"With a TV mounted in the corner playing Ethiopian music videos on repeat and an energy so laid-back it’s almost horizontal, D’afrik is somewhere for a casual dinner when you’re around Shepherd’s Bush. It’s big enough to host a serious catch-up with anyone you haven’t seen for the past six months (there’s an extra bar area downstairs), and the vegan-friendly and halal-friendly menu means you can cater for most dietary requirements. The portions are massive and the servers don’t take questions—so order the bebiaynetu ahmilti which is a mix of their vegetarian dishes, plus the awaze tibsi beef. From the vegetarian platter, the shiro (a spicy chickpea stew) and the timtimo (a spiced lentil stew) are particularly good, and if you scoop a little bit of everything in a bite, it’s even better. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Food Rundown Bebiaynetu Ahmilti The injera is springy and tangy, and this vegan stew-topped platter is big enough for two. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Awaze Tibsi Beef We’re fans of the spicy sauce this beef comes in, but we’d like it if the beef itself was a little more tender. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Rianne Shlebak
