Okay I finally get it, pancakes and waffles can be served without syrup, but only when the fruit is fresh and the cream is premium. Honestly, it's wild, I switched to preferring cream after eating here, so we need to talk.
Honestly, I can't say I'm a big fan of the atmosphere. Keeping in mind my visit was close to Christmas, I simply couldn't get my head wrapped around the color palette, as the whole place was covered on pastels. Although, I didn't really like the vibe, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so take this part of my review with a grain of salt.
Beyond the pastels, the place came off as "antique-y," which might make the younger crowd feel a little out of place. If anything, I was expecting rustic, but the atmosphere doesn't have anything to do with the food, so let's move on.
The service was good, nothing exceptional, but nothing below expected quality, it was exactly what you would expect. I wish there was more to it, but you can't really fault a restaurant for being exactly on target with the service, and I'm not looking to. It was good.
The food is where this place shines, as any restaurant should, and that will always be the core of my review. To be fair, I didn't really understand the name of the restaurant until after I sampled the cream. "It's like the first time you heard the Beatles." 😂😂😂😂
In the past, I've been pretty vocal about foreign restaurants that don't get why Americans leave bad reviews when eating pancakes and waffles, but it generally has to do with the amount of syrup that is available, or the needs to applied.
Internationally, most places don't put syrup on pancakes, so the quantity available is usually insufficient for American taste (mainlanders in this case), or they are served with a caramel sauce or cream, completely changing the expected flavor. In this case it was cream.
This is the first time I've ever tasted cream that's sweeter than syrup. It was wild, and it made me rethink all of the other attempts I'd seen to pull this off. The food was magnificent, and the cream was the star. It also made me appreciate how hard it is to pull off, and creates a bit of sympathy for other restaurants that try unsuccessfully.
If you're in the mood for great flavors that are only enhanced by the taste of sweet cream, I can honestly say, I've had nothing better. It's a must try on my list.
