I used to be a fan and repeat customer of this place. Then I realised their trick. Every time I went in, the same service (a basic manicure every 2 weeks) got materially more expensive, so that now it is double what I paid 1 year ago. Like all businesses, they want to increase their margins. But they do it by defaulting to the most expensive package without asking and then letting you know when paying that although there were cheaper options (including the one you normally get), they’d given you an increasingly more expensive option. Service is OK, but there are lots of other manicurists on the UES (and even cheaper ones on the UWS) that offer better manicures and pedicures without the ridiculous hidden fees that make you end up feeling like you’ve been taken advantage of. It's one thing to offer upgrades and let the consumer decide. It feels dishonest and just a bad customer experience to default to the most expensive treatments without any notice, particularly for repeat customers who didn’t agree to pay 2x for a basic manicure.
