"Looking for dim sum at 7pm on a Tuesday? An epic banquet for 20 for Sunday lunch? Consistently spectacular take-out for one on your couch? All of these things can be yours at this Logan Circle stalwart, where you’ll find over 400 dishes served seven days a week. Come with a crowd and see how much of the menu you can eat through. Standouts include braised e-fu noodles with mushrooms, yu choi sautéed with enough garlic to cure whatever ails you, and whichever dumplings catch your eye—they’re all good." - Allison Robicelli

Google
Pretty good dim sum, although I liked some dishes more than others. I was a fan of the spring rolls, shumai dumplings, and soup dumplings, but I didn’t really enjoy the pork buns. The prices are also pretty good. It’s about $5-8 per dim sum item. The service was also pretty quick too.

Google
Da Hong Pao is hands down one of the best Chinese restaurants in DC, especially if you’re craving authentic dim sum. The variety is impressive—everything from sio mai and hacao to lotus leaf sticky rice, all served fresh and steaming. On top of the dimsum, they have a wide variety of food items to explore, and its amazing! The staff is efficient and polite, even during busy hours. The dining room is spacious and clean, with a traditional vibe that adds to the experience. Perfect for group brunches or family meals. Don’t skip the egg tarts—they’re phenomenal!

Google
Large menu that is almost overwhelming. We made the mistake of ordering appetizers and mains together. It was all served at the same time. Some mains were cold by the time we finished the appetizers. Service was ok

Google
I recently visited Da Hong Pao and ordered the vegetable lo mein, spring rolls, and chicken dumplings. Overall, the food was average and not particularly memorable. The vegetarian options on the menu also seemed quite limited, which was disappointing. Although the restaurant offers dim sum, we did not try it during our visit. Based on this experience, I would not plan to return.

Google
I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but I felt the need to share my experience. The food was just okay – nothing special, but edible. However, the service was extremely disappointing. One of the staff members accidentally splashed food on my shirt, and when I tried to get their attention (I called out four times), they completely ignored me. Accidents can happen, and I understand that. But the lack of acknowledgment or any attempt to apologize was unacceptable. Customer service is just as important as the food, and unfortunately, this place failed in that aspect. Would I return? Probably not.

Google
Had high expectations based on the reviews but it was mediocre. Came here for the peking duck but it was ok not the best. Dim sum were premade and warmed per request so it was kinda cold and not fresh.

J C

Google
Food was awesome, it was all good. Ordered a lot and our favorite is the Peking duck. Service was super fast, I thought Barry Allen worked there. Place is really easy to get to and ambiance, is … just like any other restaurants BUT we didn’t go there for the ambiance.

Google
Highly rated on yelp. Egg rolls were ok, fried chicken dumplings were tough and chewy and veg lo main noodles not much flavor. Glad we tried wouldn't go back.

Acantha H.

Yelp
The dim sum here is truly authentic, tasting just like that I enjoyed in Hong Kong. It's a budget-friendly option with a clean and inviting atmosphere, though it can get crowded during peak hours.

Yelp
This is my go-to dim sum place when I'm taking out family, friends, and business colleagues in DC. I have tried most of the items in the dim sum menu and they're great. Being a very small eater, dim sum is perfect for me. And Da Hong Pao does not disappoint. To be honest, their main menu is also great, but in my opinion way overpriced. There is no fried rice dish worth $28 (unless we're looking at lobster or abalone). So four stars not five, if only because the cost of the main dishes. We're moving from DC to Florida in a month. So this was my last visit. I'll miss Da Hong Pao!
google avatar

Yelp
The service and food were average. The price was also just average, not expensive but also not a cheap eat. I was just visiting, so will not be going back.

Yelp
This clean, spacious restaurant is on a busy street. Parking is difficult, but we found a spot a couple of blocks away on a Sunday. Its location is convenient to public transportation. Service is fast and done with a smile. We had four people and ordered about a dozen dim sum items from a sheet. The skin on the veggie dumplings was a bit thick. The steamed ribs were succulent. The crust on the custard tarts (Dan Tat) was not up to par, neither was the breading on the steamed pork buns (too thick). The siu mai (shrimp and pork) dumplings were good. The pork wrapped in bean curd skin also was very good. The Malaysian sponge cake was new for us, and we liked it. The sticky rice needed some sausage and some more meat, but it was a favorite. Everything else was about average. Lunch for four with tax and tip was $116.

