With my nephews just recently wrapped up going to train camp down the road (at the Southeastern Railway Museum), we have surely spent a lot more time than usual in the Downtown Duluth area, which isn't a bad thing at all.
When walking along the little strip, we saw this cute little pie shop, along with a real familiar face- one of my dear friends that I went to culinary school with many moons ago (the difference is she is much more disciplined and talented than I am, and actually finished school) works here! Her name is Tiffany, and if you see her, tell her I said hello!
I like this place for a few reasons- it is bright and open, and not terribly hot for a bakery (however I am sure that is not the case earlier in the day). There are also seats so you can sit down and eat (they also have drinks for sale too). The pies come in a 5 inch size, and a 10 inch size. I also heard of a mini pie, but I did not see them.
If you are just coming in from the street, it is pretty much what they have available is at the counter. You can get custom orders with a 1-2 day notice (I guess depending on the size and quantity of your order). For me, I decided to get 3 5ers and a 10er (which I got from the mini fridge on the customer side of the counter)- a key lime, chicken pot, a blueberry buttermilk, and the big one was a chocolate bourbon pecan. That totaled to a little over $50. May seem pricey, but it was good old fashioned hand made pies, fresh.
Also in the store, they have shirts and other goodies for sale. Since I had my nephews with me, I had to make it quick, before they burned the place down. So, unfortunately, my first visit here was quick, the flavors from the pies will last much longer.
I cooked the CPP on 350 for about 40 min that night, and it was amazing, with the crust and seasoning, and all. Then, I had the KLP. That didn't stand a chance. Mom had the BB, and loved it.
I just drove up to Charlotte for the weekend to see my sis and I brought the BCP pie, and I baked it (from frozen) on 350 for 20 minutes. We ate 7/8 of the pie, before dinner. One thing I noticed consistently, was how damn good the crust was on all of the pies.
They have a lot of options available here, and so I definitely need to go back and try some other pies, because so far with me, they are batting .1000!
