The Best Restaurants In and Around Lakeview | Eater New Orleans

"Creole Creamery has made a name for itself throughout Louisiana since Bryan Gilmore and team began turning out insanely good ice cream in Uptown in 2004. Now with three area locations and one in Bay St. Louis, a rotation of creative flavors like black and gold crunch, lavender honey, Creole cream cheese, and Thai basil coconut draw regulars. Summer usually brings blueberry pie ice cream and winter marks the arrival of king cake ice cream." - Beth D’Addono

Google
Amazing ice cream place! This place closes at 10pm, fairly late for a late night sweet treat. There's free street parking and a few 30 min parking slots right in front of their door. Their menu is extensive for an ice cream shop, including coffee and affogato. I also like their variety of relatively unique ice cream flavors. I tried black and gold crunch but that just tasted like vanilla. I wound up getting half a scoop of honey and pandan leaf and half a scoop of lavender honey. Both flavors tasted amazing!! The lavender honey really suited my tastes, and both had a strong sweet flavor. It was just like the floral scent.

Google
Creole Creamery is ice cream paradise! They have everything, traditional flavors, unorthodox flavors, special concoctions of sundaes, and affogatos. Creole Creamery has the ice cream for you, whoever you are. The service is always great and the place is always busy with guests because it’s so good. I recommend the peanut butter fudge pie ice cream 😋

Google
From my dollar the best ice cream in NOLA. The flavors rotate, there's always something different. The locations are consistent and always in good areas and the staff is always easy to deal with. The only drawback is sometimes there's a line because the ice cream is so delicious. The one thing I wish they did different was change the cones up or put sprinkles and chocolate on the cones. Don't forget to read the wall and try all the different varieties of Sundays and ice cream deliciousness.

Google
The ice cream was amazing, but I’d suggest coming here when you aren’t in a rush as there was a line both times I visited. I waited about 20 mins, but the ice cream is well worth it. Someone in our group tried the Tchoupitoulas challenge - finishing a sundae made with eight scoops of ice cream, eight toppings plus whipped cream, cherries, and wafers. Sadly, he didn’t finish it so he won’t make the hall of fame, but I had so much fun watching him try.

Google
Got the salted caramel with marshmallow fluff and it was delicious! They had so many flavors I want to go back and try on top of some wild ice cream sundae options.

Google
We enjoy coming here to check out what new flavors they have and sometimes what creative and silly flavors are on special. I love the banana varieties in a milkshake. Can’t really beat it. The line does get pretty long on busy nights like Fridays and Sundays. It goes by fast, though. The quality of the ice cream is high and the staff is courteous and professional.

Google
The desserts were lovely, had a cookie sundae and it was great. The interior is a little tired and doesn't seem that welcoming but the service and food make up for it.

Rachel Grace

Google
By far a new favorite. This place has flavors I never heard of before. I loved the honey lavender and magnolia flavors. Both refreshing floral flavors. They also didn't mind that I taste tested all the others too. They have large scoops, floats and splits that all give you a bank for your buck, too. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
If I could give them ten stars I would. Every time I'm in New Orleans I have to get their ice cream daily!!! The creole cream cheese with chocolate ice cream or the NO saints ice cream or a soda made with hummingbird syrup! You can't go wrong

Sharon F.

Yelp
Different ice cream flavors, excellent suggestion by Laura, she was super ! And on point with recommending lemon icebox pie flavor, it was so good ! We'll be back !

Yelp
My brow lady's suite is located next door and every time I have an appointment with her, I smell the goodness of Creole Creamery. I usually am able to walk right past, but I decided to treat myself today. I was the only customer there at the time. The employees "spoke" when I entered and let me try samples of different flavors. I am usually a vanilla or strawberry kinda woman, but today I decided to try a Lavender honey milkshake. The milkshake did not even make it to my destination!

