Recent Chicago Restaurant and Bar Openings, April 2025 | Eater Chicago

"A neighborhood taproom and pizza spot that’s a spinoff of a Rosemont brewing operation, occupying the former Leader Bar. The focus is on tavern-style pizzas, with a selection of sandwiches, plenty of beer on tap, and a dedicated kids’ menu, making it a casual, family-friendly option in Irving Park." - Serena Maria Daniels

Crust Tap Room - Review - Irving Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Crust Tap Room is a sports bar and restaurant from the people behind Crust Brewing in Rosemont. In addition to their signature beers, this Irving Park spot also has tavern-style and “deep” pizza—no, not deep dish. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - John Ringor

North Siders will see Crust Tap Room replace Leader Bar | Eater Chicago

"An Irving Park corner space that closed in December and long operated as Leader Liquors/Leader Bar will be reimagined as a neighborhood pizza pub by the owners of a suburban brewery based in Rosemont. The brewery "specializes in lagers made from a 2,000-liter Kaspar-Schulz brewery that was designed, engineered, and manufactured in Bamberg, Germany." Its Vienna amber lager, aptly called Dough Roller, "features a malty, sweet, and hoppy flavor profile — a nod to the spot’s practice of using its own beer to make its pizza dough, according to Block Club Chicago." Bradley Cool, director of operations for the Rosemont brewery, tells Block Club that "about half of the beer and food offerings available at the Rosemont locations will be on offer at the new neighborhood spot." The new spot occupies a roughly 3,500-square-foot space where minor renovations have been completed; it will serve tavern-style pizza (rather than Neapolitan pies), and beer will continue to be brewed in Rosemont with the goal of eventually carrying several styles on tap. The brewery behind the project opened in 2022 in Rosemont’s Parkway Bank Park entertainment district, set within the former Hofbräuhaus (which closed in 2021). Historically, the property was a quintessential neighborhood corner dive bar known as Leader Liquors before being recast as Leader Bar in 2011 by father-and-son operators Josef Matuschka and Michael Matuschka (the team behind the shuttered Max Bar and Nikki, formerly Crobar). A March opening is planned." - Serena Maria Daniels

Great salad (random)! The pizza was awesome I liked the thin crust better and got to try the pepperoni which was the best pizza I’ve had in the last year, and the fig pizza which isn’t typical for me but I actually really loved it. This will be a nice place to watch sports, tons of TVs, darts, great beer list. I’ll be back again very soon. :)

I loved my experience at Crust Tap Room. The food was excellent! This is a great addition to the neighborhood and can’t wait to go back for more!

The former Leader Bar is now Crust Brewing. They offer significant portions while maintaining excellent quality, a fun, sporty ambiance, and, most importantly, outstanding service. It’s quickly becoming one of our favorite spots in the area. They also have great beers!

Instagram: @FritzNFood Went to the Crust Tap Room on Irving Park, a very new establishment serving fun bar food with some unique twists. We tried the Poke Nachos which were delicious, and such a unique take on standard nachos. Served with wonton chips instead of tortilla chips, and a spicy sauce instead of cheese. More than enough meat to make these nachos special! Next it was the 312 Empanadas, beef and giardinara stuffed with a light au juice dipping sauce. Not the most flavorful option and perhaps a bit too bland to add much to a classic empanadas. Lastly it was The Fig Is In pizza, which comes with prosciutto, spinach, and mushrooms with a light white sauce with a fig sweet flavoring. It was a well done Crust of the pizza to fit the establishments name, and the pizza had a nice savory/ sweet flavor to knock the white sauce take out of the park, my biggest gripe is the uneven minimal amount of prosciutto. Overall a nice atmosphere, extremely proficient, tentative staff, a nice take on bar food in a fairly underserved area! Check it out!

Google
Had their Crust Signature deep pizza and Pac Standard beer and both didn’t disappoint. Pizza was delicious and beer was flavorful and refreshing. We also had The Romano salad, which was really good, but the pizza crack wasn’t good or needed. Definitely recommend and will be back! They also have good seating options for larger groups

