Cumaica Coffee: Sunny Spot in the Mission Finding parking on Mission Street can be a challenge, but if you find a spot near Cumaica, and want a coffee, it's not bad. The coffee itself was decent, and while a bit pricey, that seems to be the norm these days. What was nice for me, though, was the sunny back patio. It's a nice spot to relax with a cup and enjoy the San Francisco weather. Overall, a decent coffee option in the Mission, especially if you're looking for outdoor seating.

This Nicaraguan coffee shop was definitely worth the stop! Staff was extremely friendly and willing to help me find the perfect drink. Service was quick and my Iced Chai Tea was as Absolutely DELICIOUS!

Good prices, has everything I expect out of a coffee shop

I often stop here on my way to work and they are always so quick and efficient! I'm often waiting for the bus when I stop in and I'm almost always able to order and recieve my coffee in less than 5 minutes, which is doubly impressive because I'm annoying and always have add-ons or alterations. Their breakfast burritos are super tasty and come in a variety of options. I also love the local handmade cards they have for sale, and the mini free library. The outdoor seating is nice and spacious as well. The baristas have always been super sweet towards me and I can see they have good relationships with a lot of their customers. I often see the same regulars there so they must be doing something right!

Really flavorful and strong Cumaica Blend, great ambiance, friendly people!

Really love their chai frappe, I've never seen a coffee place do that before! Their pastries are tasty as well, and I like their lox bagel sandwich. The employees are friendly but the service is a little so-so at times (feels awkward to give your order to the cashier then repeat it to whoever is actually running the coffee stations). But I still recommend the place. There's a really nice outdoor patio in the back too!

The inside is a dimly lit, quiet atmosphere, with plenty of room and even a cute little book exchange reading area♥️They also have a back porch seating area which is always open. *Street parking only* The staff: two ladies were so sweet and very accommodating in terms of helping that one indecisive customer with too many questions like me lol.

I came here after a morning stroll to take a break from my normal coffee at home. I went through the reviews and there's a lot of good, and some not so good. The beauty about Yelp is you'd get to figure it out yourself too :) There was a bit of a line when I came here, which is always positive. If you look at the reviews, you can tell that this place has been around for a long time. Thats always an indicator that they're doing something right. The entry way has lots of tables and chairs and glass display cases of pastries and breads you can purchase. It's a good vibe. It reminds me of diedrichs coffee, if anyone can remember that place I went with the house coffee; Cumaica blend which was $3.25 for a large. Taste definitely surpassed Starbucks.

THe service and attention is amazing here. The young ladies in the sandwich, coffeemaking and counter are super friendly, helpful and nice. the sandwiches are very good, fresh. i got a salmon/cream cheese bagel that was hearty and fresh. Coffee is good and strong and tasty. This place is clean and lots of sitting spaces and an outdoor small seating area as well. Nicaraguan family owns it, and the staff plays great music (salsa and more)

Warm and cozy coffee shop right in Mission Street and close to Ocean and Excelsior Avenues. Family owned business. - Coffee and Pastries. Very good selection. They have sandwiches and such available, as well. You will find what you want here. - Customer Service. Very friendly. They took the time to know their customers. They are very pleasant and would go above and beyond to provide the best service. - Location. Located at a very busy neighborhood, parking is very limited - isolated to street parking and one of the many smaller parking spots in and around the neighborhood. Best to walk or take the Muni. - Others. They have a book section where you can donate and get free books. Support local businesses especially these in our neighborhoods. This is a very good coffee shop that we go to and support. Relax, enjoy, and take a sip!

Yelpers like YUCKENIA are the reason why we can't have nice things! As a regular who has been coming here as a teenager and is now almost 25 years old, I've learned to appreciate this store's little quirks, the decor, the quality of life changes, the different personalities from all the employees. Sure, they have their moments, but who hasn't worked a 9 to 5? Yeah, I see you Yuckenia... Anyway, love this place and will continue to blow my cash on their delicious, overpriced coffee! xoxo

Kind staff and nice vibes! Definitely a cozy coffee shop. I got a Mexican mocha and it was sooo good! It was rich in cinnamon and chocolate. They also have a nice back patio!

