The Best Bars in Athens | Eater Atlanta

"Born and bred in the Classic City, Creature Comforts is hands down one of the best spots in Athens for craft beer, and not just because everyone’s obsessed with Tropicália. This juicy, citrusy IPA is a local legend, but the brewery’s lineup goes far beyond that, with crisp lagers, creative sours, and bold seasonal releases always on tap. Housed in a converted tire shop, the space has a cool, industrial vibe that sets it apart from your average close-shouldered college bar. It’s a go-to for beer lovers who want something a little more craft on gameday, or any day of the week." - Sarah Bisacca

"Crave Curiosity at Creature Comforts Brewery No longer content with the dive bars and fraternity hangouts, Creature Comforts Brewery was opened in 2014 in a refurbished tire warehouse. The brewery has become a popular spot with students and townies alike for their unique brews, including the sour Athena and strong Tropicalia. It's also the best place to try their seasonal and special batches, like Koko Buni. Creature Comforts hosts weekly farmers markets in their parking lot, as well as local events. The tasting room and tours are open Tuesday to Friday from 5 to 8 pm and on Saturdays from 1 to 4 pm. Grab a table and some friends and spend the afternoon people watching on West Hancock."

3 Best Day Trips from Atlanta

"There are plenty of reasons to visit Creature Comforts Brewing Co. in downtown Athens. First, beer aficionados will likely know it for its Tropicália IPA, which has had a cult following since it was released in 2014. Secondly, you can’t miss the massive brewery and tasting room, built into a refurbished Chevy dealership and auto shop, built in the 1940s. The founders kept everything they could from the old building, including garage doors that create an indoor/outdoor bar and tasting room, exposed beams, concrete floors, and reclaimed wood (after which they named one of their signature beers, Reclaimed Rye). And, though this is a brewery, it's also become a favorite local bar." - Jennifer Bradley Franklin

Housed in a former tire shop, this locally grown brewery helped put Athens beer on the map. Southern Living frequently recommends it, and current hours show the taproom is going strong.

Google
Good brewery! I’ve visited a couple times and it never disappoints. Creature Comforts is one of the Georgia big four along with Terrapin, Sweetwater, and Monday Night. I never order anything I can find in stores. Good location, friendly staff, and a solid mojo. Creature Comforts and Normaltown are the spots to visit when in Athens.

Rich Waldis

Google
Bluntly stated, this is the BEST brewery I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. And I love to visit breweries where ever we go. While it may not top the list in every category, it is either at the top or close to it in terms of beer variety, quality and taste of each beer, location is unbeatable and the vibe of the venue is outstanding. The service is great too. The only downsides I can think of: no food options (plenty close by) and not open enough hours!

Adrienne Lashley

Google
Tried the Neon Cylinder and the Flash Cat, preferred the Neon Cylinder but both were good. Walkable from the hotel, which is great. Would recommend!

Google
The Bee's Knees frozen cocktail was delicious. Lemon, honey, gin. Lots of seating indoor and outside, fun spot

Google
This place was nice looking and clean. But they didn’t have a delicious beer selection. My wife tried three and finally settled on one that she disliked the least. There was not much for a non beer drinker. Food comes from a food truck. They sell lots of kitschy items and take home apparel. We went hoping to. It a pint glass. But since they only sell 10oz or 16 oz drinks, there were no classic pint glasses available.

Google
Ive been wanting to come here for a while and finally made it. The beer is great, the service is great, and there are a ton of options for seating. Patrons all around were having a great time and everyone was friendly. I'll definitely be back to try more. Highly recommended.

Google
Excellent stop in the Athens area, great vibe and atmosphere at this brewery. Beer is excellent and covers a lot of ground as far as styles (almost guaranteed you'll find one you like). Large indoor area, brewery tours regularly throughout the day and large outdoor area with lawn games, fire pits and plenty of seating. Staff is great here, willing to share their knowledge of the company and its craft. If you're in Athens and a beer fan (or even if you're not) it is most definitely worth the stop.

