12 Best Indian Restaurants in Charlotte | Eater Carolinas

"A samosa or crispy veg pakoda, chicken biryani, and multiple curry options like korma, tikka masala, Nepalese gorkha, butter, ticks all the boxes, along with diverse protein options including tofu, paneer, chicken, lamb, goat, or shrimp at this bright, remote Wesley Chapel spot with a full wine menu. Pick from dishes between $15 and $20, and don’t forget the gulab jamun dessert (small, sticky fried dough circles in syrup)." - Shindy Chen

The service was excellent! The staff were very accommodating with us and our special needs child. The food was very good, honestly some of the best Indian I have had in the CLT metro! Highly recommend. Chicken tandoori seasoned perfectly and Smokey (my husbands favorite), and the Tikka Masala gave me that warmth you feel at Christmas time, so delicious .

We've been here multiple times and each time is been amazing. The service is unmatched, the food is delicious and authentic, and the sweetened iced Chai tea is to die for! We love this place and highly recommend to anyone. Great place to bring friends! There have been a few times we've come after church right before they closed at 2:30 (always after a call to make sure it's ok) and it changed nothing, the owners and staff were nothing but kind and so fast!!

I have been wanting to try Curry Place for some time now because the reviews are great and I love Indian food. My daughter and I recently went and had a great experience from beginning to end. The atmosphere is great and the decor is nice but doesn’t have much of an Indian aesthetic. However, that doesn’t matter because the food is what we came for. We were promptly seated and our server was the waiter and the owner. The owner is wonderful and has a great background story to his life. First, we had to order the samosas. When they came out, they were hot, fresh and full of authentic flavor. The flavor was what you’d expect. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and I honestly didn’t have high expectations. I ordered it at spice level 7 out of 10. However, when my dish came out with the basmati rice, I was eager to try. The portion size was enough for two people and from the first taste, it was amazing. It had the perfect blend of ingredients, spices and the curry sauce had the perfect thickness to it. There was no after taste and each bite was just as good as the first. The chicken was cooked very well. It wasn’t overcooked or undercooked. The naan matched very well with the curry and I could’ve kept eating but as I said, the portion size is enough for two. The service was excellent as they made sure to check on us often to make sure we were happy. I was more happy with the meal and knowing that Curry Place is close to my home means I don’t have to drive to Ballantyne, South Park or uptown Charlotte. I highly recommend Curry place for the food first and foremost, the customer service and the value for your money. You won’t be disappointed.

Google
Clean, well laid out and not too crowded at lunch at 11:30 on a Wednesday. Food was perfectly prepared and plentiful. I'm a big guy and had leftovers for another complete meal. Reasonable prices, especially for serving size. I had lamb biryani and plain naan. I'm not Indian, I eat a lot of Indian food and I like spicy, just not extreme. The restaurant offers your choice of spice level. I asked for level 3. I will try 4 next time, but 3 was very good. Pleasant slightly numbing heat that did not mask the flavors or stay present on the tongue too long. The seasoning was excellent and authentic. The lamb was perfectly cooked and very tender.

Google
The food was delicious and I’m looking forward to the next time. The service was nice, the waiter was sweet like an uncle, welcoming you into his kitchen for lunchtime. The only reason I gave 4 stars for atmosphere, smaller dining area - reminds me of European restaurants (not bad but I prefer more booth spacing). Overall, I would highly recommend it.

Google
We had an amazing experience at this restaurant for Valentine's Day! Despite the restaurant being very busy, the food was absolutely worth the wait. The quality was just as exceptional as always, even on a holiday. The flavors were vibrant, fresh, and perfectly balanced – easily the best Indian food you’ll find in Union County. While some might expect quicker service during peak times, it was clear the staff was working hard to give everyone the best experience possible. Definitely recommend for anyone craving top-notch Indian cuisine. We’ll be back for sure!

