"This indie coffeehouse is arguably best known for its empanadas — mainstays at owners Carmen Aguilar and Claudia Quiñonez’s respective households while growing up — but fans also rave about its indulgent crepes. Sweet varieties include banana or strawberry with Nutella, or customers can opt for a savory crepe stuffed with turkey, pesto, and mozzarella." - Naomi Waxman, Ashok Selvam

I was waiting for the bus home and decided to explore the area. Decided to stop in for coffee and I’m so glad I did. I met Jocelyn, who was so warm and inviting. She welcomed me in and recommended menu items in a way that was helpful but not overwhelming. I went with the Horchata latte and the vegan chorizo burrito and they did not disappoint. The space was so cute and colorful as well. I’ll have to dine in next time. Thank you!

We were in the area and stopped in for coffee and something quick to eat. We all loved it. Kids had the crepes but were torn with the açaí bowl option. Husband and I were pleasantly surprised with the plant based empanada options, and the coffee was amazing. Lattes served in proper mugs, not paper cups. Will definitely be back.

Google
Nice little hidden gem. We discovered Cultura cafe on our morning walk and love the humble setup. Claudia is very friendly and she made our horchata latte not too sweet with just the right temperature. We tried the chicken Tinga empanada that was delicious; and good as any other similar restaurants in the area for a cheaper price. We will come again to try the crepes!

Google
An adorable hidden gem. A family run, friendly, and upbeat cafe with none of the pretentious trappings so common with other places. The food is always remarkable and the beverages are well crafted. Try the crepes, acai bowl, or the homemade Guatemalan empanadas. The Biscoff latte is out of this world...well everything is here, especially the mother/daughter team running this special spot. This place is run with a passion and it shows.

Google

Google
Amazing cafe. I’m surprised it’s not as well known as some other places around the area. Every item we tried was amazing including the Nutella crepes, the biscoff latte, and the horchata pumpkin latte. Not too busy either and the service is sooooo friendly. This will definitely be our new go to!

Google
AMAZING empanadas - made to perfection. The latte was also a PERFECT balance of espresso and milk. As a top 10% coffee reviewer, I am so thankful, impressed, and can’t wait to come back. Kind and knowledgeable owner made the atmosphere laid back and welcoming 🙂

Google
A true neighborhood gem!! Wonderful friendly service and delish fun flavors that can't be beat. Everything I've tried from Cultura has been so satisfying and tasty from the seasonal lattes to the staple horchata latte there isn't a bad choice! The empanadas have a beautiful flaky dough that's addicting. The croissant cinnamon roll was one of the best things I've ever eaten. I highly recommend treating yourself here it's totally worth it!

Yelp
I love this spot! Their empanadas and coffees are delicious and it's really cute inside. It's a nice place to work or study, and the owner and staff are always really sweet too. Great neighborhood spot!

Yelp
PSA: they use a powder for the horchata. We ordered an iced horchata latte, horchata chai, a nutella crepe, and some pastries. Our order took over 15 minutes for everything, including the coffees and pastries. I'm not entirely sure why the wait was so long for the coffee and pastries because there was no one in line ahead of us. In fact, while we were there, there was someone who came to pick up an order and was told it would be another 7-8 minutes before it was ready. That said, between the wait time and the powdered horchata, we won't be returning. Although the pastries were not bad, there's a Cafe Tola nearby that has a lot more empanada selections and a bomb horchata latte!

Yelp
Cultura Ccafe is an all time favorite of ours. My partner, little puppy, and I have been coming since nearly their opening date and always make our way down when in town. The owner is super genuine and the staff is always friendly. The coffee has amazing flavor and food offerings are unique and diverse. Definitely pick up an Horchata latte if you can!

