Best Hot Chocolates in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"This small batch bean-to-bar chocolate factory unsurprisingly makes a seriously intense hot chocolate. Using a ganache that’s made in-house from Ecuadorian cacao beans, its dark hot chocolate profile will be an eye-opener for those who typically trend toward sweeter options. While there, make sure to check out the factory tour." - Rebecca Roland

Warm Up With Portland’s Go-To Hot Chocolates - Eater Portland

My husband and I had a wonderful time making our own chocolate bars! Tim is entertaining, funny, and a great educational host. All the samples were truly delicious and creativity was encouraged when making your own bar! Highly recommend this very reasonably priced experience (and to buy some extra chocolate on the way out).

Google
One of the best chocolate tasting experiences ever. Their unique flavors added into their homemade chocolate was pure indulgence for us. Our host and the owner Tim, was truly witty in his storytelling of how chocolate is made. He made the whole tour experience quite lively and fun for us. Definitely recommend this if you’re visiting Portland and promise you that you’ll keep coming back for more once you taste the unique chocolates here.

Google
Great tasting experience!! Fun making your own bar with the supplies provided. It was very educational! Tim & Barbara, as well as the two girls behind the counter, are a lot of fun! Worth the stop to taste!!

Google
We enjoyed out experience so much. Delicious tastings, so much information about how chocolate is made and it's super fun to make your own tasty bar. I recommend this highly as an activity if you are in Portland!

Steve Wilson

Google
This is an adorable chocolate shop that makes their own chocolate and then creates creates their own truffles, chocolate bars, chocolate-covered creations -- dark and milk. The flavors are amazing! The staff was friendly and gracious. They offer classes and a wide variety of unique options. Highly recommended.

Google
A cute place for sure! Me and my partner attended a Build-A-Bar Tour together, figuring it would be a nice way to spend a Saturday evening. First impressions were good! It's a cute little area with beautifully packaged chocolates and adorable displays that had an air of whimsy about them. We were told it was a tour, and we were excited to be able to really see the whole process with the incredible people and machines that make it happen! What happened instead is we were given hairnets and beardnets by employees (which neither of whom had either hairnet or beardnet on). Then, once adorned with our nets, about 20 people crammed into a tight space on pretty uncomfortable stools for two hours of a PowerPoint presentation bisected by the (admittedly cute) chocolate bar section where you shovel on whatever bits of your choosing onto a standard size chocolate bar. Bottom line is- it's lovely chocolate, but don't call it a tour. Just call it a class. I think setting expectations would do a lot for priming people for what could be a lovely time! As parents, we just felt a little bummed that it felt we burned what was one of our very few nights out alone together to attend a presentation :( But! the bit at the end where we sealed and packaged up the bar at the end was a nice note to end on.

Google
My mom and I saw a TikTok about things to do in Portland and came across a chocolate tour where you can make your own bar, we immediately booked a reservation, and I’m so glad we did! If you’re ever in the Portland area and have an hour to spare, I highly recommend this experience! We put on aprons and hair nets and got to learn how chocolate is made from start to finish from Tim, one of the chocolatiers. The presentation was informative, fun, and engaging, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of samples you get during the tour! Between that and getting to make an entire chocolate bar with whatever toppings you want, it’s absolutely worth the price. A must-do for anyone in the area.

Google
Stopped by thanks to a Yelp event and I think this may become my go-to chocolate shop. Sure, a lot of people can make good chocolate and caramel chocolate, but what makes Creo chocolate stand out is there unique and unexpected flavors. Walking in I wouldn't have expected to leave saying that their passion fruit and mushroom chocolates would be my favorite!!! I highly recommend coming by and trying their flavors and impressing your loved ones with a unique array of chocolates. The staff member there was also so friendly and nice. They were very kind and patient with my son who wanted to try all the flavors. I also liked how open and natural this location felt.

