America's Best Seafood Markets

"A 52-year-old family-run Charleston, South Carolina seafood shop prized for a vast, rotating selection of whole fish and fillets sourced from coasts ranging from Maine to the Florida Keys—think snapper, grouper, halibut, and flounder. Shellfish offerings include stone crab claws, live lobsters, crabs, crawfish, and clams, and the on-site food truck serves ready-to-eat options like fish tacos, crab dip, and JO-seasoned peel-and-eat shrimp, all enjoyed with waterfront views where dolphins and fishing boats often pass by." - Julekha Dash

Crosby’s Fish and Shrimp Co. offers a vibrant spot on Folly Beach with fresh seafood and a welcoming atmosphere. The seating area is a highlight, providing a comfortable and scenic place to enjoy the coastal vibe. The paid fishing pier is a nice touch for those looking to cast a line, adding to the overall experience of visiting this waterfront gem. However, the food truck’s offerings left something to be desired. The crab cake was disappointing, lacking visible crab meat and falling short of expectations for a seafood-focused spot. The grilled fish, while fresh, was overly salty, which overshadowed the natural flavors. Overall, the food truck’s dishes felt average and could use refinement to match the quality of the setting. Despite the food truck’s shortcomings, the fresh seafood selection and inviting seating make Crosby’s worth a visit for the ambiance and pier access. I’d recommend sticking to the raw or lightly prepared seafood options and skipping the crab cake until the recipe improves.

We are from Phoenix and all of the staff treated us like we were their friends . Fresh catches inside and great cooked food outside. Shark bites are awesome. Highly recommend this if you are in the low country!

The food is delicious and obviously fresh. No need to go to a fancy seafood restaurant when you can get some of the best seafood in Charleston here. Also fun to watch the dolphins, birds, and boats pass by. Highly recommend, but time it right so it doesn’t take you an hour to get down Folly Road.

Local Charm, Fresh Fish and a Great Vibe at Crosby’s…! We finally stopped by Crosby’s after driving past it several times during our stay on Folly Beach - glad we did! While we didn’t eat on-site, we really enjoyed walking around the property, meeting their friendly shop dog Crosby and checking out everything they had to offer. They’ve got a great selection of fresh fish, local seafood, fishing gear and some fun Crosby-branded merch. We picked up a few items to bring back to Texas and cook at home. It’s a laid-back, authentic spot with real Lowcountry charm. Definitely worth the stop whether you’re stocking up for dinner or just curious to check it out.

We ordered shark bites and shrimp at the food truck. Shrimp didn’t have much taste, but the shark was unique! Hushpuppies were excellent.

We flew home to Charleston after an extended trip to Florida and decided to meet a friend a late lunch. It was hot as the devil out but we sat in the shade and had a nice breeze coming off of the water. The fried shrimp and slaw were fantastic. The portions are bigger than they look and for the price can’t be beat. I had to share because I couldn’t eat it all. My wife got the tacos and had nothing but great things to say about them. Always a great go to spot! After waiting to long we came back. Today we both got the “adult lunchbox” which includes two tacos, a side, and a beer. Like last time it was very tasty and fresh. My wife and I both agreed that the shrimp taco is only slightly better than the fish. The hush puppies may be the best I’ve had. Will not wait so long before our next visit.

Been going to Crosby's for fresh seafood ever since we relocated to South Carolina from NY 4 years ago. Nicest people. Freshest seafood you can find . Always a wide variety of fresh fish on display, various dips and spreads also available. We recently relocated from Summerville to West Ashley so I make a weekly visit to pick up something good. Support your local fishermen and shrimpers !!!!

Hello my Name is Fred. I visited Crosby's FishAnd Shrimp. And I'm going golfing back every Chance I get. The people were nice and friendly. They even gave me a shirt. I'm gonna wear it all over the Black Mountain area and brag on them when asked awsome place awsome people. 10 stars.

Yelp
***This review is for the food truck NOT the seafood market**^ "Decent spot for seafood, but my experience was underwhelming. Ordered the shrimp basket expecting perfectly cooked shrimp, but they were overcooked to the point of being tough. In a place that specializes in seafood, I expected better. The atmosphere was nice, but the food didn't live up to the hype. Might give it another try, but hoping for better execution next time."