Google
We’ve been craving curry & naan, so had to try Weddington/Wesley Chapel’s newest restaurant! The food was everything you want in a cozy Indian meal. With only two of us, we tried a few dishes but there were many on the menu we’d like to come back to try. (Would be a fun spot to share bunch of dishes and try them all.) Everything was very flavorful! We tried Rasila Gobi (my fav), Mango Lassis, Shahi Korma | Chicken, Samosa Chat, and of course the Chili Garlic Naan. The only down side is the atmosphere is a little blah. Would love to see them add some touches that really bring the experience full circle. The food definitely makes up for it though.

Google
Been to all the local Indian places over the past 20 years and have to say this is one of the best I've been to. Has all the standard dishes, missing a couple of my favorites but everything is really good. Curry's aren't just a bowl of sauce with a little meat, they are generous portions and the spice is very customizable. 6-7 was about right for us. I really like the Dal Makhani and the Lamb Vindaloo. Service is great and restaurant is very clean. Glad it's close to home so I can go more often.

Yelp
Really quite good for a n'hood curry joint! We had veggie methi, tikka goat and butter chicken! Oh, and the garlic naan was really good too. 5 level spice wasnt that spicy... it was for non-ethnic ppl level of spice lol

Yelp
If I could place no stars, I certainly would! :( Now that this restaurant has established a clientele, it apparently chooses to serve them first. When it first opened, everyone was treated fairly.......or so it seemed. My family and I arrived first, with no one else in the restaurant. We were seated and given menus. Another family arrived shortly thereafter and was seated. A few moments later, the second family was served first. After a few minutes, we have yet to have our order taken. When we inquired, we were told, "ok". Still, no one came, so we decided to leave. Then, we were asked to stay. :( Very disappointed. We were here before. Food pretty good, but will not stay if not served fairly or served at all for that matter! :(

Yelp
Very nice staff and food was delicious they gave me a free delicious mango drink and I devoured my tikka masala the naan was amazing as well 10/10

Yelp
Hello Yelpers! Let's talk about where you can find THE BEST GARLIC NAAN ON THE PLANET! If you live in Wesley Chapel, NC and have seen this restaurant and decided to skip it, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! This food is so delicious, I selfishly debated not writing this to keep it to myself. Yep, I will not lie. I did. After my 25th consistent visit, I just couldn't deny the people. So here we go. Curry has a lovely intimate aesthetic inside. You aren't going to see more than 40 ppl inside. Everything feels authentic to the origin of each dish. If you don't believe me, get the butter chicken or chickpea curry if you'd like to be safe. I've tried multiple items and they haven't disappointed once. The service is always on point, and now that I'm a regular, they already know what I'm getting. That's the stuff of legend when it comes to restaurants. My favorite dish(es) is the Lamb Biryani - heat index 6 (Yes I forgot to add that you can tell them how spicy you'd like it ranging from 1 - 10 so please don't like spice stop you from experiencing this blessing. 2) Tikka Masala - heat index 6 (HEAR ME OUT if you love dipping THE BEST GARLIC NAAN in a rich flavorFULL sauce, this dish is FOR YOU. 3) Butter Chicken is a strong runner up for you sauce dippers. I'd choose heat index 6-7 depending on if I'm feeling risky. 4) Chickpea Curry - which is still masterfully flavorFULL heat index - 7. About this heat index, upon my first visit I order the Rasila Gobi (fried cauliflower) at heat index 8 with the chickpea curry at heat index 8. My mouth was on fire, but I could not stop eating this deliciousness. So please learn from my mistake. The Rasila Gobi (MUST HAVE) has a rich flavor that lingers and intensifies with each bite. Now, my safe zone is at 6 because 7, is too close to 8 (Haha). If you love flavor, but not spice, you are a 1 - 2 person. If you like to dabble a little, 3 - 5. I truly hope this helps! As for the naan and lamb biryani, I've had this dish from multiple states, including NYC for your hardcore folks out there. THE BEST IS RIGHT HERE. Please Dine In to experience that garlic naan (IMPORTANT). It comes out hot and fresh with the perfect texture and flavor. Taking it to-go (still good) would do your tastebuds a disservice due to the humidity inside the takeout container (if you know, you know). It is truly something special. Now, this Lamb Biryani will hit every single taste bud you have with so much pleasure, you will holler out "MmmMmm". That lamb cuts like butter. This dish comes with two kinds of sauce that are both differently delicious and unique. I throw both on the dish, mixing in the fresh red onion, then squeezing the lemon all over the top. Curry closes mid day as part of their culture so check the hours before you head over. This is a winner people! From the atmosphere, to the plating of each dish, to the music, and service... it's just a WINNER. My recommendation is the Rasila Gobi appetizer, Lamb Biryani entree, with THE BEST GARLIC NAAN ON THE PLANET. I hope you read this review in its entirety, the secret is now out! And you don't wanna miss it. If you love Indian Cuisine and you live 100 miles away, it is definitely worth the drive! 100 percent. Enjoy your new obsession! You're welcome!