Google
Breweries are no longer uncommon, especially in lively and nuanced towns like Athens. So, to shine, breweries must have remarkable beer and a unique vibe. With a broad selection of high quality beer, dim lighting, and droning music, Creature Comforts checks all of these boxes. Being from out of town, I stumbled upon this place by asking a random student of UGA which brewery would be considered the ‘can’t miss’ spot in Athens. Without hesitation, he said Creature Comforts. Clearly, the students here have exceptional taste.

Yelp
Big space and they are big on supporting local community. They have farmer's market on Wednesday evenings but i havent gotten the chance to go yet. The drinks are nice. Bathroom clean. Lewis at the front is very helpful!

Yelp
The brewery is massive with a nice clean indoor space and outdoor patio. Dogs are allowed outdoors only so please be mindful when bringing them in the heat. There are a few fans outside. This was a quick spontaneous trip so I only had one bear which was the Tsunduko which is their Japanese rice lager. I was craving a z Kieran so this was the perfect cool crisp beer to satisfy that craving. The staff was very friendly. The gentleman at the checkin was informative of the area and recommended some food places as Creature Comforts does not sell food (though they have food trucks occasionally.) 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
I am not a brewery kind of girl but I must say this place was very nice. My niece and brother loved it and their beers. What I do appreciate is that they had something that I could drink other than their beer or water. They have a little gift store and we picked up a cute little baby outfit. It was Fathers day and my brother got a free beer. The place is spacious and lots of light. We got there at 1:45 pm and by 2:30 the place was full. We were allowed to order food and have it dropped off. We had a great time.

Yelp
Overall: really spacious indoor and outdoor seating/ open bar areas. The beer selection is wide ranging but also insanely good. Even have a few specialty drinks! Service: you walk in and they check your ID/can put your card on the tab. Then you walk up to either of the counters indoor/outdoor to grab your beer. Surprisingly not too busy on a beautiful Saturday but plenty of reason to go back to try different beers!

Yelp
My favorite brewery in Athens! Large variety of beers that change often enough to try something new when you come. Big fan of the neon cylinders. All the bartenders I've met are super friendly and helpful with recommendations. There's a ton of indoor and outdoor seating (with some heaters). Parking can be kind of tricky, but there are some cheap places if you're willing to walk a few blocks.

Yelp
Came here for the Athens farmers market and was pleasantly welcomed. The ambiance was great- there was live music that was suitable for all ages in a neo funk soul style. There was a great taco truck as well as other fares to enjoy. You get a meal "dollar" for every beer purchase too! I recommend the chocolate chip cookies from the bakery vendor. Also, the Tropicalia IPA was a standout! I would definitely return and try more seasonal drinks.

Yelp
What a fabulous place!! Now while there is not food for sale there may be a food truck in proximity or their amazing farmer's market!!! I have never seen such amazing vegetables on shelves in years! But the brewery... gorgeous yet very large. It seemed family friendly but again it was during the farmers market also. They have a great selection and merch for sale. I got the flight. They are up there as far as good local beers that everyone should know.
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
Just like the sign says- GOOD COLD BEER. Perfect for groups! If you walk in and go to the back bar, you are able to "make your own" beer and add flavoring to it- really fun!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Creature Comforts Brewing for such a long time! Of course part of that is wanting to go to Athens as well for it's rock music background (R.E.M., B-52's). I know those band's heyday are past but the desire to go remains. At last I did get a hold of some Creature Comforts beer(got a small taste of Athens but not enough. Another time.) Awaken, My Love was the beer I had from Creature Comforts. An Imperial Stout with chocolate, cinnamon and coffee flavors. This beer was so good. I rate beers on Untapped and I issued a five star rating which is very, very rare for me to do! That tells you just how much I loved this beer! Unfortunately I didn't get to try anything else (Awaken, My Love did have a 13% ABV) but I'm pretty confident that any of this brewery's beer would be excellent since I was in such awe with the one I had!