Yelp
I stopped by Crosby's fish and seafood company on a Friday and lunch time. We tried the food truck. They are open Thurs-Saturday 11-4pm. I ordered the grilled shrimp tacos with coleslaw. I had a seat at a table located on the boardwalk overlooking Folly Beach. It was absolutely gorgeous. They play all the great tunes from the 70's and 80's. You can pay to fish from the dock or just enjoy watching the dolphins, birds and stingrays. After eating you can visit the store.and buy fresh seafood. The boardwalk is dog friendly and they will even bring out some ice water in a bowl for your pup! The food was very, very good. This is a must see!

Yelp
We love Crosby's! No only is their seafood fresh but their staff is amazing and super friendly. If you have any questions, they are more than helpful! The building is inviting and very laid back, offering fresh seafood, local artist merchandise as well as Crosby's merchandise. Not to mention somedays they have a food truck outside and they also offer kayak and paddle board rentals. In our opinion they have the best seafood options around! We recently moved to Summerville and still drive down to Folly to get Crosby's fresh seafood. What can I say, when somethings deliciously fresh, the drive to get it doesn't matter! If you haven't checked out Crosby's, you need to stop sleeping on them and go check them out.
google avatar

Yelp
Crosby's fish and shrimp are as local as you can get in terms of seafood, shellfish and decor, but the prices are higher than Cherry Point and JC Seafood. For this reason I am only giving them 4 stars! The tile fish is excellent and fresh caught. That's the main reason why we drive from JZI. Service is also great!
google avatar

Sean F.

Yelp
I'm a Crosby's superfan. Their selection is quite impressive. They literally have everything except for live crabs and live lobster. Seriously, they have gator, shark bites, conch, and so many other things that most of the other local markets don't have. Between their fresh seafood market and their food truck that serves all types of deliciousness in their parking lot, you can't go wrong.

Yelp
Woo hooo! What a place! We stopped here on our way back home and had a great lunch with a cold beer out on the pier after picking up fresh fish to prepare for dinner later that night.

Yelp
Awesome local place amazing seafood and views when I come back again will definitely revisit

Yelp
Crosby's Fish and Shrimp Company is a great place to pick up fresh sea food at a reasonable price. They have fast and friendly service. The store sets right next to the boat dock where the sea food is brought in fresh. They have a wide variety of fish and seafood to choose from. They also sell bait and fishing tackle in the shop. Besides the store, there is a great little food truck at Crosby's where you can get your food to go or enjoy it setting at the tables on the boat dock while watching the dolphins. I ordered the fish and shrimp tacos, and they were absolutely delicious. If you enjoy a cold beverage, they have a variety of different beers to choose from. If you would like to burn off a few calories, they also rent kayaks and paddle boards. I do recommend Crosby's!

Yelp
Amazing! The perfect seaside stop. We had shrimp and fish tacos, shark bites, and crab dip!

Yelp
I love hitting up Crosbys food truck after a morning at the beach! Wish they were open on Sundays! My go to is the shrimp burrito with fries but everything I've tried has been amazing! My husband likes the lunch box deal that comes with a beer, entree, and side.

Yelp
We recently vacationed on Folly Beach. We cook most of our meals at the rental. Crosby's really enhanced the trip with it's wonderful selection of seafood! Everything we purchased was fresh and good. The staff are wonderful and making shopping enjoyable. We hope to return soon!

Yelp
Amazing food and an awesome view! Such a great experience on a beautiful day. It was packed but still got food in a reasonable time.

Yelp
Just tried Crosbys food truck and it was great! The fried fish tacos were amazing and we tried the shark bites for fun which were also really good. It's a family run business and everyone is super polite and helpful! The food came out in five minutes and the seating is along the pier of making it a beautiful lunch. In the building upstairs there's a seafood and bait & tackle shop that's fun to check out as well. Love this place!!