Yelp
There are so many Indian restaurants in the Charlotte area and I've seen some of my favorites close down over the years. I had given up hope on finding another but over the weekend I had a serious hankering for Indian grub, did some research and discovered Curry Place. I'm glad I did. I ordered takeout and found the place nestled in a strip mall. Curry Place has an ample amount of seating and very friendly servers and hosts in a nice, comfortable environment. Picked up my food at the bar and off I went. I sampled a bit of everything -- samosas, garlic naan, lamb biryani and goat bhindaloo. Every single item hit. I mean, everything. Bravo to Curry Place -- they have great reviews on here and I can now add mine to a place I plan to continue frequenting.

Yelp
Place is awesome and I never comment. It's asking for 85 characters to post this.....well my son said it's the best Indian he has ever has, enough said.

Yelp
Last week I went on a mini culinary adventure for the hesitant. As the only non-enthusiast of Indian cuisine in my family, I decided to check out this new restaurant because it was too convenient not to. I was pleasantly surprised. I started with the ever-popular Samosa appetizer. Even the most skeptical diners can find joy in that dish. It was so filling, and both of the sauces that came with it were delicious. After reading up on Chicken Biryani, I decided to give it a shot. It's a simple dish. What could possibly go wrong? Good thing I never discovered the answer to that question. Nothing went wrong. The rice was flavorful and the rice had three whole pieces of chicken buried in it. A leg, and I believe two thighs. I didn't try the sauce that came with it. It had a milky appearance so I enjoyed the Biryani without it. I ordered both dishes with a spice level of 3, which was the lowest option and perfect for me. The staff was great as well. I was inside for less than 5 minutes, just long enough to pick up my takeout order. The person who checked me out was courteous and had genuine enthusiasm. Who knows, this experience may have transformed a hesitant Indian cuisine explorer like me into an avid fan. I'll be sure to check this place out again.

Yelp
This place had excellent friendly service. The food was very tasty and the staff was very helpful for this inexperienced diner.

Yelp
Every dish is tremendous...quality, quantity, taste. Our new go-to default destination when we get in those I-don't-know-where-do-you-wanna'-go moods. Something for everyone. Young, old, vegetarian, or the I-eat-everything crowd.

Yelp
Great food the manager/owner? Came by and helped us order some off the beaten path entrees and appetizers.

Yelp
This vegan chana masala is fresh and amazingly delicious! The flavors, portions, heat profile and value is outstanding. I always finish my meal so satisfied. If you are a vegan in the Charlotte area, you would love it.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoy the food here.... Recommend The Tandoori chicken, Samosas, Aloo Gobi, chicken bindaloo, butter curry and the tikka masala!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went to Curry Place on Saturday and it was amazing! Our server Dolly recommended the perfect appetizer and curry for us and the rice, don't get me started. We love how they have a very open yet private floorplan. The smells, the vibe, and the great and very attentive service were what we needed to keep coming back! If you're in Waxhaw/Wesley Chapel and you're looking for some delicious curry at a fair price, check out Curry Place!

