Gristedes by Lenox Hill Hospital had the perfect treat for my husband, currently a patient at Lenox Hill—Haagen-Dazs Rum Raisin. Their wonderful employees made my visit a delight.

Joe Martinez

Google
Trying to support local business but prices are higher than most other places and coupons didn’t make sense to me at the end. Won’t go back.

Ross Reisman

Google
My favorite place to stop on the way home when it's hot out. The AC is bussin

Brianna Diaz (P.R)

Google
This bag I brought in this store it was $500 it dropped it down into a $100 you should go over there It's a new band shop with good prices

Muhammad Taimoor

Google
Depends on the area, better in price and variety for kitchen grocery.

Sally Fong

Google
Very family feel. They are very helpful. Will always try to have stock of all items. Cashiers are also very nice.

Norm Allen

Google
Love the staff there. But they've raised the prices way too high on alot of items. 😞

Peter Pfeffer

Google
Dysfunctional and consistently overpriced. Prices are roughly DOUBLE most any other place. Can't understand how they stay in business since the hey have so few customers. Watch prices at register carefully also. Marked price on shelf was 25% higher at register on several items. Manager shrugged and did not care to accommodate which is illegal. I left, went to Citarella and got the products for even less then D’agostino’s lower price. Par for the course here.

Yelp
Price gouging continues at D'Agostino's! Half-gallon Organic Valley 0% fat milk at D'Ags - $10.89 exact same product at Butterfield (a gourmet market two blocks away) - $6.99

Yelp
I'm wondering when the Scaffolding will come down. This location is not attractive to me at all. Every time I walk past there's congestion on the sidewalk. Loading and boxes blocking the door entrance. So all of my dislike on a typical day was surprisingly false this Sunday Morning. I still dislike the Scaffolding but I had a clear path to get in the front door. This store is typical of all the D'Agostino Stores. Neat clean well stocked and delicious selections. Very overpriced for most things. I did find store baked muffins two for $2.99. My search is for Carnation Non-dairy Cream Sugar Free French Vanilla. Naturally the small container is $7.19. No way. So there you have it. Depends on what you want, where you live, what's on sale and on and on. I could get things on line for much less but the quantities are enormous. They reach their expiration date before I can consume. Another search ends badly today. Not the fault of D'Ag. They don't want to take the same path as Dean and Deluca! Lol

Yelp
I like the fact that this is a "local" supermarket, and not just part of a huge chain. It's easier to grab a few things here than walk another 10 mins. However, in general this store has a variety of issues. Primarily, it's way overpriced. Whatever your benchmark basic product is, eg milk, cereal, pasta, there always seems to be a 40% or more surcharge for shopping here. Secondly it always feels a bit dirty. They finally got rid of the disgusting carpet on the floor (why on earth would you put carpet on a floor that gets repeated spills such as milk etc..?!?), but the new flooring definitely looks like it was put down in a rush by a cut price service. Thirdly the staff mostly seem uninterested and unhelpful. Asking for something here normally gets you a shrug or a grunt, or a vague point towards "aisle 4", whereas in the newer stores staff will engage your and chat and discuss related products knowledgeably. The best thing here is the freshly baked French bread. BUT.. they don't seem to do it every day, and it's sometimes mislabeled as being good for 2 days when anyone who eats it knows it's only good for one day. If they improved perhaps they could take some custom from Fresh direct / Whole Foods / Fairway but for now they seem to be sticking with the model of spending the minimum on store / staff, and charging bigger markups.

Yelp
I spent $17 for a few pieces of fried chicken, bag of frozen fries and a small portion of Cole slaw. Feel robbed, wasn't even that great. Everything here is absurdly overpriced but I guess that's the upper east side, beyers ice cream was 4.99...walk up to 90th and it's 2 for $5...if you live around here and can only walk a couple blocks I guess you don't have much choice but if you can walk north a bit lol

