"Hands on and demo classes are offered at Crescent City Cooks in the lower French Quarter on Chartres. Both include a meal and the focus is on classic New Orleans and South Louisiana dishes. The cooking school offers daily three-course lunch demos classes from 10 to 12:15 p.m. for $35 or roll up your sleeves and make the likes of dirty rice stuffed peppers and shrimp remoulade for $100-$150 depending on the size of the group. A glass of wine or beer is included." - Beth D'Addono

Had the most amazing cooking class. We made Chicken Fricassee, Seafood Gumbo, and Bananas Fosters. The food was amazing, the staff are warm and welcoming. You feel like you are in their home hanging out in the kitchen while they are making lunch. We learned all about the difference between Creole and Cajun cooking and the different cultural influences that have shaped the wonderful food of New Orleans. I highly recommend this class and will be back the next time we visit the city.

Here on a quick vacay with a friend. We come to NOLA all the time so we wanted to do something different versus the usual Bourbon Street crawl. There were two places that offered hands-on cooking classes but despite the higher price, we decided on Crescent City Cooks! Since we were the first two to sign up for our selected class, we decided the menu. We arrived to find that we were the only two in the class, which was a real bonus. Our instructor, Lin, and her assistant Frank were THE best! We couldn't have gotten luckier to have them. They both had easy going personalities and we learned an awful lot of New Orleans history due to Lin's upbringing and background. The history lessons were a bonus we were not expecting. I learned a lot about cooking that I wouldn’t pick up watch YouTube videos and I feel like I’m ready to go home and replicate the recipes they gave us! Don’t let the price scare you. This class and experience is worth every penny!

Just attended a cooking demonstration class here for Shrimp Creole, Chicken Fricassee, Bread Pudding and Pralines. It was my first time having these dishes and all were amazing. We were given full servings of each dish and were provided the recipes. What a fun experience! I would recommend it for everyone. Thank you!

I just got done with a cooking demonstration and absolutely loved it! We were watching the chef make bread pudding, jambalaya, and chicken and sausage gumbo! All of the food was well described step by step and tasted delicious! I recommend this class to every single person visiting New Orleans! The chef was very charismatic and just made the experience so enjoyable! I'm so glad I decided to sign up while my husband was in a conference! Now I can cook the recipes when I get back home for my family!

Google
Fantastic experience! We selected the hands-on class, which is a must for anyone looking to get the most out of their experience. Our nearly 3-hour long cooking instruction with dining included food history of New Orleans, seafood etouffee and gumbo as well as Bananas Foster for dessert. Our chef, Shava, was the epitome of a Southern gentlemen with such an easy-going, hospitable demeanor that he made my girlfriend and I feel as if we were in his home enjoying yet another afternoon together. Again, I can't say enough good things about the experience, other than it's a must-do for anyone wishing to truly enjoy their visit to NOLA.

Google
This was such a great experience. I attended the etouffee, gumbo, and bananas foster demo. They gave us all the recipes (including their praline recipe) and gave us all a good sized bowl of each dish. Everything was delicious, and the etouffee was one of the best things I've ever eaten. The history lesson of Cajun and Creole food was lovely as well. The freshly made praline to take home was the icing on the cake. No trip to New Orleans will be complete without attending one of their classes.

We had the best time at our cooking class. It's not inexpensive but it's a memorandum experience. The taste differences from the pots made by each participant were fun to try. If you want to learn about NOLA cooking history and the local flavors, sign up for this hands on class. Soooo much fun and an unforgettable trip.

