Go to Salisbury and Eat Beach Pizza - Eater Boston

"One of the rival pizza shops known for its sauce that lacks sweetness, offering square, thin slices of 'beach pizza' with a light sprinkling of mozzarella." - Terrence Doyle

Really good beach pizza. Service was great. The pizza sauce is sweet and the crust is thin and crispy. I just wish there was more cheese. I got extra cheese and that was like regular cheese. Parking can be tricky. I lucked out and got parking right in front of Christys. It's paid parking. We just did live parking and the food was ready quickly so it worked out. I didn't pay for parking.

I've been going to Cristy's since I was a kid (I'm now 47 years old). Long before, there was a second location in Hampton Beach & only the Salisbury Beach one existed! I normally don't like a sweet pizza sauce, but Cristy's is my only exception! I take my beach pizza with some Provalone cheese & garlic powder...how do you take yours?

Jeff Black

Google
This place is affordable and amazing. It's not traditional pizza to be sure - but if you know what you are looking for, it is amazing. Don't be surprised when a single slice of provolone is what you get with an order of 'extra cheese'. That's just how it's done. Try the anchovy or the mushroom for some added deliciousness! Well worth the trip - even if it's out of the way!

First time here! Pizza was hot and fresh. I’ve never had “beach” style pizza but it was good. Definetly a good lunch for a day at the beach!

Google
My favorite pizza place for the past 27 years! I have been driving down for a slice (ok tray of 20) since I was in high school after trying them when in the area once. It started as a joke to friends that I would drive 2 hours round trip for pizza until they slowly started to make the trip with me. Eventually I was hearing about other friends who would also make a road trip on the weekends. Guys behind the counter know me as "the guy from Maine" who stops by year round. I have tried every other pizza in the square and Christys is hands down the very best. Very unique with the option of getting a round slice of Provolone on the top (recommended) of each slice. I get a tray of 20 slices which come in 3 boxes so you can feast on site and have plenty to bring back home. Service is always spot on and its a great atmosphere with the square and plenty places to sit and relax. This will always be my go to place for pizza!

Google
Well - can't say anything positive because their advertising is completely false. They said theyre open until 11 but they're clearly closed.

I’ve been coming here since I was a young girl. We’d go to the beach, grab some beach pizza with my parents & younger Brother. All these years later I still come here now, I bring my boyfriend & it’s still the best beach pizza I remember from all those years ago.

Jeff Black

Google
Absolutely perfect slices of beach pizza. Especially like the plain cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms, and anchovies. #pizza #anchovies Service is quick and the price is right!

Yelp
While on our Hunnymoon my husband and I stopped at many places that were important to him as a child. When we came to Salisbury Beach it was a real treat to try Cristys pizza, as he often reminisced about it. The crust is thin but hearty, holding the sweet sauce not smothered by too much cheese. Adding Provlone is an option, as is pepperoni or mushrooms. The pizza comes by the slice, in a square, for the perfect price. We enjoyed the atmosphere at the Sailsbury waterfront, eating Cristys pizza so much... we came back two additional times throughout our New England adventures .

Yelp
Some of my favorite pizza I have eaten. I also loved my time at this particular beach. Will come back again.

Yelp
My family has been coming here since the 70s and it hasn't changed one bit. Still very good pizza nice thin crust good sauce it's very good beach pizza. I get mine with a slice of provolone on it and it's fantastic.

Sean B.

Yelp
Fantastic beach pizza. Provolone with oregano. Can't go wrong. An institution. Good stuff.

Yelp
Love it! Always great when you can take a ride to the beach and get some beach pizza! as it may be a bit Pricey, you get what you pay for, and what you get, is well worth what you're paying!! Thank you Christie's Pizza for always being original, and providing the best customer service.

Yelp
I was accosted here by a local circus clown. The pizza was a bit cold I thought after I purchased it . It reminded of Ellio's when I was kid. I thought it was dry and hard, but the ruth of my mouth didn't get boil burns. Because it had been sitting. A clown came out of the bathroom and sprayed confetti everywhere. He demanded to know what brand of canned sauce they put on the pizza. He claimed to have been sitting of the toilet for some time.Yet, he complained there was no cheese on his pie. I hightailed it out there, not wanting to witness an altercation.