Yelp
Always have the best ice cream, staff at times can be rude and miserable looking. When going to an icecream shop, one expects happy and friendly employees and this is not the case during the evening shift.
google avatar

Yelp
TL;DR - don't miss this place! Off the beaten path, but 100% worth it! Get a burger at Junior's first, then come here for a sweet treat. The waiter at Junior's recommending getting ice cream from here, and I don't turn down recommendations from locals! This is some of the best ice cream I've ever had. It's worth going off the beaten path to get here. It's small-ish inside, located in a very odd residential area. It's very clean and the line moves quickly, with kind staff working behind the counter. Add this place to your list when in NOLA!

Yelp
Favorite location! Red velvet cake ice cream is a treat- also really love the black & gold crunch. Staff is always so friendly.

Yelp
I had no idea there was a Creole Creamery on this side of town. I was attending a repast next door at the hall and noticed several folks eating ice cream cones. I initially though that there was ice cream available at the event and was fervently trying to hunt it down with no luck. Finally, a friend and I went outside to get some fresh air and BAM! It was such a welcomed treat on such a heavy day. It's hard to be sad while eating ice cream especially when you're indulging in the creamy, decadent flavors at Creole Creamery. We split a four scoop sampler and it was the perfect size for two and a great way to get a taste of the options. We went with red velvet, Sanderson Sisters, black and gold, and Udder Butter. All of them were fantastic, but I highly recommend checking out the Sanderson Sisters while it's in season. It's tastes like fall on a spoon with piece of ginger snaps and blondies mixed into a butter scotch base. The staff was awesome and answered all of our questions graciously and serviced everyone quickly and kindly.

Yelp
TL;DR: Put this stop on your dessert go-to list for NOLA. It is worth going at least a bit out of your way to cross that off your list. Creole creamery is for sure one of my all-time favs and a must-stop for people that want ice-cream in New Orleans. People often say that Sucre is the stop to make; I think this place beats out Sucre. They have unique flavors that are almost always go over well for me. There are three locations, and the one in Lakeview is the one I frequent most. The neighborhood area is gorgeous and makes for a wonderful place to stroll after you've grabbed your treat. Every shop that I have been to in this location reflects the culture of high expectation with aesthetics and service, and this stop is no different. The staff has been friendly with each of my visits. Each visit will be a bit unique. The line moves a bit slower than average because people get overwhelmed with the new flavors that rotate through, and a number of factors will influence the flavor rotation--holidays, season, etc.

Courtney H.

Yelp
There was a great variety of various flavors. You had a good selection. It's hard to choose which one would be best nice friendly staff, and clean environment to cool off on a hot day.

Yelp
We were looking for a late night snack and The Creole Creamery just kept looking better and better every time I read about it. We arrived slightly after 8PM and at that moment it was slow, then, the crowd poured in but the two young ladies behind the counter were so efficient and cool. I had to go with the Bittersweet Chocolate and Creole Cream Cheese, my lady went with Bittersweet Chocolate also and Café au lait. The flavors were amazing and made for an enjoyable finishing touch on our evening. The place was spotless (except for the kid letting ice cream drip) and the crowd was patient and positive. If we get the ice cream cravings again, we will be back!

Yelp
Great icecream but workers are super rude! Website says they close at 10 but I came at 9 & workers ignored us and didn't let us in. Amazing icecream but terrible workers. Do better pls
google avatar

Crystal P.

Yelp
I've been to the other location so when I saw this one I was like we have to go! We all enjoyed our delicious ice cream. Either location is just as good.
google avatar

Yelp
Yumm! Try the Lavender Honey if you like lavender. Really great ice cream with many different flavors and options.
google avatar

Yelp
Always try the seasonal and temporary flavors is a must. But I know that we have a few favorites like the red velvet cake one and Cookie Monster just to name some. I did liked their flaming jack-o-lantern that they had for Halloween time with espresso, chocolate and I forgot what else but it was delicious. Remember they do half scoops too if you want to split the flavors but don't want to get all the extra fats from 2 scoops, but I know that every once in blue moon (month) you can get that double scoop.