With a ton of coffee spots and eateries in my area all along Mission, sometimes it is overwhelming where to go to get a good quick breakfast and coffee all in one spot. I have been going to Cumaica since highschool (2008-2012, damn I'm getting old....ishh lol). Here they have a really good selection of coffee drinks and sizes, one of my favorites being the Mexican mocha iced. Along with the mex. mocha, I like to get the breakfast sandwich on the Jalapeno bagel that they have. The sandwich is made fresh right in front of you with egg, bacon (or a couple other meat options as well as no meat if you would like), tomato and lettuce. They have some really good yogurt parfaits with fresh fruit in it which I absolutely love. Tons of other goodies and baked goodies can be found and tried here. The service here gives you a home feeling and feels like family is serving you. So conclusion, if you're looking for a good all around coffee spot/cafe to go to in this area check out Cumaica.

Came early on Mother's Day. Coffee was good. Service not so much. The ladies working there kept screaming to communicate with each other. They got my bagel order wrong. At one point they wanted to get the attention of a customer to ask about his order but this man was on his phone and didn't hear them, one of the ladies said that he was probably watching porn!!! Not a appropriate comment! Don't think I will be coming back.

Good local coffee shop! Quick service, fine coffee drinks and good bagels as well! Plenty of seating usually is available, and they have a huge outdoor patio in the back as well! Nice friendly spot for a quick cup of coffee or sitting on the patio.

I asked nicely if I can, get a different drink since the first one was watery and didn't look like a Caramel machiatto frappe. The lady in the register attitude, I was like well if you can't get me something else just throw it away and keep the money, and she was like OK and she threw it out. I was going to have my husband drink it, but she had already threw it out. So they made me a New one, this one was actually a frappe. On the way out the lady at the register was either getting a break or getting off of work. We exchange words, and she was like well it's not my business anyways so if you want to put a complaint just do it. She was very rude, I would just say terrible customer service!

Big fan and supporter of local business but have to be honest that most of the times the employees here are not as professional. I've visited this place almost 4x per month and would go more but I just get turned off more everytime. Today was another notch of the list of not to continue. I havnt visted since March and hope all has been well with them during the pandemic. I decided to give them a try today. Strike #1 - As I approached their business, two of their employees were scrubbing their side walk with warm water and Clorox. To my surprise I thought what a great way to ensure cleanliness however regular people walking the street had to stop and their customers had to halt at their door exit until they were completely finished. Yes they have a job to do but at one point there was 12 people who were socially gathered. I'm thinking why not just let a few pass and continue? Strike #2 - After their employees finished cleaning their sidewalk I was able to step inside. Chairs and tables were no longer available but at least their patio was open. What I love about this place is their unique flavors. They introduced me to tuxedo mocha (black and white). As I placed my order, the lady gave me a strange WTF look and said, "white"? I politely corrected her and repeated my order. Again she looks lost and goes to her four other colleagues for help. They dont know either but one of them said "si". When I received my order, the lady shouts "white mocha!" smh MF Strike #3 - As I was waiting for my drink, I watched the two women from the outside come back in and put away the mop, bucket and clorox. They go to the side room and immediately (less than 3secs) go back to the work counter, talk to the customers in line and take their orders. WTF - NONE of them WASHED THEIR HANDS! Bagels, utility knife, coffee cups, lids, misc utensils and their toaster oven handle were touched by these two employees! Strike #4 - no designated area to separate customers 6ft apart. I watched as 6 individuals came into the shop, all acting like life is back to normal and all huddled together as they were awaiting a store to open for black friday. So if your in the neighborhood and feeling risky to catch COVID19 or food poisoning, CUMICA Excelsior is the place to visit! With the recent spike of COVID cases in SF, you bet I will spread the word to help others LIVE. I'll do my part to STOP the spread, ALL business incl small should do theirs! Dear Cumaica owners and managers, You are a local small business and I have always wanted you to succeed, after all you're right in front of a Peet's, but man you make it really hard to like you! As you enter, it is not clear where people should stand in line to order, is it by the counter? by the table? This confusion leads to awkward and unpleasant interactions between customers. After a couple of times of being yelled at for being in the wrong line, I decided to give some helpful suggestions to the staff. My advice was ignored as the ordering line situation is still a mess. Today was not good. I came in and there was no one at the register, only one person behind the counter making bagels. I understand and accept that there is a staffing shortage across the US and it's specially bad in pricey SF, so I patiently waited in line for someone to come out and take orders. After 5 minutes, and as the line behind me got longer with angry customers, I saw one of your staff come out of the bathroom. She gave us a look and she immediately ducked into the office. I thought she was going to sound the alarm about the deteriorating situation outside but nope, she never came out again. The only employee behind the counter kept her head buried in her bagels, no acknowledgment, nothing. After a few more minutes of being ignored I finally asked her if anyone was coming out to take orders. She gave me a sad look and said that she was the only one working because her co-worker was 'taking a break'. I decided to take my business elsewhere, many others left too. Dear Cumaica, the corporate coffee shop across the street does not need more business, YOU DO, here's a couple of suggestions: - Make it clear to customers who are ordering where to stand in line, tell the bewildered herd where to go! Floor stickers/arrows work wonders. - Train your employees, ALL of them, to not be terrified of speaking to customers. Have a situation? staffing shortage? Say something! A simple 'Hi we'll be right with you' is all that's needed. You'll be surprised how accepting customers can be when you communicate and acknowledge them. Good luck

