The Best Places to Fika Swedish Style in London - Eater London

"This might be the friendliest café in London, loved by locals, freelancers and tourists alike. The owner, Shoko Ghanbar, was raised in Stockholm and really understands the art of fika, with a whole blackboard full of different hot drinks. The gifflar, or mini cinnamon rolls, are a steal at 45p each or three for £1." - Alex Peake-Tomkinson

I love this little cafe, always cozy and friendly. Good place to have a great breakfast/lunch/coffee, or during their quieter times it's also great to sit and work there for a bit. I love the vegan options! Particularly the specials (usually also a gluten free option), vegan cheesecake and sandwich (definitely have that toasted!).

Best little cafe based in Shoreditch/ Hoxton more specifically- couple mins away from old street. Great way to start my mornings or to come for brunch- friendly welcoming staff and chef! Their famous sandwiches sell out quick- my fave is the salmon bagel with the fentimans cola combination. Their hazelnut lattes are also great! Great atmosphere for studying/ working - their food is made with love and you can definitely taste it 🥯🍰🧁☕️

You can feel the love and passion that's built into the fabric of the Kafe. The full English breakfast was amazing. It was possibly the best I've ever eaten. Everything was tasty, well-balanced, not excessively greasy and perfectly cooked. I'm an HP sauce fiend and I barely had any because everything was so tasty I didn't want to cover the taste! Great service and atmosphere (staff& customers). It'll definitely be a new regular place for breakfast/brunch.

Everything about this funky little brunchy cafe reminds me of all the best hole in wall local joints in San Francisco. The staff is kind, accommodating and helpful. The food and coffee is fresh. Keep in mind this place is small, there's probably only room for one person in their tiny little kitchen area behind the counter, and they're very busy between diners/take away, at least on the Saturday I came by, so don't expect to rush through a sit in experience here. They'll get your food to you as quickly as possible and it'll be worth the wait!

Google
Very cozy and “fika” type of vibe, in this little cute, yellow café. Managed to get seated right away on a busy Saturday late morning. Really friendly staff and good vibes; the food was lovely and high quality. Had the shakshuka and my brunch partner had the eggs royale (benedict with smoked salmon). The royale especially was really good, with very fresh salmon and fluffy english muffins, plus the hollandaise sauce was not too overpowering. Cappuccinos on point too!

Amazing cafe! Amazing food! Such a warm, local, welcoming atmosphere which is so rare in london!

Used to love this place, but the atmosphere became extremely hostile and unwelcoming. Edit in response - I have indeed visited many times, perhaps before the current owner, who seems extremely joyous to know that he made customers "run off" due to where they come from. I'm completely unbothered by your political opinions, but I do believe that your comment speaks for itself, and shows clearly what a rude and hateful individual runs this place.

Google
Excellent cafe /restaurant situated in trendy Hoxton. The ambiance definitely fits the area. Not large, with indoor and outdoor tables. Food ranged from full English breakfast to the veggie burger which was very tasty and you must try the homemade lemonade. The only downside is the amount of time you wait to get served as the kitchen are is small with about 2 people cooking, but if you're not in a hurry it's well worth the wait.

Yelp
Little gem in Hoxton Good selection of hot and cold drinks (freshly made) Great tunes playing (jazzy and dreamy) making for a cozy atmosphere Nice place to work from (good WiFi and plugs) - you can stare out the large windows at people passing by for inspiration Friendly and fun staff

Yelp
I have been coming to this cafe since I moved to London and there is a reason why... their beautiful food and special attention. Among all the food The Swedish Meatballs (no Ikea's meatballs but REAL ones) and the chocolate beetroot cake are my favourites. It also a very authentic place with lovely vintage atmosphere... a true Old street gem!

Yelp
If you feel like you've been eating rich foods in London and just want some homey good food and a great coffee, definitely come here. The bagel with smoked salmon hit the spot! Flat white and americano were amazing. Very relaxing neighborhood spot.

Yelp
English breakfast. Not your typical greasy soon version. It's kinda a clean non greasy type which I don't know how I feel about. There was something a little bit amiss for me. My glass came out dirty so they changed it and the person sitting next to me put water in a glass and set it on the floor for her dog to drink from. That kinda affected my enjoyment of the place I guess. Staff are friendly though.