Yelp
This is the best Chinese restaurant in DC, and it serves excellent Dim Sum! Everyone at our party enjoyed our food and was pleased with Mr. Simon's positive and friendly service! Everyone needs to give this local business a try and you will not regret it.

Yelp
My friends and I wanted dim sum before exploring the Washington D.C. area. We chose this place because it's very close to the Washington Monuments. When we arrived on a Saturday morning, we were concerned it might be crowded and there would be a wait, but that wasn't the case. Instead of traditional dim sum carts, they use a piece of paper where you write down which dim sum items you want. My friends and I ordered a variety of dim sum items, and they were all excellent. I would definitely recommend this place if you're craving dim sum and planning to visit/tour various areas in Washington D.C.
google avatar

Yelp
They've got the head on shell on Hong Kong style giant prawns (避風塘炒蝦) which is just great. I had their Hong Kong style crab last time but I guess June isn't the season. Also got half a Peking duck, very nice (bone in). Ordered for self pick up on their app called MealKeyWay. Food was ready and well packed very fast! Nice ambiance inside (not loud). See my photo.

Yelp
4/11/24 Had to have Dim Sum while in DC It was like the old dim sum places in NYC! Turns out it's because most of the staff is from NYC, hehehe Tripe Never had it this way. It's good Chicken Feet The only complaint is that they were cut in half, so more bone fragments. But taste great. Sticky Rice It needed more meat but was good Shrimp Roll Ah, memories of my childhood in NY Chinatown Eggplant Stuffed with Shrimp This is good Crispy Pork So crispy! Delicious Roast Duck This skin was crispy been forever since I've had crispy skin on the duck Salt and Pepper Squid Usually avoid ordering this because it's usually gummy. But this was delicious Definitely come back next time we're in DC

Yelp
Food was decent, but pricey for what it was. My ratings of what I tried: - Shumai: 5/5. Good flavor and size - Peking duck: 4/5: Good flavor & tenderness - Soup dumplings: 2.5/5: Had very little soup in them, and weren't too flavorful. - Bok Choi & Oyster Mushroom: flavors as expected, but it was tricky to eat because the bok choi & mushrooms were so large. We asked if they could cut them, but they said the best they could do was bring us out dinner knives, which didn't cut too well. I likely wouldn't return, but it does the job if you're craving dim sum.

Yelp
**13-person party review** When our large group rolled in for dinner, they were very accommodating. The restaurant was already very full on a Friday night, but luckily we got one of the big tables. They brought over more seats, plates, and utensils for us as we settled in. Throughout the meal, the service was great. We had one round of dishes and they happily took another order for our second. The food was good. If you want a range of Cantonese food and dim sum (all day!) in this area, this is a decent option. From the fried rice to the chow fun to the salt and pepper squid, they did my favorites well. It's great to see so people sitting inside, carrying away takeout, and supporting this business. This visit was my first since before the pandemic, so I'm glad it has stuck around and is still so popular.

Yelp
I really love a good dim sum feast. Always looking for a new place to try. I was going to Han Palace until I saw the reviews for Da Hong and switched. The restaurant is the typical dim sum layout- plenty of round tables. No cart service, though. Per usual, the hostess sat me in the back. Ughh. I got my usual test items. Har gow, shrimp rolls, ribs with black beans, egg tarts, stuffed bean curd, shrimp stuffed eggplant and shu mai. Some items tasted old like the bean curd and eggplant. All the shrimp dishes tasted the same. Ribs were fatty with gristle. I didn't finish even though I expected to take some home.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a rainy evening and it hit the spot. My friend and I split a lot of the dishes- the wonton soup, shrimp steamed dumplings, chicken chow fun, and the sesame balls for dessert. Everything was pretty good, I liked the amount of bean sprouts in the chicken chow fun and the sesame balls were delicious! The waitress we had was great, she answered all our questions and provided us with some great recommendations. My only complaint is that it seemed like there were more options for lunch and not as much for dinner. For example, we tried to order the Chinese broccoli for a side but since we came for dinner, only the larger dinner portion could be served. Overall- a pretty solid place that hit the spot and satisfied our dim sum craving.