I ordered an ice Mexican chocolate coffee and it was too sweet. And I also ordered a caramel oat latte and they didn't fill up my cup also forgot to put caramel. When they finish making my coffee they didn't call my name because they were so busy catering to the person behind who a regular and made sure she gets what they need. The coffee and Service is terrible.

Best coffee shop in the Excelsior there are three coffee shops within walking distance but if you go to a Cumaica, I think you'll be satisfied. Good luck.

went into this place since hk bakery across the street had their apple pay down. ordered medium coffee and corrisant. asked if i wanted sugar and cream and i said yes. when she hands me my coffee she put it on the counter. for some reason she didnt secure the lid so when i grabbed it, it spilled on my hand and the counter. burend the sh*t outta my hand. dont understand why you would just place the coffee lid on the cup and not secure it, especially since they put the sugar and cream in. all i got was an apology and they pured the coffee into a new cup. didnt offer a new cup of coffe or even to refill what was spilled! so instead of a medium i got a small and half coffee. rather support big business than this place, no cusotmer service what so ever

This is my go to spot when I'm in the area getting my car worked on. The service here is always exceptional. The ladies who work here are so nice and the food is always perfectly prepared. The bagels are sooo fresh you can smell the delicious aroma has you walk inside. Coffee is a must have to get your day started off right. Love the overall vibe of this place never a bad experience...

Rumor has it that Cumaica is a chain from Martha Bros! They quietly changed the name so that "San Fran" locals wouldn't think it's a chain. True? Regardless, regulars walk in anyway thinking it's the old Martha Bros until they hold their togo cup and realize! Must be the expired whiskey from the night before!! This place is huge though. There was even a large sofa to plop your stuff with free wifi. They have a couple of tables outside so you can people watch to your heart's desire! I'll try to see how my dogs will like it the next time I'm around. Service here was standard. My cappuccino was nice and strong, though; I wished they could make "FLAT COFFEE!" Something, that is extremely hard to find anywhere since most Americans have been "spoiled" with Starbucks, which by the way, it's a whole new topic! Cheers! :p

Low quality ingredients I think they sweeten some of their drinks because mine tasted really sweet. I asked for almond milk but you can't really tell if it is. They also charge an extra .50 cents for dairy free milk

It's ok. I like their mocha and some of their pastries, but they need to work on their customer service. About half the time my orders are either forgotten or they get it wrong. One time they went through the motions of grilling my panini and I took it home and it was still cold. Frustrating. Also, when I remind them that they still haven't given me my coffee or some other order, they don't even say "Oh, sorry about that, lemme get that for you right now" They just ignore the fact that they've completely forgotten while I've been waiting, no acknowledgment of what just happened. More customer service training needed, I guess...

