Bird Flu Has Hit Long Island’s Oldest Duck Farm | Eater NY

"Suffolk County health officials announced, as reported by Newsday, that bird flu (highly pathogenic avian influenza, HPAI) was found at the last remaining commercial duck farm on Long Island. The operation is having to euthanize its flock of nearly 99,000 birds to prevent the spread of the virus, the farm is under quarantine, and its eggs will be tested. The business, which opened in 1908, is noted as the last commercial duck farm on Long Island." - Nadia Chaudhury

What a horrendous place. A hell on earth. For animals. These people breed birds that are literally meant to swim, their feet are created in a way that they must be in constant contact with water - but these individuals cramp them into tiny dark spaces, put them on concrete floor - no contact with water - ever! And then profit from their slaughter. This farm counts dozens of thousands of animal victims with zero chances for being saved. But then the farmers have the nerve to complain that they are « going through tough times » and that their legacy business is suffering. Really? What kind of absurdity it is to literally subject dozens of thousands of innocents to absolute misery and SLAUGHTER and complain in the same breath that you are going through touch times? Crescent Farmers wake up!!!!!!!! Think about your great and great grand children and them having to deal with your slaughterous legacy. Just look at the monstrosity depicted in the photo from the farm, the photo of its owner. Look at how many of these babies are crammed into such a tiny space. Look at how dark it is. Look at how much of a living hell this place is for the ducks, at how the people running the farm show zero consideration for these living beings, how they have no shame in profiting from such extreme animal abuse.

Crescent Duck Farm raises ducks for slaughter, and its operations are deeply troubling. The ducks are confined to overcrowded, barren spaces, depriving them of basic natural behaviors such as swimming, foraging, and socializing. These vital activities are essential to their physical and mental well-being, yet they are denied in favor of maximizing production. The lack of space and enrichment leads to stress, aggression, and severe suffering. Beyond animal cruelty, the farm's practices are environmentally harmful, contributing to pollution, soil degradation, and excessive resource consumption, all of which have a negative impact on the planet. The farm profits from the exploitation of animals, raising serious moral questions about the ethics of such operations and highlighting the urgent need for more humane, sustainable farming alternatives.
