The Best Things We Ate This Week

"Green Curry Lung Yai will probably always be one of the more difficult tables to get in Miami. But the great Thai restaurant recently opened up a new spot called Daek in Midtown. It’s far easier to get a table and has a really similar menu. We checked it out this week and ordered the green curry, which tasted pretty indecipherable from the version at Lung Yai. So hit this place up the next time you’re short on time and craving great Thai food." - ryan pfeffer, carlos c olaechea

Google
Medium size Thai restaurant in midtown with a very standard Thai menu. Overall the food was well prepared and had good ingredients. The Pad Kee Mao was good and had very good fresh veggies, and the Duck Basil had good flavor, although some pieces were more like jerky while some were tender. The Thai Basil with egg was good but a very small portion of food relative to the rice. The music was too loud and service was good albeit a bit awkward.

Google
Update 12/26/24: Still fantastic as ever. So many places have either a strong front of house or back of house. Few have both. Pair that with a charming restaurant and you have a fantastic experience. The food is delicious and visually inviting. The front staff are courteous and attentive. They all look out for details across all tables to offer guests a seamless experience.

Google
my recent order was completely unsatisfactory. I ordered Pad Thai, but what I received was plain noodles with dry chicken—there was no Pad Thai sauce. The dish was bland and tasteless. It seemed like an incomplete or incorrect order, and it did not meet the basic expectations of what was advertised.

Google
This is a tough review because the food was good but not the flavors of authentic Thai food that we love. From the start, the atmosphere is beautiful and service is excellent. Prices are your standard Miami/Wynwood high. The menu is super small but it was actually nice and easy to make decisions (although they have multiple links for their online menu so it's a little confusing). We tried the drunken noodles, fried rice, hot and sour soup, dumplings, and Thai Donuts. Overall all the dishes didn't have the strong flavor and spices we're used to in Thai cuisine. The hot and sour soup was very bland, the fried rice barely had any flavor, and the drunken noodles were more flavorful but not amazing. We really enjoyed the donuts because they were fresh, soft, and sweet with condensed milk. Overall, it's a good spot for dinner but not a great spot for Thai.

Google
So I couldn’t wait to try this place saw it while walking. Came back for dinner. The vibe is cute the staff is quick and they have the cutest little set up. However looking at the menu alot of it can not remove egg item which If you have allergies to egg or an intolerance or just don’t eat it you have no choice to remove it.

Google
Awesome food, very well-priced, and large portions. The service staff was attentive and courteous. I would definitely visit again.

Google
For a Thai Restaurant, the menu didn't have too much variety and was one of the shortest I've ever seen. Don't get me wrong, the food was good and the serving size was on point, but this is not a place I'd make time for unless I live or find myself in the area. The interior was very minimalist, devoid of any decor, with concrete walls/floors and metallic accents. Service was prompt and always checking on you.

Yelp
Downloaded Yelp to give my first review because the food at the Daek is some of the best I've ever had. Service was very attentive and had us feeling very welcome. If you're visiting Miami this is a "not miss". Go go go go go.

Yelp
Amazing food every time! Daek in Midtown Miami is a gem for Thai cuisine lovers. They offer a fusion of Thai tapas and sushi, which is great to satisfy more than one craving when my partner wants sushi but I'm craving a yummy duck salad ;). The authenticity of flavors is 5 stars for me! The duck salad is a standout, can't go wrong with the papaya salad either. Their curry dishes are a must-try, rich and aromatic. The seating ambiance is nice too, and the service is consistently swift and accommodating. A go-to spot for satisfying Thai cravings in Miami!

Yelp
Date night at Daek! We enjoyed a lovely dinner for two at one of our new favorite Thai restaurants-- pork dumplings, salmon poke bowls, and my favorite, green curry. All were super delicious, fresh, and had just the right amount of spice! The staff were very sweet and attentive. Cozy little restaurant with indoor and some outdoor seating. Good deals on wine and beer too!

