This is my 2nd visit to Cutlass Grill. The very first time was in their old location across from CRMC, probably just after the opened. The meals did not excite me at all. So I just never went back. This visit is at their new location on Eden Way. This location was the old Surf Rider. We were greeted very casually, not really an issue. We were taken quickly to our table behind the bar center of the restaurant. I noticed boothes behind me against the wall. They offer a private dining experience. As I arrived home to eat our takeout, I was more than surprised to find NO RICE AND PEAS with the Oxtails. I overlooked the fact that rice n peas ARE a SIDE! OK, yes, my bad, however, what restaurant... Caribbean restaurant serves rice n' peas as a SIDE DISH! I chose cabbage, without any seasoning as the side. Unfortunately, our waitress didn't even take the time to mention it. As I think about it. Do the owners of Cutlass eat any curry, gravy meal, or any dinner without rice. This is what gravy is for, or some sort of roti.
Jamaica was my home shortly after visiting inlaws and deciding to extend our stay to raise my oldest child with family. Our helper and MIL taught me the art of Jamaican cuisine. There was always starch with meals. So with that, I am SHM at Cutlass Grille. Oxtail with just can lima beans, no pimento spice, no habanero pepper, no carrots. Floury bland brown gravy with tough meat. With rice, I'm sure, would have not even made a difference. Hubby's Snapper was cooked and maybe dropped in grease to fry again, so it was really hard. The Escovitch seasoning with just white vinegar. He said the collards were ok. Still no rice.
So much for our Sunday dinner. Shame on me for not preparing my own as usual anyway.