Yelp
Listen, I know the prices seem steep but the quality and craftsmanship are literally unparalleled so you should absolutely pop in and get some goods. I happened upon this spot while literally servicing my car and realized what a gold mine it was. They had some delicious samples when I popped in and I was definitely hooked from the start. My family has splurged on the giant box of chocolates but I have also gone in and gotten smaller treats in the smaller boxes. Honestly, all of the flavors are good and I say this even after trying chocolates with ingredients I'm usually not a big fan of. Service is so darn helpful and friendly and they make sure to pack your box with the best little treats -- i.e. one of the chocolates didn't seem perfect so they just gave it to me as a free sample and made sure to pick a better one for my box. The interior looks small from the outside but has a good amount of space -- also have shelves on goods to look at other than just the truffles/chocolates being sold as well. All in all, this is a stellar spot to grab chocolate and you should check it out if you're in the area!

Yelp
Creo could mean something totally different to these folks- but the word really means Believe in Spanish. If I'm talking about the coating only, our bite-size selections at this Lloyd District chocolatier in Portland, had a pleasant cocoa taste and fillings in each, had a subtle hint of flavor. This space houses their factory where they're whipping up their specialty cocoa powders, bagged items and other goodies. The shelving consists of goodies made with Ecuadorian chocolate for their darks- not sure about their milk chocolate and white origins. This Creo location has a dramatic inside with high ceilings and these impressive, almost apothecary cabinets on either side of the shop. I wanted to hang with my daughter over a cuppa hot chocolate or h. cocoa- but, these folks don't make neither. So, we settled on a box of 12- which was steep at $42- but it was nice they honor the 10% Yelp Check-In offer. The real highlight about our visit was Alix's extremely down to earth energy and generous with her samples and smiles. Thank you!

Yelp
I sought out small batch dark. Chocolate on my recent trip to Portland and wasn't disappointed when I walked 1.5 miles in the rain to visit Creo Chocolate. First it's in a chic part or Portland with cute boutiques and plenty of amazing eats. The shop itself was OMG so cute and filled with chocolate options catering to any palate. I have sought out dark chocolate with spice SCORE they had multiple options for me to explore. I purchased 3 bars for $10 each and a five pack of their truffles. I spent under $50 and for the quality I was satisfied. Finally, the proprietor of the such was incredibly courteous as we talked about chocolates and my experience visiting Portland. Being a foodie he offered a suggestion for a Burmese restaurant just a few blocks away which was amazing. I most definitely recommend Creo Chocolate and if travels ever bring me back to Portland I'll for certain return to Creo. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Yelp
This past Christmas Eve I was desperately looking for a chocolate shop for a last-minute gift for an out-of-town guest. Creo came up in my Yelp search results and I couldn't be more happy with discovering this new-to-me chocolatier. And what a discovery it was! Creo has this old world, magical vibe right off... even before walking through the front door. The historic building is covered in beautiful vintage tile, and has a Moorish architectural aesthetic that is just delightful! Those beautiful arched doorways and windows perfectly set the tone when walking into this special place. Inside the chocolate is well-displayed, with two large wall displays containing their chocolate drinking powders, bars, and packaged goods. In addition, there are several cases containing their gorgeous array of truffles. You'll find every kind of chocolate imaginable in this place... with so many opportunities to sample their scrumptious creations. Creo freely offers samples, so don't feel intimidated if they keep offering. Go for it, and just accept all the delicious goodness as part of the chocolate buying experience! Creo chocolates is mind-blowingly delicious. There are so many different varieties and flavor combinations, but a few of my favorites are the salted milk chocolate truffle, the blood orange chocolate truffle, and the raspberry chocolate truffle. Everything is an adventure here, so I suggest you try flavor combinations that are new to you. You never know what new favorite chocolate you might discover!

Yelp
Wonderful little shop! The shop has some old world feel to it with wood shelves and draws and being part shop and part chocolate manufacturing location. The service was very friendly and very happy to give you samples. The truffle case has a good assortment in it making it easy to fill a chocolate box with very good handcrafted truffles.

