The 11 Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants In Houston

"Even though Crisp looks relaxed, whoever runs the playlist wants everyone to feel like they’re locked into a high-energy spin class that doubles as a rave. Not only are adults getting into the music, but the kids are too. After a small pepperoni pizza or a bowl of (specifically) Kraft macaroni and cheese, everyone can let loose on Crisp’s combination patio-playground. Bust a few moves with your kindergartener until they can no longer stand the level of cringe. Embarrassment is what brings a family together, after all." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene, julie takahashi

21 Kid-Friendly Houston Restaurants That Grown-Ups Won’t Hate

"Families often flock to this spacious Heights restaurant. With its roomy and chill atmosphere, the whole family can comfortably enjoy its slew of Italian offerings, which include sharable hand-tossed pizzas, salads, and pasta, plus wine and beer on tap for adults. The Critters menu boasts items like grilled chicken, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, grilled cheese, spaghetti, and pizza for $6 to $7, but if you visit on Monday, the whole family can enjoy half-off pizzas. Best of all, kids can frolic and let out their energy on the 5,000-square-foot garden patio, which features swings and a ping-pong table for competitive spirits." - Brittany Britto Garley

Had a late lunch at Crisp on a quiet Saturday, and it was fantastic! The Truffle Ruffle pizza with prosciutto and nutty arugula was amazing, perfectly balanced. The kids loved their plain cheese pizza, saying it’s one of the best, clearly great ingredients! We waited a bit, but the fresh, well-executed pizza was worth it. The back area was a highlight, spacious with plenty of room for the kids to run around. Highly recommend!

Me and my friends went there after work super chill restaurant relaxing vibes I got the steak and fries, dirty martini and some wine. My friends got pizza and a charcuterie board. The food was good I loved their fries crispy on the outside and soft inside. Prices are super reasonable I paid around $78 because I had 3 glasses of wine 🤭 definitely coming back!

Google
Great apps! Salad & dinner options look great. Wood fired pizza is delicious! Great wine, beer & cocktail options! Al the manager is super helpful & a pleasure to talk to! Will be back!

This was an extremely disappointing experience, on many levels. We visited on a Friday evening. At this time, it was not as busy. It took 25 minutes from the time we were seated to even be offered a drink, and that was because we asked. It's not a great start. Our food surprisingly took a long time to come out. Our food was unacceptable. The crab bisque tasted sour and couldn't be eaten, and we sent it back. Let me say, it takes a lot for me to send food back. Both of our pizzas were cold. Not warm. Cold! We were so hungry and frustrated at this point that we ate them cold. Our server, who has been previously mentioned in a negative light in past reviews by others, was terrible. His mannerisms, attitude, and sheer lack of care and attention were the final deal breakers for me. I truly don't care if this restaurant had a good vibe or looks decent inside and out. Houston has way too many incredible options. We do not have to accept these experiences. I will definitely never return to this restaurant!

Google
The wine was good. The cheese board was good. The pizza was not as good as always. We were overcharged for like four different items it was frustrating after enjoying ourselves and then having to deal with that. Then the bill was adjusted in the end but still disappointed that we were charged for an $86 bottle when we ordered a. $52 bottle and then $15 glass when I ordered a $12 glass and then we were not discounted for our happy hour and specials… that’s why we were there. . .

Google
Crisp was such a great experience from food to customer service! I had my birthday brunch here which I had reservations for in advance - Angelo was great to work with and easy to communicate with from start to finish. The day of, Hannah was our server and she was wonderful! She was so sweet and kind to all my guests and was a joy to work with! I can’t wait to be back!

Google
Really enjoyed our visit, sat at the bar. Full bar. Friendly, fast service. Great pizza, and service! The meatballs and arancini were awesome.

Google
Ambience is a little dark and unwelcoming, reminded me of Olive Garden. Crab bisque and pizza were good. Chicken da’Angelo was very chewy and we had to return it, ordered a burger instead and it was as bad. Our server didn’t smile once and seemed unmotivated. We wouldn’t go back.