Really phenomenal coffee! This is a great place to go to in outer mission, with pleasant ambiance and outdoor seating, which is such a gem. I recommend the iced coffee. It was not watered down at all. I also got the almond croissant, which was not to die for, but still a pleasant food item. All in all, good crowd to bring a friend (I overheard two people talking about career advice and future plans). At another table, was a study group with kids, and another guy going through a work book by himself in the outdoor patio.

Friendly baristas. They offer a variety of sweet breads, breakfast and lunch options. Parking can be a little crazy but when you find one it's worth coming in. Since there's no Starbucks near by cumaica is the next best thing in the area.

This place is so lame. Unfriendly and bad service, dry baked goods and, yeah, last time I was there I got a moldy pumpkin bread. Yuck. The coffee beans are over roasted. Let's face it, this place would never fly in other parts of town. It's like Costco opened a coffee shop. It has gotten me to make my own coffee at home so I guess that is a plus. Or I get in the car and drive to better coffee, food and service.

Awesome shop & community hub. The women who work here are the nicest. The food is top notch, and the coffee is damn good. Oh, and the back patio is a real gem.

I've come here 10 times, for sandwich or coffee. Been chill, mostly. But yesterday I went in at lunchtime and ordered a small coffee. The cashier charged me for a medium, a difference of 25 cents. Not a big deal, we all make mistakes, but still. So I try to get the girl's attention and she ignores me to my face and proceeds to have conversation with the 3 other young women coworkers. I couldn't believe it. I asked politely four times for some assistance and was ignored. Finally I guess the "manager" listened to me and gave me 25 cents back, begrudgingly. Then I remembered they did something similar to me about four months ago. Another drink, another overcharge, another case of ignoring the customer. I didn't say anything then because I thought I made a mistake, and didn't want a confrontation over something so small. So I'm avoiding this place. If you go, check your total before paying.

Had the breakfast bagel sandwich. Omg! It was so good and HUGE! Great value for the money. This place is a must try. Better than Starbucks.

This is not my favorite coffee place. To order, I had to call the baristas over both times I went up to the counter. They were more into their conversation than working. I'm not used to this at a coffee shop, where most baristas are very engaging, which is probably due to the fact they they are on a crap-ton of caffeine. My fiance and I both got bagel sandwiches, which were pretty good but kind of generic. The coffee was ok. I liked that they had a wide selection of coffees by the pound and the prices of everything are descent. But personally, I am not planning on going back here. There are so many little coffee shops in the area, so I will go to one of the others. Oh, and FYI: They don't allow refills on anything for a small fee like many coffee shops do.

Cumaica is by far my favorite coffee shop. I think it's way better then starbucks or Pete's or whatever the hell else there is out there. There are a bunch of sweet women that work there, who are consistently very nice and courteous- they remember your regular order after about three days- It's amazing how fast they are, and how good of service they give to you considering how packed they usualy are. The coffee is strong, but not overbearing, basically just great coffee. They have a wide variety of other food there as well from sandiwches to pastries, and breakfast burriots. . . I always get there bagels and cream cheese which they definitely don't go light on like a majority of the other coffee shops out there. Anybody can be or should be a regular at Cumaica- conisdering there are now I think about five spread out SF.