Yelp
Good option for dim sum in DC. They have large tables so it's a good option for family get togethers. All the food I tried was really good but my favorite was the shumai. The duck had good flavor but there wasn't much edible meat since a lot of it was bone. I'd definitely come back again and try other items on their menu.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food! Such a huge menu, great service, spacious ambiance and affordable items. Great casual dining experience we could afford in DC
google avatar

Dorothy B.

Yelp
very spacious and clean. service was quick. a lot of the food was just okay. the best dish we had was the lamb noodles. lamb was juicy and noodles were cooked perfectly. we had the wonton soup but the wonton wrapping was extremely thick. roast duck was pretty salty but juicy. all the rice rolls were overcooked and mushy and were falling apart whenever we picked them up. everything else was fine - nothing to write home about.
google avatar

Yin Y.

Yelp
Craving for Dim Sum in the evening? No problem. Authentic Cantonese dishes from casseroles to roast duck to egg tarts, the huge menu can satisfy your appetite. Service was always fast even when the place was packed. Wish they had a private dining room for parties. Overall, if you live in DC, you would not want to miss this gem on 14th Street.

Yelp
Staying at the Washington Plaza Hotel Da Hong Pao was a short walk to the restaurant. The full glass exterior is very inviting and when we visited on a Thursday night for dinner, the restaurant was packed full of patrons. We did not have a reservation (not sure they take them) but were able to get a nice table. The selections for Dim Sum and/or Dinner are very good. We found our selections to be served as expected; hot, fresh and timely. Service was courteous and expedient and we found our food choices delicious. I enjoyed the shrimp and pork, noodle soups are very good, and chicken was very good as well. All very fresh. Recommended for those who appreciate well prepared and authentic Hong Kong style Chinese food. We liked it so much we went back for lunch and are going again for dinner.

Yelp
Looking for the real-deal? This is it. Mom and pop handling business at this place. Service, food, all legit. Local joint that is on point. I can't recommend a single dish bc my table was full of all sorts of things...soups, crispy duck, soy chicken, fried rice (don't judge me), etc. The dim sum was awesome and the menu photos assured my expectations. The traditional menu was huge and included everything you could possibly imagine and some things you can't, like jelly fish. If you want some local Chinatown deliciousness, get over there.
google avatar

Yelp
Da Hong Pao is a spacious Chinese dim sum restaurant - one of the very few you can find in DC. I would recommend going to dim sum with a group to try out all the different dishes. Price-wise the dishes can really add up but when split amongst a group it makes for an affordable, delicious, and filling meal. The dim sum menu comes with images so you know what you're ordering. My group and I had the various dishes like turnip cake, ha gow, siu mai, egg tart, fried shrimp ball and salt and pepper squid. All of which were really delicious. I would consider the salt and pepper squid to be a standout - it was really crispy and well-seasoned. There didn't seem to be any dim sum carts going around, all of our dishes were delivered to the table. Service is really fast and the food was all served warm/hot. The restaurant was really busy around noon/brunch time on Sunday, so I'd advise getting to the restaurant a bit early to avoid the wait.
google avatar

Amanda Y.

Yelp
solid dim sum actually in the city so that's a win. Came on the Sunday morning and wasn't crazy busy but had a good group going was able to get seated immediately for two people had some of the classics as well as some stirfry noodles. would definitely come back with a bigger group next time.
google avatar

Yelp
This is DC's jewel when it comes to authentic Cantonese Chinese food. Definitely recommend the following dishes: (1) Snow pea leaves with garlic; (2) Bitter melon with beef and black beans; (3) Salt and pepper shrimp without shells; and (4) Eggplant casserole with salted fish and chicken. Literally, they have the best Bitter Melon with Beef and Black Beans ever. If you're a fan, definitely will be your favorite new place for this dish.