Gotta start by saying: the service staff is amazing, the food and drink are great, and this is why I’ve become a regular at Crust in the past few months since its opening in my neighborhood. I’m there at least once or twice a week to watch a game or grab dinner and an after work craft beer. But I witnessed one of the most unprofessional and appalling incidents of a manager berating one of the bartenders in front of both me as a guest and other service staff last night, and I don’t know if I will ever be back after this. In my many visits to Crust, I’ve always enjoyed the food and drink and excellent service provided by their staff, particularly their bartenders like Kurt and Brian and their servers like Jay. They are knowledgeable, helpful, and seem to genuinely care about their product and work. But I have noticed on several occasions that some of their managers tend to sit away from patrons, facing the kitchen, and quite often playing on their phones while the rest of staff are working around them. They don’t greet patrons as they walk in, they don’t interact with patrons at all. It seemed odd, but I looked past it because everything else seemed great. Last night, I was finishing my meal and drink around closing when a manager came over to speak to the bartender and proceeded to get in his face and loudly berate him (in plain view and earshot of myself and two other staff members) for wanting to keep music on while closing up and for wanting windows open during business hours to bring in business? When the bartender asked why the manager refused to have fun at work, she replied “Because I’m working!” And the bartender said “So am I, but I still manage to have fun while I do it.” I was mortified as a patron but I cannot imagine this experience as one of the staff members to have a manager behave so rudely and unprofessionally to and in front of their subordinates. If a serious matter needs to be discussed, an employee can be taken aside and away from patrons and other employees. I’ve worked in and around the service industry for over 20 years, and this was the most shocking display I have ever witnessed. Again, I love the service, the food, and the beer, but if this is how management treats their employees, I can’t continue to support such a business. Leader Bar was awful to its employees, but sadly, Crust seems to be masquerading as good while doing the very same.

Great new neighborhood spot that I can guarantee will fulfill your food and drink needs! Everything on the menu looked so tasty that our group decided to just order a variety of things and eat family-style, and I’m SO glad we did because I got to try multiple things off the menu and everything (I literally mean everything) was delicious! We tried some pizza, wings, cheesy bread, nachos, and of course a salad to make ourselves feel “healthy” after our other choices. The pizza crust is immaculate and I highly recommend the fig pizza with the prosciutto and pistachio pesto toppings. They also have a Caesar Romano wing sauce that was mouth watering. To finish strong with something sweet, we got the cookie skillet and that was the final nail in the food coma coffin for me. While we clearly enjoyed a lot of food, they also have tons of great drink options. I got a flight of beer and also tried their espresso martini, both did not disappoint! Overall a spacious spot too with a very cool, welcoming aesthetic. Will definitely be back!

Google
We were big Leader Bar fans (until the last sale really ruined things) so we had high hopes for its replacement. Overall the beer is good - food is very good. The only miss is a lack of a kids' menu. Even the side of mac & cheese has jalapeño in it, which made it too spicy for my kids. Every time we've been in we see a ton of families, so it seems like some kid-sized meals would be a hit.

Yelp
I tried a new pizza at "Crust" this afternoon called "The Sage" which was very good. Their pizza menu is under two categories, "Red Sauce" and "White Pizza". The Sage Pizza is under "white". If you look at my attached photo you"ll see the flecks of sage. Next time I'll try the "Red Sauce", not sure which one.

Yelp
Much improved from previous business, Leaderbar. Place has been updated. Love the backlit TVs, the wood floors, cool pendant lights and the lush blue color. Otherwise, configuration is same. Crust Brewery has a small selection of craft beers for most tastes, as a Tap room should. Luckily had one hazy IPA that I liked. Lots of Lagers. Food selection is a good variety as well, expanded pub fare with some interesting twists, Poke Nachos? Service was generally friendly and good, however they mixed up my order and it came way before my husbands. I said I would keep it and they were extremely gracious about it. Husband loves apple desserts and tried the apple Empanada. Very sweet and not what will make him come back here What will make us go back is it really is a nice neighborhood place; people can walk to. I don't think people will come from other parts of the city, but I think the locals can support it.

Yelp
I'll summarize as: if you're a pizza place, and you RUN OUT OF PIZZA, you should probably make sure your server leads with that info after you wait 20 minutes for him to hit your table at all instead of taking six drink orders down first. I'm glad you're busy (place was absolutely maxed out on a Friday night, good for them) but geez. Server issues aside, the bartender and hostess were busting their asses and were great. Hopefully it's just new business jitters, but we bailed and went to Easy Street down the block instead.