Yelp
My recent dinner experience at Daek left a lasting impression, and I'm eager to share my positive review. The ambiance of the restaurant exudes a relaxed and casual vibe, perfect for unwinding after a long day. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the friendly staff, adding to the overall pleasant atmosphere. When it came to the food, Daek truly delivered. I opted for the pad Thai, and I must say it exceeded my expectations. Each bite was bursting with flavor, showcasing the chef's skillful mastery of Thai cuisine. The dish was solid in every aspect, from the perfectly cooked noodles to the harmonious blend of spices and ingredients. Throughout my meal, the staff remained attentive and accommodating, ensuring that my dining experience was nothing short of delightful. Their friendly demeanor added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. In summary, Daek offers a winning combination of great taste, flavor, and friendly service. Whether you're craving a casual meal or looking to explore Thai cuisine, Daek is a solid choice that won't disappoint. I look forward to returning to try more of their delicious offerings.

Yelp
Quit disappointed in all the mini vendors. The food seems to be slightly off in flavors, perhaps because of the interest in providing better quality dishes.

Yelp
Great food! We ordered fried rice with tofu, spring rolls and white rice. Now, I know what you are thinking, "white rice"?? Trust me, my stomach had been tortured for the past week and the white rice was the only thing i would accept and it was perfect. My son had the other food items, and he loved all of it. It reminded him af food from home. Thanks!

Yelp
I came here for my birthday, it was a total of 10 people. The staff was SOOOOO nice and attentive, nothing like I've ever seen. The food was so good, the place was clean and it was just a great experience. They sang me happy birthday and brought donuts for the WHOLE table (normally restaurants just bring dessert to the birthday girl/boy), that was so thoughtful. You guys made my day. 10/10

Yelp
The food was amazing. The service was phenomenal. They really accommodated my vegan diet and had a separate menu of all the food allergens too. VANESSA was super sweet & we all love her fabulous style! Such a great professional and fancy experience! Thank you so much! VANESSA rocks!!

Yelp
We were in the neighborhood and craving Thai. Opened Yelp to find places near by. This place had pretty good reviews overall so we gave it a try. Ordered the chicken wings as an appetizer. They came out golden, perfectly fried and somehow absolutely no flavor.....none. I gave them 4 stars though because the Crab Fried Rice was EVERYTHING!!! I guess all the flavor went into that lol....and I wasn't mad at it. The service here was great. Friendly attentive staff. Ambiance was nice and chill. I will be back for that fried rice.

Yelp
Wonderful dining experience at Daek! The service was phenomenal upon arrival which was exceptional and the food was stellar and finger licking good! Kicked off the dinner with the garlic edamame which was exceptional flavorful and delicious. The sticky pork ribs were dazzling in a spicy chill sauce and the serving was plentiful! I also ordered the shrimp tempura and salmon roll which I dipped into the edamame garlic sauce which made the sushi roll scrumptious. Thank you for the complimentary dessert which was delicious. I look forward to returning for another date night!! Xoxo

Yelp
Very good Thai food, very authentic, if you like spicy then Thai spicy is superb! We got the red Thai curry and pad Thai both excellent, the mochi desserts were alright (could easily skip) but the rest of the food itself was delicious. The staff was also very nice, one of the best services in Miami - attentive, knowledgeable and most importantly they were kind. The restaurant itself is lively with good music, open kitchen, would definitely come back and recommend to others! A true Thai gem!

Yelp
Fantastic food and service -- loved it all. Not in the crazy busy part of wynwood which was great

Yelp
One of our favorite gems in Midtown Miami with the best ambiance and the best host. Rodrigo you are always so hospitable and kind and such a pleasure to see. Thank you to Candela the server, and Ivan, who brought our delicious food. We can't thank you enough for treating us at our go to date night spot. See you soon Rodrigo and Daek :)

Yelp
While visiting Miami from San Francisco, I found myself craving Asian food. After doing extensive research, we decided to go with Daek. Ordered delivery on a Friday night and everything came quickly and tasted up to par too. I honestly did not have high hopes after ordering from a couple of other Asian restaurants. Daek passed the test. I'm a huge fan of thai food and I thought the taste was comparable to some of the restaurants in SF. While I shouldn't compare, as Miami isn't known for their Asian food. This spot was good. Ordered the pad thai, pad see ew, pad kee mao, fried rice, red curry and a tom yum soup + white rice. Everything was pretty spicy as we opted for spicy! I would definitely recommend checking Daek out.
google avatar

Ki L.