Yelp
I am truly and sincerely OBSESSED with the chocolate beetroot cake with poppyseed frosting. OMG. OMG OMG. Seriously. I don't usually use all caps or "OMG" but it is warranted. Get yourself some of that cake, but make sure to leave one piece for me because I'm on a 1-a-day type regime right now... Recap of past tips, in case they are helpful: *A paper, Otis Redding, a hot Americano...perfect Sunday? Lovely little spot. The fresh blended lemonade is a favorite. Also: chocolate beetroot cake, divine. *No laptops M-F 12-2 and weekends 10-2. Otherwise free wifi! *Scandinavian Breakfast is a fresh and flavorful delight. Outside tables available in good weather. Love this spot! *Check-in offer AFTERNOON: coffee/tea + slice of cake for £3.70, great deal as the cake is usually £2.50 itself.

Yelp
Curious why the Curious Yellow Kafé currently rocks a glowing 5-star average? So was I. So I went. And now I get it. It's no larger than the average flat's bedroom, so don't expect to bring your laptop and sit for hours on end. But this small café knows exactly what it's doing and it proves to do it very, very well. Hand-pulled espresso, a bookshelf full of loose leaf tea to sniff at will and a lovely lunch selection offering Swedish delights like fresh feta and beetroot salad, cauliflower risotto, gravlx salas with mustard dill and mayo with rye bread and of course Sweden's infamous meatballs. Top that off with a cake or tart that's baked in house and you'll see exactly as I did why 5-stars is perfectly accurate. I mean, they cure their own fish. Ikea, who? This is the only Swedish-influenced lunch I need in my life!

Yelp
I was slightly skeptical arriving at The Curious Yellow Cafe as it didn't look so great from the outside and also very small. What have I learnt? Don't judge a book by its cover! Firstly the staff were very warm and welcoming taking our order quickly without being intrusive. We both ordered the vegetarian breakfasts and banana shakes. Both were outstanding. I almost felt guilty as I watched one of the staff leave and return 5 minutes lately with fresh bananas especially for us. There was no 'sorry that's not available.' The breakfast was by far the best vegetarian breakfast I've had since being in London. All prepared and cooked right in front of our eyes in the small kitchen behind the counter so we could see what was going into our food. I must make a special mention to the scrambled eggs. I'm not quite sure what she did but they were delicious! Soft but not runny and sweet and savoury at the same time. Lastly even though it was only 10.30am we opted for a slice of chocolate beetroot cake as we had heard great things. Who could have ever guessed this could be such a great combo! The beetroot made the cake soft and moist but without overpowering the chocolate and the icing completed the masterpiece. This will definitely be on my most recommended cafes list!

Yelp
Dear Curious Yellow Kafe, I could kiss you! There's no denying that our beloved Holloway Road can leave you wanting when it comes to cafes; sure, there's nowt wrong with a cup of builders and a fried egg sandwich, but every now and again, we need something a bit special. At Curious Yellow there are around 10 or more teas to choose from with interesting blends such as the Studio 54, Ceylon tea infused with champagne and strawberries and decorated with sun and corn flower! And an array of pastries and cakes to get you in the mood for some serious scoffage. I chose a Bombay Chai and a Chocolate Square. My god, how I still crave the gooey crunch of that chocolatey heaven. I admit, I haven't been for lunch yet, but the menu is positively inspired and the sandwiches look like they've been blessed by the buttcheeks of cherubs. Prices aren't bad at all, especially considering the excellent ingredients (Cold Cured wild salmon on organic rye from Kent!) The owner was working the day I visited and she was so friendly and welcoming. It has a chilled out atmosphere and not a hint of food snobbery or pretension! Lovely jubbly! A word of warning though, the cafe itself is very small, so get there early to avoid disappointment. Shun the chocolate squares at your peril.

Yelp
I'm currently looking for a new place to live. One visit to the Curious Yellow Kafé on Holloway Road had me saying, 'I think I could be happy living in Lower Holloway.' That's right, folks. I'd consider moving from SW18 to N7 just so that I could be in close stomping distance to this glorious little café. The freshly homemade baked goods, the hand-pulled espresso drinks, the delicious tea blends -- these are all things that give this place top marks. Add to that the incredibly friendly business owner and obviously local regulars (a testament to any café's greatness), and it's head of the class. I spent a mere three hours in this tiny café space on Saturday, and I'm all the happier for it.

