The Best Breakfast Sandwiches in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Crema has been a favorite of remote workers and people-watchers in the inner Southeast for two decades now, and a big part of that is the diversity of the options at each cafe. The bakery is well known for adventurous interpretations of classic pastries, but, for those in the know, their signature breakfast sandwich is what to order. Portioned more like a slider than a burger, the Kickstart features a grill-kissed ciabatta roll, glistening candied bacon, and a McMuffin-like round of scrambled egg. This is a meal you can enjoy between morning meetings without having to deal with messy hands or boxes of leftovers, and it’s priced accordingly." - Ben Coleman

Sip Coffee at These Charming Cafes in Portland and Beyond

"A longstanding favorite for its multi-roaster program, Crema on Southeast Ankeny sources beans from Coava and Red E, transforming them into cappuccinos and macchiatos as well as caramel-vanilla lattes and cardamom-chile mochas. The in-house bakery churns out things like huckleberry scones and cinnamon rolls to pair with the drinks." - Levi Rogers

Outstanding Portland Coffee Shops With Free Wi-Fi

"This Southeast 28th Avenue coffee shop is one of the most popular places to get work done in the city, and with plenty of good reasons. Fresh pastries, Coava coffee, and ample outdoor seating along with relatively fast Wi-Fi and a friendly neighborhood vibe make it an ideal place to pop open a laptop while sipping an Americano. As a bonus, the surrounding area has tons of dining options." - Nick Woo, Janey Wong

The Best Restaurants and Food Carts Near Portland’s Laurelhurst Park | Eater Portland

"This bright and roomy cafe, situated at the intersection of Southeast Ankeny and 28th Avenue, is a popular spot among Laurelhurst locals seeking a productive workspace during the week or a warm and welcoming third space for leisurely weekend mornings. Coffee enthusiasts will enjoy the bold and vibrant floral and citrusy notes of Crema’s single-origin French press coffee. When it comes to food, the cardamom morning buns and cream cheese-frosted cinnamon rolls are clear standouts; those desiring something more filling and savory should opt for a slice of the veggie or meat quiche."

14 Best Coffee Shops in Portland, OR | Condé Nast Traveler

"Crema's lattes are always good, and the brewed coffee is from one of several local roasters, but no one makes a big to-do about the drinks. People who come here do so more for the convivial atmosphere—and the baked goods. The space is inviting, with mellow music, the smell of baked goods, and creative types clattering away at their laptops, and plenty of room—so you'll never feel guilty for taking up a table to work for a few hours. There are a few things to nibble on, including sandwiches and savory pastries, but opt for our personal favorite: The Kickstart, an egg sandwich with brown sugar–pepper bacon and sharp cheddar on ciabatta." - Hannah Wallace

Google
Crema Coffee & Bakery never disappoints! This wasn’t my first visit, and just like before, everything was delicious. I had the Gluten Free banana streusel muffin and a latte both were absolutely perfect. Just a heads-up: the line can be long, so don’t go if you’re short on time. It’s a place to slow down and savor.

Ugh, this place absolutely made my month long stay in Portland while lodging in Kernside neighborhood! I probably spent more money on coffee here than anywhere else. Black coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, the breakfast sandwich, EVERYTHING is sooo good! Every barista I interacted with was incredibly kind. Love that it's on the Rainbow Plaza/Street. Perfect vibes and plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating.

Google
Looked for toddler friendly place - saw mushroom biscuit and Spanish latte on the menu with rainbow roadway for pedestrian and dining, so felt comfortable to socialize with my little one there. We’d warm up inside with delicious food of flaky biscuits and semi-sweet latte, and walk around outside until it was time to go back in and get warmed up again. Saw many other families come in to spend leisurely morning. It was little far from Beaverton, but worth the trip by visiting local parks too.

Busy busy busy!!!! Crema is one of the busiest coffee spots I have been to in Portland thus far. I think all the morning joggers, dog walkers and random people like me, meet here. The line was out the door but moved fast. There are sooo many goodies to choose from and the cashier is super helpful. My coffee and breakfast sandwich was yummy.