Yelp
About a 2-2.5: Cultura Ccafe is a cafe located in the Avondale 'hood, offering coffee, espresso, tea, tea lattes, frappes, smoothies, breakfast burritos, crepes, waffles, acai bowls, paninis, and various baked items. We came here in the morning, and ordered: +the Horchata Latte - prepared with 2 espresso shots, horchata, and milk of choice; this could have had more of a stronger horchata taste +Biscoff Latte - prepared with Biscoff spread, 2 shots of espresso, and steamed milk; served with a Biscoff cookie; the cookie was a nice treat, but the latte was a bit weak a Strawberry Nutella crepe +a Black Bean Breakfast Burrito - filled with black beans, eggs, cheese, potatoes, and green chile +a Turkey Panini - turkey, mozzarella, pesto, tomatoes, spinach, and sriracha mayo in between a rustic-like bread +Beef and Potato empanadas - lots of crust and not much of a filling +Poblano Pepper and Cheese empanadas - lot of crust and not much of a filling The cafe itself is small and cozy with a handful of seating; staff were friendly. Plenty of street parking available in the area. +weak drinks +avoid the empanadas +friendly service +ample street parking available

Yelp
A quick grab and go for some Empanadas. I had the beef potato, which was delicious. It is a small quaint little shop run by a kind family. I would want to come back to try their coffee one day.

Yelp
Fantastic coffee shop I wish I'd found sooner! I must have passed it a million times without noticing--small signage and a busy area make it easy to miss. But once inside, I was blown away. The chicken Tinga and poblano cheese empanadas were fresh and flavorful, perfectly paired with the horchata and Nutella lattes. Friendly, attentive service made the experience even better. It's a new favorite, and we will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

David W.

Yelp
Coffee was good and was excited to try the empanadas but they unfortunately left a lot to be desired. Way too much crust with hardly any filling. I'd stop back in for a cup of coffee but that's about it.

Yelp
Not recommended if you like accuracy and short wait times. I've been here 5 or 6 times during my lunch breaks and every time I've been late getting back to work due to the slow service. A couple of weeks ago someone who arrived after me was served before me. I've been coming back because I liked the crepes. I've had the same order every time but once that I've been there. I skipped it last Saturday because the place was full and I knew getting my order would take a really long time so I went to Dark Matter nearby. Today no one was in there and they had to remake my order. I recognize that that was nice of them but I'm sure I got charged a bit extra for the strawberries I didn't want. I stated chocolate Nutella with banana. I get that there was someone new but like I was the only person there. Perhaps you can teach your new person to ask specifically which toppings as I had been asked in the past. You need a faster system. I had finished my coffee by the time I got my crepe. Ugh. I'll stick to Dark Matter or Starbucks for my coffee and La Creperie for my crepes. I see now other reviews note the long wait times, I'll be checking out Cafe Tola too.

Ellis C.

Yelp
I have had coffee around the world, but the Hopichata latte is delicious and one of my favorites. Try one of their mushroom and cheese empanadas too.

Anna R.

Yelp
Came here after church after seeing the reviews on Yelp. So glad I did. I had a beautifully prepared mocha that was so tasty. Initially I just wanted coffee but their crepe menu was so enticing that I broke down and had the strawberry Nutella crepe as well. It was just the right amount of sweetness and complimentary chocolate wrapped in a very fresh crepe that had me experiencing heaven in my mouth! The hostesses were ever so kind and also gave me an opportunity to practice my self-taught Spanish. The inside decor is pleasant cafe style that is bright and inviting. The prices very reasonable for a Chicago eatery. Definitely a place to return to. The crepe I had was super good.

Cinthya R.

Yelp
This place was so authentic! We loved everything we ordered! Empanadas 10/10 Coffee 10/10 Smoothies 10/10

Jane C.

Yelp
The coffee is amazing and the owner is so kind! She wrote up instructions for how to heat up my empanadas. The cafe is cozy and clean with lots of space to work!!

Claudia T.

Yelp
Came to this new Cafe and I absolutely love it! They have free wifi, great service and the food and drinks are delicious . All the food is freshly handmaid every day. I ordered a banana Nutella crepe with a banana strawberry smoothie and loved it. Definitely will come back again and recommend it.