Yelp
*Creole Creamery is the best ice cream shop around. * If they have some super chocolate with stuff flavor available. Who am I kidding, even if they don't it is the best. But if they have a flavor like "Wakey Wakey Chocolate Cakey" you are in for a treat. This location is in Lakeview. Parking is at a premium. But it is the same at all of the other locations. Find a spot. It will be worth it. I stopped here after a day at City Park with my youngest. When she asked me where we were going after eating BBQ and I told her, her response was that it was "very on-brand of me to go to Creole Creamery". In my defense, I rarely get ice cream and the kids love the place. But, I cannot resist the super chocolate flavors. The aforementioned WWCC was phenomenal. Like so phenomenal I would have eaten a half gallon had it been available. If you have kids or if you are an ice cream fan, go to Creole Creamery. You won't regret it.

Yelp
This is the place to be after dinner! Buzzing with folks of all ages so try to get here a little early or late. I love this location, feels like a fun community ice cream parlor. So many new inventive flavors and you can get 6 miniscoops for $9 to try a bunch of flavors. Magnolia flower was great, and we also tried chocolate amaretto cheesecake, golden summer fig, salted smoky chocolate almond, strawberry crème fraiche sorbet, and others. Best ice cream parlor in the country! And it's not ridiculously expensive like other places on the west or east coast.

Yelp
I really don't have any complaints for Creole Creamery. No notes! Except, the parking isn't that great. Creole has been around for so long and I have to get it every time I'm back in NOLA. My favorite one they have usually year round is the lavender honey. I think the lavender isn't too strong and it's not too sweet. This flavor made me realize I'm def a floral gal when it comes to ice cream because I love their rose flavor as well. Their cafe au lait is also so good! I recommend getting the mini scoops of 4 if it's your first time. It's more than enough for two people. Service is always young people and they're usually pretty nice and attentive. Don't be shy and def ask for samples!
google avatar

Yelp
Great service and ice cream selection! Place was cleaned and all the employees were nice and helpful. Allowed us to try a couple ice creams to make sure we found what we wanted. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Theresa K.

Yelp
I went here on a Friday evening and it was packed with people. After I received my ice cream I can see why. The staff was extremely friendly and quick. They didn't rush you to make a decision, and let you try the different flavors. I got the waffle cone with two flavors (black and gold and Cookie Monster). Both of the flavors were soooooo good, and the pricing was reasonable. I will definitely be a frequent visitor of the ice cream shop!

Yelp
I'm so glad my cousin brought me here! Thank you Chantel for introducing me to the Lavender honey... Ohh my goodness. This place is a game changer in the ice cream world . So yummy :)
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Cute creamery! I had the Cafe Au Lait that tastes like the coffee with chicory in it. There are a ton of flavor options for their ice creams and other drinks and goodies on their menu! There was ample seating even though there was a line at 8:00pm on a Monday. The Cafe Au Lait isn't quite as sweet. 1 scoop is just about enough for me. Arguably it could be less since I'm not a sweets kind of person.

Yelp
Bougie Ice Cream Alert!!!!! My sister found this spot after my niece wanted to have ice cream for dessert. The location is away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's in an odd building with an odd entrance. They have a very eclectic menu. The one flavor I saw on their website (you know helpers be checking out the menu before hand) and wanted to try wasn't available. I went with the Cornbread Sorghum Streusel which was a recommendation of one of the employees. It was a complex flavor combination but I enjoyed it. My nibblings got cookies and cream. They basic but basic always works. There was too much ice cream for me and the nibblings to finish so my dad helped out. Definitely give them a try!! The Creole Creamery 6260 Vicksburg St New Orleans, LA 70124 (Review 599 overall, 143 in 2021)

Yelp
Stumbled on this spot and couldn't resist! Glad we did. Tons of flavors and options with sundaes, cones, etc. I highly recommend the sampler as you can get 4 or 6 scoops with different flavors. Feel free to get a sample before the sampler as they offer tiny tastes so you can choose your mix widely. Really enjoyed the Black and Gold (was HIGHLY recommended by the group in front of us) and Sweater Weather (a seasonal option). The Lavender and Honey was a nice everyday option. They check vaccination for dine in, which is comforting. Since your at the counter trying samples, it may make more sense to check these details before taking masks off and tasting as well.