Google
Garlic bacon quiche ($9) was amazing!!! I also loved the honey vanilla tea, and I really like how there are 8 ounce drink options. My friend loved the kickstart sandwich. Great vibes, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It was pretty packed with people inside working or reading. Service was quick. Can’t wait to come back!!

Google
This spot is always a banger! Excellent savory and sweet baked goods; quality selection of teas and coffees; and they have indoor and outdoor seating in a great part of town. It's also staffed well so many folks are behind the counter doing the most to keep a steady flow of good service.

Google
We got some chai latte, chocolate croissant. The place was good but the food was cold and felt old. Wouldn’t recommend it if you are looking for fresh baked goods and hot tea in the morning. Clean restrooms.

Nathania C

Google
Visited here on two occasions: once for a honey vanilla latte and the kickstarter breakfast sandwich, and the following day for the Spanish latte and the soup/sandwich lunch combo. My husband also ordered a hot drink and a soup/sandwich lunch combo. The sandwich portions, even the breakfast sandwich, are so small!! Barely a few bites, may as well be a kids meal. The soups were just okay. Our lattes were just okay, nothing special. Service was so wonderful though- everyone was warm and friendly and this place is bustling and constantly busy with customers. Lots of outdoor seating on a pedestrian-only street though we couldn’t enjoy it because of the rainy weather. Would recommend this place for the vibes but not the hot food. Can’t speak for the bakery items though.

Yelp
TWO WORDS: Sticky bun. Is that one or two words? Well either was the sticky bun was absolutely amazing and you must go just for that treat. We came for the coffee and stayed for the sticky bun. Coffee was good, not overly sweet, just how I like it. I also tried their seasonal watermelon agua Fresca - refreshing and good! The service was welcoming and quick! The front of the house was happy to walk through the menu and treats as I decided to pick what I wanted. I can wait to come back and try their other offerings. Parking is limited to street parking, but we had no problem finding a spot. Plenty of seating - looked like a lot of students and work from home going on here for a change of scenery!

Yelp
This was quite a busy shop, tons of people coming and going of all ages. Plenty of seating inside and a few tables outside. Felt a little industrial and dark. They have tons of baked goods to choose from and even a small menu of sandwich type things. I ordered a bacon and egg breakfast sandwich and even though it was tasty, I was not satisfied and kept me wanting more. It was the smallest sandwich. The size I would choose for a child. Would not order that again, or their sandwiches if they are similar in size. The cappuccino was good. Medium, no complaints. I ordered a Marionberry pastry that I ate later that day. It tasted good, the crust was flakey, but there was too much cheese filling and not enough berry. It did the job. Would come again.

Yelp
Welcoming and spacious cafe, offering various drinks, pastries, and bakeries. Cafe au late was well balanced and good. While chai latte was a bit lukewarm, the spice and flavor were great. I really enjoyed bread pudding, which was dense, eggy, and light sweetness. Breakfast sandwich was smaller than what we expected but fresh and good. We also tried berry pastry and quiche, which were both tasty and highly recommended. The service was pretty quick. There are tons of table in and outside. I'd love to try other baked goods next time.

Yelp
I got a honey vanilla oat milk iced latte. 9/10. I really liked this one. Def busy morning vibes, would come again!
google avatar

Erika G.

Yelp
Consistently good coffee, but for me it's all about the savory breakfast options here. The scones and biscuits are also tasty, you can't go wrong with the mushroom machego biscuit! If you're more into the sweets they have a ton to choose from, house made cinnamon rolls & sticky buns, chocolate espresso bread, cookies, cakes and tarts.

Yelp
Popped in put of the cold rain for a warm drink. Sis ordered a Chai latte and I got a hot apple cider. It was as juicy as a biting into a crisp apple and warmed my insides. The baked goods were tempting but I was saving room for lunch. Customers can obtain a bathroom code for access. I was in awe of the artwork and wish I would've peeped the second one. The inside of this coffee shop was pretty spacious yet still lacked open seating. I sat at a table that was entirely too close to have a private convo from the next table. Service was friendly.