Yelp
Great time at the Crust Tap Room. Everything we had was outstanding. Fast and friendly service! Great drinks and beer selection. Don't skip the cheese curds and fried pickles. Can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
Had a lovely girls night at Crust Tap Room! I've been to Crust Brewing in Rosemont and was very excited for this location to open up and they did not disappoint. Food menu is slightly different between the two (This location did not have the Hogs & Kisses Pizza) but otherwise has all the same vibes. The interior is huge and good for date night or large group events. There's a great patio section in back and they have some games like giant connect four and bags. My favorite of the drinks has to be the Orange is the new radler--refreshing, citrusy, and light. Food was great but the service was excellent! Incredibly attentive and friendly staff, constantly clearing tables, ensuring water was plenty and always nearby. Great new addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
I love the Rosemont location, so thought I'd join a friend in the Irving Park area to try this offshoot. Food is mid at best, had Korean boneless wings and the Popeye pizza (spinach, ricotta) and added sausage. Three beers and a martini later the bill was settled at $105 (after tip). That's a little more than I wished to spend at a neighborhood bar for pizza on a cracker and drinks that weren't particularly earth shattering. At those prices, I'd much rather continue trekking it to Rosemont where the pizza for some reason tastes better. This locale appears to be a watering hole for every remote-working couple in their 30s and 40s towing a baby stroller within a 6 block radius. It's giving modern-day Red Lobster, sans the crayons and color-in place mats. This further solidified it's not my cup of tea, or in this case, my pint of in-house pale ale. To be fair, Easy Street down the block is really no different when it comes to "meh" food, inflated prices and an army of couples with their children. Where I will give them their props, and where they have the competition beat is the service: 5 stars for sure. Friendly smiling staff. Bartender was on top of things. Hostess greeted guests. Bussers, barbacks and food runners holding it down. Manager on the floor and not cooped up in an office somewhere. Kitchen shuffled out food orderly and timely. My silverware was filthy, but beyond that the service was professional and the space itself was clean. Quite on par with Rosemont in the department of service. Place got busy, quick! That's a good thing and I'm sure the restaurant will do rather well. I'd come back with friends and split a tab. Food and general ambiance was good but not $105 later good. I wouldn't come out of my way to take someone here the same way I would Mima's or Beograd across the street. I could possibly be swayed to return if they had a decent happy hour menu or it repositioned itself as a late night affair. Paying $15 for an uninventive martini in a regular-schmegular part of Chicago at 4 pm? Hard pass, for now at least. Again, I think they'll do well for the patrons they seem to attract.

Yelp
Pizza was just ok. Crust seemed a little off. It was too dense or something. The wings were good. I may come back for just those. Service wasn't great. We didn't get plates with our wings or pizza. I had to go up and get napkins myself. I was underwhelmed

Yelp
Such a fun vibe! Loved the Cool as a cuke mule and the Poke nachos are to die for! Love the area and how spacious the inside is. Definitely a great addition to the neighborhood. Can't wait to be back.

Yelp
Great new addition to the neighborhood. Owner is great and genuinely loves what he does. Great variety in beers with something for everyone and love the modern take on classic cocktails.

Yelp
Great pizza and beer! Servers very attentive. Great patio that we could bring our dog to. Already been twice and will be back! Good sports bar vibe with anything you want to to watch on multiple TVs

Mike P.

Yelp
Great spot. Kid friendly while still maintaining a chill atmosphere. Solid kids menu. Good beers. Diverse bar food. Good service. I'll be back.

Rollin D.

Yelp
I am in a wheelchair and could not get in because the front has a revolving door and the side door has a step up so not accessible not me either. Very sad that we couldn't even get in the door.

Yelp
Not ready for crowds, waited over an hour for a cheese pizza. Came out with barely melted cheese and raw dough. I imagine the place will get better but go in off peak hours for the time being.

Yelp
Was so impressed with Crust! Food and drinks were great, staff is friendly, patio has a relaxing vibe. Only negative was I ordered a burger and it came out close to 10 minutes before my friend's pizza came out. Will be back again!

Jane I.

Yelp
Cheesy bread took longer than it should've. It obviously sat in the kitchen waiting to come out. It was cold and soggy. The chili lime wings were straight up NASTY. I couldn't tell if the meat was bad or if there was like burnt tajin or perhaps burnt plastic on them. They were gross. Three entrees came out separately. For the amount of people working, service was spotty and slow. I think this place probably will not last. Too bad... There's so many better places to go than this place. We will not be back.

Sophia D.

Yelp
Went for the first time tonight and enjoyed the outdoor patio. Pizza was really high quality, our weiss beer and house pinot noir were lovely. Our server John was excellent. Constructive criticism to mgmt: Play some music in place of having the ESPN commentators talking throughout the dinner hour!

Yelp
Same interior and set up as the previous restaurant (Leader Bar), but better service and food. The cocktails are great and they have tons of different types of pizzas.

Jared D.

Yelp
They opened today, needed somewhere to go after a weekend of celebrating my birthday, and thought it would be great to check out how things started. I frequent the Rosemont location because it's next door to my favorite AMC (lol), so I had an idea of how it would go. Here's the deal: perfect service, incredible tavern style pizza, TouchTunes, an insane upgrade from Leader Bar. Can't wait to go back - loved it!