This was our 2nd visit to Crescent City Cooks. We shopped in their store during our stay in New Orleans January 2017, and it was then that I saw they also offered cooking classes. I love NoLa cuisine and thought if I ever had the opportunity to return, I would sign up for the class. Thankfully my husband and I did return last week and we signed up for a Demonstration with Lynn. We had a wonderful time! The dishes Lynn cooked for us were some of our favorites...Jambalaya, Chicken and Andouille Gumbo, and Bread Pudding with Raisins & Rum sauce! (each class differs, so check their calendar and pick your own favorite). The room for the class was very spacious and comfortable. A relaxed, casual and homey setting. The recipes for each dish are provided at the beginning so you can follow along and make notes as you go. Lynn was very entertaining. She is a Louisiana native with lots of family stories and knowledge of Louisiana history. We learned so much from her about the culture of NoLa and the flavors in its cuisine. We enjoyed full servings of each dish, plus a freshly made Praline to take home! (And 10% discount on any items in their shop!) We would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Yelp
We go to new orleans every few years and have been interested in this school, so we took a class this last trip. It was amazing! We made 4 dishes, well...we helped to emotionally support our chef, who made t dishes. Bread pudding, gumbo, jambalaya, can't remember last one. I learned a ton about the agriculture in the area and what grows (and doesn't). We shared a table w a celebrity chef and a charming couple from alabama. Such a great experience, plus we got a roux making utensil that I use all of the time because it's a great tool. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Found myself with a little solo time during a trip to NOLA. I needed a place to beat the heat (so swamp tours were out!) The New Orleans School of Cooking was a quick walk from my hotel and the reviews were great, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did. This was actually the perfect place for a solo adventure. It's also great for families, couples or anyone wanting to have a fun NOLA experience. We waited in the gift shop of the school before entering into the cooking demo area. They allow people in based on when they made their reservation, so if you are wanting a prime spot, I'd say to make your reservation online early! I did the demo class. The round tables in the demo are set up to face the front. Tables were set with utensils and drinks were provided (lemonade, water and beer). I got to try the gumbo, jambalaya and bananas foster. For me, the experience was really about learning how to make the foods. Getting to see the chef in action, I was able to see what parts of the dish were non-negotiables where as you can get a little more creative in other things. I learned a lot and feel confident in my ability to replicate these dishes from home. I bought a seasoning to try it out as well! I had a lovely time with those at my table. Everyone was friendly and there was a great sense of camaraderie around the table! There were guests from across the US as well as New Zealand and Panama when I went! So fun!

Yelp
This is a MUST do for all foodies out there especially if you want to take a piece of New Orleans back with you. When you get to the location...they have a small store that you wait in for class. The lady checking it was a little rough when talking to people checking it. I wasn't aware there were multiple classes so I was afraid all the people waiting was in one class which had me turned off. (I didn't make the reservation for this.) Once it gets close to time your chef will come out and call your name and your group will head to your respective classroom. We had Chef Lynn! . She was amazing!! I loved all the information she shared about New Orleans history before we got started cooking. This is why classes like this is a MUST! You learn things about the city you possibly wouldn't learn on tours. She also taught us ways to recover a messed up dish which we all know will happen. I loved how she had us leave our recipes at the table and just walked us through everything. This allowed you to be attentive in class and not trying to read. She walked around and helped us. I think with it being a small group she definitely was able to help us individually no matter what step we were on. Our group was 8 as 2 didn't show up. It was the perfect size. The stations are set up when you get there. The rooms had drinks such as wine, juice, beer and water. It was a perfect little restaurant. There is also an assistant in the classroom that will help out. She was just there when you needed her when you didn't know you needed her. She as replacing or giving you things you didn't realize you needed. I don't recommend trying to do this if you party the night before or thinking if I land at 8am and class starts at 10 you will make it. You will not. Traffic, waiting on bags etc will happen. This isn't a class something you do when you have a time constraint. Our class did a seafood and okra gumbo, crawfish pie and banana fosters crepe. I definitely recommend taking a class here. Can't wait to return to take another class!

Yelp
Let's face it, you are in New Orleans and you are going to spend money on food. Why not come to the cooking school and make your own meal, learn something, and get fed? A whole evening experience that you will always remember. We had a great time...take a look at the pictures of what we made, drinks (wine or beer, water, lemonade) were included. The ingredients were pre-prepped. Instructor (Joe) was engaging. Do it!

Imelda R.

Yelp
Highly recommend as part of NOLA experience. Cooking demo -class with Miss Pat exceeded our expectations; she gave history of New Orleans / Louisiana based on food /spice influences of brought on by Spain, France, Africa etc. Demo includes food tasting based on what entrees are being demonstrated & coffee/tea/lemonade/beer.

Yelp
I loved my first visit so much that I took my brother and friends to the same class this past weekend to enjoy it as much as I did. We had a different chef/instructor, Harriet, whose humor, sass, and helpful information were priceless. Unlike the first time, I did NOT skip the biscuit and I am so glad I did not. I look forward to using the recipes I got this time and last to make their gumbo to start.