Yelp
This coffee shop is consistently amazing! I have been here multiple times over the years and I've never been disappointed. Staff is always professional, the quality of the food and coffee is top notch, and the space is always clean and feels inviting. There is ample indoor and outdoor seating. A great place to meet up with friends and talk a walk to Laurelhurst park!

Yelp
This place is pretty great! There is almost always a line when I go. This location has seating inside and outside. The selection of baked goods always looks amazing and it's hard to pick something. They even sell some items like bread loaves, cakes, and pot pies. There is a dessert case that I have not tried anything from yet. The savory baked items are phenomenal. I have had some great veggie quiches. The breakfast turnover with eggs and potatoes is my favorite! It's a flaky crust and can almost feed two people. I tried the muffin in the picture and it was good, but a little dry. Luckily, they make a good latte to wash it down. They even make a few specialty drinks. This is a great coffee shop and bakery, but not if you are in a rush.

Yelp
this cafe is a good place for studying, very nice and open ambiance. i love that they keep their windows open to let in the natural air. they have a large selection of pastries which is what i love them for. i tried the loaded focaccia and it was so tasty. the bread texture is so crispy yet soft. all the flavors of the vegetables and cheese blended so well together. the server at the cashier was super nice as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here on a recommendation from a local. Wow! Totally worth the hype. The quiche was phenomenal (with a slush side salad) as was the kickstart breakfast sandwich. And the iced espresso with sweetened condensed milk and cream was so decadent! My partner was very satisfied with his black coffee. They really do custom make each cup. Then we had to try a few of the bakery goods too, otherwise what would be the fun in coming and missing dessert? Let me tell you, if you're a lemon poppyseed fan, you do not want to miss theirs!! It was probably the most tender and moist lemon poppyseed cake I've ever tasted. The pain au chocolat was fine. Not of Parisian standards, but my never-been-to-Paris partner thought it was quite good. So you decide. I won't judge. All-in-all this was a fab way to start our day. Great service staff, nice seating options and above all, great eats!
google avatar

Chezz C.

Yelp
I don't drink coffee! And I haven't tried the pastries. I do come here fairly often for their chai latte and other tea drinks, which are excellent. The hot chocolate is good too. They required masks much longer than most businesses, which I appreciated. Alas, they finally gave in to the tide and no longer require masks. The place is spacious with high ceilings, though, so feels fairly Covid-safe. Also there is outdoor seating, but not covered or heated. They have a great location, near action-packed 28th & Burnside. Crema sits on the corner of Rainbow Road, a carfree block that also includes Gorges Beer Co. Bicyclists, stop by on Wednesdays for Bike Happy Hour, when you get $2 discount on drinks at Crema and Gorges, while admiring the cool bikes and talking with bike people!

Yelp
Got the turnover, banana muffin, & Jalepino cheese flakey bread circle Turnover was suppose to be 'egg and cheese' Was mostly potatoes and red peppers. Muffin was too sugary Jalapeño was the best thing. Still meh Partner got the chocolate pie that was good No better than any other bakeries , can't find myself going out of my way for this Also her matcha latte was good Unique latte flavors like rose etc
google avatar

Martin W.

Yelp
Everything they do they do from scratch. They also have a lot of unusual sweet items. Their sandwiches are great I love the turkey Brie with half a salad or a soup. The team and service is nice and friendly. There are a lot of places to sit inside but also outside and it's easy to enjoy a good coffee a pastry and the sun! Simply just a great space to have in the neighborhood
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, and my partner and I shared two of the most delicious and beautiful lattes I've ever tasted. We tried the honey vanilla latte and the caramel sutra latte, and both were perfectly flavored, not too sweet, but sweetly refreshing. Service was excellent and the beverages came out fast despite how busy it was.

Allen R.

Yelp
Came from Vancouver and wasn't disappointed. Great food, drink and bakery. People are fantastic and customers love them.
google avatar

Roya B.

Yelp
Great drink menu and pastry selection. Dogs are welcome to come in while you order and wait for your order. Then you must take to go or sit outside (lots of seating!) Their mask mandate was still in effect on 1/4/22 and they had a basket of masks inside the front door. I read about some complaints in reviews but it's their prerogative and with the current tripledemic and an infant at home, I appreciated their safety measures. We ordered a rose latte, cappuccino, jalapeño cheddar corn biscuit and almond croissant. The biscuit and rose latte were fantastic. The croissant was not what I'm used to. It didn't have an almond paste inside and it was just a little boring. But there's such a big selection so I'm sure I'll be back and will update the review accordingly.