Yelp
Ordered a few items for a quick dinner at work and left overs to take home. I got the Chicken Momos, Samosa Chaat, Classic Curry with Chicken and Everest Delight Curry with Chicken. The Momos are little pillows of flavor. Make sure you dunk them in the spicy sauce they come with. I didn't like the Samosa Chaat. I couldn't finish it and ultimately it sat in the fridge til it made its way to the trash. Both of the curries were ok. There was no complaint. The nibblings like them. Overall I would get the Momos again and would try some of the fusion items on their menu. Everest Bistro 9010 Monroe Rd Unit-I Charlotte, NC 28270 (Review 730 overall and 75 in 2022)

Yelp
Yes! Finally an Indian place in my area that is amazing! This place is great. The curry, the texture and taste are fantastic. The service is nice and menu is amazing. I loved my meal! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Excellent chicken momos! I have been looking all over CLT for momos, Tibetan & Nepalese style dumplings. I used to live in NYC & they were essential to a Tibetan restaurant in the Village. Here they were defined as Nepalese food and they tasted delicious! Loved the sauce and the spices, which were flavorful!! I also had the chicken kebob which was crispy and tasty. My friend had the tofu tikka masala and liked it. They were busy so definitely give yourself time to eat & enjoy.

Brandy W.

Yelp
We tried all our favorite dishes - korma, tikka masala, and butter chicken. The chicken was not quite as tender as I would hope. Sauces were good not great. I was very disappointed that the rice was in a Styrofoam boxes. Spice level 5 was too spicy. It tore through one of us. Spice level 3 was good. We are avoiding carbs so we didn't try the naan. If we try it again well try to order without rice / Styrofoam. Really appreciated that you can order extra cauliflower. It is very expensive for what you get. If it wasn't so expensive and served in Styrofoam I'd give a 4.
google avatar

Aaron C.

Yelp
Very good, price is right and the food was better than upscale Indian in Charlotte proper. Great small local place.
google avatar

Natalie P.

Yelp
The only thing stopping me from giving this review a 5 is the fried rice. The chicken fried rice, while huge in portion, lacked in flavor and I found myself trying to put sauce on it to make it enjoyable. I'm pretty sure Nepal is not known for their fried rice, so I partially take the blame here. Now to the GOOD: I came here to place a takeout order. The take out menu is more limited than the in house dining menu which is frustrating but I suppose there is a reason for that. I ordered samosas, curry, and chicken fried rice. The total came to about $40.. a moderately priced lunch meal for 2. The food was ready in about 20 minutes, neatly packaged, and good to go! Service was very friendly. The curry- was excellent. I ordered a 3/10 spicy and it was perfect for me. Big chunks of chicken swam in the savory curry sauce. I ended up pouring left over sauce over the fried rice to soak up all of that curry flavor. Yum!! The samosas, 3 in a serving, were excellent as well. Very hardy with lots of potato filling. The seasoning was wonderful too. My husband enjoyed. All in all, I will certainly go back. I am going to dine in next time!

Yelp
We ordered close to $100 in takeout after seeing such positive reviews. However, it sounds like since this place reopened or is under new ownership, the quality has taken a dip unfortunately. Here's what we got: - mohini chicken: came in a butter chicken sauce and was fine but not impressive. - chicken momo: unbelievably bland and the sauce was so watered down - chicken tikka kebab: very dry and bland. No sauce accompaniment - samosa: it was good, nothing special though. The chutney was watered down. - garlic naan: it was good and what you can expect - lamb bhindaloo: I enjoyed this one! The lamb was tender and the curry was flavorful and spicy. I hope they improve because I would love to give them another shot in the future!

Yelp
If you're looking for Nepali food in Charlotte, it's not easy to find, which is how we ended up here. We went with friends and shared: - Samosa Chaat - Mango Chana Chaat - Veg Momos - Lamb Sekuwa - Khasi ko Masu - Gaeng Garee (paneer) - Hariyo Khorsani (chicken) - Garlic Bread My favorite dishes were the Momos and Khasi ko Masu. The goat was very tender and the sauce was flavorful. My next favorite dishes were the Mango Chana Chaat and Gaeng Garee. They gave enough seating for 4 people total outside which we were happy to take. If you're looking for Nepali food in Charlotte, check this spot out.

Yelp
Great spot. New and underrated in my opinion, hands down the "best Nepali option in town." Owned by the same wonderful people that own "Royal Biryani" down the road. The quality is definitely hard to rival in the curry sector. Great for people who love a culinary and tasteful adventure, especially if you can appreciate spice!