Yelp
I recently took another trip to Creo Chocolate for a Make-A-Bar tour with my best friend and her kids. They loved it, and there was definitely not a lack of chocolate samples! One thing that stood out to me was that we were asked if we liked white chocolate. Most of us weren't big fans, but then the caramelized white chocolate was sent around. I ended up buying a bar, and everyone else seemed impressed too. This is such a fun and unique experience, and I highly recommend it for all ages (as long as you like chocolate!). The tour is informative and engaging, and you learn a lot about how chocolate is made and where it comes from. Plus, you get to sample all sorts of delicious chocolate, and you even get to make your own bar to take home.

Yelp
My fiancé surprised me with Creo's chocolate tour for my birthday! I was so excited as soon as we walked up to the door. This was a very cool experience. It smelled amazing as soon as we walked in and you can tell it's quality stuff just by looking at the store area. I enjoyed learning about the process of making chocolate and sampling SO many of Creo's chocolates. I was very impressed with how many samples we got. They were small but the flavor is so good. It was super fun to make our own bars with whatever additions we wanted. The owner, Tim, was funny and gave a good overview of chocolate making and their priorities.

Yelp
Was staying in the area and spotted Creo Chocolate on my way to breakfast. I marveled at the outside of the building before stepping inside and subsequently greeted with the rich, rich aroma of delicious chocolate. I browsed for a bit and was asked if I was vegan which I was a little confused about BUT, in turn, I realized it was because I was soon offered a sample of a truly delectable salted dark chocolate truffle which was just the thing I needed to pull the trigger and make a purchase! I decided to do a five piece "build a box" as a gift for a friend who is watching my cat while I am out of town. A day later, I am regretting not purchasing some for myself, too! Anyway, it was hard to narrow down my choice to just five pieces because everything sounded (and looked!) so, so good. After I selected five, the kind lady working the counter delighted me by saying she could fit another piece in the box - yahoo, a bonus truffle!!! The build a box was also packaged so nicely and will make the perfect gift. As I was checking out, she asked if I liked lemon and raspberry (duh, of course!) and that a new truffle was delivered that morning and she needed to do "quality control." Sign me up, how do I participate in quality control all day everyday?! That truffle was a delight as well :) I would definitely recommend Creo Chocolate and I can't wait to gift these delicious chocolates to my friend tomorrow!

Yelp
Ordered a gift certificate to be delivered via email, but it hasn't been delivered. Will update.

Yelp
Initially we wanted to go to this chocolate shop because they had the chocolate bar tour where you could make your own chocolate bars, but unfortunately we were only in town for one weekend and they were all filled up. But we still stopped by because I really wanted to try some of their truffles and check out their store. I will admit it is a bit pricey for chocolate, but after trying it, IT IS SO WORTH IT!! The nice lady who served us gave us many samples, recommended flavors, packed up our box so neatly, and even gave us an extra truffle that was her favorite flavor and she wanted us to try it!! My favorite flavor that we had was the hazelnut crunch and honesty anything with caramel. I don't normally like caramel but THEIR CARAMEL IS OUT OF THIS WORLD! You can definitely tell it's made in house and with high quality ingredients, as with their chocolate. I also bought a Oregon Hazelnut & Dried Cherry chocolate bar for my best friend who told me it was amazing as she devoured half of it within 5 minutes of giving it to her lol. For the box of 5 truffles and 1 chocolate bar, I paid $29.50 but it was worth every penny and I would definitely come back if I wanted a treat!

Yelp
The service was lovely. The chocolate is amazing and special. Great place to buy gifts. So charming and the hot cocoa is so good!

Yelp
I wanted to give this family run chocolate shop more stars because I loved the bars my cousin brought me when she came home to CA, however I can't because there were too many things wrong with the chocolate tour for me to not bring up. Our tour was oversold with 20 people instead of 12. When we arrived the area was set up for 12 people which would have been a more comfortable number in the quaint factory space since it was 90 degrees outside. Also, water would have been a nice gesture for us because of the heat outside and because in order to truly cleanse the palate in between offerings water neutralizes. I like tastings that tell a story in flavors from milk to dark to flavors, which is what I've experienced at other farm to bar chocolatiers and more recently at the cacao farm in Maui. Making my Father's Day bar with my cousin was an experience I will cherish but again with so many people a bit hectic. Two of the 20 were kids and their parents not the most attentive which didn't help my experience because when the trays of chocolate pieces were being passed around the kids would pick up pieces with their hands (we all were using our recently washed hands) and then decide not to take it and leave it on the tray. I'm selecting after them so I found myself following their pieces of touched chocolate so I didn't select it myself. Unsure of their ages but when I have taken V in the past he was at least 10 and more recently 15 so there was none of that. Tim and his son Kevin were great. Their product overall is great but the tour could have been better.

