"Crust’s entire menu is worth checking out, from the delicious salads with local shrimp to pastas and sandwiches. Customize a 12-inch pie the way you like it, or opt for one of the pizzas with or without tomato sauce. The Butternut — roasted squash, mushroom, caramelized onion, goat cheese, fresh mozzarella, arugula, and truffle oil — has been beloved by fans since the restaurant’s inception. 14 Essential James Island Restaurants to Visit | Eater Carolinas

"The name says it all, as the wood-fired oven is the star forming charred crust and sizzling cheese. Chef Dusty Chorvat tops his pizzas with locally-sourced ingredients meant for high-heat cooking. Squash and onions caramelize before being finished with truffle oil on one called the Butternut, while five meats roast to perfection to make up the Crustavore." - Parker Milner

Google
Soooo good. The food is amazing. Arancini, and fries are so good!! And the pizza is even better. Seriously my favorite place! And all the staff is super nice :)

Google
Terrible service. Terrible food. Terrible seating. Dirty bar and bad service. Our pizza came out hot but the fries were COLD. Huh??? Also, Bad vibes. Do NOT Recommend. Not sure how this place is in business a busy.

Google
Good food and solid atmosphere. I wish they put more cheese towards the crust, because there’s quite a lot of crust. I mean, the name of the restaurant is Crust, but they don’t have to give you extra crust just to live up to the name. It wouldn’t be hard to add just a little bit more cheese towards the edges, and then it would be one of my favorite pizza places. Definitely good piazza and salad, and I’d eat there again. The waiter definitely could’ve been a little bit more attentive as well, but definitely wasn’t bad service. Pretty average service, but nothing that stood out as good or bad.

Google
Placed a delivery order and didn't get what I ordered. Paid extra for chicken on a salad and specified an onion allergy. Salad was loaded with onions and no chicken! "Manager" Jessie was rude and unapologetic. Refused to do anything to make things right stating "you have to take your complaint to Uber". Could have called before making the order. Also, portion size for everything was a joke!! Very poor value for $. With so many great choices in downtown Charleston, don't waste your $ here!!!!

Google
Crust is always a good meal and choice. I really love sitting at the bar and eating the pizza right out of their coal oven. I typically go for truffle oil topped with arugula. The Cesar salad with the egg is also so good! You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu though!

Google
This place is great. We came in hungry, with no expectations, and were very pleasantly surprised! Atmosphere is cozy and clean. There are a few tables on the sidewalk, but we needed the AC. Sat with the friendly and attentive bartender and started with drinks and apps. I can't recommend the meatballs enough, they were the best I've had since Grandma's homemade! I also really enjoyed the warm olives. I'll definitely get both of those every time we come. And the pizza - great chew and flavor in the thin crust. Delicious sauce and fresh toppings. We asked for well done, because we like a bit of char. It was done more than others', but no char. I assume it was just cuz they were pretty busy and needed to keep things moving. We'll try a less busy time for our next visit. Overall a really great experience and we will become regulars.

Google
Ordered a gluten free pizza for my son online and instead of canceling my order due to they couldn’t make a gluten free kids pizza, they sent a regular kids pizza with a note on the box. HORRIBLE! maybe new management? We have been ordering and dining at this establishment for years and have never had this happen to us!

Google
I ordered a cheese pizza for pickup. It was $22 and they only had one size and I wrongfully assumed it would be a decent size. When I got home and opened the box I audibly gasped. The pizza was tiny, burnt, and cold. It looked like they had pieced together scraps. I reached out to the business and there was no response.

Yelp
Amazing Pizza Amazing ingredients Excellent service! The staff are very friendly and the pizza was out of this world -Rudy

Yelp
The Arancini IS something to write home about. It is more cheese than rice, and downright delectable. The Chicken Bacon pizza missed the mark for me, but was still tasty. Just not as flavorful as anticipated. Will switch up the pizza choice next time. Cozy inside.

Yelp
This place is very cute on the inside with a little outdoor patio in front but not much to look at since it's just overlooking a parking lot. Make sure to come early as there aren't very many tables. The menu is simple but some of the sandwiches that came out to other tables looked delicious. The chicken was a little too large for being on a slice of pizza, but the meatballs were delicious and had extra marinara sauce which was great to dunk my pizza crust into. This was on my list to visit, but I feel like there are better Italian places in Charleston.

