Seasonal Flavors of Florence: What to Eat When You Visit

"Known for a daily rotating menu based on what’s available, this restaurant plays with the classic Florentine combo of fava beans and pecorino and serves savory tarts, such as a version with fava beans, ricotta and edible spring flowers like wisteria, that feel strongly tied to local culinary traditions." - Coral Sisk

Florence’s First Chef Residency: Martino di Napoli Rampolla on Food, Art, and Community

"A newer place on one of the most beautiful streets in Florence, it impresses me for sourcing vegetables from the farmers market in Piazza Tasso on Friday afternoons—organic, nice quality, and straight from the producers." - Laura Rysman

The 35 Best Restaurants in Florence, Italy | Eater

"Cucina is the work of two architects turned cooks (Simonetta Fiamminghi and Giuseppe Bartolini) who teamed up with two bookshop owners (Maddalena Fossombroni and Pietro Torrigiani) to serve vibrant, seasonal takes on traditional dishes sprinkled with global flavors. The menu impresses with fresh seafood from Sardinia and the Tuscan coast, baked Tuscan cabbage spiced with cumin and glazed with chestnut honey, lasagna with duck and apricots, paprika-sprinkled butcher sausages with sweet and sour peppered figs piled on sourdough slices, almondy cheesecake with bitter Sicilian orange, and a concise list of natural wines. Vibe check: The cozy dining space, with a Scandinavian sense of design, is tucked away in a tree-lined residential enclave far from the chaos of the city center." - Coral Sisk

"At this restaurant, local ingredients (mainly from the market) take pride of place on the daily menu which changes in accordance with whatever produce is available at the time. The rustic-style dishes are full of intense flavours, with meat and vegetables often cooked in the wood-fired oven. The pleasantly informal dining room with its many cookery books dotted here and there was designed by the owner-architects themselves." - Michelin Inspector

Perfect dining experience for our party of 8 plus a toddler and an infant. They were warm, inviting and the food was delicious. After days of heavy Tuscan food, Cucina’s dishes were a welcomed change. Everything was seasonal, light and unexpected but never pretentious. Also the dining room is beautiful with views into the kitchen. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something off the beaten path.

Interesting place. Very nicely presented restaurant and friendly staff. Relaxed atmosphere in a quiet street. This would be an ideal place to meet up with friends and share tampas-like snacks. I am only giving 3 stars as, personally, l found the portions too small - especially for sharing. Also, the price of a simple dish based on shredded white cabbage (€12) was almost the same as that for sardelle in saor (€14) - which was nice, but only four sardelle: not much to share. Just my personal opinion - the reviews show others think differently.

Best food we had in Florence! Such a beautiful cool restaurant tucked away from Florence’s hectic centre. Small menu full of unexpected combinations but that felt rooted in traditional Italian cooking. Staff were also extremely friendly and patient explaining each dish in English for us. Really delicious wine and really good value for a special meal.

Superb lunch Food was superb and the service was thoughtful - we were passing through on the way to the airport and had one of our finest lunches in Florence. The combinations were refreshing with each dish seeming to have a wonderful twist or surprise. Beautifully balanced but impactful flavours. We were a group of seven and everyone enjoyed the meal immensely. I forgot to take pictures but the empty dessert bowls tell their own story…

Beautiful, unpretentious, and delicious. Food was simple but had amazing depth and flavor. Staff were very friendly. Restaurant was busy and casual. The open kitchen is beautiful. Best meal we’ve had in Italy.

What an amazing little place in Florence.!! It is far from the madding crowds in a quiet side street and definitely visited by the tasteful, arty crowd. The decor is very tastefully done and apparently owned by two architects. We visited for lunch on a very hot day and the interior is cool and spacious. There is seating outside and if you didn't know it was there you would walk right past it. The waitress and owner were also very friendly, courteous and helpful. The food is very good and freshly prepared although don't expect pasta at lunchtime. This is not your stereotypical restaurant. I gave 5 stars as they just opened but I do feel that the lunch menu was a bit small (we only had a dish each) Maybe we got the wrong idea but you definitely need to order at least two dishes per person. There was however plenty of bread.

Someone put a lot of thought behind the design of this spot the balance of flavors in the dishes. Intimate dinning room, creative dishes and found the service to be good to.