Yelp
Mhhmmm I love this place! & so does the community bc the place is usually packed. Do worry tho, the servers get you in & out quickly. The ice cream is so good...I felt like a kid in a candy store with all the unique flavors & their very special names lol 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
If I'm eating ice cream, I only want creole creamery. Their ice cream always hits the spot. The staff is always kind, friendly and patient when I want to taste all of the flavors! ;) the flavors are always to creative and delicious. Even the ones that I think I won't like, I end up liking. Next time I go I want to try one of their affagottos.
google avatar

Camryn P.

Yelp
Excellent service and the ice cream is delicious! They have lots of different flavors available. My favorites are the florals - magnolia flower, lavendar honey, jasmine & white tea. They have a few tables, but it's usually PACKED in here, so be mindful if you are coming with a group!
google avatar

Kimberly C.

Yelp
What a delightful little ice cream shop. We got to taste the deliciousness before you bought. Creamy, tangly, smooth. We enjoyed every single melt on your mouth spoonful.

Yelp
Swung by this location of the Creole Creamery on our walk through Lakeview. They had a few flavors I've never tried before! We got the double scoop on a waffle cone ($7). First up, the lavender honey. It was a purple colored homogenous ice cream, where you could really taste both the honey and the lavender. It was delicious!! The honey was mild in flavor, so it was not sickly sweet. You would think that the lavender scent might be too strong, but it complimented the honey perfectly without it being overwhelming at all. Very refreshing for something as unhealthy as ice cream! Next, the goat cheese and mission fig flavored scoop. I was hesitant to try it since I don't love goat cheese, so I asked for a sample first. And, I loved it! This one had fig bits mixed in (so not homogenous) with the ice cream itself being goat cheese flavored (I think, I didn't run into any chunks of goat cheese hahaha). I would say the goat cheese flavor was more like cream cheese flavor than goat cheese, really. Usually, goat cheese is a little more pungent, but this ice cream was like the creole cream cheese flavored ice cream with figs in it. Anyway, sorry to disappoint anyone that really likes goat cheese, but I enjoyed this a lot! Swing by this location, it's in a wonderful neighborhood perfect for a little walk!
google avatar

Noyonima H.

Yelp
Underwhelming. They sell ice cream mixed with other things, the cream itself doesn't seem to be flavored. I asked for their fruit forward ice cream of the season, the girl said everything they make is seasonal. Yet, the strawberry ice cream did not taste fruit forward or have a punch, just more blended base ice cream with chunks of tasteless berries. I had high expectations of their lemon doberge cake, which failed as well - it was an ice cream with no lemon flavor in it other than the bites of lemon cake mixed in. The ice cream itself did not really the bar, definitely recommend Sucré over this joint. I do not recommend at all, go to Sucré instead for quality flavored ice cream.

Yelp
Creole creamery is one of the best, if not the best Ice cream shop in the City. Always delicious ice cream, do not come here if you're worried about your calorie intake though lol. I usually get the coffee and or roasted pistachio ice cream flavors but today I decided to try a shake. I've been here many time but today was the very first time I tried their shake, I had the king cake flavor. It was soooo good with just the right amount of king cake in each spoonful. Seriously the best shake I've ever had. The only thing I'm mad about is that I didn't try this sooner. I also tried the champagne sorbet, they only have this flavor around new year. It was ok, don't think I 'll be getting it again but I'm glad I got to try it. Note: during the pandemic only 6 customers are allowed in at a time so be prepared for a short wait. #NeatToBe2021Elite

Yelp
Delicious ice cream and freshly made waffle cones! It is a small location, but we always get ours to go anyway so no problem for us! Wonderful spot for the neighborhood!
google avatar

Tori M.

Yelp
Love love love Creole Creamery. Employees are so nice and the hard scoop ice cream is homemade and out-of-this-world delicious. It's a little pricey but honestly, it's worth it for a once in a while treat. So many great creative and seasonal flavors to choose from, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Jes G.