Yelp
The Pad See Eew was PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!!!! And the customer service was impeccable. This place is amazing, UNBELIEVABLE in taste and I will return every time I am in town, OMG! It's been a very long time when I was able to sit down at a restaurant this lovely and enjoy customer service with at least 2 or 3 waitresses catering to our every need. The food had so much flavor and I honestly cannot even remember when was the last time that I tasted food with this much personality and flair. I will return every single time I'm in Wynwood. Highly recommend.

Huong T.

Yelp
I am not sure why it could be called Thai food or do people in Miami have different tastes than us. The food is so subpar that we instantly felt regret. The duck thai salad is basically scrap leftover pieces of meat from duck being fired up and tossed with a few piece of red onions (and it's very salty). The siumai (or shrimp dumping as they called it) is clearly cheap frozen siumai that you can order from Wee for 3$ for 24 pieces. Don't even get me started with tom yum soup. How can it possibly called tom yum??? The only thing that we actually enjoy is their green curry with beef. It can't be rated as 4.3 ratings like this.

Yelp
Made reservations online and was greeted as we walked in my the manager who walked up and knew my name. Considering I got there exactly at 7:30pm he knew it was me. Sat down to a table with my name on it (those details) and was introduced to out lovely server. Sushi was exceptional and the Thai items ordered were full of flavor. Considering there is a lot of "tourist traps" in that area I was really happy to get a great meal and personalized service. Great place for a date night btw and music was great playing. Thank you for the lovely experience!
google avatar

Marina K.

Yelp
Solid 3 stars all around, might be back, but not getting the red curry next time. The curry broth was flavorful, but a lottt of bamboo shoots and not enough vegetables. The damn thing was 1/3 bamboo and only 4 shrimp vs the 5 in the noodle dish which makes no sense considering you're paying extra for shrimp. Pad Thai was solid although the portion is kind of small for $21 (with shrimp) $45 or so dollars for two dishes that are decent, but definitely not amazing?? Try it and judge for yourself. Plenty of parking out back, warm ambiance and decent service.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
I called about a month in advance to inquire about a large group of 10+ people ordering takeout. They were extremely accommodating and communicative, and even reached out to me in advance on the day I had wanted to place an order for. When we arrived to pick up our order they even brought all the bags of food right out to the car so we did not need to find parking. The food was amazing and the service was excellent!

DaLton L.

Yelp
Have ordered from there often and portions simply are too small. A waste of money for the size of portion. Just ordered pad Thai and it's gone in two bites

Yelp
Food is ok I've definitely had better but good service was good clean and nice vibe music a little to loud but will be back cause it's a convenience
google avatar

Ro C.

Yelp
The food was tasty, but it was the smallest portions I've ever seen, for $17 a plate. Maybe it's better if you eat at the restaurant but it's criminal to charge so much for such tiny portions. And the spring roll was very weak and soggy. I can't wait to see the backlash against restaurants who have gotten so extremely greedy

Bemi L.

Yelp
So happy we stumbled upon Daek. The food is exceptional and Vanessa our server was very attentive and sweet. The chicken pad Thai is so delicious! They let us try the mango sticky rice and WOW!! I can't stop thinking about the food at Daek. Must try!

Nene S.

Yelp
Food was tasty, and service was phenomenal. Also it was a pretty area as well with very easy to book reservations!
google avatar

Rupa N.

Yelp
Has a smaller menu than most Thai restaurants but has your most popular dishes. Started off vegetarian spring rolls which were okay, I've had better. The Thai iced tea was good. I ordered pad Thai with tofu medium spicy which smelled a little fishy, I know they put fish sauce in it but it's a turn off when I get a strong smell of it, luckily it didn't taste fishy. My friend wanted vegetable fried rice without egg but for some reason they couldn't do that so she got red curry which she said was good. Service was good and overall it was good. They do have a private parking lot in the back which is nice.
google avatar

Anton P.

Yelp
In my updated review I have to admit that this place deserves no less than 5 stars. The prices are very democratic like $15 for pad Thai, the service is fantastic: I wanted an eel avocado roll that they didn't have on the menu and they offered to make one and it was really good! Their happy hour is beer and wine 50% off which is great but it can be better if you also add some food deals there. Anyway, this is our go to place for Thai food in this area.

Lakshya B.

Yelp
We just recently visited the place and the food was horrible. The service was extremely bad and the waiter could not even understand the order clearly. As per our religion we follow a vegan diet and even after specifically asking for no egg they served us food with egg and when we confronted them they said it has no egg but later when they checked it contained egg. We are extremely dissatisfied with their service and We shall recommend that no one should go over here. Even the food was served cold

Jorge L.