Dave D.

Yelp
Good Indian, had garlic naan and chicken saag. Will return and try other entree's. Ordered take out order was ready on time.

Yelp
A great Indian place - I always like a well cooked seasoned curry and this place hits the spot - Food was in point and service was great.

Yelp
Guess they reopened in Wesley chapel ..! Awesome can't wait to try ALL the dishes ..!

Yelp
The food was delicious and fresh. Looking forward to going back and upping my spice level and trying other curries. On a scale of 1-10 I started at a 3 and it was yummy but mild. I was intimidated since it was our first time at Everest. Next time I think I would up it to a 5. The samosa chaat was unbelievable. I find some restaurants' samosa dough is too thick and at Everest it was thinner and I loved that. Charlotte is lucky to have this gem, I couldn't help but think this would be a place Anthony Bourdain would give his stamp of approval.
google avatar

Yelp
FANTASTIC! I had the Samosa Chaat and Goat Curry heat level 5. It was WONDERFUL! The food is authentic, flavorful and the portions are generous. Rupak served me, an extremely polite young Christian man who made me feel at home from the second I walked in the door. DO NOT be afraid of stepping out of your common food comfort zone, Rupak will walk you through each and every item. Patronize this local family owned business. You won't be sorry!

Yelp
We've had Curry Place numerous times since moving to the area and it has been 5/5 stars every time, without fail. It's just so good. We've dined in once and the server was ultra-attentive. Every other time we've taken it to go, and the food has been piping hot, packaged with care, and always delicious. Especially love the malai kofta and, of course, the tikka masala.

Yelp
This restaurant came through in the clutch one Saturday evening as we were out and in need of food. I saw the great reviews on yelp and although the pictures didn't look like anything special I figured I couldn't go wrong. So I placed my order and arrived at the restaurant a little early so I did have to wait, but the staff was really nice. They also had this amazing wine rack that I wanted! I inquired about it and the guy who worked there told me that they plan to put wine in it soon, oh well. Not for sale! My food was nice and hot when I received it and I ate some of it in the car, it was really good. I ordered a shrimp curry dish and chicken momo. When I ordered the momo, I thought I was ordering samosas, so I was disappointed, but that was my bad. Had a great experience and I would return if I'm ever in the area again.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
The dishes are flavor explosions! The Butter Curry Chicken is my favorite but I'm determined to try them all. The garlic naan is soft with just the right amount of garlic. The chicken momos are a must if you love a stuffed dumpling filled with goodness! The staff is always attentive and kind. I have heard them go out of their way to explain dishes to customers new to Indian dining. Curry Place is our new go to restaurant and is a must try if you haven't yet indulged in Indian cuisine.

Priyah K.

Yelp
This restaurant was great for takeout! The owner/staff were so kind and generous, offering the kids in our group a taste of mango lassi on the house. We loved the chana masala and dal. We look forward to coming back!

Yelp
Wow . Really good Tikka Masala, Mulligatawny Soup and Samosas. Very nice presentation, well done. Will definitely come back! Love the custom spice level on the curry. Thank you Curry Place!

Yelp
Food was absolutely delicious. I love Indian food and this is by far my favorite Indian restaurant ever. Its their second day of operation and they knocked it out of the park with each meal they brought. My son even got mango lasi free of charge. I cant wait to come back with my husband and try some more dishes.

Yelp
If I am dining with Jacqueline and Anthony can I just cut and paste what we ate? We went with friends and shared: - Samosa Chaat - Mango Chana Chaat - Veg Momos - Lamb Sekuwa - Khasi ko Masu - Gaeng Garee (paneer) - Hariyo Khorsani (chicken) - Garlic Bread Can I write ditto on their reviews? On my first visit, I tried the chai, it was so good, that I went back the next morning and had another one! On a subsequent visit, we went in for chai and it smelled so delicious, we had to order a snack, so we ordered samosas, then as we looked at the menu more we ordered gobi manchurian, even though it is called something different. I just looked it up. Cauli Furaula. As I was looking it up, the menu is so expansive and there are so many things I want to try! Super nice staff that are readily available to answer all your questions. Go!
google avatar

Mi L.