Yelp
If you're looking for something easy, affordable, and relatively tasty then Crust is the place to be. They have a small patio for outdoor seating that is dog friendly. Inside has a couple of wooden booths, bar seating and a communal table beneath dim lighting. Great wine and beer selections. I visit here occasionally and while the food isn't the best in town, it is really good. Staff is always pleasant.

Jaclyn H.

Yelp
Very slow service, disorganized hostesses make seating complicated and difficult, the incredibly mediocre pizza that takes them 90 minutes to make is served at room temp.

Yelp
Great place for pizza! We were welcome as soon as we walked in the door! Service was awesome and friendly! Our server made some amazing recommendations! We ordered a few if their specials. The wood fired scallops were absolutely amazing! The garlic panko, butter and lemon blended so nicely! We also had some warm olives, who doesn't love warm olives! We split a beat salad and the pork & peach pizza. Oh my the pizza was so delicious! The pork, peaches, feta and honey combination was simply delicious! I think I could eat this daily Lol. I forgot to take pictures because we dug in to the deliciousness! This will be a new favorite!!

Yelp
Working in the Terrace Plaza tonight I realized I forgot to pack my dinner. Starving but also money-conscious I ordered the baked pasta with meatballs. I made the right choice. The price was right-- especially since the serving and satiate-quotient were more than substantial- I'll get two meals out of it! As I entered the restaurant, although the seating areas and bar were all full, I was greeted right away by hostess and bartender. My order was taken expediently and within 12 minutes my order was ready. It was prepared perfectly, piping hot -- great for a chilly night like tonight. Nice touch was the grana padano chilled on the side in its own container. I recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
A nice pick for lunch or an early dinner. Arrive early or you may need to wait as it's on the smaller side. Very cute decor if I may add. Free parking is also a bonus! The meatballs are delicious as are any of the salads and veggies. How can you go wrong with burrata cheese? The pizza is mediocre in my opinion. I like more of a NY or New Haven style.

Yelp
We ended up choosing this pizza spot after our 6 mile 10K Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, SC. The quaint old school pizza joint feel has so many options to choose and not just pizza , pastas sandwiches, salads, and more. The specialty pizzas offered are unique and you can create your own but the topping selections include butternut squash , kale , a variety of cheeses and protein. I chose the crustacean with spicy shrimp and it lived up to its name. Whew hottt !! Yet very tasty and fresh with a pesto base. All pizzas are 12" making it the perfect size and enough for a leftover snack. The staff was very nice and managed all of our orders with efficiency. They also offer vegetarian and gluten free options as well. I love pizza and sometimes you don't know what you may get when trying something new but this was a great choice !!

Yelp
Nice & laid back place to eat. Greeted as we walked thru the door and was advised pick any seat we desired. Very nice hostess and our server was on the ball.

Yelp
As always Crust is a hit! I love the Woodfield pizzas created at crust. We went on a very busy Friday evening. We were able to get a table quickly but it took a long time for the server to greet us. During that time someone came to check on us and let us know the server knew we were here and would be out soon. I appreciated them coming to check on us and knew they were very busy. We sat outside in a tent-type area. It had a heater but our table was right next to the flap and was being opened a lot. This made our stay rather chilly. There was nothing Crust could do to prevent this but did make the stay less inviting.

Yelp
Service is outstanding and the food is just as good! Don't miss the pizza, Caesar salad, and finally the meatball appetizer.

Sarah D.

Yelp
Great food. Service & warm cozy patio area! We got the gluten free pizza. It was great! I did expect more meat to be on the "Crustivore" pizza but it was still tasty!
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Fantastic option for pizza, pasta, or sandwiches. Food was great and staff so nice! Will be going back for sure!

Yelp
This pizza place was incredible. We had a sausage and mushroom pizza, the fried risotto and an order of meatballs. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING was exceptional. We ate in downtown Charleston for four days, and this was hands down the best meal we had. I'm so sad that I don't have this place in NWI. I'll be dreaming of this food for years to come.

Mary R.

Yelp
Great gluten free pizza! I had the butternut squash and it was so unique and tasty. The best part was that our waitress Shay gave my daughter and myself great and thorough advice for our weekend visit. Her thoughtfulness really touched my heart.

Yelp
Love this place!! Ambient vibes, great service, and some of the most demanded pizza in the area. Love me a good margarita and a coke, it's always a good time eating here. I appreciate the servers and chefs for everything they do. Friends and family love it here and have gone for years! Will go again, thank you Crust!
google avatar

Aksel K.