Yelp
Yes, yet another review of the best care in London, but I promise, I've new info to bring to the table, if you just read on... I found this place on Yelp and had been meaning to go for ages. Now, it's my guilty pleasure. I have fully incorporated it into my weekend ritual. Every Saturday, and in this case Sunday, I drag my drunk/hungover arse out of bed and go to my morning yoga class. After I sweating out the alcohol I make my way Curious Yellow Kafe. Before you arrive, accept the fact that you very well may need to sit outside. This place is cozy. Although it's in Hoxton/Shoreditch, it's located on a relatively quiet street. When the weather's nice, they leave the door open so you can still enjoy the tunes playing inside. The problem I have with the cafe is a big one- the food is SO good that it takes everything in my power not to lick the plate clean. How dare they make Eggs Benedict that good! I mean really, who do they think they are?! I can't control myself! I inhale them. Which takes me to my next point, the quality of the food is incredible!! I paid £7.50 for a smoked salmon salad, and there was at least £5 worth of smoked salmon on it. It's worth trying things that may be out of your comfort zone because everything here is good - including the coffee. Now for the best part: they're opening a deli two doors down!! It will be called Summer with Monika, opening in a couple weeks. Much bigger space and a larger seating area. Moving from Dublin last year was hard, London is so big! But now, I've found my place. I recognise the faces inside, and I know I'll always be taken care of here. Love you, CYK x x x

Yelp
So I've actually been to this many times before as it is my local! Each time the staff are really friendly, the food is delicious, the music playing is nice and easy to hold a conversation in. It's small inside but I've always been able to get a seat when I come and if it's busy there is a quaint churchyard across te street so there is always take-away. They have a delicious full English and I think the best bacon in London. I haven't yet tried the Scandinavian breakfast(weekends only) but I will if I ever get tired of the bacon bap! They have delicious looking cakes which they make on site. And they make ice coffee the way it should be made ( with crushed iced!) I can't wait t they all know me by name but it's only a matter of time because I get a bacon bap at least once a week!

Yelp
I'm not exaggerating when I write this review. My friend and I ordered two breakfast plates at 13:13 and did not get our food until 13:52. The staff did not check up on us and was unapologetic when I went up to check on my food.It was not even busy... I ordered the eggs Benedict and the eggs were over cooked. It was very bland and sloppy. You would hung the food would've came out perfect due to the long wait but I guess not. Stay away and go to the surrounding cafes.

Yelp
A tiny cafe offering scandinavian breakfasts, a great banana smoothie and so-so cake. The interior is a little run-down and dank but sweet. The food displayed is quite obviously home-made and presented very much so. The staff are nice and we ended up ordering a mocha chino, swedish breakfast as it's not something you see everyday, banana smoothie and chocolate beet cake. Service was quick and we got stuck in. The Swedish breakfast is something really easy to put together and was excellent. Essentially some pate, veg, Gravlax, bread/crackeds. I loved the bread. The salmon was supposed to be a raw salmon "Gravlax" but to me this just tasted like smoked salmon. My unrefined taste-buds perhaps. The cappuccino was too strong for me, not enough choc, but great quality coffee beans. The banana smoothie, Heaven. I was a little disappointed with the Choc beetroot cake. You couldn't really taste the beetroot, but I'll believe they were in there. So everything food wise was okay/good with nothing standout as I was expecting. It was a nice cafe in a nice location, but without a real reason to return unless this is your local.

Yelp
Great little coffee shop and cafe in Hoxton! Generally, baked goods at coffee shops aren't anything to write home about, but I dove right in to the chocolate beet and blood orange cakes they had here. The service was friendly, and the coffee was good. What more can you ask for? It was a simple, unfussy joint and looks like just the place to hibernate with a book on a rainy day sometime soon...
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! I've been searching East London for months attempting to recreate the perfect smoothie (I used to make circa '06, Barrio East comes close). FOUND! Whether your after a hangover cure or just attempting to fill your 5+ a day.. Get here! Fresh, fresh, succulent morsels of happiness! Get here for a sweet Veggie brunch including all the colours of the rainbow! Happiness on a plate! About to try the Beetroot choc cake.. Will let you know more soon!

Yelp
That was okay. Not the best place I had lunch, but still good for England. I had the salmon croissant, and apparently in London this is what a croissant looks like. Allez au revoir.
google avatar

Daniel K.