Dawn G.

Yelp
I love the chocolate here. It is so pure! I recently tried their new truffle flavors and they are fantastic. Creamy and not too sweet. I also love many of the chocolate bars. Just a little satisfies your chocolate craving.

Yelp
Tried a perfect yuzu gimlet and a chocolate raspberry. Oh my, what wonderful quality chocolates: So good

Candy L.

Yelp
The mint chocolate cookies, dark chocolate pretzels, lava salt chocolate, and the earl grey chocolate were delicious. Surprisely I enjoyed the mint chocolate cookies. I can't wait to try other chocolate. As for the dark chocolate pretzels, it will be nice if they added the black lava salt so it can have the sweet and salty taste.

Yelp
We did the chocolate tour which was so fun! You get to sample different kinds of chocolate, open a cacao bean and learn about the princess. You then get to make your own bar of chocolate to take home! Well worth the money, great staff and experience
google avatar

Natalie K.

Yelp
I had a chocolate craving and this store delivered. Kevin made sure we learned about the basis of their chocolate and helped us get our chocolate on by letting us try every candy bar. Whisky and coffee were our favorite and the earl grey truffles were wonderful. It also looked like they offered chocolate classes as one was running when we stopped by. If you are local that could be a fun weekend activity. A great place to stop by for an afternoon sweet treat.

Yelp
Creo continues to be the epitome of chocolate in caring quality and expert creations. You won't find a better overall business that is invested in providing the highest quality experience from shopping to gifting their amazing products. I have not found a finer company or quality in Chocolates to gift to family, friends and business clients. Every product is a success and Creo cares about every facet of their interactions with their partners and customers. Amazing business to support and what you'll get back in enjoying or gifting their creations is priceless. These are not your normal chocolates.

Yelp
Let me start this off by saying that Creo Chocolate is quite possibly one of my favorite places on Earth. I remember walking in during my first visit to Portland a few years ago. I was living in Seattle at the time, which is home to Theo Chocolate, so I felt like maybe I was in some alternate reality - a similar but different West Coast city, with a similar but different chocolate factory, right? Sort of, not really. Creo had its own charm and magic that really set it apart from any other place I'd been to in the past. They had everything that a chocolate lover like me could want: beautiful truffles, unique bars (with samples!), and plenty baked treats and decadent drinks to enjoy at their seating area. Since then, Creo has been a must-visit for me every time I'm in Portland. In 2019, my mom and I got to attend one of their Make-a-Bar tours. It was delightful getting to learn about the whole bean-to-bar process, and it was fun putting together our own bars to take home. We still remember Janet's passion, friendliness, and positivity that day and definitely miss her dearly. We are so glad that Tim and Kevin are keeping Janet and Creo's story alive. I'm now based on the East Coast but still order from Creo every now and then. My pantry always has to be stocked with my favorite Coffee & Cream White Chocolate bars and Midnight Truffle sipping chocolate. (If I'm down to just one bar, I start to get a little antsy and know it's time to put another order in!) I've also introduced several friends to their products, and they love them just as much as I do. With the pandemic, I haven't been able to fly back to the West Coast in awhile, but for sure I'll be paying Creo a visit when I do. Until then, I'll just be here sipping my warm cup of liquid gold.

Yelp
Entering this space was lovely. Big windows, wooden floors, and vaulted ceilings with natural lighting that highlighted all the delights in store here. So many cacao options it was almost too much to bare. I ended up selecting a few truffles. Each delicious and unique. The friendliness and recommendations of the individual behind the counter made the entire visit very pleasant. Sadly they no longer serve sipping chocolate but people can still make it at home themselves by purchasing one of their mixes sold in store.