Yelp
Went to Athens for a beer event. Stopped in at a number of local breweries. This one was on my list. Asked for a flight. They will do 5 oz pours. They don't do flights cause they don't have the flight holders. (A small tray would do fine) Or the "paper and stuff to write it down". Really??? Maybe try an erasable pen on the 5 oz glass? So 5 oz pours it was. Since they're not dog friendly inside. Even though they have concrete floors and no food we had to sit outside in the cold with our dog. And walk back and forth to get two 5oz pours as we drank them. No little glass holders.... Smh We thought ok, they have lots of heaters on their huge covered patio and tvs to watch the nfl playoff game. Tried to start up 2 of the heaters, but they wouldn't stay lit. Since no one comes outside to check on you, we tried about 6 heaters. All but one were out of gas. That one ran out after about 20 minutes. Went inside to see if they had extra tanks, and wouldn't ya know there's a tank storage out back with about 20 tanks. You'd think someone could replace the empties. Then it's game time. I think there were 6 large screen TVs outside. They had basketball on. So once again we went back inside, and asked if they could put a tv on the play off game. They said no, that the basketball was a finals game too and we could go to "one of the many other sports bars in the area if we wanted to watch football " Wow, ok, bye then! We went around the corner to a tiny place called Normaltown Brewing. Not only did they have the game on their 2 big TVs over the bar, but it was on even though they were having a private neighborhood meeting with lots of people inside. And were dog friendly and helpful even though they were packed! Id also suggest going to any brewery in the area other than creature comforts just like the employee suggested. Actually they should change their brewery name to creature uncomforts!!!!

Yelp
Cool brewery that captures the essence of the University nearby. Frat houses, Dawg statues large screen sporting events (football) and really cold delicious craft beer in downtown Athens. I enjoyed the Feel Free, bursting with flavor and just the right chill. I sampled the Imperial Trop Haze. It was a great a IPA but I only had time for one brew this day.
google avatar

Nadia A.

Yelp
Lots of space inside and out, large variety of beers and customizable flights. I visited on a Saturday nights and they had live bands playing outside. Great for groups or casual past by. My fav was the neon cylinder. It has a sour twist.

Yelp
Creature Comforts is a great local brewery located in downtown Athens within easy walking distance of nearby restaurants as well as the Iconic 40 Watt Club. Creature Comforts puts out numerous very good year round and seasonal brews. My favorites are their Classic City Lager and their Tropicalia India Pale Ale. A friend who lives in town knows I generally hate IPAs, but recommended it nevertheless. I'm glad he did. Once I tried it, I ordered it at lots of places around town. Food is not served, but food trucks set up shop on the grounds often from what I'm told, and there was a food truck on site when we visited on a Sunday afternoon. The tap room is very nice with lots of seating, and their is a nice, spacious covered patio for those who enjoy sitting outdoors. The staff were welcoming and friendly. It's a good place I will happily return to when I'm in Athens again next year. Cheers!

Yelp
I like this place. Great atmosphere. They have a farmers market on certain nights. Live music. I like how they run a tab for you as soon as you get there. Makes it easy. I had a soda. Strawberry habanero. I liked the little bite at the end. I'm a fan

Yelp
Really not a fan of having to do street parking, the chaos of entering the establishment, that they take your card even before you go in, and the lack of menus available to select your beer. Beer is also almost triple the price of the other breweries. The beer is good, but I would opt for somewhere else.
google avatar

Nick D.

Yelp
Creature Comforts is the best brewery I've ever visited. This place is the absolute gem of Athens, GA, and it proves that an establishment in a semi-rural, southern college town can compete with the best of the best anywhere else in the world. Every single beer is delicious, it's incredibly affordable, the ambience is cool and sophisticated, and the service is solid even though it's always packed. If the management reads this, please keep doing what you're doing and innovating new, fun brews. I'll be your advocate forever. Lastly, I beg you Creature Comforts... BRING BACK GAUCHO DE LA PLAYA it's my all time favorite beer

Yelp
August 23, 2020 After visiting Fainting Goat Vineyard last month--the owner is a partner in this brewery---it only made sense to pay tribute to his ownership interest in Creature Comforts Brewing while we were visiting Athens. Upon entering our host asked for a credit card at the greeting table to minimize contact during COVID times, which was good. Our host led us to a table outside on a hot summer afternoon and we ordered a couple of IPAs: I had the Lupulous, and Nicole the Tropicalia. The outdoor seating area is fantastic with several tables under an amazing wooden canopy. There is also a large beer hall indoors which was not currently being utilized. The beers were great and helped us develop an appetite for dinner. Look forward to coming here again to try some of the other offerings.