Yelp
The fried risotto balls was the best ever go back to crust is amazing the food was good service was good and ambiance is satisfying

Yelp
We visited Crust while on a college tour and loved it! My best salad was excellent and we loved the crumbled sausage. Great little place!

Yelp
Looked up a pizza place near by. This place came up. It's a nice little bistro kinda place. We sat at the bar while we were waiting for our table. We had drinks and appetizers. We tried the meatballs. 3 meatballs were enough for a quick tweez. We all had a little bite and tried their tomatoe sauce. It was a nice start. The waitress (Jessica) was awesome, very helpful, and attentive. We waited about 15 mins for our table. We were finally seated and immediately were attended to. We ordered a kids pizza with spinach and a del ray. We liked them so much, we got another order of meatballs. We got our order pretty quick. The flavor of our pizza was very nice. Everyone enjoyed the meal. The del ray was plenty for 2. The kids size was also good for 2 people. Great taste for both.. In all, this is a very nice place with good food and good service. Parking was plenty on this night. The outdoor seating was small with just a few tables. Nice. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Came here with my parents and had a great dinner of pizza and beer! It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was busy but the servers were great and attentive. One of my favorite pizza places in Charleston!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent local pizza spot w crust worthy of its name. Had both regular and gluten-free (the gluten-free crust was good but not great) . Top quality, original toppings like the Crustacean with shrimp and chili oil. Large fresh salads. Great house Pinot Grigio at a fair price. Small cozy space w limited seating and open kitchen. Great staff.

Sara B.

Yelp
Save your money. Dry tasteless crust with few toppings. When they say no red sauce you think - olive oil, white sauce...not so. The cheese was minimal and added little flavor. Not worth it!
google avatar

Yelp
We arrived on a Sunday in October around noon. It was pretty busy but there were tables available. We opted to sit at the bar. The three people that were working the room were doing some serious multi-tasking - and doing it quite well. We enjoyed a draft IPA and a pepperoni, mushroom and olive pizza. Pretty tasty but could have used a little more toppings and cheese. The pepperoni slices were thin and huge so it's not Hormel! The pizza was just the right size for two of us. Parking can be an issue as there are several restaurants in the area.
google avatar

Chip S.

Yelp
Pizza was yummy only. The cheese pizza was good. The weed beer was just ok (tasted like a miller lite) and the "beef short rib cavatelli" was not great. Kind of felt like the most expensive meals were only recommended when I asked. However, the place had a good vibe and I did enjoy the pizza. Just beware the server recommendations if they are just all the highest price menu items.

Yelp
It was girls night and we ordered the arancini to start and then split 3 of the specialty pizzas: Margarita, Tomato goat, and the Kale yes! and much to everyone's surprise the Kale yes! was the table favorite. We all got a different wine and they did an absolute great job when someone would ask for another one and the classic point to the glass. Where the star goes missing is because it seemed like we really had to do our own bussing (put the serving dish from the appetizer on the ground to make room for the pizzas) and then when it was time to pay we had to go in and ask someone if we could pay. This was my second experience here and both times the food was really great. I don't think I've ever sat inside or even seen inside as I have sat out front both times which has been just fine! I will most definitely be back! (coming from the worst pizza snob known to the southeast)

Yelp
Crust is an awesome pizza joint, with two locations in Charleston. We've had several of their specialty pizzas and the build your own. All have been delicious, and the 12-inch leaves me wanting more when split with two people. If you're really hungry, get your own! I'm glad to have Crust in the James and Johns Island area, and consider it one of my local joints on the regular rotation. Keep in mind, the James island location is surrounded by a movie theater and several bars and restaurants, so parking can be a bitch at times.

Chris S.

Yelp
So excited to try the wood fire pizza and it did not disappoint. Hand cut fries were served hot and with a variety of dips. From the cauliflower soup to the veggie salad everything was great. Outside table area is small, but it was comfortable even in the evening chill. Restaurant was packed about 6 PM had to wait about 20 or less minutes for a table. Will be back soon!

Yelp
Delicious pizza, nice local beer selection and super friendly waitstaff. Really good choice!!!
google avatar

Victoria B.

