Austin’s New Restaurant & Bar Openings

"From the team behind Armadillo Den in South Austin, Dainty Dillo is a smaller version of the bar on East Cesar Chavez. There’s a small indoor area, but this is mostly an outdoor drinking situation, with a large patio overlooking the river. Much like at Armadillo Den, there’s a small menu of draft cocktails—including a few mocktails—plus a full bar and a kitchen run by Biggie’s Yardbird, where you can get smashburgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and cheesesteaks. " - nicolai mccrary

Austin Bar Armadillo Den Opens Two New Bars, Dainty Dillo and Chalmers | Eater Austin

"A smaller spin-off of a far-south Austin patio bar, this Govalle bar/restaurant at 3201 East Cesar Chavez Street occupies the former Tillery Bar and Kitchen and emphasizes an alfresco, Texas-nature vibe with an indoor dining room and a backyard that overlooks the Colorado River. It will serve cocktails, draft nonalcoholic drinks (with options to booze them up), beer, and an expanded food program supported by an on-site kitchen and a collaborating food truck, featuring Southern/Texan comfort items such as biscuits, nachos, loaded fries, patty melts, smash burgers, chicken sandwiches, chips and dips. Planned amenities include fire pits along the outside fence, a stage for live music, several TVs for sports, and murals by Austin artist Austin Cashell; it opens on Thursday, February 29, and will operate afternoons into late night with family-friendly hours until 6 p.m. on weekdays." - Nadia Chaudhury

Finally made it over to the east side to try the new Dillo den spot on a Sunday. The atmosphere was peaceful and had a nice view wasn't very busy at lunchtime. Parking can be a hassle they charge $9 for valet. They do enforce a no kids policy on the weekends, you will get turned away politely. This afterall is a bar not a family brunch spot. The service was okay bartenders seemed like they'd rather be somewhere else. The food options were good but not a big selection. The chicken sandwich was well worth the price. Drinks are close to downtown prices. It's a nice spot to hangout with friends if your in the neighborhood. Several TVs and mostly outdoor seating. Different vibe then the Dillo den overall but a nice addition to the east side. Dog friendly. They have some of the same signature frozen cocktails. Live band was setting up around 3.

Nice little spot especially if you want an outdoor patio for sports and a nice view of the Colorado river. The Moctails are delicious. The blueberry mash is my top pick and they have a yummy N/A ipa. Staff is friendly and the food is pretty delicious. Smashburgers (which I forgot to get a pic) were yummy. Candied bacon grilled cheese was pretty tasty, needed a little more sweetness. They did forget to add the bacon first time around, but the staff was super apologetic and fixed it. Which we did not expect them to apologize so much, mistakes happen. 😃 Will be back for more NA drinks

Google
Great vibe with good drinks perfect for happy hours and meeting up with friends. Plenty of space but tight on parking, so just like the south location plan on parking down the street. Solid bar snacks in house and draft cocktails make it a great spot for a quick meetup or all day hang. Keep it in your loop if you're in the area at lustre pearl, central machine works, etc.

Awesome place to watch a football game or sporting event! The outdoor patio has separate TV's to watch your event close up! Good drink prices too! we didnt eat any food.

Google
Super cool outdoor space with plenty of fans, speakers, tvs, and quite a bit of seating. You order all of your food through an app as well as the drinks, although there is a bar you can order drinks at too. The app was pretty easy to use and I don’t necessarily mind having to use one so I don’t have wait for someone to come back to the table. We got the chips and queso and split the smash burger. The burger was pretty good but the chips tasted a little stale. All of the mixed drinks were pretty good too.

I come here almost every week when the bachelor franchise is on, it's the best place in Austin to watch (I've tried out two other places before the Dillo). The food is tasty, the happy hour drinks are well priced, and the atmosphere is fantastic! The only complaint I have is that the last few weeks they no longer have quesadillas which is tragic

Google
Awesome location with great views and dog friendly patio. Great drink menu with frozen a too plus good local beer lineup. Food was awesome too, we had the smash burgers which were juicy and delicious. I want to try the Bacon lettuce, avocado smash sandwich next time. There’s not a lot of parking so bike or ride share there.

Mini armadillo den, a welcome add to the east side! Firepits overlooking the river with lots of chairs. Small indoor seating section and 3 TVs in total. Food on site, a bit pricey for a $15 burger but it wasn’t bad but could be better. They use the Union app to order similar to Bouldin so it’s easy to order from your table or pickup. Parking is limited, Uber is the vibe.

Yelp
Parking isn't great. They card at the door. Atmospheres is very chill. They have misting fans during the day. Happy Hour M-TH from 4-7pm Service has been great

Yelp
Dainty Dillo is a closer-to-Austin and daintier version of their other establishment, Armadillo Den. It's in a great location and has an unbeatable large outdoor space with TVs and occasional live music. A perfect casual and chill hangout vibe for gathering in the spring or early summer before it gets too unbearably hot. There is a covered open area section with some seating as well near the bar. Downsides are the parking is very limited. They do offer valet and for those who don't want to valet you can find street parking a short walk, across the way. The other downsides are the menus (food or drink) are quite high and there aren't many *filling* options of vegetarian friendly food. Lots of snacks/apps options (nachos, fries, salad), but would've liked to see some entrees like veggie burgers or veggie dogs like you can find at Lustre Pearl. I'd definitely be back for another friend gathering or occasion where a venue that can accommodate a large-group is needed, but otherwise probably won't make it a regular spot of mine.