Yelp
Beware if you do delivery. There's no regard to safety. Here's a review of the just awful experience I had with my most recent D'Agostino delivery (on 5/23/2020). The food was delivered to my building's mail area SOAKING wet. The floor of the mail area was completely flooded. Over the course of 15-30 minutes and three trips down, I used a whole roll of paper towels to clean up the area and make sure there was no remaining water on the ground. Had I not, there was a serious risk that someone could slip and fall on the granite floor--of course D'Agostino would be liable for any resulting injury. And my food was soaked. My orzo, for example, is unusable. I spent an hour trying to dry the groceries and another roll of paper towels. I then called D'Agostino and spoke to the supervisor--I believe his name is Edwin--and he was just awfully rude. He explained that rain started coming down while the deliver person was headed over. Fine, I get that. But he had no response when I pointed out that (1) the forecast was for rain all day, and (2) the delivery person should have covered the groceries with a tarp to ensure they didn't get wet. Put simply, this is just awful customer service from D'Agostino and Edwin. I originally started shopping at D'Agostino because of an Eater article that lauded the grocery's customer service. I will no longer be a customer going forward because that praise in just not deserved.

Yelp
It's convenient because it's right next door to me , but gd the food is very pricey. Okay selection in items tho and the store is clean !

Yelp
I'm reviewing D'ag specifically for the sushi bar. So after a couple of horror stories I've heard about local sushi restaurants (I'm not going to focus on the negative by naming names but let's just say some of the pictures people have posted on yelp of the sushi of these other places will give you nightmares), I decided I wanted to start getting sushi from somewhere where I could watch it be prepared and inspect it before committing. I go to Dag for groceries, and I noticed how good the sushi looked and how much pride the sushi chef took in his craft. I especially appreciated how many brown rice options there were. I tried the sushi and was hooked-- shockingly this was the most fresh and delicious sushi I've had in New York. I now get sushi from Dag multiple times a week and it is the meal I look forward to most. If they don't have the option I'm looking for, the chef could not be more kind and accommodating and makes it fresh for me on the spot. He is impeccably clean and meticulous at his craft. I would be devastated if Dag ever stopped this sushi bar or if he ever left. Enjoy!!

Yelp
D'Agostino's is marginally better that Gristedes. It is expensive with a lot of exposed, uncovered food. They have a decent selection of Weight Watcher's frozen food and the floors are carpeted which is, well, weird for a supermarket. The staff is friendly enough, if a bit robotic.

Yelp
I typically avoid this D'Agostino and was reminded why on my most recent last minute stop at this location. The staff is incredibly rude, the owners would do well to install self checkout lanes. The selection itself is pretty standard although the prices are a bit higher than other locations (it is the UES after all).

Yelp
Only giving 3 stars cuz they had sushi. Otherwise, it's expensive and the staff pays you no mind- when I went there, about 4 of them were crowded around the salad section chatting loudly. Um, you're at work. Go find something to do!

Yelp
The store itself is quite nice: well-stocked, clean, fresh items, some interesting prepared food items, cooking demos/tastings, a space which is relatively easy to maneuver and find what you need, and some items which aren't even that overpriced, especially for this chain of stores. My problem lies with the majority [note: not all] of the staff. Reason being, I do not consider this to be a normal (even for NYC) shopping experience. This is a grocer who markets to upper class clientele, and prices things (mind you, also stocks some very nice items along that line) accordingly. You know this when you walk into one of their stores, especially on the UES. However, for me, if I'm making the active choice to support this establishment and their pricing, AND to be nicely dressed while shopping, I expect the service I received to be on par with said prices. Of the approximately ten employees with whom I had some sort of interaction, only three of them even acknowledged me. One was walking by, made eye contact, and appropriately said hello. The gentleman at the butcher counter were quite accommodating, going so far as to come out from behind said counter and walk me to the item I couldn't find. Other staff, whom I politely wished good day or said hello, just stared at me, gave me the once over, and one even rolled his eyes and shook his head at me. The cashier didn't greet me, threw items in the bag, and didn't thank me for shopping with them; I get that base treatment at Trade Fair or Key Foods in Queens. And the bagger looked directly at me before walking away to do something else. Why this was all an issue for me? I received that treatment (and/or lack thereof) and then watched the exact same staffer turn around and give proper treatment to clientele who obviously matched the store's target clientele base. I'm not a shopper who expects any kind of royal treatment; simply equal treatment, and service matching that for which I am paying. Since the quality of all products I purchased was excellent, I encountered some quality staffers, and I like their pre-order/pick-up option, 3-stars is a fair rating. However, this could have easily been a 4-star experience otherwise.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick grocery run. I get it. You're a super market. Minimum wage. I guess you get what you pay for. Cashiers are pretty ghetto. Talking trash & loud while dealing with customers. Making comments they think are clever but are really basic & borderline insulting. Couldn't wait to get out of there. I'll wear my earbuds next time I need to pick up a quick ration so I have an excuse to not respond or acknowledge this ignorance. Sad.