Yelp
WOW this place is AMAZING. HUGE shout out to Kevin. He was the nicest most fun and enjoyable person ever. He had a wonderful personality and great customer service. My husband doesn't really like sweets but you definitely changed that hahaha your chocolate recommendations were on point. I thought it was really cool the way you explained in detail how most things were made and where the chocolate came from. We also learned that they have classes where you can make chocolate and how it's made and make your own bars! This place is so awesome and we've never experienced anything like this before. We will absolutely be returning and can't wait. Maybe even in a few days because we're almost out of chocolate haha

Kim A.

Yelp
Amazing chocolate. Family business with a lot of heart and intention. All of their chocolate products are incredible and creative. Very fun and friendly service

Seth M.

Yelp
Honestly, the chocolate is just ok, not as good as I expected from other reviews. The customer services is terrible though. The person at the front desk didn't even great us and seemed upset that we were there wanting to buy chocolate. The owners used sarcasm and rudeness to bully their way through my interaction with them and definitely turned me off from ever wanting to come back. I'd go elsewhere for better chocolate and experience in Portland.
google avatar

Benay K.

Yelp
We came here for the chocolate making class and enjoyed it. The class-size is small with only six people, so it was a bit surprising when my daughter and I got there three minutes late (because we couldn't find parking) only to see that they had already started the class. So that was a bit disappointing. There are a lot of different flavored chocolates that they make there at the location. We were given a short tour of the very small store to show us how and where they create the flavors. Definitely a sweet novelty, and something interesting to do for an hour. I would probably give it a 3.5 rather than four but I believe in upgrading rather than going downwards.
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
I used this place to send my adult son in the Seattle area one of a few gifts I sent him for his birthday in February. The other 2 gifts were way more expensive but the truffles were the only one that merited a photo. I am looking forward to checking them out myself & making a custom choc bar
google avatar

Yelp
5 stars for the employees alone. The mate working there genuinely made my day. He was so friendly and cracked jokes with us. Helped us pick out chocolates for our friends. The chocolate is high quality and made in house, it's divine. I will say I miss their drinking chocolate, but they still sell it to mix at home. The owners are very charitable and have groups of kids in to make their own chocolate bars. I'm glad we have a local quality chocolate shop.

Yelp
What a gem! The chocolate at Creo is some of the best I've ever had! This is a small batch chocolatier that knows where every ingredient is sourced. The love and care they put into each bar is evident; the taste is the reward. Creo Chocolate is meant to be eaten slowly, savored, allowing the symphony of flavors to come alive in your mouth. Seriously. I'm not waxing poetic! The flavors hit your tastebuds in sequence, similar to a fine wine. The Mayan Spicy Dark starts out as deep chocolate then you are hot with cinnamon followed by ginger. It's heavenly! Addictive. I drive by every single day on my way home from the gym, but never stopped in. Then last week there was a parking spot open, I knew Galentines and Valentine's Days we're approaching, so decided to venture in. OMG. This place knows their chocolate! Soooo good. This is a small family owned business who partners with other local businesses to secure not only the cacao beans, but the mint, the whiskey (dark whiskey is another fave), the hazelnuts, the almonds and other flavors and ingredients that are carefully selected to ensure the flavors marry and pair well together. My first time in I only sampled the dark varieties. And there are several! But when I came back, the owner was there and explained that their milk chocolate actually has a high percentage of cacao. I decided to give it a try and it was also delicious. Smooth and not too sweet. Even their caramel white chocolate was divine, tasted like dulce con leche; not like the sickeningly sweet white chocolate that you find in big box stores at Easter! A good friend of mine loves dark chocolate covered oranges so I bought her a bar of the Dark Chocolate Orange and can't wait to give it to her! The flavor is intense in a good way, not overpowering, just perfectly paired. I'm giving it to her as a Galentine's gift since a bunch of us are having dinner to celebrate our friendships. I'm so glad I was able to meet the owner; his passion for chocolate is contagious! As if I need more reasons to love chocolate! He shared that Creo offers several tours and classes. I'll be signing up for Make a Bar Tour so I can see how the chocolate is processed and how the bars are made. You even get to make your own custom bar to take home! For $20, that's a great way to spend a few hours. The shop itself is decorated in a natural and sophisticated palette, warm and inviting. The colors inside are all shades of chocolate - hardwood floors, wooden display shelfs adorned with Creo Chocolate bars and samples, plus decorated with dried cacao pods, also for sale. There are handwritten messages on the off white walls. For those wishing to enjoy drinking chocolate or treats there, they have several tables and chairs. It's all very soothing, just like the chocolate! My favorite bars are: Dark Chocolate Orange, Whiskey Dark Chocolate, Milk Chocolate with Cacao Nibs, and Dark Chocolate Mint. In the display case they have a variety of truffles, individual chocolates, chocolate bars (their version of a Twix), and brownies which I have yet to try. For the best selection of Creo Chocolates, and samples, visit their shop on NE Broadway. You can also find selections at The Meadow on NW 23rd and on North Mississippi Ave. Or online at creochocolate.com. Visit this shop, support this family owned business, enjoy their heavenly chocolate. You're welcome!

