Tried the carnitas plate, and it was pretty disappointing. The meat was bland, full of untrimmed fat, and half the plate was just plain grilled onions. They barely gave any rice and beans, which feels stingy. The red salsa was solid, and the handmade tortillas were nice, but overall, it’s not worth the price. There are better options in the area and I myself would not come back to this place.

Google
Authentic Mexican food! Delicious! First time here andI was truly impressed. The establishment is located near Santee Alley a very busy not so clean area but the food made up for it! I have not had food this great since eating in my Abuelita’s kitchen. The beans were seasoned to perfection and made just like homemade. The rice was flavorful and cooked just right! The CHILE RELLENOS ARE oh wow wow wow DELICIOUS! Deseeded, breaded perfectly, and cooked to perfection with the right amount of cheese and sauce. The corn tortillas are handmade and heavenly! I am definitely looking forward to visiting their other location and will be back at the LA location as a regular. Thank you for allowing me to experience my Abuelita’s home-cooked meals once again!

Google
Man there are so many tasty places to eat, this one was excellent I had taquitos they were done just perfect the chicken was a delight to enjoy and the red spicy salsa just did the job. Also the carnitas tacos was very delicious...if you happen to be in Los Angeles at Santee we're they sell alot of stuff stop by you won't regret it.

Google
We took a drive from Vegas to try the food and we are so satisfied!! The best nopal tacos I've ever had so much flavor!!! The jalapeno taco with chorizo were bursting with flavor❤ the green enchilada was tasty n the chile relleno was yummy !! The service was friendly and the tortillas were fresh by hand 🔥🔥

Google
Despite having read the reviews I decided to give it a try. 🤢 My family & I were looking for a place to eat while we waited for a dress alterations and this was the nearest (walking distance). We arrived and got seated right away. I am a very picky eater so I went ahead and order myself tacos de asada, I was craving them so badly. When the food arrived; I looked at my tacos and I told my fiancé “I can’t eat this” the meat looked gross and it did not look like asada meat. My fiancé told me to just eat it and so I took a bite and couldn’t even swallow the food, I had to spit it out. The gentlemen came to check up on us and I told him I did not like the tacos and he apologized and said they have been having trouble with the meat (what the heck does that even mean!?) he ended up taking the food back and I did not order anything else, I was disgusted and lost my appetite. Very disappointed 😞

There’s a lot of issues with this restaurant that haven’t been addresed: 1. The menu lists plate combos that include a drink, but the waiter will tell you the opposite. She literally ignored us when we stated that the menu says that the plates we ordered include a drink (soda). Legally speaking, the menus should be updated to reflect any changes. It is deceitful for the menu to state that some plates come with a drink, when in fact they don’t. That’s illegal. 2. I ordered some green chilaquiles & it took almost an hour for them to bring them to our table. In fact, all of us got our food 45-50 min after ordering, which is insane considering that the restaurant wasn’t even close to being full or too busy. 3. The chilaquiles were so acidic and over-salted, it literally burned my tongue just like extremely salty chips do. Their QC is terrible. My mom ordered the red salsa chilaquiles and those didn’t even taste like red sauce, they tasted more like “adobo” based sauce. For a Mexican restaurant that prides itself in using the name “Cuernavaca”, a beautiful city with amazing food, it’s a shame. I’ll never go here again. I recommend eating from street vendors before eating here. I’m Mexican, I’ve tried 1000s of different Mexican food restaurants. This one is one of the worst ones!

Google
I went to have the Chile relleno but when I got there and ordered, they informed me that they did not have it. Then I ordered the carnitas, carnitas were good but the salsas were not really good and watery. We had to wait about 1/2 hr to get our food. Table fell sticky and there were flies inside the restaurant.

Frank H.

Yelp
Tried the carnitas plate here, and it was a letdown. The meat was bland and had untrimmed fat, and half the plate was just unseasoned grilled onions. The portions of rice and beans were tiny, which felt pretty stingy for the price. On the plus side, the red salsa was tasty, and the handmade tortillas were nice, but that's about it. There are better and more affordable options nearby, so I wouldn't return.