I'm sitting here as I write this review and my whole experience (first time here!) has been EXCELLENT! I think I found the cafe that I will frequent to study in as my schoolwork gets more intense towards finals! I'm a Mocha Espresso freak. I just LOVE Mocha. And they made my Mocha espresso well!! The staff is also super friendly. As of right now, there is one person making the drinks but she doesn't seem stressed or anything which I like!! Very very friendly people! Me gusta! Yes, this is my first time here and I love it already. I think I already became loyal to this branch and brand! PLUS, their logo looks so damn cool!! OHSNAPS! I see a sign that says they offer Peppermint Mocha! YEESSS!! I shall try that tomorrow morning. ^_____________________^

Horrible customer service! I'm a Spanish speaker communication wasn't an issue! Lady didn't even finish my order and was kicking me out of the counter to help a Caucasian customer with a way better actitud! I asked for bathroom key and just to have an answer this girl acted like if I was asking her to do the favor of my life. Never again in you are a Latin woman, doesn't matter if you do have money to pay is not worth the bad time just for a cup of coffee!

I came in here today making a pit stop for a cup of Large Cafe Latte. The workers are nice and friendly. Nice spot for a coffee shop in the Excelsior District, there is always a seat available for the two times I've been here. Free Wi-Fi and Outdoor Seating makes each coffee shop experiences more enjoyable. Their food items selection is something I have yet to try the next time I come in. What more can I say? Excellent customer service, plenty of seats with free Wi-Fi in a quiet coffee shop. Most customers just come to order the items they need and leave so this is a very good spot for a coffee break. With plenty of coffee shops scattered in various locations throughout San Francisco, there is always a coffee shop nearby to satisfy your coffee cravings.

O man o man i just left cumaica.Did not know they have a minimum of $5 minimum card transaction. Deal breaker! Went back to statbucks. Convenience at its finest. I may be a snall fish but a consuming small fish non the less. Miffed.

This coffee shop isn't too shabby. I liked it. It's located right on Mission street next to Ocean avenue next to the 49 & 14 bus lines. Now the coffee I had was the roast of the day and it was probably a medium roast. Not too strong in flavor, and nice amount of caffeine to go with it. The place was okay for me because it has all the essentials to serve customers, however, it wasn't great and the ambiance was so so. They had Christmas music turned on, but it was too low to hear. I'm just saying, if you intend to jump on the holiday band wagon and play this cheese-y stuff, turn it up a little so that it doesn't just sound like noise. There was a limited supply of newspapers for The Examiner available and that was it. Next time I swing by here I'll be sure to bring my own reading material and put on some headphones too.

Not the type of service I can justify spending money on. Really disappointed in this cafe as a neighbor and former long time customer.

Excellent place. Good coffee and awesome bagels. Recently I tried their veggie bagel and I am hooked now :) it's so good.

Recently ordered: Iced vanilla latte w/ pumpkin slice loaf I was really surprised by how close this coffee spot was near where I was after I picked up a friend of mine to grab a cup of joe. The interior of this spot is really nice and seems relaxing. They also have a back balcony type deal going on with a wooden bench and a few chairs and tables. That is definitely a plus on a really nice day too. Selection was great and I was impressed. My vanilla latte was propertly sweetened and he pastry was pretty darn good. too. On a nice sunny day like this, I would come back for some iced coffee along with a pastry to share while chillin in the back .. that's the life!

Neighbourhood coffee shop ... looks like family run and locally owned. This is an amazing place to grab a coffee and read a book or gather with friends. I love the backyard seating and if you are lucky, the sun will shine here.

I walked in very hopeful and excited to find this coffee shop so close to where I live. I approached the register and the cashier was very unfriendly. In fact, the majority of the women working here looked like they did not want to be here. I myself work at a cafe and although I'm not ecstatic to see customers all the time, I at least greet them and don't sound rude while taking their orders. As for the cafe au lait that I ordered, it was decent. I also ordered a cream cheese bagel and it tasted fishy. LITERALLY. I have no idea why. As much as I love trying new coffee shops I don't think I'll be back.

Great coffee in the Excelsior area! I came here on a Monday at around 8:30am, and the place wasn't crowded. There are plenty of tables indoors, and extra seating outdoors as well! I ordered a medium Caramel Macchiato, and the service was quick and efficient. The Caramel Macchiato was delicious, with just enough sweetness that it wasn't overpowering. Overall, I would definitely come back here again when I'm in the area!