Yelp
I had a dark sided experience here buying their store made chicken parm and pasta. When I got home the pasta tasted like vinegar and there was something that was definitely not right. My body told me that they food was rotten and dark sided and potentially occult.

Yelp
Like a reviewer below, I've also a soft spot for Fresh Direct (see http://www.yelp.com/biz/freshdirect-astoria#hrid:d5iVquxbFRd2aa8de1C5nA), but the $30 minimum kills the spontaneity of food-shopping and I can't wait forever for some coupon code waiving the $7 delivery fee. This D'Agostino suffices as an honorable alternative when I'm not cross-towning to food bargains (e.g., http://www.yelp.com/biz/western-beef-new-york#hrid:WBtIoaHAlkqzLWCXAW_j3Q) -- and I definitely prefer it to the Citarella and two Gristedes less than five blocks away. Average spatial cramp. Clean and shiny (most of the time... these days they seem to be renovating some shelves). Very decent inventory -- e.g., an excellent variety of Haagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry pints (FYI, though, H-D 'pints' are now only 14 oz. - scandalous, if still delicious-when-not-cloyingly-sweet). What's been striking to me about this location, however, are the helpful stock-persons and friendly cashiers. Also: people, please learn to shop with a weekly sale circular. Waste not, whine not. At least D'Agostino has an extensive weekly sale and always posts it online: http://www.dagnyc.com/Shop/WeeklyAd.aspx -- more than I can say for Gristedes -- even though, sale stalker that I am, I have actually *written* to the company to recommend they do so, to no avail!

Yelp
It's a supermarket on the upper east side, so that says a lot. It's obscenely overpriced, small, has limited options & the people who shop there may think you're in their way & should move. But, it's clean and well-staffed. The staff is usually polite, efficient & they USUALLY put the customer first. They were even very kind when I was ill this week & just picking up a light lunch. I've had the sushi once & it was quite good. Usually, when you buy the sushi platters from Manhattan supermarkets, about half of it is tough & inedible. In the tray I purchased, only one piece was tough & inedible & the rest was very fresh & tasty ... so not sure what that was about. In any case, it was good enough for me to buy it again. Ultimately, it is less expensive [notice: I didn't say "cheaper"] to pick up things like juice, soda, ice cream & snacks for my desk here than at the local delis & that's its main value to me.

Yelp
I'm being very generous with my stars here. I recently moved to the UES, and frankly, I expect better from the local grocery. Seeing as I can't financially commit to buying exclusively from Zabar's or Dean & Deluca, and since it's a block from our place, I suppose I'll still be meandering in here each week for this and that, but 1. I don't like how it smells and 2. the quality is meh. Still, they have my organic milk, a good selection of cereals and frozen stuff, and as previously mentioned, they are a block away. If and when I hit the lotto - ta-ta!

Yelp
I am only qualified to comment on the appearance and the fruit selection. Nice clean appearance and high end fruit. The fruit is really expensive though. My only problem as that on 2 separate occasions they had price specials on certain fruit. When I got to the register, the sales were not acknowledged by either cashier or the computers. I always look at the receipts, so I did get a refund. It is quite embarrassing to have to ask for a refund of a small amount of money. Plus it holds the lines up... and the customers look at you funny when doing this. I would hate to believe that these "sales" are done for nefarious reasons. I don't mind paying a lot for fruit if it's good. I just hate being "taken" by fake sales.

Yelp
I went here and every single time the employees aren't friendly and they are just plain rude. I think that they are incredibly expensive. the place is also really tiny and seems cramped and kind of dirty. Just from the few times I had to go here I wouldn't shop here often.

