Where To Eat When You're Visiting London

"At Kolae, fire whooshes up from the wok in the buzzy open kitchen-cum-counter and, from your first sip of a mini martini to the final crunch of deep-fried prawn head, you’ll be swooning at its flavour-fuelled charm offensive. The slick three-floor restaurant, which focuses on southern Thai cooking, is smack bang in the heart of Borough Market, near London Bridge. But a trip to this spot is worth its own occasion." - jake missing

The Best London Restaurants For Eating At The Counter

"There’s a choreographed flamethrower show in Kolae’s open kitchen, and it’s just one of the reasons this Thai spot’s counter in Borough Market feels so thrilling. Juicy hunks of chicken are rotated over flames, wok tornadoes of fire are tamed, and flavour-laded mussel skewers are plated up. It’s one of London’s liveliest bars, and the food matches the heat of the kitchen. " - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak

The 18 Best Restaurants In London Bridge

"Kolae is a southern Thai restaurant in Borough Market that's best enjoyed at the counter. Every so often, a whoosh of jagged flames shoots up from the wok in the open kitchen, diners squeal, the chef expertly manoeuvres his wrist, and the £5 martini should be mandated by law. The Soho House-lite space feels like somewhere that’s trying to appeal to everyone, but Kolae’s menu—lively curries, herbaceous kale fritters, sticky pandan rice—is where it shows real personality." - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, jake missing, daisy meager, heidi lauth beasley

The 13 Best Thai Restaurants In London

"At Kolae, the focus is on southern Thai flavours and marinated things cooked over a very hot coconut—and some of those things are very, very good. The slick, three-floor spot in Borough Market suits all kinds of get-togethers, but the kitchen counter is where the action is and where this place feels most alive. Flames shoot out beneath woks, mussel skewers are expertly grilled, and you won’t be able to resist having one more mini martini. Bigger groups will want to take a room upstairs to devour deep-fried prawn heads in privacy, but wherever you sit at Kolae, you’ll happily find the food is your focus." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing

Great service. Olives and spicy chilli crackers. En route to see my dad in the hospital, had a latte and chai before. On the way back had spicy Margs, martini and an old fashioned. Made to perfection and great atmosphere and vibe from the staff. Rachel and Ella, thank you

First time visiting today, after walking past so many times, on the way to Guys Hospital. Nice little place, perfect spot, obviously gets busy. Reservations bookings available. Small and cosy inside, with adequate seating outside. Greeting with a smile and service was prompt and polite. Cappacino coffee tasted great, but the Cheese & Ham Crossaint let this visit down. Unfortunately, there was no offer to have it warm, not sure they have the facility for such, to be fair. It wasn't as fresh as it looked. It was dry and dence inside and not fluffy & buttery and the ham was dry, chewy and had a lot of fat on it. Maybe the fact that the pastries are by the street door to this establishment and they are not covered, could have alot to do with how fresh they stay. My visit was at around 10:15am. Thank you for having me, Crol & Co. 🙂

Izzy was amazing! Her knowledge of beer and coffee is second to none. When she’s not working hard in hospitality she is travelling the world. Not many people know this (because she doesn’t brag) but she is a very successful violinist and is in demand around the world. Great gaff, great service, great people!

Cute coffee shop that also serves drinks. The inside is decorated like a jazz bar, there aren’t many seats, but they also have limited outside seating. There are some cakes you can purchase to have with your coffee. Unfortunately when I visited on Monday morning 8am, they still have had yet to receive their croissant delivery. I ordered a flat white, which comes in a beautiful green cup. However the coffee tasted a bit bitter (not sure if it was the milk tho) . Service was very friendly, I felt very welcome.

I wanted to love this place a lot especially because the service was great and staff are so sweet but as a bakery connoisseur the pain au pistachio was good but not great. Abit too dense and it had that fake pistachio cream flavour. Coffee was ok aswell.

SUCH a cool spot! Felt like a London influencer because it’s so tucked away and cute x Had amazing birthday drinks here - the staff especially Nina were so cool and kind and lovely and accommodating (great drinks and atmosphere!)

This is my favourite spot in London Bridge for my morning coffee and my evening cocktail. The service is warm and friendly, the music is always on point, and there's a nice variety of seating options: you can tuck away in a corner with your laptop if you're working, sit up at the counter for some friendly chats with the staff, or pitch up at one of the outdoor tables to do some people watching. Favourite cocktail: cherry spritz.