Bernard B.

Yelp
Food was okay. If it weren't for a gentleman that appeared to be the owner, service would be a 1. If you're in the mood for dim sum that will satisfy a low level craving then give it a shot. But you're not going to be wowed.
google avatar

Benny D.

Yelp
The dim sum is pretty standard and it his the spot. I had a bunch of things here and I recommend that you try as much as possible too. The only item that was disappointing was the crispy pork belly.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Had dinner date and the food was really good. Things are a bit on the pricy side, I suppose (the fish we got was 60$ but was delicious). It's always crowded here, and their dim sum is pretty good, too. They have quite a bit of casserole style dishes, too, if you like those.
google avatar

Dani A.

Yelp
I've had my eye on this place for a long while, and today we finally made it! We started with the dim sum and I was very pleased with the chicken feet. They were savory and soft. The sticky rice was excellent and soup dumplings were okay (not pictured). My primary complaint was that they were kinda dry on the outside as if they had been sitting around a while. The shrimp stuffed eggplant came out of the fryer like liquid hot magma! But was so dang good, especially with the slightly spicy chicken feet sauce. By this time I was pretty full but my wife had only eaten soup dumplings so she ordered our favorite vegetable, sautéed pea shoots and then crispy beef. We loved the pea shoots, but I couldn't eat much. The crispy beef was too sweet for me, however she liked it. We finished with our favorite egg custard buns and then I decided I had to try the egg tarts. The buns were too sweet for me, but she loved them. Where's the tarts tasted surprisingly like scrambled eggs with a glazed top and I actually liked it because it was barely sweetened. Overall, service was fast and responsive. They checked on us frequently and continued being responsive even after a huge party of more than 30 trickled in. Their menu is massive. I recommend starting with some dim sum (dumplings) since they're fast and delicious appetizers and you'll need time to dig through the main menu.
google avatar

Franco D.

Yelp
Delicious and the food was made to order. I had it for my birthday dinner and it was great. Will go back the next time I'm at the beach.
google avatar

Bruce K.

Yelp
Food was really bad. All dishes are precooked and some of them are wrecked. Never try this shit!
google avatar

Chun L.

Yelp
Service is good but food is really bad. Chicken feet looks like they just soak it in some chemical. Will not come back again because of the food.
google avatar

Clara S.

Yelp
Came here for dimsum. The dimsum was honestly so so-- xiaolongbao was eh and the pork buns were too bready. Service was good and ambiance was casual-- good to come with friends and family.
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
Waddle we order? The duck of course. On top of their good renditions of traditional dim sum offering, their Peking (and roasted) duck shined. It's also priced at good value - well recommended.
google avatar

Danan F.

Yelp
Big beautiful doors as you walk in, you walk into kind hostess who sat our party of 5 very promptly. Food was great, the steam pork buns could have been better. But fast service. Everything else was really good.
google avatar

Thuy Lan N.

Yelp
Came on a Saturday morning and was seated without a wait which was great! This spot will fill a craving, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite dim sum I've ever had. They do have a little window in the back of the restaurant with display Chinese bbq- roast duck, chicken and pork which is great to get in the city. My spouse and I got a little variety- roast pork buns, soup dumplings, rice rolls, salt and pepper squid, sticky rice. It was okay but not stellar. The soup dumplings were not house-made as you can tell by the tops. It was decent if you want dim sum in the city walkable to some other fun things to do in the neighborhood, but if you want the dim sum cart experience this isn't the spot! You order on a paper menu and they bring out to you.
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
I was impressed! They have a huge menu, and we know I love a huge menu. There are so many types of meats and ingredients on their menu!!! They have a lot of less commonly found dishes, and also a lot of more comment American Chinese dishes. I really liked the food. I loved the Peking duck. I loved all the dumplings. I loved the vegetables. I loved the pastries. All very flavorful!!! The one thing I did not love was the fried rice. It just wasn't very fried. It was like they took white rice and added vegetables and didn't cook it any more after that. But everything else was good enough to keep it at 5 stars. Also, the service is fine! The ambiance is fine!
google avatar

Jillian M.