Yelp
Came here tonight and my girlfriend and I had such a great time. The staff was attentive and the food came out in a timely manner and was fresh. Rodrigo the manager was very hospitable. Would definitely be coming back here again very soon!

Cayla E.

Yelp
Incredible food and even better customer service. It's very hard to come by a place in miami that not only offers quality food, but makes sure their customer's experience is top tier. Already looking forward to my next meal here!
google avatar

Samantha E.

Yelp
This place is always a winner. The service is great and the food is always tasty. The garlic edamame, shrimp dumplings, and red curry are favorites. Rodrigo is very friendly and tries to make each diner feel welcome. We will keep going back.
google avatar

M. T.

Yelp
Food is delicious! BUT the customer service is AMAZING! All restaurants in Florida should be trained by the staff at Daek. The kitchen, runners, servers and manager, all have a welcoming smile and are very attentive. This is our new favorite dining place.
google avatar

Guillermina I.

Yelp
Delicious! We've tried almost everything on the menu and it's all so good, the beef salad and the curries are my fave
google avatar

Martha C.

Yelp
Eh. Trying to branch out from my favorites and try some other Thai places. I got a delivery order so I can't comment on the physical space or service. (My Uber guy was quick so that means the order was ready so kudos on that.) I was... disappointed? My pad Kee mao barely covered the bottom of the standard takeout container. And it was super oily. The taste was ok, not particularly spicy. But for the price the portion was WAY off. The red curry was ok. Not great. Very under spiced. The chicken pieces were good quality but sparse. Overall super underwhelmed with the portions and flavors.
google avatar

Jaclyn G.

Yelp
Came in for an early dinner. Was excited to try this spot. First I have to say the staff is amazing extremely kind , hospitable, and everything you would want to receive from staff period. Cute casual spot- not high end not low end- would say this is in between. Great for family gathering or with friends. Great music- not loud so allow you to talk and relax. The fish here is very fresh and great quality. Personally I feel this is more of a thai and sashimi spot- I have to be honest the sushi was not my favorite at all- the fish was good but the texture and flavor of rice wasn't there for me (a little sour not not sweet enough-the sushi is very ricey- fish to rice ratio- and just bigger pieces than I like. Also- the salmon tartar with rice wasn't my favorite - didn't care for the flavors together. The sashimi is some of my favorite and if I came back what I would come for first and foremost- the hamachi and tuna sashimi is incredible and high quality tasting- was impressed! Will post pics. The pad thai with tofu is excellent aswell- loved the flavor- they put some shellfish in it so beware if you don't eat. Light oyster sauce- but you can't taste it. Highly recommend thai food here. Would love to see them add a truly vegetarian option for the pad thai in future. The vegetable spring rolls are great cooked perfect and what you would want to receive when ordering- I usually assume some microwaveable these tasted fresher. The thai doughnuts are great very light and thin so not heavy on the stomach. They have two desserts here on the menu. Would love to see more dessert options. I think your experience here is dependent on how you order- highly recommend the unfiltered saki we got aswell- photos posted.

Yelp
Always great quality and delicious food. We are never disappointed. The green curry and the edamame with the garlic sauce are my favorites!

Yelp
This awesome gem never disappoints, awesome service from the moment you walk in. The ambiance is very relaxed, with delicious Thai dishes and awesome sushi. Megan was a phenomenal server, and Roman is so consistent with keeping our table clean with such an amazing personality. Great food and awesome customer service
google avatar

Yelp
Incredible experience The attention was super good and the food was fantastic Try the beef jerky and the Crab fried rice Awesome! Thank you

Yelp
First, the service was amazing!! Megan was our server. She was so sweet and attentive. The food was awesome! Good portion size. Passion fruit sake amazing. Couldn't ask for a better ambiance, awesome service, and awesome food.

Yelp
Its 9:30 and im not able to put in an order. Restaurant says they're open til 10pm. Tried to call in but they no longer take orders over the phone. Why are Miami businesses so damn lazy? Its like, im literally trying to give you money but you dont want to accept it Would they prefer that i just walk in the restaurant at 9:45, sit down and place an order there? Ridiculous logic y'all
google avatar

Micaela B.