Yelp
We had a great afternoon at Creature Comforts. The staff was very friendly. We got there right at opening and opened a tab. They had many options of beers along with "fusion" drinks to chose from. I ended up trying a few with a flight. The layout of the brewery is very open and industrial. They also have an outdoor area with games to play while you drink. There is plenty of sitting room if you go with a group and smaller tables if you are on a date. There is a little store off from the tasting area where you can purchase cold beer to go and clothing items. We will definitely be back when we return to Athens!
google avatar

Yelp
I've always loved Creature Comforts breakout beer, Tropicalia. So when I had the opportunity to stop through Athens for the afternoon, I had to hop on it. Prices aren't cheap compared to other breweries I've been to, but the menu is vast and the taps are plentiful. I especially liked the selection of mixed beer drinks, also known as "The Curiosity Bar" menu. I tried the Athena Infusions and finally got my hands on Tritonia. The interior of the brewery is well lit and HUGE! There are two bars you can get your drinks from - and a gift shop where you can pick up Creature Comforts schwag. I bought a Creature Comforts tank, which was made on a super soft American Apparel tee. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Athens!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to get a casual beer in Athens. A very chill place that you can hang out at for a while and enjoy the outside. The menu is pretty large and they will let you try all the different kinds of beer. There are plenty places to sit even when it's busy and they have a great atmosphere.

Jarrod F.

Yelp
The ambiance was fantastic! Great entertainment and loved the vibe. Did t get any food but had plenty of drinks and the area was set up well.
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere at Creature. They have a pavilion for outdoor seating. The beer is just not my favorite. We had a flight with Pearson, Rhonda, Common Things, and Tastes Like Flowers, and we really didn't like any of them. Tropicalia is their really popular beer, but it's too hoppy for me. My husband got the Athena Paradiso: Passion Fruit & Guava, which was just okay. My brother-in-law got Automatic and he said it was fine. Their beer is also pretty expensive, relative to other breweries. It's a fun place to chill in downtown Athens. It's certainly more convenient and central than the other breweries in Athens, but in my opinion, it doesn't have the best beer.
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
Too many good beers to list but this place is worth a visit. Lots of seating, indoors and outside. We went on a night they had a farmers market too. It feels like a place you must visit if you're in the Athens area.
google avatar

Megan W.

Yelp
Loved this place! The lady at the door (Katherine) was funny and very inviting. The beer was very good (one of the specials on the back, can't remember the name). The inside was cute but I loved the outside for a nice day. There was a lot of dogs which was so nice. I would definitely come back here for a nice afternoon out.
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
On our trip to Athens, my husband was told to check out this brewery. We had some good inside information. We sat out side although I did see maybe two tables inside. It was very covid aware. We had a nice seat in the shade and enjoyed an ipa each. Two different types. They were both good. We only had a limited time and had to drive but I could have stayed and knocked back another one. Or three....
google avatar

Amy K.

Yelp
What a great brewery in the heart of Athens!! My friend and I stopped here while on a recent visit to the area and felt the need to definitely check this place out while brewery hopping. It was game day in Athens but we arrived at a quieter hour. It's in an old Michelin Tire building which was cool. The brewery is large and can accommodate many so if you want to bring a big group, you are good to go! There are two bars on the inside and they serve outside in the parking lot for events as well. Plenty of seating including couches, high tops and seating along the windows to people watch (my preference!). Cute little gift shop and refrigerator section up front for your to-go items. Very friendly staff all around. The beers selection is great! They had something for everyone during my visit. I enjoyed two sours and two IPAs in a flight. All were excellent. I really should have taken home a 6 pack of Tritonia (a cucumber lime gose) because it was the most perfect drinkable gose I've had in a long time. Definitely a brewery I will stop at again next time I am in the area.