Yelp
Just go somewhere else.... The food looked delicious but the taste was average. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!!! Once your bill comes they change prices on you. I specifically took photos of the menu sign because the menu they provide once at the table do NOT have prices, super unprofessional and sketchy. I told my husband to ask why the prices on the receipt are different on the menu sign right above him. The cashier did NOT provide a clear response but stated that the price is based on taxes...? So the cashier added tax on each individual item and then added separate tax for the total, bizarre but also isn't this fraud? Please Stay Away!!

Frank L.

Yelp
SCAM Walked in and was seated. Waitress brought out menus, none of which had prices. We asked her for a menu with prices, and she said they didn't have any, the only one was the sign over the cashier. It already felt scammy, but we were hungry. We ordered one chile relleno burrito to go, with no meat. After they gave us our food, they charged us and it rang up as $16. My wife brought it to their attention and initially they said it was because of a credit card fee, so my wife said she would pay cash. They lowered the price... by $0.84. Long story short, the food here is on par with an average LA Mexican joint. That is to say, it's ok, but nothing memorable. Couple this with their scam pricing, which is a common complaint by other reviewers, and I would definitely avoid coming here.

Freddy C.

Yelp
Food was bland no salt and the service was non existent. I rather go to Taco Bell that's how bad Cuernavacas Grill is.

Keiko A.

Yelp
Heard about this spot came to try out the breakfast Chilaquiles Service was ok when we got there but our food took about 15-20 min which is ok if the food is going to be piping hot NOT!! Everything was cold the beans the rice my eggs!! Not to mention whatever oil they use to fry the eggs gave them a nasty taste! Was better off buying a hot dog from the street vendors!

Gerald V.

Yelp
Man, where do I start. Those photos you see of yummy food do not reflect taste. This time, I was drawn by the photo of Morrjarra Playe with rive, beans Ensalada y tortillas hecha a mano.... No way this was the best meal I had in a while that met expectations. Whatever you do, stop by . Was the food good, oh hell, yeah!. And the price, well worth

Natalie D.

Yelp
It was Swiftlywood as of August 1st and saw online that this place was going to have a special menu for Taylor Swift in mind. I dragged my cousins to come with me as I didn't know exactly where it was. This location is right next to the Santee Alleys. There is a car garage across the street from the restaurant where you can park your car for some payment. We unfortunately got there a little late and couldn't get a few of the drinks as they were out but the food and drinks we had were delicious. The tortillas were handmade and the meat was flavorful. I'm glad they had this event as it brought me to this location. The drinks as stated were so good that I am sad I left my drink in the table. The ambiance along with the service were great. Cute little spot you would want to try out if you have the chance.

Daniela M.

Yelp
Ordered chili rellenos and they gave me jalapeño poppers these peppers were the size of a jalapeno it barely had cheese and more of the egg if they know these peppers are not proper to sell at $18 then they need to get a better provider . Not is it over price but the quality and serving is so disappointing.tried giving this restaurant another chance but so disappointed again never will I go back please save your money and go else where for better quality.

Alfonso V.

Yelp
The food is off the charts.!! The service has always been courteous to us when we've shown up. And it's spacious enough where you enjoy your food in peace. Highly recommend this place!!

John D.

Yelp
Parking is a nightmare here! There are men whistling for you to go into "public" parking lots that show $3 signs and then you'll get in, and another person tosses a ticket in your car and says $20! We turned around and he seemed irate. We had to park far in order to find a somewhat safe spot (we had a lot of outlet shopping bags in the vehicle). Upon walking into the place, your met with hardworking people. They're nonstop busy abut friendly and attentive. The restaurant is worn down and the floors and grout are definitely in need of a makeover. Weather was hot and there is no AC in here. Lots of fans though. Food was large in portions and well worth the price. I ordered the chile relleno plate. HOME MADE TORTILLAS! That was a very nice surprise. I didn't care for the tomato sauce the chile was smothered in (tasted canned... the broth used to make rice also tasted canned) beans were good. The chips and salsa were not very good. Salsa didn't seem home made and chips were not fresh. It would be nice if they made their own chips and salsa. The actual salsa for every thing else was good (they have a red and a green) coleslaw in squirt bottles .. The aguas Fresca looked like it had been sitting out for some time. Ice had melted already. We also ordered the chilaquiles divorciados and that was real good also. I would recommend take out to avoid the traffic and parking situation.

Vanessa I.