Yelp
The food and drinks are tasty;the service is always good, fast. And this place is family friendly.

Yelp
The brunch pizza was something I didn't know that I needed. The flavor was great. The crisp hash browns on top were great. The Greek was decent too. The sausage and veggies were good. Overall they were both items I'd order again. The server was polite. He got samples where I said I'd try my friends. The drinks were always full. Whether water or alcoholic. Love how much space the patio had. The fans added a nice touch in the summer heat. I'm sure Better not in summer.

Yelp
Date night on a Friday in mid July in the week of hurricane Beryl. We made a reservation on OpenTable and were seated promptly when we arrived. The location is welcoming with the restaurant located in a nice neighborhood near Ella blvd and the interior is inviting with smells of garlic, mozzerella, and wine. The restaurant was somewhat packed although a couple tables remained open when we arrived. As a modern italian restaurant, there's an extensive wine list and plenty of pizza, pastas, salads, and entrees available. Wines available by the glass are aplenty with a few italian wines available. For appetizers, the arancini is a great option with the orange/thyme vinagrette that gives a sweet citrus flavor to the saffron herbs. I also enjoyed the Caesar salad which is garnished with a toasted parmesan and anchovie on top. For entrees, my girlfriend ordered the eggplant fetuccini and I ordered the shady acres pizza with chicken. The pasta was tender although a bit watery with the sauce; my girlfriend nonetheless enjoyed it. The pizza had good flavor with the mushrooms and veggies with the sauce. The texture was a bit chewy but I'd order the pizza again. Service-wise, there were times were we had to flag our server down for things including silverware and plates for the appetizer and to share the pizza. They were attentive when we sat down upon entering but after our first drink order, it seemed they forgot about us. I also didn't get my second glass of wine (ordered after finishing the appetizer) until after we were nearly done with our food. Not sure if they are short-staffed or if it was the effects of Beryl but service didn't have the urgency we were hoping for. It's a shame because the food is really solid. I'd be open to trying this place again with other pizzas and some of their pastas. And definitely need to try the happy hour.

Yelp
After 5 yrs not much has changed. The pizza is okay. Nothing that makes you want to travel across town to get it. I mean they can't even cut the pizza fully so you have rip and tear it apart. Menus are poorly labeled. The lunch menu is only Monday through Friday so that changed the ordering process. The Sunday special for drinks even though reasonably priced at 7-8 dollars just not very well executed. Overall it's left wanting. Great place to meet with friends for a drink. Food will be better after several of those drinks.

Yelp
Resturaunt Week! Watermelon and Prosciuto salad is great, Steak and Frites: awesome fries, overcooked steak. Beercan chicken, so-so. Tiramisu excellent. Great service. 4 stars-- they were out of every IPA but Mango. Mango?

Yelp
On my Houston Pizza quest I found a restaurant who has the new top spot. That would be Crisp!!! If a pizza place or restaurant has a dang good wine, they are already winning in my book. The pizza dough is hand tossed with a slight bit of saltiness and I have not even begin to describe the "Sauce" yet and already I am hooked.... The star of the evening was the Earl & Marie's Classic Margherita with and addition of Prosciutto accompanied by a glass of Tinto Negro - Malbec - Mendoza, Argentina. This is detailed as I can describe for the meal because the food, service and ambience was so astounding that we were lost in the moment of culinary bliss. Catch me next go around. A MUST TRY.

Yelp
Went in for dinner, this was a first! We ordered the drunken bread and it was absolutely delicious! The marinara/cheese is a great compliment to it! We ordered the lasagna and it's a 7 out of 10. Portion & price didn't match! Also ordered the Beer can chicken - very salty. We should've stuck to appetizers!

Yelp
Wife and I went and had brunch today here for first time. I had the Loaded Shorty Harsh that was recommended by Devin our waiter. It was great, there is a host of flavors for your taste buds to process. Highly recommend giving this dish a try. Devin was great friendly, helpful and tentative. Great to see good customer service. Wife did mention the ladies bathroom was not clean, exact words were nasty. The only reason this is not a 5 star.