Yelp
Was on the hunt for an authentic Chinese dim sum place and this did not disappoint! Everything about it was authentic, the decor, the servers, etc. the food was phenomenal and the service was fast. Definitely one if my favorite dim sum places in DC
google avatar

Sumi K.

Yelp
Dim sum and Chinese at Washington DC The restaurants was very busy for dim sum noon on Christmas day. We waited about 30 minutes for our table. As soon as we checked all the dim sums on the paper menu with pictures of dim sum, the food came out very quickly. Our favorites were sticky rice, steamed shrimp chive dumpling, shrimp crepe, pork spare ribs and egg custards. The dim sums are salter than I am used to but still tasted good.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Haven't been back to DHP for a while now and the other day happened to walk by it around noon on a Sunday and decided to make an unplanned dim sum lunch stop. Good to see it's still popular, with quite a few people outside waiting for a table. the wait turned out to be only 15 minutes or so and we were seated. They don't seem to do pushcart service anymore but you can order from a dim sum menu complete with nice photos of all the dishes. We had our usual, shrimp dumplings, chives dumplings, turnip cake, green vegetables etc, altogether 6 dishes which was just right for two people (for about $42 before tip with no drinks). Food is delicious although the portions are not big as the dim sum items are all delicately small in size, which is not a bad thing although prices are a bit higher than similar dim sum restaurants in MD or VA. But they have the best location and this is the only dim sum place in central DC and easily accessible without a car.
google avatar

Jackie P.

Yelp
After a long dry dim sum spell, we trekked to Da Hong Pao after reading its glowing reviews. It hit the spot! Although I prefer going with a larger size group, this time we had a party of 2 and yet were still able to try a tasty variety. The dim sum plus the normal food menu was available, though we stuck to our dim sum dreams. Each dim sum item has a picture on the menu so you know exactly what you are getting, very helpful. We arrived shortly after the restaurant opened on Sunday morning at 10am which was the right move because by 11am, all the seats were full. Everything we ate was excellent and can't wait to go back and try more! I'm eyeing the shrimp!

Daryl T.

Yelp
Dim sum is subpar (my theory is factory manufactured and steamed to perceive is fresh ) The prices are higher that most dim sum places in larger cities . Service is mediocre
google avatar

Michael A.

Yelp
A pretty decent Chinese Dim Sum restaurant. Kinda pricey, but it was worth a try for our first time. We had 5 people in our party, ordered a couple of Shumais, Shrimp Dumplings, Pork Buns, Pineapple Buns, Spare Ribs, Steamed Shrimp, Fish, Chicken Feet, Chinese Broccoli, Sticky Rice, Beef Noodles, Pork Belly, Pan Fried Chicken noodles, and Custard Buns. Service was excellent! Got refills of water every time it was half empty. Hot sauce was good with the Shumai and Pork Belly. Taste-wise, quality could have been better. Liked the great service, seasoning was kind of lacking, parking was a hassle since you had to drive around to find a random street parking space. Ambiance of the restaurant was a bit loud for the most part since it was pretty packed. But overall, a very good one in D.C.
google avatar

Paolo B.

Yelp
I came to explore Washington DC with an empty stomach searching for exotic asian cuisine superior to the ones in my hometown of St. Louis. I find this spot while touring around and saw many Chinese people inside eating which maybe a clue to it's authenticity. Behold, I'm not mistaken because their Peking Duck is to die for, so crispy thin skin with succulent meat already deboned to be paired with soft buns. Their dim sum included the siomai is bouncy and dances inside your mouth.
google avatar

Arun L.