Erin M.

Yelp
Love this place. Pet friendly!!! Great beer! Great space! Wonderful atmosphere. The employees are always nice.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
A great brewery. Love how they allow dogs in their courtyard. Really enjoyed their fights.
google avatar

Luke E.

Yelp
Creature Comforts is Awesome. Despite the fact that it wasn't around when I went to UGA, it has become the go-to spot whenever I am visiting Athens. The beer, atmosphere and merch is fantastic and it's open enough that you never feel crowded. It is easily my favorite downtown Athens addition in a very long time!
google avatar

Paul O.

Yelp
Must be so hip and cool to not take cash, you know, actual fucking money. Their beer is overpriced and isn't even that great. The premise is a stupid hipster heaven. And the staff gives off the vibe that they smell their own farts. Peace out Creature.
google avatar

Ron F.

Yelp
Cool place with great beer. I've been wanting to stop by here for a few years and glad I got the chance.
google avatar

Vamsee R.

Yelp
Have seen their beers so many times in the stores and finally decided to drive all the way from Atlanta to Athens to try their other beers. Totally loved the ambience and the beers. If you like malt-flavors or something toasty, definitely go for The Silent World. Fun Fact: Tropicalia is the beer that Thor gulps in The Avengers End Game. Personally didn't like it, I guess it a beer only for Asgardians
google avatar

Luke T.

Yelp
These guys make good beer. Big fan of Tropicalia. I stumbled on the brewery while dropping off the kid at UGA for some competition. Definitely felt like a kid in the candy store. Picked up a case from this brewery and they can only sell you a case. Nevertheless, I put 4 6 packs in my car and since they had limited edition stuff, I got to try the porter and a rye cask brown ale. In the end, I still prefer Tropicalia. Definitely good beer.
google avatar

Kari C.

Yelp
What a large place with indoor and outdoor seating. Good prices. Very friendly staff. Stop by if in the area.
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
Similar to my Terrapin review- super cool place & a must visit in Athens. I recommend getting on the Athens beer trail or stopping here on your own. They have a huge variety to choose from (obviously) & a spacious place inside & out. The staff is usually really helpful & if they can't guide you on what to try there's definitely someone in the area who can. Sometimes they have food trucks/vendors, but the focus is on the beer. It's really nice to sit outside on the patio & play cornhole, hang with your friends or dogs & whatnot. I've always really enjoyed coming here & sampling some new stuff or sticking to my favs.
google avatar

Catherine O.

Yelp
Always great, always friendly service even when busy. And great beer. More hazy IPAs!! Love Creature Comforts
google avatar

Margot T.

Yelp
My favorite brewery in Athens! The sours are really yummy and the staff is very friendly. Some nights they have food trucks and live music. I went there my first night in Athens, and I felt immediately at home. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Visiting Athens for the weekend and Creature was the first on the list for a reason. Not only did I have some amazing beers while visiting, more on that, but the space is beautiful. We arrived Saturday afternoon and were greeted by friendly staff who checked ID's before you're allowed into the space. This seemed to be a college town thing, because other breweries did the same. The space was filled with a variety of eclectic people which made it even more welcoming. There were two bars to choose from, both with the same beers on tap and some of the coolest bartenders. Now let's talk about the beers, okay? We started with a flight because there were too many options that sounded good. I really enjoy sour beers so naturally, I tried them all. Athena was available in a few variations which were great! There was also a wild ale collaboration on tap with an Austin, TX brewery that I had to try (I'm from Texas y'all). It was called Mutualism and I ended up leaving with two large bottles of it. It was that awesome!! Creature also taught me that I might actually be a fan of IPA's! I really enjoyed Tropicália. This was a great way to acquaint my tastebuds with the hoppy style! Now I'm more interested in trying IPA beers at other breweries and restaurants. The brewery also offers free tours but you have to be wearing closed toed shoes. They do offer safety for covers.. I work at a manufacturing facility and know better. My boyfriend and I had a good laugh as we watched some chick trying to tough it out with the things slipped over her wedge heels. My advice if you want the tour, wear the right shoes. Luckily you can see the equipment from the open seating area which was just enough for me!
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Trendy. Lots of interesting craft beers. UGA students, but not exclusively. Curiosity bar options include a lavender beer with edible glitter.
google avatar

Garrett I.