Yelp
i overall wouldn't recommend the pizza here. i'm not really into the beach style pizza in general tho. the price is cheap and the hours are substantial
google avatar

Yelp
We found this little pizza shop by mistake. We saw some people eating pizza and asked them where the best pizza shop was at the beach. They all said Christie's. So we were sold. We walked over to the pizza shop and ordered a few slices. It was very very good. I would love to go back. It was a fun unique place. There were not any indoor seating but it was a beautiful day and we ate at the center tables.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been coming here since I was a child, every time I visit the easy coast this is my first stop. The pizza is one of a kind, light, fluffy but cruchy and sweet. I wish their was something like it where I live but there just is nothing that compares to Salisbury Beach Pizza!!!!
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Cristys or Tripoli You ask? Try both! Cristys crust is a bit thinner, a bit less sauce and cheese. If this is your style then go for it. If not then Tripoli. The sauce is sweet, the crust is crisp. My mouth in watering.

Yelp
Whenever I'm at Salisbury Beach (or Hampton Beach NH) during a hot summer day or in the middle of winter on a chilly sunny day, I have to stop at Cristy's PIzza for my "Beach Pizza" fix, the perfect snack! The other place for beach pizza is at Tripoli's, which is only three doors down. I like both pizza places! The beach pizza slices look very simple, which are rectangular and have a thin very crispy crust with small soft edges and topped with good amounts of sweet tomato sauce and dabs of melted provolone cheese. Very tasty pizza and I'm almost tempted each time to buy a box of slices to bring home. There is outside concrete table seating across the street in the big median with ample recycling receptacles for "PIZZA BOXES ONLY" and "Bottles and Cans Only" nearby.

Yelp
Ahhh...the age old heated debate over Cristy's or Tripolis, or neither because you don't believe "beach pizza" is really pizza. Let me start by saying I do enjoy this unique brand of pizza only found at Salisbury beach and a couple imitation spots a bit inland. I've actually come to love it and usually pick up a slice or two or 8 when I'm down here. For those complaining that this is not pizza I hear you. It's far from gourmet greatness and definitely not your typical sub/pizza shop Greek style. It's Beach Pizza. It has it's own style. You need to order it with the slice of provolone on it! Otherwise you just get sauce with sprinkled on Parmesan. Now, I wasn't one of those kids whose Mom & Dad took here to get pizza and have an unbiased view of it due to being raised with it and not knowing any better. Getting pizza at the beach was not a childhood tradition for me. My childhood beach tradition was packing up a pic nic lunch of tuna sandwiches, chips, and drinks. I actually never had my first slice of beach pizza until well into my late teens. With that all said, Christy's really falls a bit short to me compared to Tripolis. It always seems a bit undercooked and has too much sauce. If you try to eat one of the squares in the middle of the tray that have no crust an undercooked slice is damn near impossible to eat without decimating the thing after the first bite. Extreme mess and if you're using those tiny napkins they give you it's going to take you a long time to fix that problem! I definitely love that they are open year round. So many businesses at the beach and in this area are seasonal which gives us locals slim pickings in the off season. It's fun to come down to the beach in the middle of winter, play some games at Joe's, and grab some pizza. They usually have winter deals also.
google avatar

Dawn Marie F.

Yelp
Cristy's is a family favorite when we visit the beach. Which I admit is always off season. I like the thin crust and the sauce isn't to sweet. You have to get it with provolone cheese added otherwise it's just sauce and very little cheese. Their competition Tripoli's is ok, but I find their sauce to sweet.
google avatar

Scot M.

Yelp
Great unique Salisbury beach pizza. A variety found no other place. Cristys is less sweet than Tripoli. I like both but I get Christys when I am at Salisbury and Tripoli when I am at dads.

Mike W.

Yelp
I drove 6 hours awaiting to get here to enjoy the pizza. I was on the highway very late at night and called multiple times received no answer but the Google listing said it was open until 2:00 a.m.? I arrived at 1:00 a.m. after an inconvenience in 15 minutes off the highway to find it shut up tight? I guess you have to live locally to know the hours!! very poor management of the online advertising!! I will never stop by here again

