas H.

Yelp
Seriously, what is up with surly bartenders who constantly monitor people coming in for a few drinks? They literally have a stupid 86 system which I can't stand. Even if you mind your own business, they're still going to look out to judge you by your face. Figure if you over serve (which they openly admit) you're going to have an audience like this. That's a major double standard - not worth it.
google avatar

Fatima H.

Yelp
Dillon made me the best ever Lemon drop I've ever had. He was quick and courteous. The ambiance was great. Definitely would recommend this bar. Thank you Dillon!

sherry j.

Yelp
Awful, lazy bartenders who anticipate being busy while both are standing around. It is a local spot with mediocre service and horrible customer service. If you like the bottom-of-the-barrel service, come here.
google avatar

Myla M.

Yelp
If there is one thing that I love is a good dive bar! So, I fired up Yelp and found this place. It sounded and looked promising! So, I decided to meet a friend here. So glad I did! It was perfect. The right combination of the territorial funny/cool regulars. Who ever put music on the jukebox picked all the right tunes. Of course, when Prince came on, I was totally won over...just when I thought that things couldn't be any cooler...I saw they they have a mega touch machine! I haven't seen one since my favorite dive bars in Illinois...so of course, I had to play! The bartenders are attentive and make great drinks. Cozy Inn is on my list of favorites. I have been back a few times. It's clean for a dive, which I like, but you can tell that locals hang out there. This is not a "Hollywood" bar...this is a pool table, dart, shuffle board bar with cool people. I like it and will be back!
google avatar

George Vreeland Hill ..

Yelp
This Cozy Inn lives up to its name. Great drinks and a great staff. You can't beat the decor and the experience. To me, it's the best bar/club in Culver City. George Vreeland Hill

Yelp
Met the king of cozy tonight, it was so kewl! Bartender Chris was the prince of cozy!
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
Passed by for the drinks & the pool table, and this little spot surprised me in the best way. Everyone is so friendly. I wish I got our bartenders name, she was working the AM shift on Sunday of Labor Day weekend. She was extremely welcoming and gave great service. Such a cute little spot will definitely be back!
google avatar

Ash J.

Yelp
Great dive bar, can't believe it took me so many years to check it out. Fun games inside and nice little breezy patio outside. I will say I was very surprised when I got the check and my 2 modelos, 1 805, and 1 corona were each $9, but the tequila soda was $7! :O it's okay, I'll be back, just know your bottled beer might be overpriced. nice people and good time!

Connor V.

Yelp
This place is horrible. We had a birthday party planned but the Bartenders swore at our party and were extremely combative it was bizarre. If I could give this place 0 stars I would.

Cade H.

Yelp
Bartender swore at our party and then threatened our group after we provided ID. Ruined entire birthday party claiming another group was coming in but we were that group. Weird vibes - very combative. Would not recommend under any circumstances

Mckenna F.

Yelp
If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Super unprofessional staff and extremely rude bartenders for absolutely no reason. Don't waste your time at this horrible bar

James H.

Yelp
Chris and Matt where our bar tenders tonight, they were super attentive, they where funny but still professional though Thank you for a great night!
google avatar

Ricky R.

Yelp
Good drinks better atmosphere 101/109 would recommend. I'm writing this rn because yelp wont let me post this unless this review has a certain amount of letters

Lionel H.

Yelp
It's an okay bar better than most if you are looking for a dive jn LA. Was not into price points ($8 coors lights?) and lots of hypermasculinity with the staff and the clientele and almost no spatial intelligence to match with it. Industry folks get thick pours of drinks, everyone else gets shuttled around and mean mugged.

Nohely G.

Yelp
Discriminatory experience at this bar. They don't accept international IDs, and aggressively kicked us all out.
google avatar

Ross P.

Yelp
A true bar. Strong drinks and friendly staff make this a place I will return to time and time again. No frills. Just fun. Drive 20 minutes north to WeHo or Beverly Hills if you're looking for something fancy. See you at the pool table.
google avatar

Kayla U.

Yelp
Really great dive bar in the area! The crowd ranges from locals to a younger crowd because everybody can get behind cheap but strongly poured drinks! Seriously great. They have pool, shuffle board, darts, some arcade games which is really fun and adds to the vibe of the place. Awesome spot to come with friends and hang out

Regina L.

Yelp
This place was the worst place I have ever experienced. I'm 28 years old and came here with friends who were all 25+. I requested water for me and my friends, and the bartender threatened me asking for ID to give my friends water. Me and my boyfriend showed ID to get ourselves each a glass of water. Since my friend (age 25) was on the patio, I told the bartender "don't worry about her drink" because she was going to share water with me. An employee came outside to the patio to demand my friends ID FOR WATER, WHICH HE DID NOT EVEN BRING OUT, and even swore at us. Don't ever come here unless you want to be treated horribly.

Gina A.

Yelp
Super fun bar! Bartenders are friendly and the crowd was a great mix! Love the jukebox too

Chris M.

Yelp
The new girl who works in the morning with the short hair is the worst. Bad attitude.

Claudia M.

Yelp
I wish I can rate it less. Horrible experience. Shoutout to the bartender who cursed at my friend for asking for water.

Justin K.

Yelp
Thief on tap. Went for a beer last night. Matt, the bartender, told me a beer costs $5. I gave him a 10 and asked for change for pool. He gave me $2 in quarters and ignored me for the rest of the night.
