Cromlix Hotel

"How did it strike you on arrival? This meticulously resorted Victorian manse set on 34 acres of Scottish woodlands first made headlines in 2014, when it was acquired by none other than tennis star Andy Murray, who hails from this part of Perthshire. Yet you'll find almost no trace of the pro here other than his fondness for this nook of the Highlands. Nice. What’s the crowd like?People who want a true Scottish experience, from rousing walks through the countryside to long after-dinner nightcaps by the fire. How was check-in?With only 15 rooms in the main house, each and every guest receives a warm, personalized welcome. It feels like less of a traditional hotel and more like your fanciest Scottish friend's Highland house. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. There are ten bedrooms: Five suites and a Gate Lodge on the property, all of which are decorated with their own individual touches and overlook the hotel's gardens and surrounding countryside. The decor is historic and traditional without feeling dusty, with most of the bedrooms outfitted with antique Scottish furniture. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? As with any Scottish estate, it's all about the daytime activities. Cromlix offers tennis coaching on their own Wimbledon-grade courts (of course), loch fishing, archery, garden games, and falconry. Room service and food: Worth it?Famed French chef Albert Roux runs the kitchen at Chez Roux at Cromlix, offering up elegant French-meets-Scottish food. There is also a whiskey room where guests can kick back and enjoy a number of different Scottish whiskies, as well as rooms for private dining. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Although just three miles from the town of Dunblane and a mere 45 minutes from Edinburgh airport, Cromlix manages to keep its off-the-grid Scottish Highlands vibe alive and well without sacrificing convenience. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Come here for a Scottish Highlands experience befitting the laird Andy Murray himself. It offers many of the experiences and opportunities of the larger Highland estates, but offers far more intimacy being just a fraction of their size." - Todd Plummer

Cromlix Hotel (Stirlingshire, UK) 5 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"There’s often good reason to be skeptical about hotels with celebrity connections, but it’s plain that this one is a labor of love — the Scottish tennis champion Sir Andy Murray grew up in Dunblane, the next town over, so when Cromlix, a family favorite, came on the market, he jumped at the chance. And what’s perhaps most surprising for a classic hotel with a young celebrity owner is just how traditional Cromlix remains." - Tablet Hotels

Cromlix Hotel | Best places to stay in the Scottish Highlands

"Tennis superstar Andy Murray has seen his share of swish hotels during his career – and in 2014 decided to open his own. Just outside his home town of Dunblane in the Highlands. Cromlix is a handsome, turreted Victorian mansion surrounded by 34 acres of carefully tended grounds – and a tennis court, of course. Purple and green (Wimbledon’s colours), it’s the only reference to its famous owner. Inside it’s sumptuous Highland house-living, with a grand games room and whisky snug, stags heads on the walls, wood-paneling, fine antiques and opulent fabrics. There are 15 old-school-traditional bedrooms and suites (named after famous Scots such as Robert the Bruce) and a strikingly contemporary Chez Roux restaurant. This is one for those wanting a taste of a high-end Highland house-party. " - Lucy Gillmore

What an amazing stay, made even better by a complimentary upgrade to the Dahlia suite, which was stunning. Loved the house, the grounds, the food and, most of all, the wonderful staff who were so lovely and happy to chat. Had a lovely walk, drinks in the bar (gorgeous space!) and a fabulous dinner. Breakfast was also delicious and a good choice. Felt very spoiled, especially sitting by the log fire after dinner. Anyone due to visit for the first time, you are in for a treat.

I don’t know where to start having spent two nights here with the tasting menu, afternoon tea (go for savoury which, understandably, since introduced has proved incredibly popular) standard evening dinner menu and two breakfasts.|Wow! Simply superb in every area. Food and service has been so good. The feel of the hotel, attention to detail and friendliness is outstanding. |We were blown away by the savoury afternoon tea, just gorgeous. Staying here is an incredible experience, we’ve loved exploring the grounds (coats, wellies and umbrellas provided), chatting to the chickens who roam freely, the outdoor tent and games on the lawn.

We have had lunch at the Cromlix yesterday and enjoyed 3 courses. The food was delicious and the bread was warm. We like that the butter was room temperature. To service was lovely. We love that the hotel is dog friendly and the gardens are well kept. We enjoyed the design and the wall papers. We will be back. Thanks

What a wonderful welcome on a wonderful day - sun is in the sky, we were welcomed by the lovely Sharon at the entrance, on which she gave a brief history of the property before heading through for afternoon tea which was truely special, an open kitchen which was exciting to see everthing getting prepped and expedited - the room was slightly dated but I believe there is major plans for the New Year (this didn`t spoil our tea though) Shola was our friendly server with great knowledge of the complex offering of teas and savouries / pastries. We were given a informed tour of their own Chapel which was stunning by Barry I believe the Manager.|Afterwards we strolled through the magnificent grounds, herb garden next to the tennis courts (of course)|I wouldn`t hesitate on booking tew again !