Yelp
When in Charleston or Folly Beach, a visit to Crosby's Fish & Shrimp market is a must if you like seafood. They sit right on the water on Folly Beach Road. During our stay, we visited daily to pick up fresh local fish, shrimp, oysters and clams. The staff will tell you what makes the local seafood so special. The local cluster oysters are saltier than others. You can pick up a basket of them for about $19. The shrimp is fresh and flavorful with prices starting from $10/lb for medium. We picked up some for gumbo. They also offer fillets of local caught fish. The staff is friendly and will offer to add ice to you purchase. They will give advice on how to keep your fish fresh. They offer the kind of service that makes you want to keep coming back. They also carry all the supplies that you might need to cook the fish with including Old Bay seasoning, assorted bread crumbs, rice, and much more. Prices are reasonable. We picked up an oyster knife for only $5. If you are a fisherman, you can also pick up bait and supplies for fishing. On weekends, there is a food truck outside that offers an interesting menu of shrimp and fish tacos and other dishes. The truck was not open during our visits. I'll be back. Love it.

Yelp
The fish tacos were awesome!!! Super fresh. The hush puppies we delicious. Your going to pay premium for fresh fish but it's very good. It's a small food trailer they serve you out of. Eat right in the doc and you can fish if you bring your own stuff.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing company that continues to maintain traditions while keeping up with the times. Crosby's now offers a weekend food truck along with its fresh seafood offerings. To those not familiar with Crosby's, they do not have the traditional look and feel of a seafood market, so it can be confusing for those that don't know the company and the area. But if you do, they have consistently offered great fresh local seafood, consistent service and if you are a photography, remarkable photo options. Catch the sunset or sunrise. Admire the shrimping boats and just taking the aesthetic of the Lowcountry just off of Folly Road.
google avatar

Zac S.

Yelp
Stopped off for the food truck on Friday. Service was great, seating on the dock was great, food was pretty good. I can't knock the freshness, but the fish/shrimp tacos were a bit bland. They were much improved with some tarter sauce and hot sauce, which we may not have needed if they didn't skimp on the sriracha mayo (or left it out for self-serve) or if the fried fish was breaded with a bit more seasoning.

Yelp
Love this spots Fresh seafood shrimp , fish roe, shrimp Also the food truck has tons of yummy food Perfect for after beach eats
google avatar

Yelp
We made it into the shop right before closing and we're treated with the same kind of patient hospitality you would expect if you were the first customer of the day. Great local seafood at excellent prices. We are really glad we stopped in, and we will be back the next time we're in the Lowcountry.
google avatar

Yelp
Reviews pointed me to this spot for fresh seafood and it did not disappoint. Selection was small, but super-fresh. Over two trips sampled oysters, grouper, scallops, yellowtail snapper, and black sea bass. I'm no expert at fish cookery but these cooked up fantastically. Shucked and ate 4 dozen of their oysters raw and all were delicious. They also carry a nice selection of local specialty groceries (cornmeal, Carolina gold rice, etc) to get you cooking and some bait and tackle if you're into casting for your own. Overall a great spot- will be back when in town.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
A great fresh fish selection upstairs in the market, get some great seafood from the food truck out front, or heck: get it all! If you decide to eat from the food truck, there is seating underneath the market to enjoy it fresh from the trailer. It's completely shaded and has a lovely view!! Everything is delicious and well priced. Keep it up Crosby's!!
google avatar

Andrew G.

Yelp
On the way to Folly Beach countless times I've past right by this food truck at outside of Crosby's and finally my wife talked us into stopping and eating lunch there, and I am so thankful that we did! They have surprisingly a really cool area outside with tables near the water and under some shade as well. The food came out decently fast and was excellent. The seafood platter gave us fried shrimp and a mix of different types of fried fish, all of it was perfectly fried and delicious! Fries were solid too. Shark bites were my first time trying shark and I am regretting not trying them earlier, also perfectly cooked little shark nuggets were great. Stop by, you'll be glad you did!

Yelp
Was looking for fresh scallops. This was perfect. Picked up on the way home from Folly. Pleasant service. Fresh and delicious.