Yelp
This is a great location, with easy parking, and close enough to the Lake that you can take it to go, then park and walk along Pontchartrain for a solid evening out and about. They are always very clean, and the staff here is the friendliest compared to the other CCs nearby. They are good at helping you select flavors, or ideas as to what you might want, and of course you can sample a couple if you're trying to narrow down your options. The seating in there is rather limited, as it's smaller than the one in Uptown, but there are great walking locations nearby, or you can hang out outside in your car -- I suppose -- if you're really looking to spread out. The service here is top notch, and so is the facility. They always have at least a little bit of a line, but they move you through expeditiously, and I've never walked away dissatisfied with the product or the people. Great stop for ice cream, shakes sundaes, affogatos, etc. Plus, they have many seasonal flavors, so they're always encouraging you to come back and try something different. Worth the cost, and the visit!
google avatar

Katelynn B.

Yelp
Ice cream is always a good idea! I love coming here when I'm craving something sweet. The quality of the ice cream is really good and creamy. There's always new flavors rotating so there's something for everyone in the family! I always end up getting red velvet. It's the best. I like this location better than the prytania location. The customer service is great. You're able to sample flavors and look around without being rushed. Also, if you want to dine in, you have to show your vaccination card.
google avatar

Scarlett M.

Yelp
Went here on a Wednesday night around 9:00 p.m. Because of the pandemic they're not currently allowing dine-in, but it was a nice night so I sat outside to eat. I imagine pre-pandemic that they got packed pretty quickly because they're dining area is kinda small. I decided I wanted to try some of the unusual flavors on the menu, so I ordered the four scoop mini sampler and randomly picked four strange sounding flavors. I ended up getting molasses oatmeal cookie, flaming jack-o'-lantern, pear & balsamic caramel, and lavender honey. The sample ended up costing $5 even, which seemed like a fair enough price. The first two flavors I tried - pear and lavender honey - didn't impress me. I found them to be very understated, almost to the point where I had to really "look" for the flavor. That's probably a good thing in regards to the lavender honey flavor since I don't really like flower flavors. However, the pear & balsamic caramel was disappointing because I couldn't taste pear. The next two flavors were thankfully stronger. Flaming Jack-o'-lantern was a coffee flavor. I don't really like coffee, but mixing it with the Pear mellowed it nicely. The Molasses Oatmeal Cookie was my favorite; I think I like the ice cream version better than the actual cookies as I could even tolerate the raisins that were sprinkled within it. I'm not a fan of going to ice cream stores for traditional flavors, so the large, frequently changing selection of non-traditional flavors makes Creole Creamery worth checking out.

Kelli T.

Yelp
I love the creative flavors and the cones are delicious!my absolute favorite is the salted caramel and the spicy chocolate. They. Did not have the spicy chocolate so I got the bittersweet chocolate and it was delicious too.
google avatar

Roger P.

Yelp
I don't know how busy it usually gets but there was no one when we visited. There's a tiny parking lot in front of the store but if that's full, there was plenty of street parking. The worker that helped us was patient and explained all of their unique flavors. We wanted to try everything and there was no limit to how many samples we could try. But I finally settled on brown butter pecan. I loved the chunks of pecan and the ice cream itself wasn't too sweet. I think their ice cream is a bit creamier than other places. It's also really cheap compared to California and their single scoop is decently big, like I couldn't really finish it. They even let us do split scoops for free too! Wish I was there more often to try their seasonal flavors.
google avatar

Rachel W.

Yelp
Maybe the best quality ice cream on earth..? We have tried so many small ice cream places across the country and consider ourselves ice cream fanatics But in all seriousness, we always come back to Creole Creamery as the best of the best. And who could be surprised, New Orleans is the food capital of planet Earth! Jeni's ain't got *nothin* on Creole Creameries

Christina R.