Yelp
it's officially called BEACH PIZZA....The strange but wonderful beast that is only served in this area. If you did not grow up around here, you might not CRAVE it the way we do (and let me tell you, living out of state is killer...I miss BEACH PIZZA)! and no one ever knows what I mean when i refer to it, unless they have been to the 4 places that serve it (2 down Salisbury beach, one at the 'line--my fave, altho they are not open year 'round) and the place up in Hampton Beach. Let me try to explain.....BEACH PIZZA.... Those that are not from around here or have never been here cannot understand.....there is nothing like it in any other state, or even any other area of Mass or NH! Beach pizza is made in a big rectangle, kinda of like Sicilian, but only as far as the shape. Its thin in the middle (crispy) and the edges have a nice crust. It is usually only sauced, with a slight sprinkle of cheese. The way you order it is with extra cheese, which is a slice of provolone they throw on b4 heating in the oven. They also usually offer pepperoni, and that's about it. But trust me, the nice melty provolone will do the trick nicely! OMG my mouth is watering.....I do not live in state anymore and I miss the hell out of this type. Every time I am forced to come visit family though, we make a trip down to the beach for a huge box! If i am down here getting some Christy's, I will usually run next door for some Tripoli as well.....and do my own taste test to see which i still prefer! If you live or visit near here, you have got to try it! BUT do not expect any pizza sensation like you have ever had. Have an open mind and a hungry tummy and you will be sooo happy! ps. Do not ever refer to a round pie as Beach Pzza, i dont care if u bought it at one of the greasy places at the beach that try to pass round pizza as Beach pizza. It's NOT! Stick with the ORIGINALS! The rectangles! LOL
google avatar

George L.

Yelp
Cristy's! This IS beach pizza accept no other. Avoid Tripoli's like the plague! Fear it and revile it! Cristy's always delivers a tasty, well timed summer treat (but truth be told, they are open year round and I have been known to sneak into Salisbury beach in the middle of November to snag some) I get mine with a slice of provolone. DOWN WITH THE TRIPOLI'S IMPOSTERS! PASS
google avatar

Vanessa A.

Yelp
An institution at the Center at Salisbury Beach, this place has been here since...well, seems like the dawn of time for those who grew up here. The pizza is good, though nothing stupendous or letter-home worthy. For me, part of the allure is the walk to get it after a great day at the beach with friends. One thing they do different: they layer the square pie with sliced provolone cheese, not the typical shredded stuff. Step up to the window, place your order, then hang out and wait! Which do you prefer: Tripoli or Cristy's?
google avatar

Andrew D.

Yelp
Been going here since 1987 and nothing has changed since that first visit. Heading up in winter and grabbing two corners with extra American cheese when the beach is empty is a great 20 minutes. When I went to college in Boston I used to tell my buddies about this place and we'd make treks up here and without fail they loved this place. It's really just a glorified Ellio's Pizza but it's still great.
google avatar

William O.

Yelp
Tripoli. Cristaldi. Then Cristy's. Don't get me wrong, it's very good. Very good. But next to those other pizza titans of Salisbury-Seabrook Beach, it ranks #3. I do like how they've begun referring to their product as "Beach Pizza" though.
google avatar

Nathasja T.

Yelp
I'm not even from here, and I crave this pizza. Mmmmh, beach pizza. My stepdaughter and I would drive up here at night for a late-night snack, say every frikkin night we were in the area. There is something about the crust, its kinda thin but so so good. The sauce is sweeter than usual, which is probably why it is so dang good. Crust, sauce, sprinkle of cheese. It really doesn't get much more basic, but often less is more and that is definitely the case here. I agree with everyone else, add provolone and you will be in cheap pizza nirvana. I kept having good hopes of eating this pizza on the beach, some Atlantic Ocean white noise in the background, perhaps a bird or two.. But I never made it that far. By the time I reached the sand this za was loooong gone. I crave it. I want it. Can someone send me some?
google avatar

Shauna C.

Yelp
I don't see what the hype is...it seems like freezer pizza but multiple people told me it would change my life. I mean it wasn't bad, but I feel like I could probably have saved a few bucks and just gone to the supermarket.
google avatar

Sean W.

Yelp
Very confused as to all the good reviews. I would guess that this place has become a tradition for a lot of people and because of that, most people cannot give an unbiased opinion. It is a very sub par slice of pizza. Hardly any cheese. Crust is crispy but tastes like cardboard. The sauce lacks any depth of flavor. A slice from dominos with some garlic powder is better than this. Tripoli's is similar with better flavor. Not sure what the big deal with this place is, I don't get it.
google avatar

Danielle D.