Yelp
New Orleans School of Cooking was one of the attractions on the Go City Pass. Pricing and savings vary on which bundle you get and how many attractions you book, but it's great value. I feel a bit deceived cause I imagined us doing the cooking as a romantic team building date experience, but the experience with the go city pass is more of a show where you watch the chef cook. My boyfriend and I arrived 15 minute prior to the class time as the reservation confirmation email instructed. Their retail storefront was packed and busy. We checked in and waited until it was time for the class. What really worked out for us was that you are seated in the order in which the reservation was made. WE WERE FIRST to enter and choose our seats. I liked the front center table since the view is unobstructed and it was set up for 4 people, so we would only have to deal with 2 strangers. Other tables had 6+ place settings and some of the seats had their backs to the stage, so less optimal. We learned under Chef Suzanne and she had her helper Trudy. They were both fantastic. The Chef was not only cooking but telling us food related cultural stories about New Orleans. Very tourist friendly! All of the people in our cohort were out of state folks visiting. For our class, the chef demonstrated a Corn & Crab Bisque, Chicken Etouffee and Pralines. If you have any food allergies, please let them know and they might be able to accommodate. In our group someone had a shellfish allergy so the chef served them a corn bisque before integrating the crab meat for the rest of the portion. Water, unsweetened tea and rolls were brought to the table. There was self serve lemonade at the front. For the first course there was plenty for some folks to have seconds. I was still full from a prior meal so I only had enough to sample each course. An entertaining experience, despite not being what I expected. The stories were an unexpected treat. I really enjoyed the chef's humor and cultural explanation of the New Orleans cuisine. If you already get the Go City's pass, you might as well check it out for a meal and fun stories.

Yelp
I have been here 3 times but this is the first time I've left a review! We had an AMAZING EXPERIENCE each time. The first time I brought my daughter for her 6 year old birthday. We participated in the watch and learn class. Chef Kevin and the other class participants made it a special and memorable occasion for my daughter. The second time was a work group team building activity where we were paired in groups and prepared a meal. We ate, drank, and had a fun and amazing time. This last time was even more special. I treated my significant other to a nice birthday surprise. He had no idea where we were going which was even more exciting. We ran into some unexpected traffic so I called to let them know we were running late. As a result, we arrived about 15 minutes late. They were very nice and accommodating when we arrived and walked us to our area where the class was. Upon entering, the Chef was welcoming and didn't make us feel bad about being late. We received a history on roux and New Orleans cuisine as well as a brief introduction to the meal we were about to prepare. We made chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, shrimp and grits, and a banana fosters crepe. I hate I can't remember the chefs name but he was a somewhat short Black gentleman with a full beard and New Orleans native. He was amazing. He was knowledgeable, informative, interactive, and comical. We really enjoyed ourselves and my boyfriend was surprisingly pleased. I'd definitely go back again and recommend to others.

Yelp
Our absolute favorite thing we did while in New Orleans for 4 days - hands on cooking with New Orleans School of Cooking! Chef MARIA was FABULOUS and patient. The food was "slide off your seat good". The price is inexpensive once you factor in the 5 star meal you get to eat and priceless once you factor in the experience, fun and recipes you take home. If you are in New Orleans this class is a Must.

Barbra M.

Yelp
We attended an evening cooking class on our last evening in New Orleans. It was hosted by Chef Ricardo who, not only taught us how to cook the dishes, but shared his extensive knowledge of the Cajun &. Creole culture and cuisines in New Orleans and Louisiana. The dishes we cooked, and then ate, were chicken & andouille gumbo, fish almandine, pecan rice and bananas foster. The class had a total of 10 people, and each couple had their own cooking station. Chef led us through each dish step-by-step, and gave interesting and more general cooking tips that will be helpful with other dishes, as well. The evenings included unlimited wine and beer, iced tea and lemonade. We also each got an apron to take away. It was a great experience.

Victoria G.

Yelp
The demo class and tasting was a highlight of the trip. We learned the history of Louisiana and New Orleans cooking. Plus, we were given tips on how to season with the extra spices on the table to make it our own. I enjoyed all of it the way it was presented. I wish I cooked like this.

Michelle D.