Yelp
I came here from outta town as it was recommended to me. The food is ok. It lacked flavor. If you sit inside, it is extremely hot in there as there is no air conditioning. The service was ok as well. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Yesenia N.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast thinking we were going to have a bomb Mexican breakfast from some reviews we seen on IG but it was a total disappointment. The rice taste like if it was from a few days old, beans tasted like canned beans and the chilaquiles sauce was not good at all (green or red). My over easy eggs and Jamaica drink was good . ..... Wouldn't recommend this place.

Flor B.

Yelp
I called to order and it was apparently one of the delivery guys. Number 1 super rude. Can't even take simple instructions on delivery. Once I received food I realized the prices were higher which I totally understand but even with the prices I got on the phone it still didn't match. When I brought this up when I called back now the person that Answered said it was one of the delivery guy that took your order. So it's my fault your worker doesn't know the prices. We will stop buying from this restaurant.

Leo R.

Yelp
The food is delicious every item was amazing. Very good service and friendly made you feel comfortable. The restaurant was very interesting and inviting.

Jessica O.

Yelp
I really enjoy having leaving the office to have a nice lunch while walking around downtown Los Angeles. The staff has always been friendly, the restaurant is clean and spacious. I would recommend this place if you're in town and want a comfortable place to stop and have some lunch. The food is delicious as well.

Minnie C.

Yelp
Had to wait forever for the food to come & when it came the food was subpar or worse. The waitress was super rude and had an attitude when we asked what kind of drinks they had. I would never come here again this place was a waste of my time and money plus to top it off it gave me a really bad stomachache. Not worth the hassle. Would give it 0 stars if I could.

Krystal C.

Yelp
Waited 1hour plus for our food to be salty and not even edible. Was really disappointed at how IG really made seem like it was the best Mexican food out there. When my family and I got there the host seemed overwhelmed and unorganized. Service was horrible: didn't have napkins at the table, we had to ask for forks for our food then the waitress had attitude and seemed very understaffed. I got the chilaquiles with carne and it was too salty (we returned them) and my family got the chile rellenos (THE REASON WHY WE CAME) and they were tiny and the cheese wasn't even melted for a total of $95!! Super DISAPPOINTING and the FOOD WAS WAY OVERPRICED FOR THE "QUALITY" THEY ADVERTISE. Don't even waste your time coming to this place. NEVER AGAIN.

Maria M.

Yelp
I went to this place based off a foodie influencer on instagram. I really wanted to like this place but the green chilaquiles are a disappointment. The tomatillo in the green salsa is overpowering and ruins the flavor. The only thing I ate off of the plate were the eggs. The green salsa needs new recipe.

Gaby L.

Yelp
This place is high on advertisements by IG. And I have to say out of 10 I give it a decent 4. Ambiance wise, the place is nice and clean. Spacious, too. Lots of room to walk on. The services was good. Dencently and the waitress was really friendly. However, maybe because it's short on staff, she looked hassled and busy. However, she managed to attend us well. Food wise... I would have to say its bearable. Not as great as I thought it would. On IG the food looks super delicious, but when you taste it, it feels like it is missing some ingredients or seasoning. Again, the food is not bad, but it can be a bit better. Food came on a decent time, and it wasn't cold.

Claudia V.

Yelp
Traveling always makes it fun to find new places. I found this restaurant in the middle of LA downtown. Its very much the authentic mexican food. The services is fantastic and the place is super clean. Not to mention the food super tasty and well portioned.

Gina L.

Yelp
Order chile relleno plate, $16, they didnt give me my "free" soda . They weren't busy at the time i went, so clearly being busy wasnt the reason they didnt give me my soda

Zaida L.

Yelp
From all the advertising I saw on instagram, I was excited to try it. We were a party of 5 and all our food came at different times. We were there for probably 2 hrs because it took long for all the food to come out. When we asked the waitress about certain foods, she did not have answers. The area had multiple flies. Food was pricey and had no flavor We were all very disappointed

Brenda F.

Yelp
The service is horrible. Waited 45 minutes for our food, it was cold, not the greatest food. Don't waste your time. There's so many better places in DTLA than this place. Definitely try something else. Not worth the wait

Gloria R.

Yelp
The service is the worst the waiters are rude and act like they are going to pay for your food. The food was ok but NOT worth it

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
Que Rico! Delicious food, great service. We had the Chile relleno burrito, taquitos and the lemon cucumber aqua fresca.