Yelp
Dear Cristy, I gave your neighbor Mr. Tripoli a four star rating because I was saving the FIVE star for you. Thanks for always giving me two middle slices with extra cheese and a can of ginger ale for $6 - you're the best pizza I've ever had. As Missy says -- you ARE the one and only BEACH PIZZA and I suggest you coin that term cause thats what I've called you since we met back in 1992. Sincerely, DD
google avatar

Scotty C.

Yelp
What can I say I've been coming here since I my earliest memories and always has been one of my favorite pizzas around. It's impossible to go up to Salisbury beach and not get or bring some home with you. They have always nailed it
google avatar

V M.

Yelp
As someone who rarely eats pizza, I must say that if this were in San Francisco, I'd come here everyday to get a slice or two! I love that their pizza has more sauce than cheese and their dough is thin and not to crunchy. Slices are cheap and in my opinion better than Tripoli's. I would totally come back if I visited family on the East Coast!
google avatar

Joe R.

Yelp
We recently stopped at Cristy's Pizza in Salisbury, MA. Let me start off by saying that this place is a landmark. The atmosphere makes it, being right on Salisbury beach. Now for the pizza: extra cheese is a must. Other reviewers complain about there not being enough cheese, so this is one solution. However, on this night, the crust was dry, and the pizza tasted like it had been sitting around for hours. It's sad to see a childhood favorite known for their delicious pizza decline in quality. We will come back, but we were pretty disappointed this time around.
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
I grew up going to Salisbury beach. My dad used to make us walk 6 miles to get a slice. I now live in CA. I fly back here once a year. Beach Pizza is a MUST. Husband loves it too, I worried that my raves of it might have been too much but he agreed with me totally that it is the best pizza ever, and he does not agree with me often!
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
The guy who took our order was as high as a kite. Ordered 2 slices of provolone and 2 slices of pepperoni & a bottle of water. First he rang up as $1.95. I reminded him about the 4 slices of pizza. He said "oh yea" and proceeded to charge me for 2 slices. At this point the line is growing so I just pay. I got two slices instead of 4. Guess it was a difficult order. Luckily Tripolis is next door where we got our two other slices. I don't know what he was on but WOW.
google avatar

Blake B.

Yelp
Got a slice of pepperoni pizza and a cup of coffee here this afternoon. The pizza was very tasty and the crust had a very nice crunch to it. It was pretty small though. $2 for a 4" x 4" square of pizza seems a bit pricy, and my 8 oz coffee was another $2.25. The coffee came out of one of those k-cup pod machines. It was made by the Green Mountain Coffee Company. It could have been much worse. Not bad for a pizza window, I guess. We were here in the middle of February and the crowds were pretty thin. Judging by the number of "pizza box only" trash cans I suspect that it gets quite thick with beach goers during the summer. They have what would appear to be an open wifi network, but it prompts you for a password through a web interface when you try to connect. None of the friendly young men behind the counter had any idea what the password might be.
google avatar

Werner V.

Yelp
Beach pizza is one of the area's best unique treats. The pizza here incorporates a sweet sauce and a perfect crust (firm, but not too crunchy or doughy). Don't bother with meat toppings, but be sure to get extra cheese (a melted slice of provolone). Should be eaten hot. Don't wait until you get home to chow down! As far as the rivalry between Tripoli and Christy's goes: pick a side and stick with it. The lines at Christy's are often shorter, but there's little to no difference between the two! Service has always been quality. Makes for a great late-night snack.
google avatar

Carol A.

Yelp
It is not as delicious as it use to be in both locations at Hampton & Salisbury beach! Very dry hardly any sauce & over cooked. Thumbs down!
google avatar

dwyane w.

Yelp
i give this tasteless, boring, unoriginal pizza a big fat zero. no stars. avoid Cristy's pizza like the plague! this place is complete shit. the sauce and cheese are so bland its like eating a slice of toast with nothing on it. worse than that, its like eating warmed over roof shingles left out on a counter top for days and used as a cigarette ash tray. DISLIKE. PASS. true beach heads know whats up... Tripoli pizza is TRUE beach pizza. f*ck this place!! PS- Tripoli pizza was here before you. please do the world a favor and go out of business.
google avatar

Matt T.

