Curfew is a lovely space for an extended, boozier than you anticipated late Saturday lunch.
Kelly and I were enjoying a staycation down the street, and while looking for a lunch spot we spied Curfew and decided to pop in after reviewing the menu online.
We were so glad we did!
The space is delightfully lit to complement the modernist but cozy bistro feel, and the four tops have buttery leather chairs that beg you to linger. Its perfect for losing a couple hours to good food and drink.
We started off with some cocktails, then ordered a bottle of Chablis and some food - the octopus and roasted cod. We supplemented our lunch with a scotch egg before finishing off with another round of cocktails and the chocolate mousse.
I cannot recommend this course of action highly enough.
The cocktails are extremely well made and have a lot of balance. I started with the Streeterville, which was a perfectly balanced riff on a Black Manhattan, and Kelly had the Magnificent, a well balanced rum drink where the tartness is leavened with sweet notes.
For dessert, Kelly had the Giallo which is a classic Last Word with the addition of chocolate, which surprisingly works - it really held the drink together. I wanted the Michigan Avenue Favorite but they were out an ingredient so I just went with Wild Turkey 101 on the rocks. Noble bourbon boozers will appreciate the fallback - sometimes you just gotta power on through!
The octopus was perfectly grilled, and tender without a hint of chewiness. The cod was melt in your mouth good, meaty and flaky. The boar sausage in the scotch egg was earthy and spiked with a bit of spice, possibly fennel. The crust on the scotch egg was a little crunchier than I liked but it was easily discarded.
Finally, the mousse was divine, silky smooth and topped with whipped cream. I could have eaten one myself.
The dinner menu is pretty much the same as the lunch menu.
If you are living in or visiting Streeterville, this is a high quality hotel restaurant that you should put on your itinerary.