Lilia M.

Yelp
Food and Service HORRIBLE!!!! Server threw me off the most . Horrible service!!! Food took over 40 + minutes to come out and on top of that forgot what we ordered and still came out wrong. Food was definitely not what we expected. Chilaquiles were Nasty! This place is definitely over hyped on tik tok.

Rob C.

Yelp
This is a fantastic hidden gem over here in downtown Los Angeles. I walked in one day, saw that this was a very popular item they had on their menu and the rest is history. This Burrito is absolutely stuffed! I barely was able to finish it and I had to take the Molcajete home for later. No wonder why it's for two people. Actually three people could eat off of this that's how much they loaded up. Parking is a little tricky over here you're just gonna have to park in the lot and walk over. It's literally next to the Santee Alley so there's so much foot traffic around. If you're going to the fashion District and are going to make a day out of visiting, I would definitely pass by here for lunch

lena l.

Yelp
This is one of my current favorite authentic Mexican lunch spots. This hidden gem is located in the fashion district/near the santee alley area. We made a stop here right before our fashion, flower district day. Their signature dish is the Chile Relleno Burrito....I've never had a burrito quite like this. All that cheese and the flavorful sauce went together so well. Portion is huge; can probably feed 2 people. I kept eyeing on their MOLCAJETE and I'm so glad we ordered this as well because it was mind blowing good. It comes with chicken, steak, (so so juicy and tender) chorizo (the best chorizo ive ever had and i dont normally like it...) shrimp, bacon wrapped shrimp WOW just wow. It comes with some flour tortilla, rice, and beans. You'll be stuffed with happy bellies for sure after your visit!!

Lupita O.

Yelp
Customer service was bad, brought us our drinks fast but they took almost an hour to give us our food . Employees looked confused. Restaurant was not be busy for it to say that we had to wait a long time . Chilaquiles were not chiquilles they were hard chips with tapatío on top . Green chilaquiles was very sour and it was the same salsa as the one in the table for the chips Hopefully your service gets better

Jacqueline M.

Yelp
This place is great! Their chili rellenos were fresh! Huge too! Plate comes with two and beans and rice. All delish! Agua de Pina is what I had to drink and it was good too! Come check them out!Chile Relleno

Gary W.

Yelp
I have seen this restaurant advertised by their daughter on Instagram and really wanted to try it. First off not in the safest part of town. Parking is horrible and the parking garages will try and scam you big time. The place was busy and we did get seated right away. If you go there to cool off forget it. It was so hot in there we could not fully enjoy our food. The waitress spoke zero English so trying to tell her what we wanted to drink was impossible. We ordered the chile rellenos and have to say they were huge and not to bad. The beans had zero flavor and same with the rice. I had better that's for sure. The people were very nice and will say a good mix of people there and not just spanish. It's to far for me to go back since the food was average. I really was excited coming her but was disappointed.

Aaron S.

Yelp
Yes this place is great with good homemade tasting food and will be back soon I hope. Looking at the comments I seen a negative review from a lady Jas B she gave a bad review and then made a comment about the homeless like she is too good to be around them, she then posts a review on her page about a school not treating her disabled child right? What a hypocrite.

Ruby V.

Yelp
This place has terrible service! We wanted to try this place because of their chille rellenos that are posted on their IG page. We walked in at noon and waited a while to be serviced. When we were ready to order the cook came out to take our order (because they didn't even have a waitress/waiter) to help us. When we were going to order they told us they didn't have Chile rellenos and that it would take approximately (2hrs) to make them. No le recomiendo este lugar el servicio es terrible y no tienen chile rellenos.

C M.

Yelp
Beyond pleasant experience. All male servers that make every single customer feel welcome. Menudo and Posole not on the menu but served on the weekends until they run out. Everything is fresh and plenty on the plate. It's a small area but everyone seems comfortable.

Musa M.

Yelp
Great food and quick service. Given the location is within the Fashion District, expect some traffic and stress finding a parking spot. This place is a great mom&pop shop hidden within the congested sidewalks of mannequins and clothes. One of my favorite details of a Mexican restaurant is how well their rice and beans taste. Hand down amazing rice&beans! If you're strolling through the fashion district, I highly recommend giving this place a try.

Jackie O.