Yelp
Warning The Crookie is not for the faint of heart, do not eat while operating heavy machinery, driving, riding a bike, scooter, even walking unless you wanna have a bad time. Do not eat on a first date unless you want that person to never call you again, don't eat if you're meeting that friend that seems sort of judgey, don't eat if you're trying to make a good impression with your in-laws. This dangerous pastry will leave you with a crumb filled lap, chocolate covered fingers and flakey croissant pieces in your smile. The sugar alone almost put me in a coma. I'm not mad about it. Whoever invented this should either be arrested or given a Nobel prize. I also got a latte.
google avatar

Yelp
Portland is a spot I've had good food and drinks at during previous trips. Crema was the first spot we visited this weekend, and we came here for breakfast. The ambiance was nice, and the service good. There were outdoor seatings - fortunately with tents to dodge the rain. Unfortunately, I thought both the latte and pan Au chocolat were just ok - even by SD standards. Perhaps my expectations were just higher for Portland? Do try dipping it into your coffee, I think it tastes quite nice.

Yelp
Long review. First two paragraphs are the jist of the review. The rest is a personal experience. Our overall experience with Crema was positive in regards to food, speed and nice outdoor seating. . This was mostly because of the food/drinks and speed of the line. We tried their breakfast sandwich, ham and cheese croissant, pumpkin pie, honey vanilla latte (Oatmilk and Hot) and vanilla caramel latte (iced and breve). Literally all of it was awesome. Well pulled shots, flaky filled croissant, fresh egg and delicious bacon and so on. There were so many choices I went into decision paralysis for a minute and that's not a bad thing. With that said, I had mixed feelings about their procedures for (I'm assuming) Covid? First was large signs plastered on the window to wear a mask. I don't mind wearing a mask but that was a bit off putting for a place that could easily have a "friendly neighborhood cafe" vibe. My wife and I only had one between us so I went in. The line moved well and the people were friendly. All was well. So, I'm waiting for my coffee near a bench with a handicapped sign. I'm not just a big guy but I have limited mobility and my hands shake. The person making coffee (nicely) asked me to walk up these steps and wait outside. There were arrows on the floor pointing to outside but I figured they were for customer flow. I managed up the stairs and back down when she called, hoping not to drop the food that I was holding. Then when I walk up to the coffee bar. The person puts them out for me filled to the brim with no lids. I say, "can I have a lid on them? My hands shake." Instead of just doing it (there were lids right next to them), the person had me go get the lids, bring them back and try to put them on myself. So look, I'm new to Portland. Just moved here. No neighborhood cafe who is adamant about such precautious would have come close to this experience. And I have frequented many. Don't make assumptions about ability over your rules.

Yelp
Coming back from Seattle, where we were spoiled for coffee options, this coffee shop is average. The pluses is that there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and many menu options, some better than others. My husband is a croissant conneseir and he didn't finish his here--which I've never seen. A positive is that they do have gluten free options for muffins which I always appreciate so that added a star. Coffee wise, husband just drinks black drip and he said that was fine. The cold brew was acidic after a couple minutes, even with cream added, which is rare. I didn't feel much jolt of caffeine so likely middle of the road with caffeine content even with cold brew. If in the area and nothing else was close, would try again, wouldn't go out of the way to drive here, so 3 stars.
google avatar

Karen Rae S.

Yelp
I stayed at Kex hotel this weekend and really wanted a gluten free pastry and some coffee for our drive this morning to Seattle. I was so pleased to see this coffee shop just across the street and they have an amazing gluten free banana streusel muffin. It was super moist with just the amount of sweetness in the streusel. Can't recommend enough! I had a chai latte with oat milk to go with it and it was a perfect combo for our fall drive up north. They have gluten free cookies too but I didn't get to try them.
google avatar

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
Love, love this place! Fabulous service from friendly people every time I go in, absolutely amazing coffee and pastry's no matter what you choose-and there are many to choose from. I would take one of everything if I could! You cannot go wrong with visiting Crema. Masks are required inside but no worries if you do not show up with one. They have some for customers on a table to the right just inside the door.
google avatar

Mango M.