Yelp
It was just as great as the previous umpteen times I come here. My stuffed peppers were delicious and that chocolate beetroot cake is to die for. They do need to do something about that not locking bathroom door though. The wind makes it creak threateningly, moving slightly and you feel as if you are literally about to be caught with your pants down.
google avatar

Yelp
Had brunch here today with friends and more of a mixed experience than the last time I was here. Our food took FOREVER to come despite this being such a small place. I got the aubergine and tofu curry (sans rice) which I thought was quite tasty and a good value; not the best food I've ever had but nicely rich. I also got the spiced pumpkin soup with kale and that was a huge disappointment. The portion is enormous but the soup was totally flavourless. I took maybe a few spoonfuls and the rest went to waste. My husband liked his lamb burger and my friend got the Swedish meatballs and found them tasty enough. Not sure I would return here again unless the food I had on my first visit returned to the menu.
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
Curious has a crazy delicious croissant with scrambled eggs and bacon. As a well-traveled Anglophile, I'd place the bacon squarely in the meaty purgatory of streaky (American) and fatty (British). The coffee is very good, with the small exception that their Americanos are so hot they could literally melt through the Earth's crust were you to accidentally spill some on the ground. The service is a bit slow, especially when it's busy and raining outside (translation: always), but that can be forgiven for the cost - the aforementioned runs a paltry 6.30 GBP. You could eat here for a week for the same cost as some posh brunch joints.

Yelp
5 things. One, a perfect latte. Two, a perfect croissant. Three, "would you like some water" meant serves with a fresh sprig of mint in a glass bottle. Four, there is a guy in there eating what appears to be a fantastic breakfast. Five, the service is impeccable. This is a perfect little cafe in a nice quiet little intersection.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I went here a couple of days ago. Honestly did not love the food. It has not taste. We had to add salt and pepper to make it taste a lil decadent. Service is good just not a place for our taste.
google avatar

Jasmin M.

Yelp
Cute place, friendly staff. Delicious pain au chocolate. We ordered the ham and cheddar croissant, salmon and eggs croissant, eggs and bacon croissant and avocado, eggs and bacon. Pretty good and reasonably sized. Coffee was ok. We're used to kiwi style coffee but what we had was pretty ok. Would return.

Yelp
A cafe just across the road from where I was staying on my brief visit. The staff were warm and friendly but not intrusive. The farmers breakfast was delightful! I have no idea how the make their baked beans but I am not sure I'll ever eat Heinz in the same way again! Would absolutely return here!

Yelp
Curious Yellow Kafe... I like the quirky name. Looks good from the outside and attracts my attention. Inside it's small but perfectly formed and friendly. It's a tiny oasis of calm. A few seated customers enjoying their coffee and lunch, catching up with each other... Newspapers available on the wall, if you want. Sandwich was perfect. Really fresh and crispy yet soft baguette, with good quality and flavourful ham and salad filling that was just right. Great coffee and good value all round. Look forward to my next visit.

Yelp
I am an Islington yuppie through and through, so rarely wander up past Highbury and Islington tube. It gets a little less yup and a little too yob. Which is why I never discovered the Curious Yellow Kafe till the very day I left the city. Midway up Holloway Road is this teeny little cafe, and as the previous reviewer wrote, it's something a bit special. Welcoming and friendly, I instantly turned to Larissa D. and said 'Total Win!'. Freshly baked cakes, delicious baguettes and bagels on offer. Not even to mention the blackboard of breakfasts and lunch specials including Swedish meatballs, Gravad salmon and Eggs Benedict. The highlight of our visit was a slice of pumpkin and chocolate cake that was so dense and moist we had to order two. Amazing. The owner of Curious was working the day we visited and she was so sweet and chatty. A small child was slurping up his spaghetti and banging his plastic toy onto her nice, wooden table but she smiled indulgently and you could tell she loved meeting her customers. I asked for a bagel and they were all out so she baked me a fresh one... After also blending me a fresh lemonade. It's probably a good thing I never discovered Curious earlier, because I know that I would stop visiting all other coffee shops and pledge allegiance to this wonderful little place.