Yelp
This is one of those meals were I didn't get any photos, but the experience was one of my favorite, if not the favorite, of my entire trip. This spot was walking distance from my Midtown accommodations and good thing, because the bottles of sake we ordered did their job and then some. But before the sake, we enjoyed a variety of dishes, each of which was phenomenal... this spot is in my personal top 5 of the many Thai spots I've eaten. I love spicy food and although the level of spice wasn't really up to par for me (I like to be sweating& swearing from my spice), the waiter went out of his way to try and bring me special made , extra spicy chili oil. That brings me to my next point- the thing that really stood out to me was the service. It was the sort of above and beyond, friendly without being kiss a** service that I love (& that to be honest is pretty rare in Miami, where most of the waitstaff you come across seems to be lukewarm at best and outright rude at worst since most places have gratuity included automatically on the bill). For that reason alone I would be more than happy to return to this spot for noodles, sake, and vibes.
google avatar

Sophia D.

Yelp
Foods was great but the service kinda poor! The girl supposed to be the waitress but doesn't act like one. She doesn't know what's she doing at all. We're trying to order the basil dish and asking for "ground meat" but she have no clue what is the ground meat are.
google avatar

Ricky N.

Yelp
Lol $17 for this half-filled container of noodles, ya gotta be kidding me... portion sizes really are a joke here...
google avatar

Kelly W.

Yelp
Amazing experience at Daek!! I've also ordered via UberEats and had yummy experiences. The chef, manager, and server were all attentive to my date and I. The restaurant wasn't too busy, and they took pride in their service! The prices were also pretty decent with most meals being around $15-16. We were enamored with how yummy both of our meals were. Wishing we had leftovers haha!
google avatar

Jerry F.

Yelp
My son's and I had a very enjoyable dinner at Daek. The service was excellent and the food was tasty, well made and you could tell with the finest of ingredients. We shared an order of the ribs, steamed dumplings, and each of us had the Tom Ka Soup. For our main's we all had Pad Thai. The apps were on the small side but the all hit the spot, with the soup being one of the best I have had. The Pad Thai had just the right amount of heat, and the noodles done perfectly. We finished off our dinner with delicious doughnuts (as we had them as quickly as we could to get that "extra one". So when in the Midtown area, make sure you get to stop by Daek for an enjoyable meal.
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
we came to this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and had a pleasant experience. The staff was very helpful and adaptable with my niece and baby nephew- helping move tables and chairs to accommodate the stroller and the high chair. The menu is great! we love the pad thai and the dumplings. The fried rice is also good. Everything came out at a reasonable time and the prices are relatively affordable. We will definitely be coming back!

Aryan B.

Yelp
Worst service, as per religion we can't have egg. We mentioned to the server while ordering. We received our food with egg and they were trying to convince us that it wasn't egg . The manager came and admitted later that the food had egg and apologized. Worst service, worst server.
google avatar

Khyara B.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from here and the first thing I noticed was the punch of flavor that everything had. It was so good. My personal favorite being the Tom yum Kai soup. Although the portions aren't the largest they definitely deliver quality and flavor when it comes to their dishes. Chicken wings were good but I think they would've been much better in person as they got a bit soggy during the drive for delivery. The springs rolls were very crunchy and good. As were the shrimps shumai but the real star for those was the sauce that it comes with!! A salty spicy and hints of sweetness flavored sauce. I used it on EVERYTHING.
google avatar

Priya M.

Yelp
My friend and I have been coming here for over year and the food, service, and atmosphere has been outstanding every single time. The sushi is always fresh and flavorful and the Thai is yummy too. The staff is always friendly and super accommodating and makes you feel like you're always welcomed there. By far, the best experience was when I recently celebrated my birthday. They were so gracious and was able to accommodate a nice sized group of my closest friends and family and made every moment super special. Special shout-out to Rodrigo and Roman. Those guys are truly phenomenal with hearts of gold.

Nicholas G.

Yelp
This spot is unlike anything you will find in Miamis. The service is probably the best I have experienced since the past 10 years. The host is extremely well mannered and provides impeccable service. They are constantly keeping the table clean and well kept. The food is exceptionally amazing. Anything on the menu is fresh and tastes authentic. I highly recommend as someone who has seen miami change since the 90s.