Yelp
D'Agostino is an example of inefficient incompetence at its finest. It could be a social science project. Or even a drinking game. It takes about 30 minutes to get a simple carton of milk, and over an hour to do serious grocery shopping. This is all because of checkout. The cashiers are so slow, and it is clear that they do not give a f*** about your time. Even if you only have one person in front of you, don't be fooled! That one person can still take a good 20 min. One particularly lovely story: one time I had basically finished up, and swiped my credit card, when the cashier just upped and left to help someone on the other side of the store. WTF? Literally, all she had to do was press a button so I could sign and leave. Everything was bagged and ready to go. But, no, I was left on line for 15 minutes, with six people behind me. When she got back, no apology for making me wait. Ugh.

Yelp
TIRED AND BAD QUALITY FOOD. Before Fairway opened nearby, i shopped here almost 3-4 times a week. Things have changed drastically since their business went down. They are close to my yoga studio, so once in a while i buy something on my way home. I had the most horrible experience last night. I bought some prepared food. it was almost closing time. I looked at the bottom of the container and I saw the price next to the date. the food was expired and these guys were covering it to sell for the next day. I dislike the staff. They are rude and always fight in front of customers. They really dont give a damn about their jobs. Exceptions are one or two cashiers that I have known there for 15 years. Don't think i can go back t this place again.

Yelp
I love breads....especially when it just came out of the oven, I sure can finish the whole loaf. That's why I try very hard to stay away from it....Can't afford to gain weight!! At least that's what my Cardiologist always tells me when I go for a check up.!! "Olivia you can't gain more than 5 lbs." Its bad for your heart!!! One day last week I had a taste of this very moist sweet piece of bread . It was a Date Nut Bread....dab it with cream cheese and it taste like heaven!! I went at great lenght to look for it in my neigborhood.. Stop and Shop, KeyFood, Associated, Walgreens, Pathmark....Nada...then I went online ....I found out they have it at Dagostino in the city....so the temperature in the teens, I braved the cold weather ...took the subway ..to the city for a..... bread. Thank God they have. 3 round loaf left in the shelf.... and bought it all. The grocery was rather small but well stocked!! but hey!!! who cares about the size,.... they have my new favorite Neuman's Date Nut Bread!!! that's all I care about!!! I found out on line that iNeuman's is a 3 generation Family owned Specialty Bakery located in Addison, Illnois, operated since 1928. You can also order online...Their specialties Breads.. Fruit Cakes...Stollen , Rugelachs, Pound Cakes ...just want to share it with whoever is crazy like me about breads....It's really good!! .

Yelp
Blah. Went around 6pm on a weekday and none of the cashiers were open, except for one. If you are hoping to ready made food for dinner, the selections are limited. They have some sushi, rotesserie chicken, and that's about it. Prices are pretty terrible.

C. B.

Yelp
This *was* one of our local supermarket choices until.... Easter Sunday night while walking home passed this DAG and looked through the glass window. Rats! Rats! They were running around the floor of produce section. Climbing up, around and eating the fruit. Never knew rats could climb shopping carts until then but apparently they can; a case of open fruit was left in a cart and you could see rats scampering up the thing to get at the stuff. Store was closed but am sure the next morning whomever opens it the next morning must notice the mess. These were large and well fed rodents and as there never is just "one" can only imagine what is going on with the rest of this supermarket. The next day am sure persons purchased said fruit unknowing and used those carts including putting little children on seats

Chris L.

Yelp
Despite living a block away from this DAG's I have been shopping at Fairway since it opened on E.86th But I was tired and decided to pick up a few things at DAGS- now I remember why I don't go. Despite decent prices and an ok selection I won't go back and the reason is ...STAFF -the rudest, slowest all around nastiest on the UES. A special shout out for nasty to a cashier named Ms. Holmes who barked at me and another customer while shouting across the registers to her friends while we waited for her to check us out (or do her job).

Yelp
The cashiers are awesome! They carry my favorite brand of microwave popcorn! Keep calm and shop fast!

Yelp
HUGE RIPOFF-way overpriced for mediocre store. I've been shopping at D'AGOSTINO for years and never looked carefully at the prices. Recently, however, I was surprised by the total. Many prices were nearly 30 percent more expensive than on Fresh Direct. ( 8 large rolls of Bounty were $22.49 vs 15.99 at Fresh Direct and there was a similar difference on Choc Full of Nuts 2 lb can of coffee.