Yelp
Always make time for the New Orleans School of Cooking! While the chef teaches you, you can see it all in the mirror above simultaneous to listening , learning, and tasting the courses while they're hot. It is school, entertainment, and a fantastic meal served with water, tea, lemonade, coffee, and Abita beer. You learn how to make 3 local favorites, you dine on each as they are done, and there is fascinating local history shared as the cooking goes. They have different types of classes and different foods offered for each class. Whatever you see, whoever the chef, you won't be disappointed! Did I mention it's air conditioned? And they have a fabulous store with tools of the trade, spices and mixes, and plenty of New Orleans tchotchkes. Go to the store even if you aren't going to class, but learning the history of New Orleans and Cajun food while getting full on things like gumbo, jambalaya, étouffée, and pralines. It's way better than a bus ride through town or a cemetery tour.

Taylor G.

Yelp
If you're planning a trip to New Orleans, you MUST book a cooking class at New Orleans School of Cooking. Chef Michael was an incredible storyteller, and we LOVED his demonstration class. This was our first time taking a cooking class while traveling and after this experience, it's an absolute must. Not only did we learn to cook some Cajun staples, we got a whole Louisiana/New Orleans history lesson through food. Incredible!

Jessalyn L.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time doing the hands on cooking class! From start to finish you get to drink, eat, listen to fascinating information about Cajun food and culture, and talk with your chef and others taking the class. Chef Terri was a wonderful host, she made us immediately feel comfortable, and was very helpful when we had questions. After getting to experience so much delicious cooking on our trip, we are so excited to get to make some of it at home, thanks to the School of Cooking!

Melissa H.

Yelp
Chef Terri was so amazing. Learned some great things about culture and we're able to make a delicious meal. We will be back!

Leigh Ann P.

Yelp
Huge thanks to EVERYONE here! From making the reservation, to us arriving late (dammit I am NEVER late, but...um...Mardi Gras got the better of me) to our excellent chef and her assistant, everyone was super friendly and accommodating. We signed up for the hands-on Chicken and Andouille Gumbo, BBQ Shrimp and Grits, Bananas Foster Crepes. My husband and I are both vegetarian (not vegan) which I specified when we made the reservation, and was listed on our email confirmation. When we got there, our cook station was stocked with all vegetarian ingredients, and the chef whipped up some veggie stock for us to use. Honestly, I was surprised how DELICIOUS our gumbo turned out, and absolutely want to try it at home. Totally would recommend. Relaxing, fun, casual, informative, and delicious!

Yelp
Visiting from out of town, we had a team event (over 200) at an awesome venue down on the river. The chef was amazing cooking as we all watched, and served the plate he was making. The appetizers served during happy hour were also amazing. Salad and jambalaya as a prefix, bread pudding and pralines to top it off. One of the reasons I love the city, everything is delicious. The school did an awesome job of showcasing wonderful food, and the spirit of New Orleans! When in town, I always visit the store and get my favorite spices. This was a treat to have it served on multiple dishes with our colleagues. Will plan this event again. next time we're in town! Bonus...recipes weee distributed to all attendees. In a past event with a smaller crowd, we actually cooked a meal together while sipping wine/beer/tea, each a certain recipe, then sat down together for our delicious meal. The school does a great job of hosting and entertaining groups, as well as individual cooking classes.

Ben F.

Yelp
There are several Cooking classes in New Orleans LA The best one in our estimation is the New Orleans school of cooking located at 524 St. Louis Street They only charge $42 per person in the afternoon, and that includes all the gumbo soup and jambalaya that you can eat And believe me, it is the best gumbo I've ever had. Michael also gives you recipes for the gumbo and for the jambalaya and for the pralines Michael, the chief chef - has a masters in history and has taken numerous Cooking classes in his career He mixes historic stories while he's fixing the most delicious food you can get in New Orleans Fantastic experience, and I would highly recommend it. A great way to spend several hours in New Orleans Ben

Mary M.

Yelp
This was one for the books! Cookbooks that is... We had a great time at The New Orleans School of Cooking! Mike was a great instructor with fun facts, stories, and Googleable(Mike says it's a word, lol) history of the cuisine and New Orleans. The good was excellent! Next time we book this experience, we're going for the package that includes cooking time. Can't wait!