Yelp
A friend and I decided to take our pups for a walk and stop at Crisp while out and about. I love that they have a dog friendly patio and a nice outdoor seating area. Once seated, the server brought out a water bowl for each of the dogs and had it filled with ice water which my pup loved. The server then quickly came over to get our drink order. My friend ordered the espresso martini and I said I'd try hers before selecting what I wanted. It took forever for it to come, but eventually it was brought out. Unfortunately, neither of us liked the espresso martini as it tasted like a straight shot of espresso. She told the server and he said he knew how to make it better and asked if I wanted to try a cocktail that would be coming soon... I said absolutely! He came back out shortly with a new espresso martini that had baileys or some cream liquor in it and then my friend loved it. For me, he brought an apple cinnamon cocktail that was delicious! This round of cocktails were perfect! Our server was friendly and we loved that he wanted to make sure we loved everything! We'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Crisp in the Houston Heights area is a fantastic brunch spot for family, friends, or a business event! The restaurant has a nice modern, somewhat upscale, feel to it. They have a large patio with fans for outdoor seating. There is also a very large parking lot, which is pretty hard to find for a restaurant in the heights. The goat cheese marinara appetizer was very good, I love their garlic bread here. The chicken & waffle sandwich is ginormous! So much flavor, and the chicken itself was moist/ had a nice spicy kick to it. Eggs Benedict was also a solid brunch entree. Service was great on a Saturday mid-day. Definitely give Crisp a try!
google avatar

Caroline N.

Yelp
*Restaurant week* Slow service despite the restaurant being pretty empty at the time. I don't recommend the spicy meatball calzone because it's literally a big meatball in the calzone (which yes is in the name but) because the meat is unevenly dispersed in the calzone. It's a weird concept. The bisque is super yummy but also super salty. The pasta was ok. The truffle fries were yummy! The espresso martini was pretty strong! Overall a meh experience but not awful

Yelp
We ate here for lunch. Ordered the lunch special with a 10 inches pizza with a side Cesar's salad. Everything was great. Multiple beers on tap. RJ was a fanatic server and had great communication
google avatar

Olivia M.

Yelp
I've come here quite a bit now for their lunch special, and I've quite enjoyed myself here. At first you may be thrown off by the environment, food, and decoration but I think it is very representative of the area it's in: the heights! The place is pretty clean, staff is pretty friendly, and the food was delicious! It's a bit on the heavier side for the lunch since most of the items are pasta or pizza. I thought the pizza was a bit greasy but that's about it. There is a lot of variety on the menu and the title categories on the menu are quite funny.
google avatar

Shelby L.

Yelp
Some dishes are hit or miss but overall this place is pretty solid. The marinara and goat cheese appetiter alone is worth the trip. We had a cold snap and I had short ribs on the brain so we decided to try theirs out. We started with the marinara goat cheese app which I've had several times and is damn delicious. Now, the short ribs. The meat itself was really good! It was tender and lean as far as short ribs go and it was a pretty large portion. There could have been a little more polenta to balance out the honking portion of meat but more importantly it tasted really good; however, the braising liquid reduction was crazy salty. They have some great daily and happy hour specials (HH menu in pics). We definitely want to come back and try one of their Tuesday pizza and wine nights.
google avatar

Christian D.

Yelp
The food itself was very tasty, especially the truffle fries, although I may be bias cause I love truffle fries anywhere, the pizza was very tasty and filling. Our server was also very attentive and friendly. The only con is the amount of flies when you're sitting outside! Please sit inside when you visit cause the flies will not let you eat at all. I counted at least 15 flies and I had to set aside a piece of pizza bread so they could leave me alone

Yelp
Wow oh wow what a gem found in Houston! We were in town for spring break and our group was hungry for Italian and pizza. I fired up the ole trusty Yelp app to help me find out next meal. We were fortunate enough to find Crisp. We were a decent size party of 4 adults and 4 kids. Our waiter Alex took our order and provided us some recommendations. Everything came out good for the most part except for my wife's salad where she asked for shrimp instead of chicken. Alex promptly had a new order put in to correct the issue. Then the manager came over and chatted with us. He was a great manager and bantered with us well. And compared us toe desserts which were very tasty. Overall the atmosphere was nice and quaint for a neighborhood Italian restaurant. The service was great and the food was excellent. Order any pizza, calzone or calamari and you will super enjoy it. When we come back to Houston we will make the time to come back and visit! So good!

