The Hottest New Brunches in the Twin Cities Right Now

"Helmed by three Travail alumni — pastry chef Alex Althoff, chef Nat Moser, and creative director Sarah Julson — Dahlia does roving pop-up brunches at restaurants around the Cities. Menus change weekly, so check Instagram for the latest details, but expect savory dishes like sausage-stuffed breakfast sandwiches and sourdough focaccia French toast offered alongside Dahlia’s delicate pastries: jammy Bloody Mary croissants, raspberry lemon cruffins, or shimmering creme brulee doughnuts, for example. The pop-up makes frequent appearances at Venn Brewing, Meteor, Steady pour, and other local spots." - Eater Staff

The Best Made-to-Order Whole Cakes in the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"Dahlia’s cakes are dreamy and romantic — they look a little more like Monet’s Water Lilies than dessert. Offered in two sizes, they’re frosted with buttercream in a choice of three colors plus two accent colors for decoration. Vanilla and chocolate are offered year-round; seasonal flavors are offered by the month. Cakes range from $115 to $140 depending on size." - Stacy Brooks

Definitely some of the top pastries in the area! They have a lot of fun specials every week, love the sourdough croissants but specifically the Grilled Sweet Corn Pound Cake one. Kouign Amanns are definitely some of the best I’ve had. Easy online preordering system and I like that they pop up in different places around the cities. So so worth checking them out.

Ive been a regular visitor of the pop-ups since October and plan to keep on going! I’ve eaten some of my all-time favorite pastries from Dahlia. I’ve enjoyed their pumpkin cake and banana cake when I don’t like pumpkin or banana! The flavor combinations are amazing and I look forward to their menu drops every Wednesday! 1000% worth ordering every time.

Google
Really incredible pastries! I attended one of their pop-ups and was extremely impressed. The two pastries I tried (a pumpkin spice coffee donut and banana caramel croissant cinnamon roll) were genuinely some of the best desserts I've ever had, just totally excellent textures and flavor combinations. Their pop up model is really neat and it's fun to catch them at different locations. I highly recommend checking out Dahlia for some exquisite pastries, I know I will certainly be back soon!

Amazing baked goods, truly talented bakers. You can’t go wrong with anything on their menu, it is all delicious. I also ordered a birthday cake last year, which was one of the prettiest and most unique cakes I’ve ever seen, and tasted amazing! Stop by any of their pop-ups, you won’t be disappointed!

I've had many experiences with dahlia pastries and popups and I can't recommend enough that everyone with a love of classic and artistically inspired French laminated pastries get to one of these popups YESTERDAY but hey, there's always tomorrow. Or next weekend. Support this dynamic team of professionals until they can get their permanent restaurant/bakery space, and then support them more. Beautiful cakes for events, galas supporting reproductive rights, delicious scratch made everything with often locally sources ingredients, and vibes that don't take life too seriously all illustrate the versatility and commitment to their craft while having fun with it. Keep up the great work.

I have gone to two of their pop-ups, one in April and one this past weekend, both at Wild Grind coffee. The first one I preordered for and got quite a few items including their Lemon Mascarpone Croissant and a Paris Brest. They were incredible. This past weekend I went on a whim and was lucky to get a caramel morning bun and a key lime croissant. The staff was so kind and the wait was nothing considering the line. Both were again incredible and seriously just perfect. The caramel morning bun just might be one of the best pastries I have ever had. I look forward to trying much more in the future and cannot recommend this enough.

Google
Visited their pop-up for the first time and was floored by the quality. Got a strawberry paris brest, twice baked rhubarb pistachio croissant, bagels and schmear and their picnic sandwich. All were fantastic—the best I’ve had in the Twin Cities. The paris brest was my favorite. It tasted like a strawberry milkshake in the best way.

Dahlia is such a special pop-up bakery that provides creative and delicious treats regularly across the Metro area. We are always excited to see those new menus on Instagram and email. My experience with Dahlia, however, begins with their cakes. When we were planning our June wedding, we were struggling to find a cutting cake for our dessert table that was reasonably sized and priced, while still being delicious and on theme for our vintage garden party celebration. Dahlia provided all four. While Dahlia doesn't offer a sampler (totally understandable for the ultra seasonal menu and small team), the cakes are so reasonably priced that we ordered a small banana creme brulee cake for our annual Friendsgiving celebration. We and our guests were blown away by the decoration and (most importantly) the taste. It was a no brainer to move forward with them for our wedding. Dahlia was super flexible with us to get our wedding cake ordered (a perfect strawberry rhubarb for June) and great partners to deliver the beautiful centerpiece we imagined.

Yelp
I've tried Dahlia at 2 different pop up spots two weeks in a row and they have not disappointed ! Super tasty pastries. My favorite so far was the blondie bunch (pastry wrapped around a blondie and filled with delicious caramel) and I'm going to dream about it for awhile now. At the first pop up we had a collaboration (with Saturday Dumpling Company) egg sandwich that was spectacular. Some other highlights have been the 5-spice pumpkin croissant, and the Carmel morning bun (which I think is one of the few regular menu items I have tried) The only thing that would make this place better is if they had their own space that I could buy the items fresh out of the oven!

Yelp
Edit: this is a combo if times I've been to dahlia, not one specific time. Omggg, why have I waited so long to try Dahlia!! Well because I'm lazy in the morning... Finally made it to Dahlia to try some pastries. I choose salted Carmel sweet corn danish and the sour cherry and cream cheese swirl. I was very interested in the corn and salted Carmel combo and i love cherries. I've also tried the BLT Danish. First off, all pastries were huge and filling. The cherry cream danish was my fave and I look forward to the cherry bush I just planted! The salted corn and Carmel danish was also executed well, the perfect ratio to corn, salted Carmel and danish! The BLT danish - The instagram post noted the consumer to "trust us" regarding the silly lettuce cream. Of course I would trust Dahlia and I'm glad I did! again, the ratios of this pastry were perfect. You can tell the head pastry chef really had a knack for this. I recommend Dahlia because the service is always great, the people who check you out are always so kind and happy to be sharing their gift.

Yelp
I'm not sure if Dahlia is ever going to go brick and mortar at this point, but I'll continue to stalk their pop-ups for as long as they're doing them. Which is pretty high praise for someone without much of a sweet tooth. Since sugar isn't really my jam, I generally lean towards the savory side of Dahlia's offerings, for which there are often many creative choices. Favorites have included a brisket croissant, a kimchi, bacon and cheese danish, a Bloody Mary inspired croissant, among other off-the-wall-but-it-works offerings. You can find where they'll be via their socials and website - the fact that they've started letting you pre-order is a welcome change, as they have become quite popular and I'm not interested in waiting on a long line to maybe get a confection I've had my eyes on. They are on the spendy side for baked goods (and even more so for pantry items like bagels and muffins), but the value proposition remains strong.

Yelp
I went to pre-ordered their pastries for one of their pop up and it was the best decision ever. I got a sweet and a savory options and it was one of the best combo ever! The pre-order service was quick and easy. All I had to do was just pick up the items at their location. I like that they post their menus and photos of the food for their pop ups. I will definitely order from them again!
