I love the maple bacon donut. Crave it. I want this store to win. Really do
Okay... pros.
1. Great tuna. Great bagels. Great cortado.
2. There's three tables inside that you can do work at.
3. Right in the heart of the arts district.
4. Customer service is good BECAUSE I'm a regular. I seriously come here 3-4 times a week with my puppy.
Cons
Only two employees speak English. I'm well versed in broken English, so communication should be no issue. But they ignore you and their understanding of the job shows. It's like they were thrown in there. 6am-10am is not the time to train employees during your busiest times
They aren't efficient. You're a coffee shop, not a diner. It's a family owned place, so you'll often see mom and pop. We love you mom and pop, but the more business you get, the more you should realize you need help. waiting 30 minutes for a coffee, with no lines nor customers, is absurd, and I guess it says more about me. But I truly enjoy supporting small business rather than heading 3 minutes in the other direction to Starbucks. I used to also think it was admirable how feisty the mom was, but now I see it's more so leaning on the unprofessional side.
Todays review is a based off the fact that I ordered my food ahead on Yelp, a whopping 35 minutes ahead. I walked there, so add on some more time. A coffee, a donut and a tuna bagel.
Two days ago I went in for an iced cortado and it took him 19 minutes to make it. I saw a newer employee in there so I didn't trip. I watched him train her and I waited patiently. The cortado tasted nothing like my normal, (mom usually makes my normal) but being in the service industry, I knew it happens. And that eventually the new employee will get to know me! So I let it slide. No biggie.
But today, I knew I had work so I ordered ahead to avoid allll of this. I get there and they're like, we didn't start your order because you asked for tuna on the side.
LOL. Huh??? You could have made the coffee, boxed the donut and made the bagel and just waited till I arrived to slap the tuna on and I would have been out the door. I had 19 minutes to be at work and I timed it all perfectly. Giving them time to make my order and let it sit, ultimately waiting for me. Ended up having to cancel the order because they had a line and it was clear Billy was flustered.
Customer service and hospitality is depressing now because the simple response is, you don't have to dine here. You don't have to support here. No accountability? We've never had an issue in the past, and I'm a huge tipper?
Neighborhoods help each other. They don't take a snarky attitude with others who frequent their business when they give needed criticism. So hopefully you take this with a grain of salt, as I do frequent this store a lot and share it with all of my friends.
