Cue - Review - Centrum - Amsterdam - The Infatuation

"Cue is a listening bar with wood panelling, an exotic sound system, and DJs whose vinyl collections are worth several months’ rent. But this place is worth a visit even if you don't have nuanced opinions on stylus brands. You could get the bar snacks, but it’s the drink menu where twists on classics are hit remixes and not just derivative covers: a dirty martini that uses miso and seaweed water, a margarita with a juicy balsamic shrub, and a manhattan with mezcal and raicilla, all served in the sleekest of glasses." - Paolo Española

The best evening and dinner of our one week trip of Amsterdam. Superb service, we could sit at a kitchen bar table directly infront of the chefs. We could clearly see the team energy. Very thoughtful dishes, grilled on point to perfection! compliments to the potato bread! Very friendly, professional sommelier, perfect matching wine pairing, also nice to get an Austrian wine from south styria (our home country) to start with. We will definitely come back, when we are again in Amsterdam.

Everything was perfect. We felt genuinely welcomed from the start, the food was awesome - truly memorable - yet never pretentious. The portions were perfectly judged, the wines and spirits were wonderful, and the service was impeccable throughout. A truly outstanding Michelin-star experience.

Last night a friend and I enjoyed the tasting menu followed by cocktails down in the “listening bar”. The design of the restaurant is gorgeous and the atmosphere warm and buzzy. By Michelin standards the food was ok, some interesting and surprising courses, with some very good flavours. However they lacked substance and essentially each course was little more than a bite, leaving us hungry and a tad disappointed. Especially when we had opted for the additional beef course (€35) which turned out to be barely more than carpaccio. The service was very good and attentive, although being asked to keep the cutlery between two courses is really not in keeping with fine dining. All in all, the dinner was nice but it did not justify the extremely high price. Downstairs the bar served great cocktails, but it is anything but a listening bar - it was so packed with people talking you could barely hear the music. We had a wonderful evening but there are many other restaurants in Amsterdam with better value for money.

In short: excellent food, but for this amount of money I’d recommend a place where you’re actually fed and treated with more warmth. In depth: The food at Cue is genuinely very good! Creative, well executed, and beautiful to watch being made in the open kitchen. The atmosphere and music are great. However, for a €125 menu per person, you get veeery little food and almost no bread (literally one small piece with one dish). We spent over €500 for three people and still left hungry.. we actually went to FEBO afterwards. For this price level, I find it very hard to justify. The service and attitude were inconsistent. One of the co-owners, who also handled our reservation by phone, came across as unnecessarily arrogant.. both during the call (pressuring us to decide immediately) and later in the restaurant. When I asked about the concept, the response was “why are you asking?” rather than an explanation. For a Michelin-level restaurant, curiosity should be welcomed, not questioned. Interestingly, when I asked another waiter (a Dutch guy), he gave a thoughtful and inspiring explanation of the concept and dishes.. which made the contrast in service even more noticeable. But managed to somewhat make up for the bad service.. All in all, at this price point, I’d personally choose another restaurant, if not to actually feel full after dinner, then to enjoy a more welcoming overall experience.

We accidentally wandered into the lively bar downstairs but were warmly and politely escorted to the restaurant upstairs. From the moment we arrived, the service stood out, the head chef personally came out to greet us and even guided us to our table, which immediately made the evening feel special. We chose the “Volume 1” menu with the wine pairing, and the sommelier selected four excellent wines (€45) that complemented each dish beautifully. The meal started off strong and somehow kept improving with every course. By the time we reached the main dessert, a heavenly mix of buttery croissant and silky coffee gelato, we were completely blown away. If I’m being picky, I’d have preferred the sourdough bread to come with butter instead of olive oil, but that’s just a personal taste. The ambiance was relaxed and welcoming despite the fine-dining level of food and service, making it an ideal spot for both special occasions and a more casual evening out. Highly recommended!

An absolutely outstanding dining experience. My husband raved about the wine pairing - some really unusual but perfect choices. The food was spectacular, especially the squid. A real surprise for us was the listening bar. A fantastic way to end the experience. Mocktails and non-alcoholic options were also exceptional. Couldn't recommend more highly. A flawless evening!

I don’t even know where to begin — this experience felt like an orchestra. Solo dining at the kitchen-view counter was, without question, the highlight of my Amsterdam trip. From the moment I sat down, I was mesmerized. Watching each dish come together with such precision, care, and artistry felt like being on the set of a beautifully shot film. As a big fan of The Bear, I couldn’t help but feel like I had stepped right into the show — the energy, the rhythm, and the seamless flow between the team were captivating. The entire crew’s service was impeccable — attentive without being intrusive, warm without being forced. They anticipated every need before I could ask: water refilled, plates cleared, and every course presented by a different member of the team, each describing the dish in vivid detail. The little conversations I had with them throughout the night made me feel less like a guest and more like a regular. And the food… absolutely outstanding. Every bite was balanced, every detail intentional. The atmosphere tied it all together — the music selection, the sound quality, the lighting — all perfectly tuned to the mood. After two hours of culinary bliss, I headed downstairs to the listening bar. The shift in energy was magical — a cozy, mellow space with beautifully curated hi-fi music that carried the night into a gentle, soulful ending. It was the perfect way to spend my last night in Amsterdam. I usually keep my reviews short and to the point, but this wasn’t just a dinner — it was an experience. I’ll be back the next time I’m in the city. All my love to the chefs and the crew — your dedication truly shines.

Really a gem of the Amsterdam dining scene -- at the top of the list when it comes to fine dining in a beautifully designed building with playful design touches. Approachable but sophisticated. A big shout out to the laid back but attentive service, and a brilliant wine pairing / cellar list. If you have one fine dining meal in Amsterdam, make Cue it.