Yelp
I'm giving it a 3 and only because their customer service was really bad this second time I came in. The girl that took our order was very rude form the beginning. She would roll her eyes every time we said something and she had a confused look when she was taking our order for drinks. Very disappointed.

Brenda H.

Yelp
Super disappointing, we arrived so hungry and ready to love the food. Coming from San Diego, I'm used to the best Taco Shops and Mexican food, but I thought LA was supposed to be with it too?! You'd think beans and rice are basic, but the rice was hard and beans were watery- neither had flavor. My friend really liked her Chile Relleno but my tacos were bland. Service and everything else was disappointing overall too. I will say the jamaica and agua de pipino were good, comparable to how they are basically anywhere.

Enrique M.

Yelp
The cashier was really rude , I thought it was because I am a little darker than average , but as soon as I started speaking Spanish to her she got mad. Only the young server was really nice to me , I don't know his name so thank him for me ,, sadly I won't be coming back , food was good 7/10 .

Diana T.

Yelp
Once or twice a week we get the salad and the vegetables are so fresh, we recommend the food at this place

Marisol N.

Yelp
Food tastes homemade, and I'd be a loyal customer except that they've messed up my delivery orders a number of times already. I'd recommend walking in, if anything. After the 4th mistake, I felt like I should write a review about whoever's answering the phone. By the way, I'm still waiting for them to pick up my last order.

Jas B.

Yelp
This place was trash , the girl at the cashier register was so rude and the little restaurant is more of a take out spot since it's so tiny , lots of homeless in the area too. Definitely will never recommend or be coming back

Liliana B.

Yelp
I called to see what time they would close. Whoever answer the phone it was a girl. Was so rude asked her for the time and she said before 4pm it's only 3:16 and then she said "why" in the rudest way. Like what do you mean why? Would I be calling to see what time you close to pick up trash? Customer service needs to be improved.

Iveth C.

Yelp
Found them on Instagram, best hidden gem! If you want a better look at their menu and Specials look on social media!

Mary P.

Yelp
So happy we gave this place a try. Came to check out the Santee Alley. Passed by this place and it smelled amazing inside. We decided to have breakfast here and OMG! BEST CHILAQUILES EVER!! I can't wait to go back to this place when we visit Los Angeles again. Will be back for sure every time. Place is clean & server was a sweetheart.

Marcel I.

Yelp
No-frills place, just delicious tacos! The Carnitas stood out. The service was great too. The guy was patient with us, a party of six with half being late arrivals, and gave us ample time to look through the menu. However, the cashier gave me my friend's receipt, which wasn't a big deal since we ordered the same thing, but I just hope they're more mindful of that in the future.

Mai W.

Yelp
I first ordered from this restaurant a few months ago. I ordered a couple of tacos through grub hub for pick up. I arrived 15 minutes later to find out they never made my order because they didn't have the meat for the tacos I ordered. No big deal, canceled my order and went elsewhere. I decided to give them another try since I was in the area again. My friend and I dined in this time expecting fresh food. Our waitress came to take the order, brought us our food, and never came back. We ordered Carne Asada Sopes, an Aztec taco, and a Chile Relleno. The Sopes were crunchy, but the meat was not Carne asada, it was old ground beef with no flavor. The Aztec taco was good, and the Chile Relleno was horrible. The Chile Relleno was soggy, not crispy at all, and it was drenched in regular tomato sauce, no flavor at all. I took two bites and threw it away. I was highly disappointed, food was not good and was pricey. I will not be eating there again. Go elsewhere for authentic Mexican food.

Charles M.

Yelp
We were in the garment district and decided to stop for lunch. After asking a street cleaner for a recommendation we found this small mostly take-out Mexican restaurant. Donna ordered a Hawaiian torta and I had the beef steak Ranchero plate. Donna really liked her sandwich. My plate was good but lacking for the price. The employees were all very friendly and the store was clean.

David B.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place because I was having clothes tailored next door at Lupita's. Smelled great so I gave it a try. Food here was excellent and authentic. Hand-made corn tortillas from scratch, as most everything here is. Family-run. You get a sense they take pride in their cooking. I'll be back.

Imani G.

Yelp
Ordered this through my work sharebite last week. I literally went through my emails to find the name of this place! Delicious food! Best food I've had while living downtown (2 years). Consider me a customer for life! Keep up the good work y'all!
