We learned a surprising thing on our recent road trip to Baton Rouge for a crawfish boil with some local friends. Apparently, there's a notable difference between the food in Northern Louisiana and Southern Louisiana. For a northeasterner like me, this distinction seemed overstated, like a college rivalry. But dang, the food in Lafayette and baton Rouge is for real. Shreveport? Ehhhh, we had a hard time finding choices with the same Cajun goodness.
Enter Crawdaddy's kitchen, our second attempt to find great local Cajunness. The atmosphere was right as was the menu. The food just didn't wow. I ordered the Shrimp Monica Fettucine, a creamy Cajun pasta dish with shrimp that lacked potency. Boudin Egg Rolls seemed like they might be interesting, but reminded us of eggrolls from a Chinese Buffet stuffed with Boudin. Flavorful, but idk it just didn't quite work.
Service was good and atmosphere fine (though it was freezing cold). It's location near the highway was convenient for us as we were traveling through. Others have given higher reviews and maybe we picked the wrong menu items. Or, maybe Crawdaddy's is representative the food in this part of the state!