Yelp
Went here once earlier this week and have been two more times since! It's amazing! Such yummy pastries and great coffee and service. One of my new favorite coffee places :)
google avatar

Adam B.

Yelp
This place has excellent espresso drinks and pastry--in particular, their vegetarian breakfast empanada with potato et al is utterly fantastic, the kind you take a bite of and chew slowly to think about how great it is. I have one concern to raise which is the inconsistency of their "no dogs except service dogs inside" policy. I went three consecutive mornings last week and each time, took care to leash up my German Shepherd. Not always easy to find a spot where people aren't already sitting, in the shade, and ideally so he can visually see me inside (to ease his anxiety). But I walk in and see dogs on leash, dogs in tote bags, dogs in people's arms. Not to mention photos of dogs at the barista station, and dog biscuits for sale. When I ask customers if these are their service dogs, customers give me shrugs and say the staff don't care about dogs brought inside. If this is the policy, please remove the window sticker from the door; otherwise, please enforce this policy so it is fair to all. Or perhaps "well-behaved dogs welcome inside." Thank you!

Yelp
How I heard of this place: While walking through the neighborhood with local friends, we decided to pop in for cookies to go (and ate them outside in the covered parking lot seating. Type of cuisine: A coffee shop with espresso and freshly baked pastries (muffins, scones, cookies, etc.) and a limited selection of sandwiches. Ambiance: A large, open cafe with wooden tones and a warm feeling. What I ordered: Chocolate Chip Cookies! What I loved: The huge cookies. Why I loved it: It was set in a great location and had a wonderful aroma wafting throughout - of freshly baked goods. I wished it was earlier in the day - for coffee - and I was more hungry (had just finished a huge, late lunch), so that I could partake of more. Cost: Average

Michael G.

Yelp
Food quality and service never recovered after COVID. There's a high turnover of staff at this hipster central cafe and "bakery," but it's hard to call yourself a bakery when all the pastries are bland, and the place is getting incrementally cheaper when it comes to quality ingredients. Oh, and the prices go up. Watch the staff roll their eyes as they express disdain while serving you. Watch me not tip. Goodbye, Crema!
google avatar

Helena L.

Yelp
I love that they offer high-quality tisane. Service was fast and atmosphere friendly.

Coral P.

Yelp
I ordered an espresso and the egg and cheese turnover, and I really enjoyed them both. My only regret is not also getting the cream cheese and strawberry danish. The line was long, but it was clear the crew knew what they were doing, and it moved along plenty fast. It was my first and likely only time in, but it seemed like a friendly neighborhood spot.

Jillian G.

Yelp
i go here almost everyday. the coffee is good but i love this place because of the bakery items. i love the kickstart breakfast sandwich, the coffee cake muffin, and the poppyseed loaf. this place allows dogs so there are many furry friends here all the time which is nice because i like dogs. the service is fine, this place is always super busy so i can understand why the workers might not be super radiant and energetic lol but it's okay they're cool. if you are in the area, i recommend trying this place.
google avatar

Gabrielle B.

Yelp
I came here for a pumpkin spice latte and sadly they did not have any. However there were a lot of specialty lattes on the menu and I tried the Carmel sutra. It was so decadent and I could taste the real vanilla bean hints and creamy caramel layers in the oat milk. It was an amazing latte made with high quality coffee! I guzzled it pretty quickly because it was hard to put down. There were tons of breakfast items, breads, pastry's and cookies that all looked fabulous. They are set up so only a few people can be inside at a time and the rest wait outside under this tent and they have a speaker so you can hear you name called. My barista was very friendly! The lattes are expensive but good quality. The wait time was probably over 10 min (it was really busy), so if you come here at a busy time make sure you're not in a rush!