Mina H.

Yelp
We got to experience a cooking demo (which includes eating the food that was cooked!) with Vivian, the "Culinary Gypsy". This was a fantastic experience! I HIGHLY recommend it! Most of the students in the class were tourists, but there were a few locals too. Even if you live here, unless you're a seasoned New Orleans cook, you will probably learn a lot! The class lasts about 2 hours, but it's not all cooking. Vivian tells you about herself a little bit, but she also gives you a good dose of local history too. It might be common knowledge for those who grew up in the city, but for a transplant like me, I found it interesting! For this course, she showed us how to make a: *Crab and corn bisque *Chicken etouffee *Pralines (BTW, I learned that the correct pronunciation is "prah-linhs" not "prah-leens") The cooking demo itself was fantastic. She prepared a lot of it beforehand (cutting vegetables, preparing the meat, cooking the roux to a darker color, etc.) to cut down on the amount of time it would take to create all 3 items. However, you don't miss much of anything because she still goes over each step and shows you all of the important parts! For example, she pre-made a dark roux to use for the chicken etouffee, but she showed us how to make a blonde roux and explained that it just needs to be cooked for about an hour more to get the darker color. She talks about every step and explains thoroughly on how to best complete each task too while dispensing tons of tips and tricks. I loved that there was an angled mirror on the ceiling, which let you see the counter top. The angled mirror is best seen at the middle of the classroom, so don't sit too close or too far! Then, the eating. OMGGGGGG everything was SO delicious!!! She sure knows what she's teaching!! Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked, you didn't really need any of the seasoning/sauces that were available at your table. And, the best part is, they don't skimp on portions here! You'll go home full! There was enough for everyone in the class to have seconds of everything if they wanted. On my way out, I bought their "Joe's Stuff" seasonings. Believe me, it beats out Tony's by miles! "Joe's Stuff" is packed full of flavor, but it has very little salt content. You can add a ton to your food, and it won't make your dish saltier!

Meri L.

Yelp
This was an amazing experience and I highly recommended anyone and everyone visiting NOLA to do this. There are two options available; a demo and a full hands on experience. My boyfriend and I went with the demo. Our menu consisted of gumbo, jambalaya, bananas foster and pralines! Plus some biscuits. Our chef for the day (I forgot her name!) was amazing! She provided lots of info as she was cooking for us. It was like watching Food Network...but live. There are mirrors on the ceiling which makes it easier to watch and have a birds eye view of the pots and pans. The room filled with delicious smells..we couldn't wait to eat! Although this was about food and cooking, she also provided lots of Louisiana history. Everything was delicious. We each got a good amount of a food. It wasn't an entree size...but it was definitely more than just a tasting or a bite. We were there for about 2-ish hours. There's also a store where you can purchase different seasonings, spices, hot sauces and more. The menu changes daily, both for the hands on experience and for the demo. This is definitely something you can do multiple times and have a different experience.

Amy C.

Yelp
Was there March 19 for the cooking school. Way over crowded. 68 guest crowded into a small room. Only had 2 servers for all 68 people. The servers were not happy for the over booking and neither was the host. The host and servers were tremendous!!! The owner or whoever books the classes are greedy and inconsiderate of the guests, just wanting $$$ and nothing more. I've been to this same cooking school in January 2023 and it was wonderful!! Nowhere near 68 people that day. I don't see how it would pass fire code nowadays. I would love to go back for the experience and the food, but will definitely ask how many will be booked before buying tickets.

Stewie V.

Yelp
I rarely consider things a must do, but this is a MUST DO, specially if you're a foodie. For about $40 I got a cooking demo by a lovely grandma chef, who was charming, charismatic, and super funny. She tells you exactly what ingredients she uses to make the food and answers any questions you may have throughout the process. Free beer + refreshments available through the demonstration. Food was absolutely delicious and you can get seconds. Food for the day: Refreshments: Ice Tea, Lemonade, Beer, Water. We started with a delicious freshly made warm biscuit. Then had Gumbo, Cornbread, Rice and Red Beans. And for dessert Pralines and Pecan Pies. Trust me you will pay a lot more eating out and it will not be as good as the food at this demo class. Treat this like a dining out experience. Things to note. There are 2 classes one is a Demo where you watch the chef and the other is a Hands-On class where you make the food yourself along the chef. I chose the Demo. Depending on the day the menu is different so check their menu and try to book a few days ahead and this is a popular activity.

