Crazy Johnnie’s Owner Johnnie Schram Dies | Eater New Orleans

"Founded and owned by Johnnie Schram, who died Monday morning at 76 after a long illness, the beloved Crazy Johnnie’s ultimately closed its doors in the summer of 2014. What began as a bar added a very popular steak night in the ’90s and soon became best known for budget-friendly, quality meat — especially cheap steaks and filet mignon po‑boys. After three decades, sharply rising prices for quality cuts of beef forced the restaurant to shutter." - Stephanie Carter

Crazy Johnnie’s Steakhouse never disappoints! The food is always cooked perfectly — you can tell they use quality cuts and know exactly what they’re doing on the grill. The steaks come out juicy and flavorful every single time. The atmosphere has that classic New Orleans-style charm, and the staff makes you feel like family as soon as you walk in. If you’re looking for a place that still knows what real steak is supposed to taste like, this is it. Great service, great drinks, and worth every penny. Definitely the best steakhouses around!

Definitely one of the best steakhouses in New Orleans. From the atmosphere to the service to the quality of the food. I’ll definitely be back! So glad Crazy Johnny’s is back. They’ll be hosting my party next month, and I couldn’t be more excited!

I lived in Fat City earliy 2000 and used to love this place. When I was back in town and saw they reopened. It didn't not disappoint. Great food Prime Rib still my go to. Dipping bread mmmm and cold beer

Took my son here for his birthday, the barbecue shrimp better than Manale’s. We actually ordered a second one. We filled up so much on appetizers, were fantastic. entrées were generous, comfortable environment, really great service, us and checked on us. Awesome experience. Great place to watch the game.

First time I’ve ever been to crazy Johnny’s. I had a shrimp Poboy with crazy potatoes and an iced tea. I like the iced tea and the crazy potatoes. When I saw the poor boy, I was anxious about the fact that the shrimp was huge, but surprisingly they weren’t rubbery and had a nice texture and flavor to them. The bread was not a traditional New Orleans French bread, which I love with a poor boy, but it wasn’t bad. The only negative I have is that half my lettuce was brown or black and it’s a good thing. I noticed if I took a bite. And yes, I will return there.

The food is delicious, and you can tell it is great quality. We had the crab cakes, crab au gratin, bbq shrimp, filet and poboy. Everything was 10/10. The staff was also very friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is very inviting. I love the new look of the interior and it is super clean. So glad this restaurant has made its return!

Went there to celebrate my birthday. We had a table of 9. The appetizers and drinks were great. Somewhere in the evening, our food got lost. I spoke to the manager, who was very kind. Our food was brought out with 15 minutes of my speaking to the manager. 7 of us had the steak sandwich and potatoes, one had the hamburger and one had a shrimp dish I believe. My food, which was the sandwich, came out last and it was not even warm. I didn't say anything and just had a few bites of it and took it home. I was very excited about going here for my birthday but really disappointed with the entrée. The staff were very kind, but the service and food temperature need some additional work to bring the dining experience up to par. Not sure if I will return or not.

So glad to see Crazy Johnnie's finally reopen! We started with the signature dipping bread, then enjoyed the Prime Rib and the Redfish topped with their delicious house-made sauce--everything was full of flavor and cooked just right. The atmosphere is welcoming to all. With seating inside and outside.