Yelp
Im going to give you a god hint about this pizza. It travels well. My parents go up to Boston and Newburyport alot, and this was a pizza place my dad went to as a teenager. Its still going strong in a town that dying. They always bring pizza from here home for me and my brother. We always add the provolone to add more cheesey goodness and makes t perfect to sit on the sidewalk and add to the ambience. Check this place out and enjoy it.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
Definitely the best beach pizza in Salisbury. I prefer Christy's over the other pizza joints... I've been going here since I was a young kid!

Tony M.

Yelp
As far as beach pizza goes, this place is the real deal !! Yummy little squares of cheesy goodness !!! A summertime staple for me. We will make the drive late nights in the summer to grab a few slices at 1 in the morning. I always get the slice of provolone on mine and hope that I get a corner piece so I can have an extra side of the soft chewy crust !!
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
I have been all over the country.. Believe it or not, this is my favorite pizza. I live in California now, but look forward to Cristy's when traveling east. It's usually the first stop after I leave the airport. People try and say that Tripoli is better.. They are wrong.

Stephen T.

Yelp
So awesome. If you have the chance to stop and get a slice, go for extra provolone cheese!!! Soo good and must return

Mellissa B.

Yelp
Not a very good pizza. Ordered extra pepperoni and got a piece with 4 pepperonis on it. what a rip off. The sauce is sweet and good but the crust was hard. It was hot and just cooked but there was something wrong qith rhe cheese it tasted weird. Not going back, nor do i recommend. Still searching for a good pizza place.
google avatar

J P.

Yelp
Awesome pizza the sauce is delicious. There's not alot of cheese but I liked that. Haven't had pizza this good in a long time. I highly recommend stopping here for a slice.
google avatar

ali g.

Yelp
I am not sure why this place got such great reviews for pizza. I have had much better pizza in my own kitchen. Their pizza is just very similar to Ellio's pizza that is frozen in the grocery store. Considering it's one of the only places to get pizza in the nearby area, I can see why it gets great reviews. However, if you want good pizza I suggest you get in your car and drive further.
google avatar

Kathleen M.

Yelp
Ok so they throw a slice of half melted cheese on the crust and somehow it tastes phenomenal.......how??? The crust was so good. I hadn't eaten all day and this really hit the spot before going to the Carousel. I don't know how the pizza tasted so good. I was not expecting it too. Will definitely grab a couple slices there next time I'm up there.
google avatar

J. P.

Yelp
Almost no cheese on their pizza at all. I have also gone on the same day and got different prices for the same order. I don't this place touches Tripoli's which is a few windows down. Sorry but only if I am desperate. Put more cheese on your pizza. All the ingredients are cheap...it's pizza, not Lobster Tails???
google avatar

Joseph C.

Yelp
This is the Salisbury beach location of Cristy's there is also one at Hampton beach. The pizza here is very good and comparable to what you will find at Tripoli several storefronts down from this location. The sauce is a little bit less sweet than Tripoli's and there is a tiny bit more cheese. I find the crust to be not quite as cruncy as their competitor's. Although I would give Tripoli a slight edge in the great beach pizza battle I would recommend you go to whatever store has the shortest line you will be very satisfied with both.
google avatar

C B.

Yelp
Best pizza anywhere! Make sure u get it with extra slice of provolone cheese I actually come to Salisbury beach specifically for their pizza :)
google avatar

Amanda P.

Yelp
This is the best pizza around. I love pizza but nothing compares to Cristy's. it's the perfect thin crust with just the right amount of sweet sauce and a sprinkle of cheese. I've been coming here since I've been old enough to eat it. I have driven here in the middle of the night during a blizzard just to get it. I can't believe I haven't written a review until now. But I just had it today so it reminded me to write one. Mmmmmmmm.....
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
For someone who isn't a fan of 'beach pizza' it's pretty good. When I'm up that way on a cold winters day or when the surf is kickin up me and my gf always get a slice.. Or 8
google avatar

Justin G.

Yelp
I can't live without it! i only order middles and do half of the order with extra cheese. Always go with the oregano shaker is on the counter. If you get it to go leave the box opened a bit so you don't steam your pizza! It's the best!!
google avatar

Jer W.

Yelp
Went here on 10-5-11 evening. Tripoli ran out of some pizzas--my fellow instructor/students decided/walked couple doors down to christy's. I also had their pepperoni--their crust is soft, yet flavorful.