John C.

Yelp
Really fun cooking demo where the instructor shows you how to make all of the iconic Cajun cuisine. You also get stories, anecdotes, and local stories of New Orleans from the Instructor as well. Highly recommend this fun and tasty show. You also get a local beer and a full meal as part of the cooking demo

Charity A.

Yelp
A must do for any foodie visiting NOLA! The school has both a hands on option where you cook your own food with the help of a chef, or a cooking demonstration option where the chef cooks the food and while walking you through the history of it and the history of NOLA. Either option will leave you stuffed with the best food in NOLA. And yes, they give you seconds and sometimes thirds! Our instructor was great and indulged us with not only the history of NOLA, but also with the history of the food she's grown up cooking her whole life. And, it was all better than any of the restaurants I've tried this week! I also want to give a shout out to Beverly for being the hero in the dining room who keeps the food moving and the show going.

Giselle A.

Yelp
Went in to try the pralines. Stepped over a cockroach crawling on the floor. Walked out. I get that it's the South, I do, but it just was kind of gross and made me lose all thoughts of purchasing food from this place.

Courtney P.

Yelp
On a recent work trip to New Orleans, I had some extra time on my hands so I decided to take a hands-on cooking class. My dad had taken a class here before and highly recommended it. They offer both hands-on and observation-only courses. I cannot recommend the hands-on cooking course enough! Chef Cindy was our instructor and our small group of 8 enjoyed learning about the history and differences between Cajun and Creole cuisines. The course came with bottomless mimosas, beer, wine, or Bloodmary's. After the introductions and history, we jumped right in to making our first dish, corn and crab bisque. This course is great for cooks of all levels - in my group, there were beginners all the way to more experienced home-cooks. Chef Cindy took the time to explain each step and reasoning for certain techniques, as well as tips and tricks. After the bisque, we moved onto our main course: beef roulades with cheesy grits and a poached egg. Hearty, decadent and satisfying. Perfect comfort food! To finish things off, we learned how to make Bananas Foster's. They also have a storefront that sells all things kitchen and Cajun and creole cuisine; spices, sauces, seasonings, etc. I cannot wait to come back and take another course the next time I am in town.

Yelp
Was introduced to these Pralines when I was in New Orleans. I love Pecans so I was excited to try them out! Yummy sweet treat to savor. I prefer the traditional original Pralines over the chocolate flavor.

Karen F.

Yelp
I have recommended this school/these classes to any friend that I hear is planning a trip to NOLA. At this point, I've probably taken about 5 different classes myself. I think they might be having trouble finding chefs though, because my last couple of classes have been nowhere near as great as my first few classes were when I first started going. The skill and ability of the chefs, as well as the amazing local stories they used to tell, are just not there. This most recent visit we did the Friday class so as to have only meatless options. On the menu was Crawfish Etouffee, Shrimp and Artichoke Soup, Bread Pudding, and Pralines. Everyone was served a fresh biscuit first, which might have been the best part of the meal. Our chef started off okay, and the shrimp and artichoke soup was good, if served only lukewarm. The crawfish etouffee was so bland that even hot sauce could barely make a dent. She was so focused on that, she forgot about the bread pudding in the oven, so it was borderline burnt when it came out. And the pralines came out a soupy, gritty mess. Some people got to have a ready-made one from the store-those looked good-but I got stuck with her terrible one. I wish there was an option to choose which chef you wanted, versus just what food you wanted to make. I would prefer to make my decision based on that.

Jason D.

Yelp
Chef Cindy is not only a fine chef, but she is also an exquisite historian. I thoroughly enjoy everything from the delicious food to the in depth history of New Orleans creole and the bayou resident Cajuns. Can't wait to put the recipes to work at home. And even more excited I'll never have to buy another Christmas gift again. Pralines all around!!!!

Diana S.

Yelp
Totally enjoyed the experience! Chef Eric was knowledgeable and witty. He shared tips on how and why we should use certain cooking techniques. To me, the added bonus was the Cajun and Creole culinary history. During our class we saw Chef make chicken and sausage gumbo, chicken creole with rice and pecan pralines. The group was able to see the demonstration without problems. We were able to sample everything that was made. We will definitely try to book again when we are back in NOLA!