Yelp
I have been a huge fan of CCB for years since I had my first Trop and Athena years ago. Their consistency in the core beers, execution of special beers in multiple styles, and innovation of new beers keep CCB one of my most sought after breweries. Of course seeing CCB in The Avengers was so cool! You have to look up the story on how that happened! The anniversary parties are known for having some of the best unique bees and for showcasing their best beers of the past. I haven't been to one yet but it is one of the brewery anniversary parties that I really want to go to. Athena is one of the best beers after a hard afternoon of yard work and the variants of Athena are some of the best fruited sours I have had. I will always be a Tropicalia fan as it is one of the best beers to drink on a regular basis as a with food beer or an afternoon happy hour at home treat. Check them out on social media to keep up with what they are coming out with next!

Yelp
This brewery is definitely a favorite of mine. I'm not a big beer drinker so i was very reluctant to come when my job was having their going away party for my boss but they insisted i come because i will find something i like and i did and I'm so glad that i did because i now come just about three times a month now. I got the Athena and that is what i drink all the time because it is more like a sour and doesn't really taste like beer-beer if that makes sense haha. You're able to mix it with infusions. My favorite is the Nadarita which comes with Athena, Habanero sauce and i believe strawberry too. And then the Blueberry Thyme. Their prices are very reasonable, they are pet friendly outside and the staff is super nice. I had an issue with my dog outside the other week and the staff was very supportive and even comped the rest of my drinks that day. That was very nice of them to do and the constantly make sure me and my dog was okay. I love the beer and i love the people there.

Arielle L.

Yelp
Always a crowd pleaser! I love to come here from time to time to grab a beer with friends. (I also come here on Wednesdays during the farmer's market). It's always crowded because the beer is that good, but sometimes it's too crowded to the point where you can't find a seat. Be prepared to stand! I just wish the taproom was a bit bigger to accommodate more people. I'm really a fan of Athena Paradiso tart cherry, cranberry, and raspberry. I tried the Athena Paradiso Blackberry and I thought it was also good, but nothing compared to the tart cherry, cranberry and, raspberry. I've also like Dracula's blood and Bibo, Athena, and Tropicalia are always good choices. You have the option to make your own flight as well. That one is my favorite and I'm so happy they brought it back this year! They are always coming up with new flavors especially during the farmer's market.
google avatar

Tyler M.

Yelp
My favorite thing about this brewery is the openness inside and out. Tons of seating and multiple bars so there wasn't a wait to get beer. The beers were solid, I went with a flight so I could try 4 different brews since I'm from out of town. It was about $12 for the flight, a bit pricey but for the experience well worth it. While I enjoyed my visit here, it didn't come close to comparing with the value at Terrapin. I suggest maybe starting out here for a beer and then moving on to terrapin for the bulk of the day.

Yelp
Let me tell you about this place. Even though it's downtown- it's one of my favorite places to go and hang out with friends and wind down the evening with cold beer AND they are also dog friendly outside. With COVID they placed long picnic tables with chairs. They're all spread apart pretty far- is nice with COVID. Weekdays are few people and weekends it's packed. They made it cute with the lights as well. There's a lot of space inside as well. They have a variety of choices of beer and limited time ones that are seasonal. They even have choices to people who don't like beer. Like beermosas and fruit infused beers which are a good choice as well. Since is Fall I got to try their Athena Swizzle. Fruity and good. I'm not a huge IPA person, but I do like lagers. Also their service is amazing. Even though they were busy they were on top of it. Our server was Regan or Reagan. She was amazing! And she loved my dog Cooper! She was on top of it. Very sweet. They were slammed and my beer didn't come out for a good 15-20 mins. And she put my tab on the house. They were so apologetic. If y'all get her- she's and amazing server! :) definitely will come back! CHEERS.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday afternoon right when they opened at 3 pm with a group of 5. Went during COVID so we wanted it to be a safe experience & we got that! Masks were required for both staff & customers (whenever you're not sitting at your table). All outside seating with tables 6 feet apart so it was easy to social distance. Our server Laura was great! Super sweet. The prices were decent and the flight was super good. My favorite was the "Taste Like Flowers". Would definitely come back!