Talaya J.

Yelp
Great little Cafe. Chill atmosphere, a great cup of chai tea latte with oat milk. I got the waffle with strawberries, whipped cream, and chocolate syrup this time but I look forward to coming back and trying the crepes. Pleasant world music playing at a comfortable level in the background.

Ashley L.

Yelp
Avondale can always use new independent coffee shops to counteract all of the Dunkins, so I'm glad cafe cultura is here. I specially love coffee shops that are Latino owned, because you know you're about to get some yummy cafe con leche & empanadas you can't find elsewhere. I'll be back!

Sachi H.

Yelp
I walked in on opening day and everyone was so friendly!! It's gloomy today but I needed a coffee to wake me up- as soon as I walked in, it's so bright and completely changed my day. Their coffee is authentic, and their empanadas are mouth watering. Next time I come i want to try the crepes or waffles. SO happy I have a new neighborhood coffee shop

Jocelyn T.

Yelp
Went to the soft opening of this cute coffee shop and omg! I found my new "work from home" spot. Their iced coffee is really good and they offer plant based milk options and sugar free syrups - big winner in my book. The strawberry Nutella crepe is so good, perfect balance of Nutella and strawberries. Can't wait to work from here this summer!

Sheila F.

Yelp
I'm always looking for a comfy cafe where I can find good food, teas, and set up my laptop to work. This was a perfect spot.

Edwin G.

Yelp
This was a very wonderful place for coffee and breakfast! The area is very calm and there's many spots for free parking. The environment inside was very welcoming and beautifully decorated. This is by far one of the best women owned business I have been to! They made us a custom Horchata Latte/Frappe drink that I would highly recommend asking for. Their empanadas were phenomenal! Everyone was so kind and welcoming it felt like I was eating breakfast with family members. Thank you so much for making this a great experience!

Yelp
I never leave a review but this place is special. Came here and ordered the chicken tinga empanada and would definitely be ordering it again. I'm always looking for a good Cafe spot with access to wifi where I can work and still be able to get some food.

Sophia K.

Yelp
It was great! We tried all the savory empanadas. The empanada is only $4.50 each and was delicious and filling. The crust is perfect. No film in mouth afterwards. Clean. The empanadas are easy to reheat in oven. They're all good. The chicken tigga is my favorite though, a little spicy. The potato ones are great cus the potato is diced so small. Same size as ground beef and chorizo. Totally great value. And their horchata frappe has no coffee in it. Perfect for the kiddos who love horchata. Ours liked it. Great value! We got one guava and cheese to go. It was good but too sweet for me. I had a bite. The cheese is like cream cheese. To be fair I'm not a sweets person so much. The service is great and comfy to eat in too. My son and I dined in and after trying the empanada I took a bunch to go to share with the rest of my family. My son got the waffle and no complaints there.

Tori C.

Yelp
I was walking by and found this gem. They have all the coffee drinks, plus an horchata latte and other unique specialties. They have almond milk as well! It seems they serve mostly crepes and empanadas, but they were delicious. The interior was super clean with great decor. A great local spot!

Caroline C.

Yelp
Wow! The best horchata and guava + cheese empanada I've had! Plus the service is so warm and quick. You must give this cafe a try

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Please do yourself a favor and try the chicken tinga empanadas!! Order two or maybe 3.. 1 is not enough. They're amazing! My boyfriend and I also tried the banana and Nutella crêpe and a banana strawberry waffle and I was very impressed! Over all great food & amazing staff. I'm definitely coming back and recommending to all my friends.

Keren Z.

Yelp
Awesome horchata late with a touch of coffee. The empanadas were delicious, and the strawberry Nutella crepe was amazing. For sure we will come back soon!

Yelp
Super delicious and great for a quick bite! There are so many savory and sweet options. My favorite thing was the beef and potato empanada. I also tried the green tea match, it was delish. There are non-dairy alternatives like oat and almond milk as well which I really appreciate.

Natali R.