Yelp
Chef Lynn is fantastic. Charming and delightful. Great way to enjoy 2 hours of information and wonderful food. I highly recommend. Note to the school. Your reservation system is messed up. Received 6 of the same emails over and over again. Makes it confusing. Also, get a ventilation system in the classroom. Thanks Chef Lynn.

We walked in to browse and we were offered their cooking class for the next day. I was a little skeptical about value of watching someone cook instead of experiencing it myself. Glad I did this! Our chef was engaging and her stories were entertaining. She had some very helpful tips and the historical basis set the context for all the dishes so popular in this area. If you had burning questions, this is a wonderful opportunity to ask them now! Gumbo, chicken creole and pralines! Everything was delicious and you won't leave hungry! Hot sauces and file are available at the table. Beverages served are lemonade, unsweetened tea, water and beer ( just one though). For those anxious to be stuck at the back of the room and fearing you won't be able to see - there is a mirror above the kitchen so you'll see everything! Plus you are seated in the order the classes are booked. So no storming in after the doors are opened. Buy all the spices from your class. Great selection of kitchen and cocktail stuff. Stock up on Mardi Gras pantry items.

Yelp
I was one of four out of town women friends that attended a morning demonstration cooking class on MLK holiday. 10am - 12:30 p.m. The instructor, Tom, was EXCELLENT! He made biscuits served with molasses, gumbo, red beans and rice, corn bread, pecan pies, and pralines. Tom's presentation of the history of Louisiana cooking and step by step cooking instructions were interesting, engaging, and easy to understand. Tom encouraged class members to ask questions. He's a wonderful chef and great teacher. The handouts with recipes are easy to follow with lots of room for note taking. We had so much to eat! (Don't eat a big breakfast before you come to class!) Everything was delicious! This is a wonderful activity for couples or groups. The facilities are nice with good views for all attendees.

Yelp
We heard really good things about the cooking classes here and really wanted to attend one where we participate and make our lunch, but they were booked up during our stay. But we did stop in to watch them filming one for their web learning option. We also shopped in their shop. They have a great selection of cookbooks and interesting/unique ingredients to make authentic Creole dishes. Definitely recommend stopping in!

Yelp
A trip to NOLA is a trip to eat on. A tiktok review mentioned the school of cooking which led me down a rabbit hole of researching on yelp, Google, and their website. There are two class options: a hands on class, or simply a demonstration. The hands on class was booked for the entirety of our trip. I was initially a little disappointed but the price difference for the demo was way more in my price range. The classes are divided up into two a day. So be sure to check the calendar for meals that look up your alley. Our menu consisted of: biscuit with molasses, gumbo, jambalaya, white chocolate bread pudding, and pralines. There was a coffee station, water and iced tea were on the individual tables. Harriet was our presenter. And I will protect this woman with my life. She is full of jokes and stories. Her ability to incorporate her vast knowledge of her hometown into her cooking shows the love and respect she has for new orleans. She recognizes how different cultures influence food. The first thing she welcomed our class of about 19 people with was, "you all are in my kitchen. You are my guests." It was really something special. She got side tracked with stories and it was honestly my favorite part. She pre-made some items to save time on her cooking. And I especially loved how she was able to give information on how to customize any dish to a person's liking whether they were vegetarian, dairy free, or gluten free. The gumbo was my favorite dish and there was enough for everyone to get seconds and I almost got thirds. By the time the jambalaya was served I had to remind myself we still had dessert and a praline left. But I couldn't help myself and went in for a second helping because it was all so flavorful. The whole class took a total of 2.5 hours and at the end I purchased a book from her and she was gracious enough to inscribe a message. This whole experience was a 10/10 and I recommend this to anyone looking to eat good and learn a lil something extra about new orleans

Yelp
This was a fun experience. We did the demo class so the chef prepares everything while giving us history of New Orleans and the food. They do have a hands on one I definitely want to come back to try. We had gumbo and chicken creole. They had water, lemonade and tea. Even came around with some beers. For the dessert he made pralines. Everything was good. Check this out when you come to New Orleans. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
This is a great Segway into the history of NOLA food scene. The chef is entertaining and the food was delicious. You will walk away with recipes that the chef demonstrated and you ate. Enjoy.