Yelp
spaghetti with chicken is absolutely delicious!! best one ive ever had!! i've been to italy florence & it honestly didn't compare. this was sooo good.

Yelp
Love crisp, Love the food & hey you can buy a jar of their pasta sauce for home! Service is always friendly & food comes out quick.

Yelp
This place was so cute for brunch. Our waiter was super friendly and there are a ton of specials. My husband and I split one houston restaurant week meal, which was easily enough for 2. They were also doing $4 mimosas or their start-you-day specialty cocktails for $8. For HRW we got the cheesy balls which were like mozzarella cheese sticks but the mozzarella cheese had even more seasoning than normal which set it over the edge. We also got the breakfast pizza which was amazing!! Will definitely be going back and recommending it to people
google avatar

Christina A.

Yelp
I loveddddddddd it here ! The patio is so nice and peaceful you can also bring your dog ! Multiple tvs lots of room just loved the patio! The service could be bette our server was very friendly and helped but we were the first ppl there 30 mins after it opened . Once more ppl came he disappeared and we had to go to the bar to get our tab. No refills on our drink once our food was served and although it wasn't crazy hot on the patio I would have loved for some more water The food was delicious . First the crab bisque is so flavorful like omggggggg flavor! It's packed in there ! The calamari was okay to me but my husband liked it The pizza was delicious!!!!!!! It was recommend by the server The meatball sandwich my husband wasn't a fan They also have lots of deals and specials each day I would recommend

Yelp
Really good food!! Amazing service, spot on! really good restaurant week food! $39 for 3 course meal. live music it was a little loud but it was a lot of fun! the ambiance was really nice.
google avatar

Adela M.

Yelp
Great date night spot! The restaurant is decorated nicely and gives a warm ambiance. The pasta was delicious, great flavor and creamy, pizza was tasty as well! The drinks were perfect and we got great recommendations from our lovely bartender Hannah!
google avatar

Anne M.

Yelp
We go here for happy hour- amazing happy hour and amazing pizzza! The staff always goes out of their way to help us. We love the outdoor patio too!
google avatar

Pamela Z.

Yelp
We really like crisp because it's near our home, easy for families and has a good outdoor area to let your kids run free for a bit. They often have live music which is a plus. Indoors can be loud, kind of a sports bar type feel, and can be crowded with a decent wait if you don't get there early. The food is pretty standard/solid. Doesn't make or break the restaurant. We go for the ease and the atmosphere. Good for groups.
google avatar

Daryl K.

Yelp
Just moved to the Heights area and this is down the street so definitely was on our "places to checkout" list. Great little neighborhood restaurant with a nice vibe. We went on a Friday night and they also had some live music which was a nice surprise. I believe Jake was the name of our server, he did a good job of making sure we had everything we needed and was very welcoming and friendly. The food was good, nice portions, I had the pasta bianco and my partner one of the pizzas. Some reviews said the pizzas were too greasy but we didn't see that at all and really enjoyed the pizza. All in all I'm sure this will be a frequent spot for us to walk over to and grab a bite or a drink.

Laz D.

Yelp
Visited from California for my best friend's birthday. Found Crisp, made the reservations, and couldn't be happier. The food was great and we lucked out with our waiter, Tray/Trey. He gave us a customized service and even brought our cheesecake for my friend's birthday to celebrate. We had already paid but he wanted to make sure we had something to take home. ***House salad, eggplant, and brisket were soooooo good.

Jessica G.

Yelp
No Idea why or how this place has 4 stars. Perfect place to go if you want to hear screaming kids or crying ones in the dining room at 8:00 at night. Lousy wine list - and it's supposed to be a wine bar, lol. Food menu is 1/2 a step up from a pizzeria.
google avatar

Susan C.