Yelp
So down to Holloway Road I walked one cold winter's day, avoiding slipping on the ice and looking forward to the thought of enjoying breakfast at the local cafe which I had somehow previously overlooked but has over the last 12 months garnered 7 five star reviews from Yelp's elite. First impressions were good. The seating space had increased by 50% from early reviews (from 4 seats to 6) and I found a spot near the door. I ordered a croissant and scrambled eggs from the menu and my customary double mac. I was also given a glass of iced tap water freshened with cucumber without having to ask - a nice touch. The coffee was huge - more like the size of a Latte which while nice, kind of misses the point. The breakfast itself was simply presented but what can you really do with scrambled eggs and a croissant but was perfectly nice to eat. As I ate, the kitchen brought out a series of cakes which will do doubt be devoured by locals throughout the day and I was already thinking about returning to sample a slice of the Carrot or Blueberry cake, both of which looked great. So to continue the five star tradition? Not yet - more investigation to be done. However, four stars reflects my eagerness to do just that.

Yelp
Blimey this place is getting all the right reviews. I popped over to here (thanks Yelp App) when I was considering a tattoo drawing from over the road at Haunted Tattoo. It's small, and has a nice little atmosphere. The staff are lovely - a lady behind the counter and a guy in the kitchen. The menu was small, but obviously changed recently. My two friends and I grabbed the corner of the bar (taking up what felt like half the restaurant) and ordered some lunch. The service is not speedy, but that's obviously because it's all made as fresh as can be. I could almost have gone swimming in my chai latte it was that big. I don't often order pasta in restaurants because it can be so disappointing, but my linguine, tomato, grilled aubergine and feta was delicious. As was one friend's lentil salad thing and the other friend's scotch broth. Plus it was very decent value. I will certainly be going back there when I go to get the actual tattoo...

Yelp
For the amazing chocolate & beetroot cake alone I give this place 5-stars. It is THE best...yuuummmm.... I was visiting friends in London & looking for places to go for coffee & cakey eats and a few cool Yelpy folk recommended this cafe (or Kafe). I am SO glad they did. Bonus also being none of my lovely London friends had been here either so it was a very pleasant surprise for them too (one of my friends actually works just around the corner from here so she was even more overjoyed to discover the place). It was a beautiful hot, sunny day (remember them? *sigh*) when we arrived here & it was more out of the way than I had anticipated but we found it eventually, sadly upon arriving there were no tables outside free (one of my friends was heavily pregnant at the time & couldn't bare the heat inside) so I thought the game was up but then luckily a party of people left so we quickly pounced on their table like an excitable kitten. Yas. I liked the laid-back feel to the place, the staff were all lovely & I liked the (mostly) IKEA retro-feel cups & glassware. The toilet is also quite quaint ~ instead of regular handles they have used forks which I thought was a nice wee, quirky touch. This place does Scandinavian inspired food & they had all their dishes written on a blackboard. A lot of the dishes here are veggie/vegan but not all of them. My friends opted for some light bites (sandwich/bagel and a veggie 'sausage' roll) whilst I went for the Scandinavian Breakfast (£7.50) which is served only at the weekends. It was really good ~ a big plate with gravlax, ham, pate, cheese, crudites, pickles/gherkins & also bread & butter. Super tasty. I knew I was going to get the (now infamous) chocolate & beetroot cake because well, just BECAUSE, so I thought the Scandi Brekkie wouldn't actually be as large as it was (still, I ain't complaining!) meaning I did have to wait a while between breakfast & cake but that just meant more time to relax, drink good coffee and enjoy the surroundings. When the clock struck I knew it was indeed cake o'clock; this was what I had been waiting for and I really hoped I wouldn't be disappointed...HELL NO! The chocolate & beetroot cake with it delicious frosting was absolutely divine. I didn't want that cake to end...so moist, so tasty, so YES! I was happy the whole time I was here at the CYK but upon leaving I got sad, realising that this was probably the last time I would savour that delicious cake for a good while yet...and so I sat & hoped that one day those lovely people at CYK would come to Glasgow & open up one of their cafes so I could have my regular fix of C&B cake. Uh. PLEASE! (Thank you)

Yelp
Such friendly service and delicious food! Extra flavorful in a land where that's not necessarily the norm. Delightful! I have discovered halloumi, grilled! And grilled cornbread!

