The 13 Best Ethiopian Restaurants In London - London - The Infatuation

"With an energy so laid-back it’s almost horizontal, D’afrik is ideal for a casual in-the-area dinner. The Ethiopian and Eritrean spot in Shepherd’s Bush is big enough to host a serious catch-up with anyone you haven’t seen for the past six months (there’s an extra bar area downstairs), and the vegan- and halal-friendly menu means you can cater for most dietary requirements. The portions are massive and the servers don’t take questions, so order the bebiaynetu ahmilti, a mix of their vegetarian dishes, plus the awaze tibsi beef. From the vegetarian platter, the shiro and the timtimo are particularly good." - jake missing, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley

D'afrik Restaurant - Review - Shepherd's Bush - London - The Infatuation

"With a TV mounted in the corner playing Ethiopian music videos on repeat and an energy so laid-back it’s almost horizontal, D’afrik is somewhere for a casual dinner when you’re around Shepherd’s Bush. It’s big enough to host a serious catch-up with anyone you haven’t seen for the past six months (there’s an extra bar area downstairs), and the vegan-friendly and halal-friendly menu means you can cater for most dietary requirements. The portions are massive and the servers don’t take questions—so order the bebiaynetu ahmilti which is a mix of their vegetarian dishes, plus the awaze tibsi beef. From the vegetarian platter, the shiro (a spicy chickpea stew) and the timtimo (a spiced lentil stew) are particularly good, and if you scoop a little bit of everything in a bite, it’s even better. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Food Rundown Bebiaynetu Ahmilti The injera is springy and tangy, and this vegan stew-topped platter is big enough for two. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Awaze Tibsi Beef We’re fans of the spicy sauce this beef comes in, but we’d like it if the beef itself was a little more tender. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Rianne Shlebak

From the outside, the interior doesn’t look too inviting – clean, but quite plain. However, I received a very warm welcome as soon as I stepped in, which immediately set a positive tone. I ordered the beyenetu, which was also advertised outside. Having visited probably around 30 Ethiopian restaurants in London, I was a bit apprehensive at first — usually, when places display pictures of their food, the real thing never looks the same. But to my massive surprise, the exact same platter arrived, and it was absolutely delicious! The teff injera was amazing, all the dishes were perfectly seasoned, and the greens were fresh and flavourful. The lady serving was very attentive and smiley, and she even offered to pack the leftovers when I couldn’t finish everything. I’ll definitely be coming back. A true hidden gem!

The interior was so lovely. So was hopeful it would be nice food. We travelled from east London to try this place. My friend had a Wowcher voucher and it was a 3 course meal with 2 glasses of wine. They had had no idea of what the deal was about for their own shop and I could not be understood. The starters that came out freezing cold,(trying to give us food poisoning)( obviously not proving your food)in the literal sense. We had to send it back and that's when it came out piping hot I had the shredded beef for my main and it was mostly the bread you get shredded up and I had to play find the beef. Then I was saying what's the third course and the server had no idea. She couldn't even understand what I was saying. When I did explain to someone that understood English he said we don't do dessert . Then she came back and said to me they don't have dessert today. Are they for real?! Your offering a 3 course meal but don't have dessert on the menu ???!!!! They then proceeded to offer us coffee as the resolution. By that time we were already very disappointed and disgusted by the knowledge of the deal, the time we had to wait to receive food , and there was only us and a couple in the whole restaurant and still the service was appalling. I definitely do not recommend!!!The only thing I can say is that the lady serving was apologetic and was pleasant. This was our first Ethiopian food experience and it wasn't a good one.

Sunday lunch, it was great. We had the combination plate (meat and veggie) for three people. There was a lot of food and it was all very good. We almost ate it all. The coffee is also really good. Definitely recommend it and would definitely go back again!

D'Afrik is a nice, little family run restaurant. We popped in during the day - food was really good, generous portions and service was really good. The restaurant has some character and there's a bar downstairs that we didn't use. Ethiopian food is always a great option for vegans, and the large platter we had didn't disappoint. Great stuff, we'd come again next time we're nearby.

Ethiopian food is my family's most favourite kind of food AND we stumbled upon this place that's completely gluten free. My 12yo son has coeliac disease and you could see the relief and excitement of finding this place. Food is phenomenal and the staff were kind and attentive. Absolutely love this place and will go back next time we visit London.

Delicious food. I’m now mad with myself for having lived for years in the area and never coming here, it’s incredible value for the money. Just beware that you’ll have to use your hands, which might be a bit of a culture shock to some. I loved it.

Celebrated my birthday at D'Afrik with six other people including my sister who is vegetarian and gluten-free. The food is amazing and with generous portions given the price, as we all had a lot of injera. The waitress helped advise a lamb wat which had sauce and I also tried the lentil wat and the atakilt made with carrots and cabbage. I recommend this restaurant though the waiting time is slow, so plan your whole evening as we arrived around 7pm and left around 10pm.