Yelp
Consistently good pizza and salads. Crust is that casual, cozy Italian spot we all need every once in a while. Staff is cool and attentive and kitchen stays open late during the week. Wine is reasonable and prices are fair. Specials change daily and are usually super fresh and exciting.
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
This salad was incredible!!!!! I ordered the gluten free crust for the pizza - it was good, but not my favorite GF crust. The toppings were incredible though!! So if you are not gluten free and can order the regular crust I highly recommend the Bianca - adding prosciutto, arugula and honey! We sat at the bar and had quick service. The restaurant is pretty small, making it intimate and the perfect date night spot

Caroline P.

Yelp
Do not order this place for take out. The pizza was cold & burnt. (I picked up our order 15 min after I called & the lady said 25-30min, so I assume it would have been worse if I came in 15 min later). The fries were also wet & soggy, like spaghetti noodles. Wish the food would have been better, very disappointing.

KD K.

Yelp
Love, love their pizza. Perfect crust and all of the topping flavors were great. If we lived in the area this place would be our go to!
google avatar

Jess W.

Yelp
Our experience at Crust was very disappointing. The service was incredibly slow & poor -- so much so that we almost thought we were on a prank show. They were out of almost everything we ordered, they forgot to bring us water and our drinks, they checked on us maybe once when there were additional things we needed, and (worst of all) it seemed like we were burdening our waitress by getting her attention to ask for things. The space was cute, but the food wasn't good enough to make up for this poor experience. And they were out of like 4 of the drinks we ordered. I don't think I'll be back.

Steve B.

Yelp
The food was very good, and the service exceptional! Was seated immediately and waited on immediately.
google avatar

Deana C.

Yelp
My daughter loved this pizza she ate more thank have seen here eat in months! My sister had the BLT salad she liked it really well. But service was a little lax. But good food. We also had the Crustavore Pizza it was ok. Ambiance was ok.
google avatar

Amy M.

Yelp
Crust was the first pizza I tried when I moved to Charleston. The pizza is always perfectly cooked and the menu has great options. Drinks are good too!

Kevin O.

Yelp
Well at least the ketchup had some taste! This used to be our go to on Friday or Saturday night. The food tonight was just awful. Chicken Parm was tasteless and over cooked and the panini bread was stale. Service was great but the food has really gone down hill.
google avatar

Becky F.

Yelp
Cute spot (James Island location). Tiny, tiny so often there is a wait but it's worth it! Great apps, salads and pizzas.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Always my neighborhood favorite place to go. As always will definitely be back. The meatballs and salads are some of the best in town.

Susan F.

Yelp
Relaxed bar with friendly non-pushy service, currently best pizza in town, in my opinion.
google avatar

Ashton M.

Yelp
Crust is lovely! Service has consistently been good here (for a pizza place). I enjoy their butternut squash pizza. I have noticed that sometimes toppings are very scant, while other times they are plentiful. Wine prices are reasonable as well. I recently enjoyed a peach pork special pizza.
google avatar

Mallory F.

Yelp
The pizza is delish--everything tastes fresh: veggies, sauce, and cheese. I can't remember everything I got here, but I remember leaving satisfied and mentally adding it to my list of places I would like to go back to. :)
google avatar

Ann B.

Yelp
Butternut squash and add the fresh prosciutto. Absolutely divine! And so much prosciutto. It was great. Takeout was ready on time too.
google avatar

Kirstyn E.

Yelp
The hours online say it's open till 10PM, we showed up at 9PM and they were already closed. Very frustrating.
google avatar

Maria T.

Yelp
best gluten free pizza in charleston!!! 10/10 wish all their locations were still open but the food is always amazing from crust no matter what

Anne-Meadors W.

Yelp
I am very picky when it comes to pizza... and this is one of the best I've had! Delicious pizza, drinks, friendly staff, and a fun environment!
google avatar

Blake R.

Yelp
Great spot. If you're wanting incredible restaurant food in an extremely casual place, this is your spot. Love a place with actually interesting specials, and Crust is doing it right. Fresh flavors, deep flavors, homey and warm and umami flavors. Very happy with everything we got at our table - apps and pizzas and salads. Nothing wrong, everything right. Comfortable and delicious, go to Crust.
google avatar

Adriana M.

Yelp
My husband and I are big fans of Crust!! The pizza is exactly what to expect from a real Italian pizza, and the pasta is perfectly done, fresh shrimps and al dente pasta with a delicious flavor! Super recommend... I only wish the place was bigger!!