Yelp
came here for a doggone dock party as we do in the south. wanted to show my gal pal from newport beach a sweet southern night and she was not disappointed. we got some BREWSKIES- Pacificos of course (not my gal pal cleo she's more of a corona girl which is not as speedy) and we were destined for a good night. one of my gal pals fell in love here and my other gal pal really fell out of love here. funny how life turns out sometimes. anyway i think you would want to know about how she fell out of love-more on that later we sat on the dock and enjoyed the view and when we were ready we got to swangin on the dance floor. It was a great time, until my gal pal's man came up to her and started dancing with her. turns out he had two left feet. we laugh about it now and we laughed about it back then because it was funny. never say no to a night with your gal pals it is always such a good time

Yelp
Customer service always in point. Have been coming here for over 20yrs! Large shrimp for $15.99/lb. Worth every penny!
google avatar

Erin T.

Yelp
We've been picking up fresh seafood and bait from Crosbys for years. Wonderful people who provide a few perks to local regulars. The new dock and food truck are great perks! While I was disappointed they stopped selling the seafood platter (better than Bowens) they still have great food options. My personal favorites are the hushpuppies and fish (usually flounder). Summer dock parties are a fun addition.

Yelp
Super cute food truck! Their seafood is top notch which delicious shrimp tacos, shrimp burritos and sea food chowder! Definitely stop by here on your way to folly beach and enjoy lunch on their pier where you can often see dolphins or enjoy lunch on the beach! If your wanting more shrimp or seafood definitely head up to their market where you can buy more fresh seafood
google avatar

Yelp
Great service, great prices! I definitely recommend! Various types of fish/bait and merchandise!
google avatar

Yelp
The food was good. Outside dining came with the ambiance of the birds singing and nats flying. You really get the outdoors vibe.
google avatar

Gabriela D.

Yelp
THE PLACE TO GET SEAFOOD. I swear I could eat the ceviche everyday and never get tired of it. The batter for the fried fish/shrimp is perfect. And obviously the daily fresh caught seafood is the star of the show. It is closed until march for the winter and I am counting down the days I can get it.
google avatar

Anne O.

Yelp
Whenever I head out to Folly Beach, I always stop here on the way home, anticipating delicious grouper for dinner! Since traffic can be difficult in the summer, I clearly need to hit the Charleston store. There are also lots of Charleston products for sale, grits, spices and all, so a great spot for tourists to see all the goods we offer here in Charleston, SC.

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
Cute little food truck. Take your food to go or sit anywhere you'd like. Locally sourced fish. Has canned beers, and ciders/seltzers.
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
I hope that I can one day meet Mr Crosby to personally thank him for such an amazing place. This is the epitome of local, fresh & delicious! The food truck was fast & delicious - they recommended the hush puppies & they did not disappoint! Perfectly fried, yet fluffy and delicious on the inside. The grilled fish tacos had a generous size piece of fish with fresh and delicious toppings! The views were incredible, sitting on the dock, surrounded by water we saw dolphins and the most incredible lightening show! 10/10 recommend stopping at Crosby's
google avatar

Rodd S.

Yelp
This is a working fish market on the water. Fresh fish friendly and knowledgeable employees. A true diamond in the rough. We ate at the picnic tables on the deck with food from the food trailer. Shrimp tacos, shrimp quesadilla and shark bites. The BOMB!!! I could eat here everyday.

Betsy M.

Yelp
Great selection of FRESH everything. Reasonable prices considering quality and market value
google avatar

Grant N.

Yelp
Very fresh and lots of selections. Smaller than expected, but they also have a food truck!
google avatar

Kait S.

Yelp
5 stars for the food truck, seafood counter and service! Everyone we spoke with was incredibly nice and friendly. We ate hushpuppies, a shrimp burrito, shrimp tacos and the shark bites from the food truck. All were amazing, particularly the burrito and hushpuppies! Then on our way back from the beach we stopped to get seafood to take home with us. 10/10 can't miss on your trip to Folley Beach!
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
Amazing scallops and shrimp! 8 scallops were about $10 and worth every penny. Simply pan sauteed in butter with salt and and pepper for a few minutes, perfection! Shrimp available deveined and peeled or not. Prices were very reasonable and the flavors were wonderful. The staff is helpful and they offer lots of cooking supplies to supplement your meal. The view of the marsh is beautiful. There's a food truck that is sometimes open too! I will come back here Everytime I visit Folly's.
google avatar

Emma R.