Yelp
The pizzas, the appetizers, the service - everything was phenomenal. They have an amazing outdoor area with some games for kiddos to run around and blow off some energy and when we went, there was live music (simple solo singer + guitar) which added to the great ambiance. We were seated right in front of him so convos were hard to hear but overall, it was a great spot for a family meal.
google avatar

Eliza M.

Yelp
I really like Crisp, service can been a little slow at times, but it gives you more time to talk. The food is always excellent, and I like that the restaurant has unobtrusive music loud enough that you can't hear the table next to you, but quiet enough to talk without having to shout. They have a dedicated parking lot, and there's convenient street parking.
google avatar

Florentin D.

Yelp
Very nice and clean patio equipped with fans and heaters at every stations . This restaurant has a friendly dog areas. The parking lot is pretty decent and get filled pretty quick at, however there is parking available on the street. Service was pretty fast when we first got there but slow down as they started getting busy, which is completely understandable. THE BLUE CRAB BISQUE IS A MUST TRY..ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!! Couldn't get enough of it. Didn't like the Drunken Meatball Sandwich as i didn't find it flavorful. The Tipsy Calamari was good. Will be coming back
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Arancini balls were good, but needed some extra love in the seasoning department. We had a Margarita pizza with pepperoni. It came with regular shredded moz, not fresh which took a bit of the wow factor. Having both cherry tomatoes and sliced also made it a bit hard to eat as the cherry tomatoes just kept falling off.
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
As it turns out, this was my second visit to Crisp, the first visit being undocumented but very much during HRW. Still being full from my previous HRW's engagement, I lived vicariously through my foodie-friends who partook in the fabulous and delightful menu offerings. We had the pork belly, the Petite short rib, garlic bread, and the grilled cheese. All were excellent options, but the most amazing choice was the wine-soaked garlic bread. Excuse me while I wipe the drool from my mouth! Definitely a neat place to visit!
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
The pizzas are great but you have to try the drunken Irish bread appetizer. Add a great beer garden and it's my go to place.
google avatar

Erin C.

Yelp
Visited this place with my friend the other day. Here are the deets: Pros: --friendly and helpful staff --pretty good happy hour menu --plenty of parking --great beer selection --EXCELLENT meatball appetizer --great cocktail menu Cons: --the calamari is god awful. This is one dish that you really can't mess up, but they did. It was so chewy. We had to send it back. Overall: --I would definitely return.
google avatar

Yelp
I've visited Crisp a few times now (for lunch, happy hour and dinner) and enjoyed it each time. The service is always good and friendly. I appreciate that the staff is personable and strike up conversation! The food has always been flavorful (the crab bisque is a must try)! This go round we had the il granchio trio, baked Texas goat cheese & marinara, and pasta bianco with salmon. All solid options! My only gripe was the death by brownie dessert was a bit hard (but I'm willing to try it out again to see if it was just an off day). You're able to seat yourself so you can sit indoors or sit out on the patio and enjoy the weather (which I normally do). Next on my list to try is their brunch!
google avatar

Sandi W.

Yelp
We go frequently for dinner and are rarely disappointed. First time for Sunday Brunch for Easter. Looking forward to it. The place was very empty and then assumed others knew something we didn't. While my French toast was good it was nothing to extoll about. The coffee was not hot but tepid. Waitstaff was less than attentive than it should have been for a near empty place. Very deceiving as the parking lot was semi crowded. We won't be back for brunch but we will continue to come for dinner.
google avatar

John N.

Yelp
This place has a cute rustic ambiance and they even have a large out door patio. The food was great nothing outstanding but very proper food. The calamari was my favorite and I would recommend.
google avatar

Michae A.

Yelp
A great neighborhood spot. We always enjoy the meatball duo, the appetizer portion, as well as their hand-tossed pizzas. Our favorite is the San Fran North Beach and the Truffle shuffle with Italian sausage instead of prosciutto.
google avatar

Nena W.