Yelp
This is the best $50 you'll ever spend in New Orleans. The chef/instructor was so kind and funny! He is witty and pretty darn quick. He kept saying this will be the best meal you'll have in New Orleans, he ain't wrong. We did the demo class which involves you sitting and just watching him do his thing, cooking and talking about the history of the area. I learned so many cool tips and tricks on making gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding and pralines! All the dishes were so good, maybe it's the fact that they come right off the stove and oven but it's definitely the best meal we had in New Orleans! They give you an Abita Amber lager complimentary if you'd like one, it's a great versatile beer that pairs well with the food. The different spices you can buy are worth looking at and getting, it's so versatile and you'll be using it daily. The school offers other classes and I think it's so worth trying one if you have time. Have fun doing something new!

Yelp
Great experience! We signed up for the hands on cooking class. We made gumbo, bbq shrimp and grits and banana foster crepes. We were guided by chef Maria. She was very helpful in guiding us to create an awesome meal that we were able to cook and enjoy. We signed up for a 10 am class and we're done by 12:30. Alcohol and non alcoholic drinks were available and free refills were encouraged. After our 2+ hours of a great experience we left with recipes and an apron as a souvenir. I would definitely recommend to anyone that is looking to continue enjoying New Orleans food at home.

Yelp
Rene' was very knowledgeable and made our time so enjoyable. This was a day out for co-workers and it was so needed to just have a relaxing fun time. 10 out of 10 would do again!

Yelp
I took a hands-on cooking class here with my Mom for Mother's Day weekend, and we had such a blast! Vivienne was our instructor. She was such a hoot! We learned the history of New Orleans dishes and got to deep dive into each recipe. This was such a fantastic experience, I definitely recommend to anyone visiting NOLA.

Yelp
This is the second time taking a class here on my layover. It was an incredible experience. The chef Rene, was very knowledgeable and skilled in the kitchen which made the class even more enjoyable! My roux turned out perfectly, like I had been making it for years! BBQ shrimp over grits, chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, crepes and banana foster (minus alcohol for me) were all dishes that we prepared together as part of our lesson. Made new friends too! Highly recommend a class here. You will learn and have fun.

Yelp
We did a morning demo class and it was fantastic!! Our instructor Vivian was energetic and knowledgeable about the regional cuisine and variations for preparing dishes. Flaky biscuits, gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding and pralines were on the lunch menu, and everything was well-timed. We learned a lot and our table companions were pleasant. I appreciated being able to bring home recipes and take notes along the way. The garlic sauce condoment available in the shop or online was delicious too!

Yelp
Simply amazing. I stumbled on this cooking demonstration class on Viator. I had the best time! The chef was funny. The food was delicious and I learned a few things. I HIGHLY recommend this class!

Yelp
While our chef was fun and knowledgeable and the food was tasty, we were extremely disappointed in their ability to accommodate a gluten allergy. The substitution was not a GF version of the recipes made. Additionally, it seems the substitution may have been made cross-contaminated with gluten products. Do not recommend the class if you or anyone in your group has dietary restrictions.

Yelp
The single best experience I had in New Orleans was their hands on brunch cooking class. The wealth of knowledge, incredible stories, and absolutely spectacular food all made it unforgettable. It felt like you were just able to hang out with not only an incredible chef, but an amazing person whose knowledge of New Orleans cuisine and culture was unmatched.

Yelp
Went for the demonstration class and got to sample gumbo, jambalaya, and pralines! The chef explained everything step by step and prepared us to make all these dishes when we got back home!

Yelp
The New Orleans School of Cooking is simply the best way to get an explanation and taste of of Cajun and Creole food. You could eat at a dozen gumbo, jambalaya and praline shops in the French Quarter and still have no idea of the why and how of any of these classic New Orleans dishes beyond the one line menu description, if any. But with a class, the cook gives you a history of the regions foods that is memorable and fascinating. You also get cooking tips that will, if not inspire you to prepare the food yourself, make you sound authoritative. We went to the NOSC over 30 years ago. The location has changed but the format is the same. The many shortcuts that are provided (spice kits and ready made roux, for example) are most welcome.
