When I came here, I had the Masala Dosa. I liked it, but I wouldn't exactly call it authentic (although it clearly tasted like it was made by Desi people).
The dosa itself was crispy, just as I requested. It tasted ok, but was bland. Dosa batter is supposed to be fermented and, consequently, is supposed to have a mild tartness. The Dosa here lacked that tartness. Perhaps they do not ferment the batter overnight as the original recipe calls for?
The Masala was made well. It wasn't spicy, which I appreciated. It tasted as it was supposed to.
The coconut chutney was really good. I liked it a lot, although that was not authentic either. To me, it was like a modern refreshing taste on coconut chutney. It was my favorite part of the meal.
Finally, the Sambar tasted like coarsely-ground Daal that just visually looked like Sambar. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't authentic or particularly satisfying either.
Finally, at the end my my meal, I had Malai Kulfi. It cost me $2.50, but I have had better kulfi for 99 cents. The kulfi was not made at the restaurant, so it's not on them, but the flavor was weak and it wasn't made entirely of cream. Something tasted slightly off and artificial about it.
I'd come here again and try something else (because the other food smelled good), and the service was good, but I wouldn't order the dosa or the kulfi again.