Yelp
Favourite coffee shop in London. I love everything about this little place. So cozy and welcoming. I live nearby and it is always an option for me, both eat in or take away. I am totally obsessed with their 'cinnamon buns'. They can warm them up for you. AMAZING. I could eat them every single day :) I like going there to have breakfast before work or during the weekend. They make delicious 'Egg Benedicts', fantastic homemade bakery and great coffee and fresh juices! I never been there during lunch time (I have to, no excuses!) Besides, the staff is pretty awesome :)

Yelp
This is what I want to have!! If only more places would take the same attitude and quality world would be a far better place! Totally deserving 5 stars, this is the classic place where you want to go for having a quick lunch with a friend, or a coffee. It has tables outside, which I hope to use as soon as the weather will allow it (yes, I still believe we could have some nice days in London!), and the interior is just "cute": familiar, colored, it reminds me of the exhibition in IKEA but more authentic, more "house" (damn, did I really use quotation marks twice?! that means a lot about how much I like this place!). Lunch time: menu on chalk, which I love, simple, home-made cuisine with a deep influence from nordic countries: potatoes salad, meatballs with raspberry jam, saumon and so on.. something not that easy to find in London!! Very well made sandwiches and nice beverages (try the homemade lemonade!).. What else? Oh yes! People working there are actually NICE: friendly, smiling, they will make you feel among friends in less than a minute! That's something really hard to find in London, and that's why I fell in love with this place! Suggested, no better, recommended, even more, just go there and smile!!

Yelp
Came here for breakfast. I really enjoyed my cup of flat white. Coffee was super acidic and strong (which I like!) and loved the cranberry, banana cake which I had too! Definitely will be back when I am in London!

Yelp
It's hard to find good coffee in London but this cafe has nailed it. I had a takeaway soy cappuccino & it was perfectly smooth. I visited midweek & mid morning, there was a little wait but not too long.

Yelp
Food: Swedish light lunch cafe food, no paper menus so you read whats available on the day on the chalkboard. Ordered a smorgasboard which had included a nice smooth pate, tasty ham and a thick piece of brown bread all in a good portion size. I tried the beetroot choc cake (iced home made chocolate cake with a hint of beetroot - I liked it but not for sweet tooths) I liked the nice coffee, there are few teas or iced drinks to choose from too. Service: Nice friendly staff, nothing to fault, food came quickly and all the food is home made. Look/Atmosphere: Small hipster cafe with a few tables and a cosy comfortable seating area inside and seating area outside. Price: Good value for money for tasty food, food and a drink can be £6-10 Tick! Overall:3/5 - Nice cute hipster cafe recommended for a quiet sip of tea/coffee or tasty light lunch for small groups.

Yelp
Do you like your breakfast to be...brutal? Where better to go than a barbaric brutal Swedish breakfast cafe? Anyway. I was pretty attached to Imadeitforyou (gypsy creams, woooord) which occupied where CYK is now, so it took me a long time to grieve and mourn and really feel ready to let go of what was and embrace what is. I'm glad to say CYK is a really good place, and I'm definitely going to be back in the future. The interior is much the same as IMIFY which brought back some tears and memories - fairly rustic cottage feel with a dinky kitchen area which somehow manages to see through a not insubstantial volume of food. Overall, it's cosy and the outside seating is really nice during the summer. Additionally, they refrain from playing Abba in the cafe which is very kind of them. Ok, that's the last Swedish dig I'm going to put in for now. I've been a few times - the first time I was boring and went for the equivalent of a Full English. It's a couple of quid more expensive than a greasy spoon, but pretty good, the beans in particular. I've also tried their full Swedish too which features gravlax, cheese, ham, pate, rye bread...it's really rather good and nice to have something a bit different. I'd love to go back to try their lunch menu - it seems to change reasonably frequently and consists of simple, good food. The coffee here is pretty decent, not spectacular but nice and they offer a decent selection of teas, craft beer, lemonade et al. Overall, a relaxed, friendly place with simple, good food, nice staff, reasonable prices and somewhere I could spend a few hours in with a book and the sort of place I'd absolutely love to have as my local cafe.

Yelp
Thanks to yelp for suggesting me to try this cute little place in old street. I tried the chai latte and it was nice because they ask you on whether you want it sweet or not. It was served in a big cup so you get a very good deal for £2.20. I would like to become their regular customer if I lived nearby.