Yelp
Very good ice cream and creative flavors! The double is a lot of ice cream they definitely aren't shy but easily can eat it all! Very busy but line moves quickly. The petit four ice cream is for sure worth a try!
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
One of my favorite icecream spots in the city! The workers are really friendly & you can try samples of the flavors. The inside could use a little upgrade for a modern look but not bad. My favorite thing to order is the mini icecream sampler. You get to pick multiple mini scoops of different flavors if you can't decide on one flavor or like a variety in one sitting.
google avatar

Courtney L.

Yelp
Samples are back and I couldn't be happier! :') Unlike the location on Prytania, this location DOES accept card ($5 minimum). On my most recent visit, they sadly didn't have my favorite go-to flavor (Black & Gold Crunch) but after taking some samples, I went with their Cafe Au Lait. As always, I love that they let you split a single scoop ($3.75) into two half scoops of two different flavors. Staff is friendly, tables (if you can snag one) are clean -- no complaints!
google avatar

Helene S.

Yelp
Eat Ice Cream. Be Happy. Black and Gold. Cookie Monster. Cafe au Lait. Creole Cream Cheese. Lavender Honey. With so many choices, how can you not be happy? Went for late night ice cream with friends. Sampled too many flavors. Nice to be able to split two flavors in a cup. The salted caramel was so smooth. Loved the creamy cashew butter with dark chocolate. And of course, brought home a pint of Cookie Monster for the kids.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
This is an odd location a bit off the main road, but it is close enough that the nearby neutral ground (local slang for a median) makes for nice outdoor seating with your ice cream. This outlet has seemingly fewer flavors than the Uptown location, but it's not a small selection by any means. It's 100% ice cream, not much in the way of non-dairy alternatives. Their flavors vary widely; the bittersweet chocolate is quite nice but the fig flavor I tried on top of it just wasn't that strong for me. Overall, you'll do well.
google avatar

Meghan R.

Yelp
Stopped in last night because we were craving ice cream in waffle cones. Very good selection. I'd estimate 16-20 different flavors to choose from. In Addition, they also offer malts, which I heard another customer order. Very friendly staff. Happened to mention that I was intrigued by the fig flavor after already ordering and the employee mentioned if was one of her current fav's and suggested a sample/taste so that I'd know for the future. Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Charis W.

Yelp
DELICIOUS! Wow, I was disappointed we didn't make it around for a second visit during our time in NOLA. The service, prices, and selection of ice creams were all phenomenal. Our server felt bad that we couldn't try any flavors due to COVID, so she gave us each an extra SCOOP for free! The bitter chocolate torte (I think that's what it's called?) was BY FAR one of the best ice creams I've ever had. Super dark, rich, creamy chocolate that tastes like a 75% chocolate bar. The roasted pistachio was also really good, with a pronounced roasted and earthy flavor, and the goat cheese and mission fig flavor was also rich and pungent, just how I like my goat cheese! My friend got the black and gold, Speculoos Christmas Cookie (seasonal), and the cream cheese flavors - all delicious! I'm still dreaming of this ice cream
google avatar

Avani P.

Yelp
The best lavender ice-cream I have had! So creamy, sweet with an amazing lavender honey flavor! Definitely visiting again next time.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
Only two non dairy options. Bummer. The honeydew panda was delicious though. Also tried their affogato with peanut butter fudge and salted caramel. Not bad wouldn't do the peanut butter again. Didn't go well with espresso. Espresso was over powering both flavors still ok. I'll stick to Angelo brocato though.
google avatar

Dan H.

Yelp
Non your run of the mill ice cream. Lot of different exotic flavors. Real Ice Cream made with love!

Yelp
This local favorite is located just off Harrison Blvd, and, as others have emphasized, IS CASH ONLY!! Be prepared, I was not. They have delightful selection of fancy flavors and the old classics too. They allow you as many tastes as it takes to decide from the plethora of gourmet options. One of my favorite menu items is the small-scoop ice cream flight where you can choose 4 or 5 different flavors on the same visit. If I've had cash I would have opted for that up-sell, but I was not prepared and instead got a single scoop mint chocolate chip which was divine and immediately made me feel like I was 5 years old again. Good Stuff.