Yelp
In a town with many brewery options, Creature Comforts is a great, centrally located spot with endless options and good vibes. I have sampled various Creature Comforts brews living in ATL over the years, and was eager to visit their flagship brewery in Athens on our recent visit. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, and found the spot relatively busy but relaxed with several parties enjoying the vast space and whiling away the afternoon. It seems like Creature Comforts acts a superb meeting spot for locals, and it was nice to partake in the community vibes. To drink, she started with Mexican-style lager, whereas I went brave and decided on a funky barley wine option, which was stout enough to justify my odd choice. To follow that up I went with a German-style Pilsner, which rounded things out nicely. For our first drink, we sat in the corner which offered great views of the street and passers-by from their floor to ceiling windows, and we took our second drink outdoors to enjoy on their comfy patio, making for a perfect, Athens afternoon.

Yelp
This place is hip and has such a fun, comfortable vibe to it. It's located in Downtown Athens, Georgia in what was an old Goodyear tire shop. What I liked about it is that they did not remove the old Tire signs from the outside speaks volumes about trying to maintain the old downtown look of Athens. The inside of this brewery is amazing. The bathrooms were very clean. You can tell they put effort into all the details. The service from staff are incredibly hospitable. All the craft beer is authentic. The best beers I liked were the Duende and Cosmik Debris (both DIPAs), and Tropocallia. Definitely do not leave without trying these. This place is dog friendly and is worth the visit and the town of Athens and UGA were great to experience.

Yelp
I enjoy Creature Comfort beer and enjoy going to the brewery. When we have friends in town we always take them here. We mostly go on the weekend so it is always crowded. They do a good job of moving people through the lines at the bar and you can run a tab. The brewery is kid friendly and they allow four legged friends outside. On a hot summer day it can get kind of hot inside with the garage doors open. They have huge ceiling fans but in the summer it is blowing hot air. We try to make it down when they do releases of new beer. This usually happens on a Friday and they can sell out over the weekend. Most of the time you can only buy the special brewed beers at the brewery and not at the local package stores. They brew a lot of really good IPA's that you can only taste and buy at the brewery.

Yelp
If you are reading this and it's past September 2017, guess what? The laws have changed and you can now buy beer at the Creature Comforts tap/tasting room. Hooray!! And now for my review... prior to venturing to CC I had tasted their beer a couple of times beforehand - once at the State of Origin Beer Festival and once at Universal Joint. I had already fallen in love with their IPA Tropicalia and felt the longing, nay, the desire to taste it at its source!! Located in downtown Athens the space is just beautiful inside and out. Love the various skateboard decks that have been transformed into works of art. During my visit there was a Hawaiian themed celebration going on, complete with Hawaiian Band, Tropical drinks and roasted /grilled oysters for sale. Due to laws (that are current as I write this), they cannot sell beer to consume on site. They can give you samples as part of a tour (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). $14 gets you a band with six little tabs that pull off (good for 6oz each), a free logo glass and a tour (if you like- no obligation). A true bargain for such good beer. Okay - so I wasn't brave enough to use my tabs to commit to 6oz samples, so my cup runneth over with Tropicalia. It is an amazing beer and one of my new favorite IPAs! There's a real positive vibe in here - the staff are great and service feels very personalized. The place is very pet friendly (there were tons of dogs) - and somewhat kid friendly (mine was the only one there and only one couple gave us a dirty look - lol). Their swag is pretty swagalicious and you can get six packs to go.