Yelp
Best Indian Foods I have ever tasted. My goat Bryani rice was delicious. My son love grill Chicken. Only one thing to recommend to the restaurant that they should turn on Air Conditioning. The dinning area has a kind of hot and too much kitchen smell. After I get home I have to wash all my clothing due to smell from the kitchen. Absolutely delicious foods and friendly waiters. Thank you for all your hospitality.
google avatar

Yelp
If you like Nepali and Thai cuisines, you will Love this place!!! And I'm not taking away a star for their use of styrofoam containers and plastic, as the Bistro (which it does have a nice Bistro feel with tables inside and out) doesn't use inside the restaurant. The workers were friendly, accommodating my questions about Everything. Ended up trying $7 Sabji Furaula and $13 Pad Thai which I would happily eat again!
google avatar

Yelp
We really enjoyed our meal at Curry Place. We ordered the samosa and cauliflower appetizers. Both were delicious, hot and fresh. The main courses were equally as good! Authentic, flavorful, and fresh. We are so excited to find our neighborhood Indian restaurant and can't wait to come back soon. Dolly was our server and she was wonderful.
google avatar

Havier H.

Yelp
It looks good. Looks like it would feed 2 people. But I can't get over the smell! It smells terrible AND it tastes terrible ! Worst pad Thai I have ever had It has a funny taste. And idk if the bean sprouts are bad but they are killing this dish. Smells like a chemical.

Yelp
This place just recently opened about 3 weeks ago in wesley Chapel. There is plenty of inside seating as the place is fairly big. The service was great and the wait staff are super helpful with suggestions.hibs had chicken Shai korma, which he felt was less savory than he's used to and I had paneer Mattar and it was loaded with paneer and really good. The Naan bread is super crunchy and delish as well. Will definitely try this place again.

Carolina A.

Yelp
It was my first time having Indian cuisine. I asked the host/waiter for recommendations and so I went with butter tofu curry and lamb tikka masala. Also ordered butter garlic naan and cheese naan. My favorite was the lamb tikka masala. The butter tofu was good but I just think I'm not a fan of tofu. The cheese naan delicious! Wanted more! For dessert we got Ras Malai and let me tell you, it was not enough. Then again, I shared one serving with my two friends lol. Overall, the service was good, did have trouble communicating a bit. The only thing I would change is to have A/C in the place for comfort.

Christine A.

Yelp
Just can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant! Bippi was our very kind server. The fried cauliflower appetizer and garlic naan were fabulous...but the butter chicken and basmati rice are our favorite! Wanted to get every drop out of the bowl! Excellent experience...will return again for sure, but not soon enough! Missed seeing Dolly, our previous server. Thank you for helping our tastebuds explode!

Yelp
I've been looking for a good Indian food restaurant and this place is IT! I placed an order online. The ordering system was simple and easy to use. I ordered samosa (two large pieces come in one order), chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. The meal was a bit pricey - $42 including a tip; however, it was excellent quality and there was enough for at least 2-3 people to share (or leftovers if you're just one person). I do not mind paying more when the food and quality are great. The pickup experience was easy as well. The restaurant seemed clean and nice, with a good outdoor space for dining when the weather is nice. I will definitely be returning to Curry Place!

Tracy R.

Yelp
Disappointing..... For almost $70, you too can walk away disappointed. Below is part of a takeout order. To say that the food is mid would be giving it credit. My takeout order was as follows: I should have recognized when I couldn't order a simple dish like Chicken Biriyani at a spice level other than what is specified. I ordered two dishes of Chicken Biriyani and they were not very good. There dishes lacked spices. The picture below is the shrimp tikki kebab. Words cannot express the disappointment. I am going to stop this review because just like the food, it's not going to get any better. If this is a restaurant that closed, I am wondering why it reopened.

Yelp
I have tried a few popular Indian restaurants in Charlotte and this one is definitely good. I have tried it twice via takeout and quality was the same. The food is good but is a little expensive. I wouldn't come here every week but it is definitely a place I will try again.