Yelp
I've been to Crema twice so far when I've needed to travel to Portland. Once was still during COVID lockdowns and now recently when those restrictions have lifted. This business has chosen to maintain the COVID restrictions just like during lockdown - meaning there's no indoor seating, you can't get to their items in fridges (there's signs saying something like STOP! We'll get that for you!), and masks are required to go inside. I'm not political about masks vs. no masks - I'm just sick of having restrictions & Crema almost feels like "COVID PTSD" because the restrictions continue there. Additionally, they use largely natural lighting inside the shop, which doesn't work well for this store's layout - it makes some parts of the store hard to see (like their display cases) or some areas, like the alcove leading to their bathrooms, flat out dark and dangerous - meaning you can't see well. If I was vision impaired, I think I'd have a really hard time with this shop. Their bathrooms are....creepy - the walls are heavily decorated with very random, busy, and somewhat unsettling artwork - that's not what I want to see when I use the restroom. I'm glad they had one available, but another thing to note is that the toilet itself is loose - meaning that I could rock it from side to side...definitely needs to be fixed. I was planning on getting a drink and a pastry, but since I couldn't see the case well enough, I stuck with just a latte. I thought the latte was pretty interesting - I had a rose latte with homemade rose syrup. I also appreciated the beautiful latte pour on top. It was a rainy day & I would've liked to have remained inside, but alas, I had to leave to drink my drink. Thankfully there's a large outdoor tent right next to Crema, but it's still a lot colder than being indoors. I hope that Crema will eventually lift their restrictions and allow customers to sit inside and use their space again. If they continue to remain "locked down" I'll just go to Starbucks nearby.

Yelp
Long time customer at Crema. PLEASE bring back the pre-pandemic bread pudding. The recent version is dense and dry! The coffee and pastries here are always good.

Rachel G.

Yelp
Delicious coffees and baked goods. Nice atmosphere with beautiful plants. Only negative is sometimes I feel a little out of place / judged by people as I don't look like a typical Portland 'hipster' but that is how it is in many places in Portland honestly. Pretty latte art though!
google avatar

Colin M.

Yelp
The coffee is fine. The seating area is comfortable. Dear God, please change the music.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice selection of pastry and solid coffee. I like the location and the feel. Would have given five stars, but although the servers were charming, the barista was a bit slow.

Frank B.

Yelp
Great coffee, house made treat and service. In a city with lots of coffee shops, Crema stands out. Large dining and outdoor seating areas. Will definitely come back

Marc L.

Yelp
Cashier this morning around 9/10am was incredibly rude for absolutely no reason. Made me feel really sad :/
google avatar

Bobby L.

Yelp
Mixed feelings about this place. I had a double espresso (bonus: you get a shot of mineral water for free), egg / cheese / peppers turnover, vegetarian quiche, and a bearclaw. Around $28 + tip. All top quality and tasty. I wanted a pot pie, but the small vegan ones were sold out. They have flowers for sale, but they're overpriced. Probably don't sell many of those. The odd / bad parts: mask wearing is mandatory. I just (yesterday) rode the Amtrak for 12 hours, with strangers sitting two feet away from each other. No masks. So why would they require them here. Odd. I see too many places requiring employees to wear masks. The plandemic is over. Get over it. It's abusive to employees and silly for customers. And a waste of money (they are nice enough to provide masks at the door). Second weird thing: no dining in. It was 37 degrees this morning. You can't provide one or two small tables inside? Not with outlets for studying, but just to have a coffee and go? This isn't a big deal, but it is odd. It's pet friendly, which is great if you have a dog. Personally I don't think there should be dog hair in a bakery, but that's me. Brewery, yeah. Bakery, no. Hair salon, maybe. Bookstore, OK. Last thing, my pet peeve. Say "you're welcome." After someone says "Thank you," the appropriate response is "you're welcome." Not "ugggh," or "OK," or "uh huh," or "no problem." You're welcome. OK? No problem.

Angella G.