Yelp
I guess I'm a regular here now? I've been there every week for 2 months according to my credit card statement. My wife fell in love with their sesame chocolate brittle and now I find myself going back over and over just to please her. It definitely has nothing to do with sampling their passion fruit truffles or getting myself some dark chocolate covered pretzels or drinking their hot chocolate after being out on a bike ride in the cold drizzling rain.

Yelp
I did the chocolate tour and made my own bar. So much information on where they source their chocolate, how it is processed into their products, and seeing all of the equipment. I tasted all of their chocolate and spent a few too many dollars buying chocolate. My favorite is the spicy dark. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My first experience of an absolute chocolate-based food place. It was absolute bliss!! I loved the cappuccino here and the ambiance. They make the chocolate from scratch and they have a lot of flavors in the chocolate that's sold. They also have a hot chocolate mix that can be bought. I should say there is something about the cups in which they served the coffee. It was so nice and pleasant. The cost is little over the usual coffee shops but hey it comes with great ambiance. They have these special tours that involves you making your own chocolate bar (Make-a-bar tour). That was interesting. I hadn't tried yet but it's something I wanted to try

Jody J.

Yelp
I have driven past this place so many times then I finally stopped in after I saw them and tasted their very delicious chocolate at a farmers market a couple years ago. I found out they did tours so I scheduled a tour for 20 people. It was $20 per person and included making a chocolate bar of your own. The family owns this place is super nice and they were very accommodating from the minute we walked in. I don't want to spoil the tour for you but it includes a very thorough history of chocolate and chocolate making. Some tasting! And "Yes" you get to make your own bar to take home. Awesome! Check it out.. my favorite is the chocolate mint bar.

Yelp
Quant storefront with friendly workers and beautifully displayed chocolates. If I ever think to gift chocolates, I'll definitely come by here.

Yelp
Such a wonderful experience! There are samples of the chocolate out and each one was unique and delicious. I was craving a brownie so I went with the Fudgy Nib Brownie for $4 and it did not disappoint! Perfectly baked. The lady working the front was super nice and gave us a great overview of the making of the chocolate.

Yelp
I love this place - it is one of the last Portland-made truffle stores. Bars are spectacular - get the caramelized white chocolate, you won't even believe it is white chocolate. I just wish they still had the cafe and beverages.

Yelp
Excellent, high end chocolates made from cocoa beans! Enough said. Worth every penny. Tastes so SO fancy. Some of the best chocolates we've ever tried.

Yelp
Just did a tour here and it was not what I was expecting the tour guide did not answer people questions and did not explain things well, it felt like he had to be there and didn't care how our experience was. He is also not funny at all but thinks he is which just made people uncomfortable. Could have just been a bad day

Emily A.

Yelp
Tim was amazing! Offered tastes of all his amazing chocolates! The dark chocolate orange, coconut and spice were my favorites.