Yelp
My recent visit was unfortunately marred by a series of disappointments that left a lasting negative impression. The foremost issue was the quality of the food, which was notably subpar. The chicken dish, in particular, stood out for being uncooked and strangely cold, as if it had been hastily reheated without proper attention to culinary standards. This not only compromised the taste but also raised concerns about food safety. In addition to the culinary letdown, the customer experience was equally disappointing. Unfortunately, the service lacked attentiveness and displayed a noticeable indifference towards the customers, intensifying the overall dissatisfaction with the dining experience. The establishment's failure to uphold basic culinary standards and provide a satisfactory customer experience makes it challenging to recommend to others.
google avatar

Leon A.

Yelp
All Sim Sums are good beside the 炸兩? 好明顯就係喺出邊買返嚟再返叮。 又硬,又不香口。 個乾炒牛河,唔係新鮮炒出嚟。油淋淋。 最唔鍾意老闆娘話,每日買好多份炸兩就剩係得呢份唔好食。
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
It's hard to find a decent dim sum, but Da Hong Pao delivered. It is in downtown DC, so expect DC prices and, even worse, DC parking; but it is worth the visit. We came in near opening, 11-ish, and were able to he seated right away. As the Sunday lunch rush started pouring in, there was a line out the door by 12. The restaurant was pretty clean. The service was great with ordering and getting food, but drink refills were hit or miss. The food is the selling point though. Will come back again when I get the courage to drive into the city again.
google avatar

Katie W.

Yelp
Da Hong Pao is incredible for takeout as well as for dine in dinner and dim sum! They have great, quick service. The establishment seriously radiates deliciousness throughout the whole block. The best Chinese restaurant in the Logan Circle area!! This is our go to spot for a quick takeout meal as the dumplings can't be beat!

Yelp
I'm from the west coast and ever since moving here I have been dying for real, delicious dim sum. This is the place to come. There's generally not a wait from my few experiences. They have a regular menu that's massive and a decent size dim sum menu. The price is fair and food is always fresh/hot. Service is always efficient and food comes out quickly. The ambiance is pleasant with a lot of families and clean decor. Restaurant itself is modern. Parking is a bit tough at times, so we tend to park in the neighborhood and walk to the restaurant usually under a half mile. Their chili oil is fairly spicy but I love spice. If you're not used to at least a 6/10 spice level, I would be careful. Things we have tried: Bbq steamed buns Spare ribs in garlic sauce Beef chow fun noodles Soup dumplings Shumai Chicken feet Shrimp and pork dumplings Fried rice w/ shrimp and chicken Roast duck All are great and we will try the other menu items next.
google avatar

Justin N.

Yelp
Da Hong Pao isn't the best dim sum I've ever had, but it hits the spot and is super convenient for me to get my dim sum fix. The inside of the restaurant is clean and spacious. My favorite dishes that I tried were the shrimp crepes, shrimp balls, siu mai, and sticky rice in banana leaf. The har gow skin was a little starchy and dry which was disappointing for a dish that is a dim sum classic. As they say in my household, you dim sum you lose some.
google avatar

Jinny Y.

Yelp
Great location and I will always rate dim sum highly. Unfortunately some of my favorites like the chicken feet were a bit underpeforming for my taste. The ambiance and great service definitely made up for it though!
google avatar

Kyle L.

Yelp
My friend and I tried Da Hong Pao for their Dimsum! I love Dimsum, but it's hard to find really good places that have reasonable wait times! I miss the places that have carts, but I've found that most Dimsum places got rid of carts post Covid. Da Hong Pao has a decent variety of dim sum options. My friend and I ordered their turnip cake, beef noddles, eggplant dish, shrimp dumplings, chive dumplings, shrimp shumai, beef with rice noddle, and soup dumplings! First, I was a little surprised their soup dumplings were $9 for just 4 of them...they were okay but I would have liked to pay less or get more for $9. Other than that, all their dim sum dishes were standard. Some came out a little colder than others, but it was a decent experience overall.

I was so excited to try this place when I was in DC based on all of the amazing reviews here on Yelp. The food was just meh... there wasn't one thing that was terrible or one thing that was amazing either. The har gow wrappers definitely could have been better. That's one of the first things I look for to help determine the quality of dim sum. I will say all of the employees were wonderful and service was great. We were greeted up entering, seated right away, and took our order as soon as we were ready.