My dad introduced me to this place. He visits at least 2-3 times per week. I LOVE their coffee, period. They have a pretty decent selection of pastries and breakfast burritos, sandwiches and bagels. I was there yesterday with my dad and devoured a bacon and egg burrito. It was perfect. Unfortunately while we were there, the group of elderly men next to our table were being very inappropriate saying very sexual things about a woman who was on the phone.... I know it's out of the hands of the cafe but still uncomfortable nonetheless. We moved tables, and problem solved. If I lived closer this would definitely be my daily coffee spot.

A neighborhood gem! They have a variety of drinks and snacks. They are well-staffed for a coffee house so they move through a line quickly. Their patio is clean and the tables are spaced out.

Oh lord this place is so awful. When it was Martha brothers it was pretty bad, but since becoming cumaica it has fully embraced its third world shittyness! Mediocre coffee, and horrific bagels. Add to that the fact that if you don't speak Spanish you are shit out of luck and you have a recipe for low quality. AVOID THIS PLACE

I still refer to Cumaica as the old Martha Brothers. The place is exactly the same with the same menu. With that said - great location on Mission and free wifi. Usually plenty of seating and solid breakfast bagel and smoothie options.

This place has the potential to be great. I am very understanding when it comes to customer service, but it is very lacking here. It's usually the same two employees. I have to wait until they are done with their conversation before I can order. When they do take my order, their mannerisms change as if I'm bothering them. I'm sorry, but why don't customers never return so that you guys can chat all day? I don't speak Spanish. (I know I know, we're in the Excelsior) So please don't have an entire conversation in Spanish while LOOKING IN MY DIRECTION. It's just rude; doesn't even matter if you're talking about the weather.

Good little cafe spot in the Outer Mission Area. With a nice outdoor seating area, it's an excellent place to have a veggie breakfast bagel and get some work done. Their coffee and espresso drinks leave something to be desired, but they have excellent chai and matcha green tea! All in all, good spot for the area. Also; Wi-Fi!

Awesome caramel latte! The toasted bagels are bomb as well. Always an early morning go-to when I get my nails done around the corner

too bad yelp doesn't have a "dislike" button for people's asinine reviews. anyhoo! this place is awesome. we're in the excelsior ya'll. this isn't a pretentious, hipstery, single cup, blah blah blah spot. it's a solid little coffee shop. in the excelsior. the chai is yummy. has a lot more kick to it than other places who serve "chai." most folks don't know good chai if it slapped them in the face, so i don't really care for other people's opinions on that. :) this spot has an adorable and spacious back patio. the service was friendly and quick. there is wifi. they take cash and cards. i like to support the shops in this often overlooked neighborhood. enjoy what's around you, folks. if you don't like it, take your complaints elsewhere. i will be back to cumaica. thanks for your presence here.

Trying a new coffee location is always an enjoyable endeavor. To start with, I love coffee so anytime I need an excuse for a cup I can always say - well I will Yelp about it. More than likely I have a very bad caffeine addiction, but honestly I am okay with that. So this shop is nice. There is a solid vibe and it looks good inside. The counter and menus are easy to see for picking out food and drinks. The staff was very nice. It wasn't the fastest cup of coffee I have had made, but I will take substance over speed any day of the week. The only detractor (which isn't a big deal to me) is the lack of relaxing or lounging space. But I don't feel that every coffee shop needs to be a wi-fi lounge so it was cool with me. As for the bean, I had a nicely flavored Mocha that was just right in regards to strength and flavor. After a sip I was wiggling which means I am enjoying my coffee!

Long line. Takes for ever to order. One person taking order, another making the orders. Another woman on the back sitting playing w/ her phone. They are friendly, but I do not recomended. My third time there and always there is a problem. Last time I wanted to get a box of coffee for 20 to 25 persons and they were looking left and right and could not find it. They call the owner and was as sleep. I ended up living w/ out my office teachers coffee. I am not coming back.