Yelp
Very worthwhile chocolate tour experience, hands-on and lots of tastings! Run by a very sweet family. Really glad we made this stop on our last Portland trip.

Yelp
From an Ecuador farmer by direct trade to a PDX chocolatier, see how cacao beans are made into chocolate bars. We took a tour of the factory store with the chocolate maker and owner who talked us through the steps from growing the pods and drying cacao beans at the Ecuador farm to making some incredible chocolates through the processes of roast, crack cacao shells, grind, conche, temper, mold and package. It is not easy! But it looks fun! Cuz it's choccccco-late! We walked through the little cafe and factory store to see what equipment Creo invented to perfect the process. Most interesting certainly! Very tasty surely! We tasted various chocolates and enjoyed brewed chocolate. All persons on the tour made their own chocolate bars using ingredients like cacao nibs, ginger, coconut, Fleur de sel, potato chips, sprinkles and other goodies. Making a chocolate bar was fun enough, perhaps, if you do not mind a little chocolate on your finger tips (ha ha). Cuz it's choccccco-late!

Yelp
As a chocolate fan, this place made me happy. I was in town visiting Portland and when finding out that I was staying close by a chocolate shop with such high reviews, I had to visit. The side walls showcase their chocolate bars, flavors like whiskey, coffee, orange, or a classic dark or milk. They each have little containers for sampling. The prices for the bars range from $9-$10. They also have containers with sipping chocolate as well, those have steeper prices around the $18 mark. Something to remember though is that it's all made in house so the higher price is worth it. I got a case of 5 truffles (about $12) and then two chocolate bars: whiskey and orange. The whiskey chocolate was crazy... you could really taste the flavor of the whiskey (no alcohol in it). I'm usually not a fan of chocolate and orange together but trying a sample of it won me over. You can book tours here as they are a full factory, call ahead to make a reservation. The two women who worked there were incredibly helpful and kind. They not only told us more about their chocolate and recommended certain flavors, but also gave us hiking recommendations too.

Yelp
My husband shopped here for Valentines chocolate. The order came with all my favorites. We did a telephone order at the holidays and the packaged arrived nicely. This is a family run business doing a great job of roasting and processing their cacao beans. They know exactly where the products come from. The chocolates they make are the BEST!

Yelp
The hot chocolate here is THE BEST. My friend bought my a tin once when I still lived in New York, and I couldn't stop raving about it. It was the Mayan Spice Chocolate. I liked it so much that I ordered several more of their tins online and even paid like $20 for shipping so that I could continue to indulge. Was so happy to finally stop in their real storefront. They make their hot chocolate on site and it's delicious. Their shop does tours and it's a nice place to just sit and relax a bit. They do samples of their chocolates in the shop as well, and I definitely recommend giving some of the chocolates a try.

Yelp
This place is soo cool, its also part of the food tour. A block away from the Crown hotel, I decided to check it out. They literally make all the stuff in there. Its a tiny factory! COOOOOOOL They have tiny pieces of chocolate to try, of course I tried them all, expect the wasabi one. Not a big fan of mixing those two things. **** apparently I can't read and read wasabi like a dummby. Darn I didn't try it, I guess it's a kind of monkey opps lol Somehow I ended up spending $60 on chocolate bars. Don't ask me why lol I'm not a big chocolate person but the combos were pretty good. I loved the raspberry dark chocolate and the whiskey chocolate. Everything they offer is Chocolious, but expect to pay a little more than usual. Everyone inside was very friendly

Yelp
We came here for the chocolate tour which lasted a little over an hour. I learned so much about the chocolate making process from harvesting the cacao beans to creating cocoa powder. We had to wear hair nets and an apron during the tour. The tour, led by Janet, was engaging and she was very knowledgeable in creating chocolate from scratch. You can immediately see her passion for chocolate from the way she talks about it. The tour had about 12 people which was a lot in my opinion because we could barely fit in the kitchen. Nevertheless, we had the opportunity to create our own chocolate bar with a custom mold that Janet created. The mold was specifically designed to enhance the chocolate eating experience due to it's shape and how it fits your mouth. We added our own toppings to the chocolate such as m&ms, ginger rocks, and blueberries. The overall experience was super fun and I definitely recommend doing the tour! If not, their hot chocolate drinks is bomb too.