Yelp
I've had a hot cocoa and a latte and all I have to say is, exquisite. It was quite possibly the best hot cocoa I ever had in my life and I am not exaggerating. The whipped cream on top was the perfect addition. They have an assortment of pastries, cupcakes, chocolates, we don't leave without one. They also practice social distancing and enforce the use of masks, so appreciate that they care for their staff and their customers.
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee spots in Portland! They consistently serve really yummy drinks and pastries. I've tried most of their signature coffees, but my favorites are the Carmel Sutra and the Honey Vanilla Latte. Unfortunately they still don't offer indoor seating, but the quality of their drinks and food has them secured as one of my all time go-to's when I'm needing a caffeine kick
google avatar

Maya P.

Yelp
Don't forget your mask! Delicious ginger carrot muffin (they just brought it back!) and delicious vanilla honey latte (they accommodated my ask for an extra shot). Come here for the perfect weekend pick me up - and bring a friend! Everyone is so friendly!
google avatar

Jessi C.

Yelp
There is quite a bit of seating inside and outside. The espresso was smooth and not bitter at all. The staff is soooo friendly and have great recommendations. I didn't try any of the pastries or food, but they had a huge assortment of pastries and savory items. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
Review "BC" (before COVID) 2/2020: Yaaaaassss! Options is what I look for in drinks and eats. I love love love this place offers a variety of dairy and dairy free options for your teas, coffees and it doesn't stop there... eats too! With more awareness of health, having options like theirs is an excellent draw. And, wait... they make their own granola as well as pastries both sweet and savory... still need more convincing, their decor is spacious, minimal and friendly. Yes, I'll be back and I'm bringing all my friends!

Yelp
This is by far, one of the most consistent coffee shops in Portland. I get the most perfect cortados here (when I want that sort of thing). They don't ask how I want my cappuccino, because well, it's a cappuccino. It shouldn't have options. And it's always piping hot and delicious. Even if it's just a medium coffee to go. The bakery portion is insane. They have a handful of gluten free options, but 90% of it is gluten full and looks amazing. Everyone we go with has enjoyed their gluteny treats. This is my favorite place to get a coconut macaroon. The staff is always friendly. They don't have time to chat, usually, but they are still nice. And of course, in the non-rainy season sitting outside sipping your coffee and people watching is pretty great.

Yelp
Fantastic pastry selection including allergen-, vegan- and dog-friendly options. Good beans and abundant indoor and outdoor seating (though outdoor uncovered as of 3/5/23). Staff wears high-quality masks and requires masks from customers when not seated, with surgical masks available at the door. The space is extremely well-ventilated and CO2 on Sunday morning measured barely higher than outdoor air, better than any business I've seen measured. Super impressed with Crema's commitment to healthy air, caring for their staff, and accommodating the vulnerable and elderly while maintaining a comfortable space and delicious products.

Yelp
It's September of 2022 and STILL NO INDOOR SEATING AND MASKS REQUIRED TO ORDER. Not even broadway shows, airlines or gyms require this. I give Crema two stars because the coffee rocks and the pastries are great. The staff are always wonderful...BUT, ...the coffeehouse looks like a dump - they turned the inside into an open pantry and storage area for workers instead of what used to be one of the loveliest neighborhood meeting places in Portland. If people wonder why Portland is a sad, dirty, former shell of itself it's because of businesses like Crema who actually prevent the community from gathering and enjoying eachother's company. Sitting down for a cup of coffee and reading next to strangers is actually really important for a sense of belonging and a great way keep a pulse on the neighborhood vibe. I have to wonder why businesses like Crema are still around. I'm a fairly open minded and liberal person - born and raised in PDX. At Crema you still have to wear a mask (even in the middle of summer) just to order a coffee to-go with no place to quietly read a book, catch up on work, or chat with friends. Outside seating in the middle of the street is NOT THE SAME. The few times I've been outside a crazy person walked up to me (another story for another review), cars are honking, and Oregon weather leaves a lot to desire. I'll always come to Crema - honestly the food, people and coffee are the best. I hope Portland culture can get over itself and spring back to life.

Yelp
1st time last time. Stale pastry. No butter. Super bougie vibe. Like a microcosm of Portland, OR. This place makes me so homesick.

Yelp
The coffee is good I haven't tried the pastries in years so I can't comment to them, but I've had them in the past and they were good. The staff were rude And you still have to wear a mask when you go inside. There are other coffee shops in the area that are much better with pleasant staff and no restrictions.