The food here is really great value- £5 will get you a big, hearty slice of butternut squash, feta, and chickpea pie with a nice, healthy side salad. I've come back and ordered this same dish twice. Plenty of outdoor seating in the summer makes this a nice place to linger with a fresh lemonade (like, when you order it, it is still in lemon form...) and people watch. This is a great spot to meet up with friends for a light lunch, cake, or tea (but equally a comfortable and cozy spot to dine alone). I'm really happy CYK has come to fill the void left by the now deceased (and much missed) I Made It For You that occupied the space prior to CYK's move from Holloway Road. Welcome to Pitfield Street! I'm happy you're here.

Yelp
Very nice place on a quiet little square in the very lively East End if London. Good breakfast items (pastries eggs and bacon.) and excellent milkshakes ! Service is a bit slow but it kinds of fits with the "home made" feeling of the place. Had a great breakfast under the Sun.

Yelp
I love this place because it's consistent - always friendly service, interesting menu of hot foods, and they get the Scandinavian sense of coziness just right. The chocolate beetroot cake has been mentioned 1000x for good reason. It's excellent and worth stopping in for alone, with delicious poppyseed frosting. The Scandinavian breakfast set is also delicious and quite light while being generous portion wise. Best tables are the large ones in the bay windows. Mind that the place gets quite busy for weekend brunch, and that the kitchen closes during weekday afternoons (seems like sometime after 2). There are still lots of pastries and sandwiches for when that happens.

Yelp
After reading all the reviews here, I knew we had to go - especially being only a hop skip and jump away from our new flat. No stranger to European breakfast, I really shouldn't have been disappointed with my Scandinavian breakfast - but I was and looked longingly at my partner's Farmer's breakfast throughout the whole meal. I can handle bread with lots of meat and cheese (for of course, that's what I ordered) but the crackers didn't sit too well and I left the restaurant mainly feeling hungry. That being said, there is something very quaint about this little Yellow Cafe and just sitting there you feel as if you've wandered upon a neighborhood affordable gem. I think I may stick to our other local favourites for weekend brunch, but I'm looking to give the Swedish meatballs a go and hoping my next review hits 4 or 5.

Yelp
Small, quaint Swedish influenced cafe on a quiet side street in Hoxton. On a nice sunny day, snag a table outside with the distinctive yellow checkered plastic table cover (which needs a food wipe). Service was lovely though. I had the farmer's breakfast and asked for the sausage to be omitted - she immediately asked if I wanted more if another item. Chai tea was delicious and the portion was very generous. Would go back for sure!

Yelp
Busy without being unpleasantly rammed of a sunny weekend. They know their way around an egg! Offerings of eggs florentine/benedict/scrambled/poached with lovely fresh bread and muffins and great coffee and Swedish sweet treats for the breakfast pudding you didn't know you wanted. I will be back!

Yelp
Lovely little slice of Sweden. Decent coffee and great range of teas. Good cakes, lovely and homemade. ''Please do takeways in the evening, that would be great!''

Yelp
This is one of my local coffee spots. It's a great little cafe that has great coffee and customer service. A major plus is that dogs are welcome and even get a little doggy treat sometimes!

Yelp
Just a minor coffee update to Curious Yellow - an (apparently off-menu?) flat white was just as good and slightly stronger-flavored, in a good way, compared to the lattes. I can easily drink 2 or 3 coffees here without my palate being burnt out or crushing my wallet.

Yelp
Disappointing. Bad service combined with over/poorly cooked food. Waited 30 min for my avocado and egg toast, which was first served to customers who came after me... When the food arrived my egg was over cooked (probably an egg from a previous order as it was cold). When I let the waitress know I got a second egg with plenty of vinegar... The two star is for the avocado.

Yelp
A lovely little cafe - so friendly and really personal service. The guy always remembers me! Coffee is nice and baked goods are tasty. The vibe is more your nice neighbourhood hangout - relaxed and basic, a good place for a regular lunch, over a lot of attention to detail in the food or a lot of comfort to linger over coffee. My only quibble is they can be a bit stingy with portions - a lunchtime salad sometimes doesn't sustain you through! And for £7+, it needs to.

Yelp
As a Scandinavian person, I never really expected to ever go to a Scandinavian eatery, as I feel like there isn't much that's typically Scandinavian that is also particularly good. However this place managed to be both. The coffee and tea I had was good quality, and the eggs Benedict were delicious. The price was also reasonable. The atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant. The only complaint I have is that the croissant I had was quite dry, which is the only thing keeping me from giving it five stars.