Yelp
Fantastic chocolate tour given by Janet the chocolate maker, herself. I was interested in the tour because a) I love chocolate, b) factory tours are awesome and so informative, and c) Creo makes some of the best local (and all around) dark chocolate I have tasted. Our tour was a nice intimate group of 8 gathered around the cozy back area of the shop. The tour started with a tasting of chocolate (of course) and then a fantastic presentation on the process of chocolate making, sourcing beans, and a tasting of cacao juice. I have done several chocolate tours (Theo and a few in Costa Rica) so this part was pretty standard. What really sets this tour apart from others is the passion that radiates from Janet when she explains the story of how Creo came to be and what they are all about. Oh yes, and of course the chance to make and take home your own bar is awesome. You get to learn about her family's chocolate making journey and the stories behind the different flavors of bars. You get to see all the steps from the the dried beans they receive to the end product, a bar of chocolate. Almost every machine and step has a story. Creo chocolate truly is craft chocolate and now I understand the love that went into each handcrafted bar. The tour fee of $20 really is a steal. And it's great you can book ahead online. Between making a full sized bar (retail ~$10), the samples (5ish on the tour + a piece of chocolate covered caramel + the other samples in the store), you certainly get your money's worth and much more. As for the chocolate, I love their plain 73% dark and 100% dark. They are so smooth and fragrant. The sea salt chocolate coated caramel I tasted on the tour was hands down the best caramel I've ever had. It's no wonder it's an award winner. The whiskey milk chocolate was also surprisingly good. And that's coming from someone who doesn't like milk or sweet chocolate. For white chocolate lovers, they have 3 very interesting and delicious flavors as well. If you are visiting or a Portlander, definitely check out Creo chocolate. Besides eating delicious chocolate and treats, you are also supporting a family owned local business. It's a no brainer!

Yelp
I went here on a whim after seeing the sign from the road. I grabbed a bar for my chocolate addicted grandma that benefits a patient with breast cancer (grandma herself is a survivor). It's awesome how they offer samples of all of the bars. The staff was helpful and explained about the tour, which I signed up for with my mom. We had a great time learning about cacao and the chocolate making process. We also got to sample cacao bean, cacao juice, brewed cocoa beans, and of course chocolate. We got to take home a bar we decorated, which was fun. I definitely recommend the tour! One of the owners gave the tour and she was passionate about her craft.

Yelp
Decadent does not even come close to describing this experience of a lifetime! One must come here to really experience real freshly-made chocolate! Beware, however, once you have this heavenly encounter, anything else will just be plain and boring! The Batch Bar has won a Good Food Award, and the Twix Bar will have you hating a regular Twix bar in a jiffy! My ultimate experience was the Sipping Chocolate with a Southwest Mint. In addition to the cup of pure hot chocolate, you are served with a glass of decadent whipped cream and another class of seltzer water (to cleanse the palette). Though there is no wrong way to enjoy it, I like to get a dab of whipped cream and dunk it into the chocolate to get a nice creation of sweet and bitterness. WOWEEE! Pure heaven! Everything we tried was simply a delight. Make this a must place to visit in

Yelp
I feel I should start this review by stating that I am not the biggest fan of sweets. That being said, this place is one I would absolutely recommend checking out! Creo Chocolate is a small family owned business and the owners clearly take great pride in their work and love what they do. If you are in need of something fun and different to do with out of town guests I would recommend their factory tour. They provide some fantastic information about how chocolate is grown and harvested and they explain some of their unique chocolate making processes. The tour concludes with making your very own chocolate bar! This entails getting collocate poured into a mold, evening it out, and adding some tasty extras (salt, hot pepper, potato chips, dried raspberries, candies ginger...etc.). You even get to make a label to slap on your finished product. If you don't have time for a factory tour they also sell coffee, cookies, gelato, brownies, and some fancy chocolaty snacks. Overall, a fabulous Portland business!