Yelp
Super cute spot! Love how dog friendly it is inside and outside. Lots of TVs and spaces to sit. Burger and chicken sandwiches were yummy. Drinks were good. Would come back Kids are not allowed during most hours. Parking is a mess so be prepared to just pay the $10 valet or take a little walk.

Yelp
I visited the Dainty Dillo this week and enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere. They offer delicious drinks and a diverse selection of food options. The prickly pear margarita was especially refreshing on the patio during this hot Texas night. Plus, it's dog-friendly and equipped with misting fans--ideal for beating the Texas summer heat. I'll definitely be returning soon!

Yelp
Great bartenders, lovely view with outside patio seating and a big tv to watch. Must use the QR code to order food but can walk up to the bar to order drinks. Found the guac to be super salty and the bartender compared the Jesus nuggets to chick-fil-a chicken but on steroids. While they were good chick-fil-a's is better in my opinion. Very small parking lot and definitely "dainty" compared to their sister bar but this one is closer to my house. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Nice outdoor space. The salad, burger, and queso were very good. Ordering drinks was confusing. You order everything through an app and pick it up at a window. I did not notice you have to add alcohol to your cocktail for an extra charge and they all default to just be mixer/juice on ice. I ordered a Paloma and it was $6.40 just for juice. It's $13 if you want to add alcohol to it. The price is a bit steep in my opinion for a self service, window pickup situation.

Yelp
The Dainty Dillo has done a wonderful job, reshaping tillery kitchen and bar. You can order from an app or directly from the bar, which is convenient. The food is very American, they have a great patty melt, one of my all-time favorite sandwiches! I love that they have waffle fries and wish more places did. They seem to be strict with the extra ranch. There's great fire pits and camping chairs sitting overlooking the river as well as sizable patio with heat lamps up top. There's a stage for music which happens regardless of sports are on which kind of fun. Very doggo friendly! It seems they are doing valet parking now and there's not a ton of neighborhood parking. They do have a bike rack which is helpful.

Yelp
The new concept from the Armadillo Den, the Dainty Dillo on East Chavez took over the old Tillery spot and brought all the vibes!! With a HUGE outdoor patio overlooking the river, a stage for bands, and solid, dirty (in the good way) food options so there's nothing not to love! We came on a chilly day and there were blankets for everyone to use, and tons of heaters and fire tables. They were doing crawfish by the pound when we came and I wish I'd known beforehand because every table but us had some and it smelled amazing! The staff is incredibly friendly, the drinks are tasty, and the vibe is real! You can order from a QR code and walk in and pickup at the bar which is convenient for a group! They have solid frozen options and even have some larger format frozens like the frozen dirty martini with pickled okra juice. They are super dog friendly and our pups loved laying the dirt taking in all the outside smells! They have valet parking for $9, or there is a parking garage across the street, as well as some neighborhood parking too! 10/10 will be back here instead of making the trek all the way down south the the O.G. Spot all the time!! Welcome to the east side 'dillo!!

Yelp
Fried food, great services, amazing views! Tons of self seating. The fried okra was pretty good, very interesting taste! I liked it.

Yelp
I was so excited to try the Dainty Dillo after seeing a rather enticing Instagram video. I shared it with my brunch group - 10 people - and we made a date to try it out Sunday, May 19th. We slowly trickled in and a couple of us were seated and served. Two additional members arrived, one with her 4 month old baby, and the valet attendant informed her that children were not allowed on the weekends. Originally we thought he was joking but learned very quickly he was serious. We expressed our disappointment and went to gather the other members of our group that were already inside to discuss how to regroup/which restaurant we should go to instead. We also called the other members of our group that had not arrived yet to let them know to stand by for further instructions. We were standing outside of the restaurant but in the shade of the building as it was 12pm in Texas in May - aka incredibly hot (and humid) and any respite from the sun was appreciated. At this time, a new Dainty Dillo employee came forward and informed us that children were not allowed at the restaurant, to which we informed him, we knew and we were simply trying to figure out our next steps and also allow the other members to close out their tabs. At this point two of our members left and walked over to Grizzelda's to inquire about a table there. Perhaps 3 minutes had passed before this same man returned and rather forcefully told our group we needed to leave NOW. I don't take issue with the fact that there is a no children policy. But I do take issue with how that message was delivered. This man was incredibly rude, verging on disrespectful, and lacked any empathy or desire to have any member of our group be a return customer. Mind you, there were only two other patrons in the restaurant at this time. The baby was sleeping and we were rather quietly discussing next steps. We were hardly ruining any "ambiance". Our group did close out and walk to Grizzeldas. We were there for two hours and had a front seat view as not a single customer visited the Dainty Dillo. Perhaps they already knew what a rude establishment this was.

Yelp
I have celiacs (highly symptomatic and could be sick for weeks if I eat something with gluten) and noted an allergy on my food order. They made it anyway, had me come pick it up, then told me it was cross contaminated. I said I couldn't eat it and the woman just started at me. I wasn't refunded, I could have been very sick, and they were frankly very rude about it. Bare minimum the menu should be marked or some indication before the food is actually served and paid for.