Yelp
Stopped in before going to work and the meatballs are definitely something to try out. Not too filling just enough. The drinks are delicious as well. Last night was my first time coming in during the evening time and they had live music the 2 guys that were there had amazing music that had the perfect chill vibes. Also the service at the bar is always great!
google avatar

Lynn L.

Yelp
I came here on a Thursday night with my friend. Although closing was within an hour we were still served and treat well by the staff. It's a nice spot in the area, lots of wine and craft beer to choose from. There's a bar, large patio, plenty of indoor seating. I decided to have a burger and we also had meatballs as an appetizer. The meatballs were moist, gigantic, and seasoned well. My burger did take a little longer than expected but they were making it fresh. It came out hot and delicious, as were the fries. I enjoyed my meal and we didn't feel rushed to finish even though it was close to closing. The service was great and friendly. I will definitely return to have another meal there. Maybe next time I'll try a pizza or a plate if pasta.
google avatar

Cassandra M.

Yelp
Cute place. Not overbooked on a Saturday night. Ample parking. They have indoor and outdoor seating. (Dogs are allowed outside.) We started with the Baked Texas goat cheese & Marinara (roasted garlic tomato sauce, soft garlic, EVOO,) and drunken garlic bread. Pretty good. The drunken garlic break is good on it's own. Our server asked if we wanted to add extra garlic bread, "because it only comes with 4 pieces." We added extra bread. (But why don't they just serve it with more bread and charge accordingly?) I had the GET 'EM TO THE GREEK #2. (House made fennel seed sausage with chili flakes, feta, pepperoncini, fresh tomatoes, black olives, shaved red onions and parsley pesto). Thin crust. Really good. (But, I need to know what happened to Get Em To Tue Greek #1 )
google avatar

Anissa A.

Yelp
I've been here twice and it's the perfect vibe for a wine and pizza night to catch up with the girls. Live music has been a plus both times I've gone as well. :)
google avatar

Candy C.

Yelp
Ordered the Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich (it came with 2 crispy waffles, chicken breast - ok, wish it was more moist and egg) with Fries on the brunch menu. Definitely a hungry man sandwich. The hot sauce was super oily and not really hot. Service was friendly and attentive. Nice patio area. Unfortunately, no dogs allowed. Sorry Snoopy. Decent amount of onsite parking. Just in case you were wondering. Staff is not masked here. I would like to give 3 and a half stars. I don't know how to give a half star.
google avatar

Tawanna D.

Yelp
Excellent location in close proximity to my home. Food, amenities and ambiance is perfect.
google avatar

Oliver B.

Yelp
Cute eatery near the Heights has plenty of parking should you find yourself going northwest of the city. Plenty of tables inside and outside on patio. They do have a room for private parties. Burgers pizzas salads pasta desserts and a full bar. The Calioni Pizza (picture) was tasty and enough to being home for a second meal. Tasty appetizers and of course their carrot cake was divine. Serving staff was extremely attentive and friendly. If I find myself near this part of town, I will find myself being a repeat.

Yelp
Ciao Bella!! First time at Crisp and it was amazing. My friends Baby Shower was hosted there and I was so pleased at how smoothly everything went and how great the food is. All the staff were so friendly and accommodating. They would step in politely and make sure we had our drinks and anything we needed. Very top notch. Shout to the Manager for being so sweet and making suggestions. Forks Up!! Whoop!

Paul D.

Yelp
Get the calolonia pizza. It's a chicken bacon and smoked Gouda pizza with two sauces incorporated and topped with avocado. Also, have a great happy hour
google avatar

Bridget R.

Yelp
Our server was a sweet guy and attentive. The place was emptier than expected and more chill than the indoor photos on yelp show, which I appreciated. Ample parking as well. Pizza was good and nice non-status quo topping options. I would suggest making your own pie!
google avatar

Vivian M.

Yelp
Our server was attentive and the restaurant is very nicely appointed. My food was pretty good. My date's soup, a bisque, was very salty. It was a later dinner which may indicate that the soup had been on warm for a while and may have reduced over that time. The restaurant did not address his concern except to state that no one else thought it was overly salty.