We had heard so much about Cromlix and were very much looking forward to our visit. |The hotel premises we saw are outstanding and cannot be faulted, so original, beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished.||However, we were there for afternoon tea which we found disappointing. Perhaps we are too traditional, but surely there is nothing wrong with a choice of sandwiches and a selection of “normal” cakes as a basic part of an afternoon tea? The menus need to be far more simple.||I have read many of the reviews and accept that what might not suit us is acceptable to others.||I also note from the reviews that there is managerial comment when reviews are complimentary but no comment when reviews are critical. Surely criticism is worthy of response and if addressed might lead to an improvement of the overall package on offer.

We had a lovely lunch served to us in the drawing room. The staff were very friendly and attentive to my special dietary needs. We felt we were home in a luxurious hotel. We even had our picture taken by a member of staff at the entrance and reception. I asked about accessibility parking it is available with valet service. The weather was cloudy but dry. A great time was had by all.

Our stay at the Cromiix was exceptional. The woman who checked us in was wonderful and took the time to show us around the property. By the time we arrived at our room, our luggage was there waiting for us — the only time that happened across 8 hotel stays over two weeks. The room itself was cozy and comfortable, updated enough to include modern amenities while keeping the charm of the manor house.||We ate dinner at the restaurant and the food was extremely good. I requested the halibut without the accompanying shellfish, and the chef not only accommodated the request but provided a larger portion of the halibut. We had a lemon dessert that was unbelievably good.||We had to leave for the airport extremely early, and the hotel provided us coffee and pastries at 5:45am. ||We stayed in many 5-star hotels throughout our vacation, but the Cromlix was the most exceptional by far. Highly recommend.

It’s fair to say this has to be in one of our top 3 best hotel stays. First impressions were immediately top drawer, a beautifully presented layout, air filled with a lovely scent and a quiet calming environment. The concierge was incredibly well versed in her role and her attitude was exceptional. She made us feel welcome from the off and had clearly done her research having picked up from the booking that we were celebrating our anniversary. In fact throughout our stay numerous members of staff sought to congratulate us and celebrate our special occasion. In my experience It’s very rare to see staff so well informed and a team so joined up so to elevate their guests experience to this extent. We’ve been lucky enough to stay in some of Europe's best hotels but I’d go so far to say this was the best experience from a service perspective we’ve ever received. It truly made our stay special and the attention to detail given to us was genuinely outstanding. Thank you very much to the entire team for making our stay so memorable.

Yelp
Afternoon tea. We were staying in Edinburgh and spent a small fortune on a taxi to get to Cromlix. We do high tea often so we have a lot to compare to. Was well worth it! The best scones we've ever had! The beef bourguignon in a tiny croissant and the Battenberg cake were also particularly special. The decor and grounds were amazing. Beautiful. We went at Christmas time. The food was spectacular. We would highly recommend.

Yelp
Tea was above and beyond. Way more than we anticipated and delicious. My first taste of haggis was a success due to their flaky pastry and perfect amount of haggis

Yelp
Okay - for those that don't know, Andy Murray bought Cromlix House a couple of years ago & it opened its doors in 2014 as a 15 bedroom hotel, with Albert & Michel Roux at the helm of the Restaurant. On coming here (admittedly, for a wedding venue viewing), first impressions as you drive up, is that it has been beautifully restored & renovated to an exquisite standard, to match any 5* hotel in the country. Interior decor was simply to die for. The bedrooms are higher than any standard I've been to (and I've been to a lot!). Whilst the venue itself is stunning, we decided to stay back & have a spot of late lunch/early dinner in one of the informal lounges (restaurant was closed before evening service) General Manager took us through & from start to finish, the service from every individual, was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble & more importantly, it was not contrived in the slightest. I had wheat/gluten free mini burgers & Fiona had a grilled chicken caesar salad. Again, the lady serving us was coming back and forth checking that the ingredients were okay and how the food was. The food was simply nothing short of BRILLIANT! I know we never made it for a full dining experience, but if this is a sample of what a full dinner service is for 'bar' food, this is head and shoulders above so many places. My burgers were so tender & the fact that they had their own wheat free buns, that didn't taste of cardboard, made me even happier! The chicken on the salad was so tender & bursting with flavour. Couldn't not have dessert, so Fiona had an apple toffee pudding (OMG) and I have a Lemon Tart, which is a Roux signature dish & HOLY COW, it was the best thing in my mouth ever. I broke my wheat diet to eat it & I didn't regret it lol. They are doing a winter deal for dinner bed and breakfast, with a double room, for £295. That might sound a lot, but for the whole package reduced from £495 and what we saw & ate, this is the only place to consider for a romantic night away & get MAJOR brownie points as a result. We are coming back here for dinner in the restaurant & will probably do the above deal to stop over. You have totally got to VISIT & EAT here - NOW! :-D

Yelp
We had lunch today at Cromlix. We were met by a very friendly young girl, introduced to Management who were extremely polite and welcoming. A pre lunch drink in the bar, served by a delightful bar man. Every course was fabulous and the waitresses were most attentive. food was excellent, good quality and certainly not overpriced.Indeed all members of staff were friendly and professional. I would recommend a visit to Cromlix House.