Yelp
Always the first stop before Folly Beach. Early hours are convenient to get bait before heading to the pier
google avatar

Hanna F.

Yelp
This is a great little place to stop by on your way back from the beach. Grab some seafood to cook at home and have a small bite to eat . It's a seafood market with a food truck on the weekends- A tad on the pricey side for both the market and truck but worth it for the flavor and location! I had the crab cake 1 (for 5$) and my hubs had the shrimp taco- but the best part were the resident dolphins we saw while sipping on a beer on the water way!
google avatar

Yelp
Crosby's Fish & Shrimp Company is a convenient place for purchasing seafood, including oysters. Crosby's is located next to a bridge that links James Island with Folly Beach. As part of my laboratory work at the Grice Marine Laboratory on the site of former Fort Johnson on James Island, I needed to buy a box of fresh oysters every month. My experiments were on the cells that were in the hemolymph of the oysters. Because my experiments were only on the hemolymph, after completing my experiments, I stir-fried my the unused oysters in a laboratory beaker (not the hemolymph part), and that was my evening snack. I discovered that the pier in back of Crosby's was a popular place for pelicans, because of the boxes of yummy scraps that Crosby's employees left on the pier. I took advantage of this popularity to take photographs of the happy crew of hungry pelicans. Notable among these photographs are images showing: (1) Sitting pelican biting the beak of a flying pelican. (2) Stargazing (I have not been able to find out why pelicans often throw their head in the air, where the beak points directly at the sky) (3) Trumpet blower. This is similar to stargazing. (4) Marching band. See the pelican ducking down, so that it does not get struck by the flying pelican. (5) "Here's looking at you, kid." (6) Rubbing top of head on oil gland located on pelican's rear. (7) Squadron of dive-bombing pelicans in an air raid. (8) Preening pelican with neck forming a U-shape.

Yelp
We ate from the food truck and got the fried fish and shrimp combo and a shrimp taco also. The shrimp man's fish were seasoned well. There is a covered area to eat your meal but no indoor seating. Inside you can buy fresh seafood that is mostly locally caught.

Rhonda K.

Yelp
Super helpful! Fresh fish! Reasonably priced! Highly recommend. We brought our grill with us and bought fresh fish and seafood each day!
google avatar

Julia L.

Yelp
The Hush puppies, shrimps, and fried snapper was delicious!!! The area behind the truck was very pleasant to sit and enjoy the meal. The bathrooms very clean and the staff was delightful.

Yelp
This review is for the food truck. Sadly, I can't review the fish market. I would love to return to buy some local tuna, shark, or any of the other yummy looking things they had there. We ordered the shark bites, crab cake, clam strips, a fish taco, and a shrimp taco(grilled not fried). We wanted to try it all. I'm so glad we did. Everything had different flavors and all of them were fantastic. Now, this isn't a restaurant. There is a fish market with bait and tackle, plus so much more if you go upstairs. If you want to eat you have to order from the food truck. There are tables scattered in different locations. You just pick one and wait for your number to be called. For about $40 my husband and I stuffed ourselves to our hearts' content. We didn't try the fries or hush puppies since we didn't need any more fried food. So I can't comment on those. Also, they had beer as part of a lunch special. Not sure what kind. But that seemed to be popular. We enjoyed watching the boats pass while we enjoyed our lunch. If you want a GREAT little meal and don't want to be too fancy, you must give this place a try.
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
A fantastic fish market. Right on the water. Lots of fresh seafood and lots of local, right-off-the-boat, selections. The staff is super nice and helpful. A good selection of spices and sauces. We got fresh NC oysters, which had just the right mix of fresh taste and brine. Also got their crab dip, which was a perfect afternoon snack on the beach. Great place.
google avatar

Holly W.

Yelp
Wants to pick up fresh fish, shrimp, & more to cook while staying at Folly this is your place. Even had really yummy crab dip, shrimp dip, and much more. Little local Bloody Mary mixes and the best pop known only to the Carolina Regions. Also need bait? They will get you any kind of bait you need and hints to all the great fishing spots!
google avatar

Daquarium M.

Yelp
Fried shrimp and french frys for 14 bills but they only do that outta the van you gotta come when they open and not when they just selling fish and stuff above in that shack but its pricey
